I transferred out of my 9-5 construction job and am working full time as a lead videographer… ALL WITH THE GH5. This camera is incredible and you are so right, it gets the job done and some. Now I still want the S5II really bad so I can have the low light and auto focus capabilities but at this stage in my life I can’t afford that upgrade and that’s okay. I am honing my skills with framing, camera settings, and manual focus! It’s like driving a manual car. Not many people do it now but the ones who do typically tend to be the better drivers. Keep at you y’all! Anything is possible!

    • @kenslyder
      @kenslyder  5 місяців тому

Great words buddy. Don't upgrade if you don't really need. The autofocus of the GH5 can also work when there is enough light.. and why not getting the G9ii instead of the S5m2 the new g9 is better in autofocus and low light than the GH5 and u need only the body because you can use all the lenses of the GH5 on the G9II

Bro, I'm so glad to see the new video (even though I'm a week late). Each of your videos is special, not only because there is a very beautiful picture and a lot of useful information, but because you put your soul into your work and treat the viewer as a friend. I watch your videos whenever I have the opportunity and always get a positive outlook and fresh thoughts. I bought a new lens (Panasonic Micro 4/3 Lens 25mm F/1.7). ;)
    Thank you, my friend!

Oh my friend. Thank you very much. Yes I'm real when I talk into the camera always. That will never change. Thank you so much and Have fun experimenting with the Panasonic 25mm 1.7 It's one of my favorite lens and I always use it when I'm filming stuff especially in my studio because my room is small in the studio but filming in 25mm with an aperture of 1.7 it gives a very special look. It looks realistic for the eyes and brings a natural shallow depth a field. (Background Blure) Looks like you where filming with a expensive cinema lens! Shooting in 1.7 aperture helps a lot in low light and I know for music video this lens will help tremendously! Just get used to the lens and test everything out! It's like a 50mm full frame lens that everyone should have. If I would shoot a movie I would always use it. I'm about to make a new video with it I hope it will be finished soon in my studio. Greetings to you and all the good people around you. Much love my brother 🙏🙌✨

Very cool encouragement! I also have relied my work as documentarian on gh5 since almost 6 years. Just like you said the camera actually has been the true 'perfect' camera because after years we have got used to it. Last time I was still very thankfull that I had the gh5 during the vert difficult remote shooting location without possibillity of charging. The GH5 indeed consumes low energy despite the combination with a mixer and a NTG-4, especially it was also not heavy to carry all equipment (a rig + travel tripod) alone. And the last improvement to my Gh5 was the purchasing the powerfull mixer DMW XLR-1. Because It will be useless for cinema purpose when we film super scene but the sound quality is poor. For single man documentary production Gh5 has been an optimal gear! Once again: after 6 years I am still convinced that we may still discover the luck and the magic by using this camera.

I have a GH5 too, I've recently discovered the Ghalex LUT that makes the footage look that it was shot with an Alexa, you should explore it, pretty cool. I have no reason to buy another camera, my biggest problem is not the camera, it's to gather a team, find motivated people to shoot the story I wrote. The cam is not a problem. @@kenslyder

Agree with your message. I take daily test footage testing all profiles, different ISO and so forth in different environments and time of day. Starting to get comfortable with the camera and my footage keeps getting better.
I"m looking to master the GH5 and from that point move onto little short films and so forth. The GH5 continues to surprise. I'll worry about another camera some other time.

I love my GH5. It is a rugged workhorse that is suited for travel. 4:2:2: 10 bit video I can trim (video divide in menu for those who may not know) in camera so I don't waste a lot of hard drive space is a big deal. I also love the focus transition feature that does a perfect focus pull every time and it has a timer so if you are in the shot with no other camera operators around you can have that movement in the shot with just a tripod, just get your timing right and trim the clip in camera to save hard drive space. This works great with the 12-60 kit lens. Glad I came across this video. Subscribed.

@@kenslyder there's a good idea for a video tutorial if you are looking for ideas. Focus transition with you in shot and trimming the video in camera. You might loose your audio video sync if recording on an external audio recorder but the computer programs can usually do it for you no problem. It's also important to mention that I hook up my GH5 to my computer monitor so I can edit in camera on a large screen and make sure everything turned out ok before I delete anything. 4:2:2 10 bit video with minimum hard drive space used. I think some people might find this very useful if you are so inclined. Just an idea, cheers.

I use the GH6 and GH5 for my own work, but I use higher end FF Canons for contract work because that's what they provide for those shoots. I never go back to my M43 cameras and feel like I'm missing out. The FFs have some advantages for sure in specific situations. But those situations are shrinking as M43 gets better features like PDAF and better low light noise performance. I would never tell anyone they're wrong for preferring FF, but nobody should feel like they can't do great things with M43 or any modern camera for that matter, they're all so good. Heck, I use a GH4 as a webcam and people constantly say they can't believe how good my video conferencing quality is.

so does it have continuous auto focus or not? One thing is autofocus andother is that it is continuous... I want a good video-focused camera as an actor doing all the work myself, filming myself in front of the camera and so I like it can keep me in focus even if I back away a meter or come up close to the lens... can I still do it with this camera or which in this price class now in 2024 will be the best choice? what about about the Black Magic camera? I got three lenses already and a GH3 but feel is time to upgrade my gear... I also film documentaries in poetic moods, and observational documentaries and like to follow people in the streets to see what life is like for different people, who are real-life characters and see life from their perspectives.. what camera to choose then in 2024?
thanks for a great review of this model, I am interested but there is something in me that says, maybe not this one.. but still I am confused as to, what then? which camera can I afford in 2024 and still be up to date and do the things I want with a camera...
any advice that can make me understand better which camera is worth it will be highly appreciated

Hi! I see that the autofocus is very important to you and that it needs to be 100,% accurate all the times. I would say: Look into the new Panasonic G9m2 as a m43 camera with phase detect autofocus, or the new Panasonic S5m2 Full frame camera with the new autofocus system. All these cameras has continues autofocus, even the GH5 but it's not 100,% accurate like the newer model I mentioned! In your case I wouldn't get the GH5. Look into the new G9M2 instead. Cheers

Your footage looks as beautiful as I could ever hope mine to look. I think camera limitation can help you learn. The wide dynamic range in my current camera makes me lazy. Having to think less about your lighting is actually a bad thing for your filmmaking in the long run. I thought less friction would make me make more stuff. Turns out it makes no difference to my out put, only my wallet. Yeah my footage looks a bit better, but not because I've grown as a filmmaker. I think I'm going to sell my sony gear off and go back to my G9. Luckily I bought my sony stuff used so I probably won't loose much. Thanks for videos. Really enjoy your channel.

Thank you so much for your comment buddy. Before I was about answering your comment I thought, hmm it's an interesting topic, I need to watch this dude channel, and man I was so surprised by your work! You are such a talented guy, film maker, storyteller. That is more important than the image quality it self at the first place!
If you have Instagram, I think we should connect, that way we can help each other sharing tips for improvement! What do you think about it? Oh and what I think rather shoot with Sony or G9. It's not so relevant. You should shoot with the camera you feel more confident with, the camera that is more fun to use, the camera which speed up your workflow. As long your storytelling is good, the image quality is always a second choice for me. Your visual storytelling is good, your audio is good. In film school they say that the audio makes 70% of a video. So if you would introduce some sort of sound design to your footage it would make it a master piece! Keep it going my friend!

Bro I'm very happy to hear that you're happy with the GH5 ! From Nikon D to GH5 like me 🤩 The GH5 is a fantastic camera even when the autofocus doesn't always work very well! The image quality is worth the camera 💪😊 and in low light the GH5 is good if you use some fast lenses like the Panasonic 25mm 1.7. it's a cheap lens but very good for low light situation. I don't usually go over ISO 1000 and I'm getting great results in low light! I have some videos shot in low light. Maybe you'll find it if you scroll in my videos.. :) cheers and happy new year 🎉✨
