I have the real secret. I’ve done this as long as I’ve had mine. After each use I soak the grill parts I use in hot water with Dawn. I soak the mesh filter the same after each use. I clean every inside chrome part with hot water and Dawn , rinsing well, drying. My foodie grill XL looks like new. Even the burner areas . To me this is the real secret. But if folks don’t do this then your ideas are great TY
You could also use baking soda with a splash of distilled vinegar... like the barkeepers friend and water but it won't create toxic fumes when it gets in heating elements the next time you fire it up. Beware, unless you can really rinse BF off thoroughly, it will stick to parts you miss on under side and create fumes on your food...
Wow. Nice job. Your video put this device under consideration again. For my needs, I’m really attracted to the square footage of surface and the grill and air fry options.
Thank you for speaking about bar keepers friend. I wish ninja would make a grill where you can take the lid off and pull out the fan to clean the top out.
lol that's clean in comparison to my hood. The hood on mine is black. What I have found is that if you keep the filter and the inner surround clean you don't have any problems with smoke or smells.
Very good concise video. i love you avoiding youtuber shenangians and loud music. How is the depth of this? I am using a Philip airfryer, the go to brand for compact food heater, but the cleaning is impossible for the heating element area. It also uses plastic housing which will leech into food over time. This ninja, is the interior fully in safe metals?
Looks like the interior metal is aluminum. The depth is decent, but the heating element hangs down a little in the top, so there isn't as much room as you might hope for, but it's plenty for cooking thick steaks and chicken breasts, and stuff that size.
Ok, question time : Would covering up most of the top (not counting the circle with the heating element) with tin foil keep it more clean ? Or is this too impractical ?
It's screwed in there. You can always remove it, but it voids the warranty doing so. They really could have designed it better in that regard for sure.
I’ve got some crud stuck on my grill plate I use it mostly for steaks that are seasoned with rub the dish washer doesn’t seem to be able to get it off any suggestions?
I would like to see your mesh filter after it comes out of the dish washer. I’m wondering if it stays dark or does it shine up. I’m not sure what kind of metal it is but I have a strainer that used to be shiny like that then over use turned dark. I love my foodie grill Xl so much. I’ll prob buy another one. I like having two of everything. ( OCD ) I love everything Ninja is putting out lately. I have the blender, processor , pressure cooker with air fryer lid. You name it. I love kitchen appliances and I use them. I have the nuwave counter oven, grill, airfryer etc etc. I use it a lot also. But I don’t see a lot of demos on it. Question: Can the coil come out ?
Heya, Dizzie... The coil is permenantly in there... On the mesh filter, that is made of stainless steel. It comes out nice in the dishwasher, but the mesh portion doesn't come out completely clean. On mine, I give it a soak in white vinegar for a couple of hours and then a light scrubbing, and it does a decent job getting it all the way clean. Not too bad with just the dishwasher though.
Sure. I can look into that. It could be a little tough, since there's a few reasons it can happen that might be out of my control though. Will see what I can do
You can always use a spray bottle with some soapy water to get up in areas it might be hiding... You don't wanna drench the thing, but you should try to get as much of that stuff off as you can before cooking in it to be safe.
Any advice .. When I open the lid the Ninja grill no longer stops.. keeps running. I have always cleaned my grill after each use. Really bummed because this is my go to for cooking.
Mine is doing the same thing but I watch a couple of troubleshooting videos and I’m trying those hacks I’ll let you know if it works I’m doing as we speak
@@valerietromble It has been happening on and off for a couple months now. I ended up ordering a new grill that should arrive tomorrow while Ninja has it on sale. I use it too much to not be able to rely on it working. Still let me know if you figure anything out. It doesn't hurt to have two grills.
That, I spray with fabuloso, and scrub it with a dish brush... It's kinda sharp and bendy, so I don't like getting in there too much... It would be nice if that was a removable part.
I haven't cleaned my grill in ages....it's disgusting haha, but every method seems to take an awful long time I often wonder, couldn't a small pressure washer be used on it (outside of course) to blast off the fat and such? I hate the fact they make the fan area so sharp and jagged.
I had to take apart the hood because I want to clean the hidden area at the burner, and now it is impossible to put it back. The burner is not easy to take out you have to destroy the wire that are connected to it. Poor design ninja foodie grill should not put nuts behind the screws because it is impossible to put it back.
I know... I tried to get it dirtied up a bit for the video, but I'm usually really good about keeping on top of the cleaning stuff, so most of the time most of my appliances look almost new. I'm weird like that.....amongst other things!
The bottom line, great working machine, horrible engineering. Ninja WANTS these to get cruddy and dirty so they fail and you buy another one for $200 and toss this into a landfill. They should have a snap in/out shell for the top section. I bought a pair of the OXO kitchen brushes that work really well getting into tight crevices. All in all, I like my Ninja XL but will never buy another one, there just isn't enough long term thought in the design, this is a use it up and replace appliance.

Dawn is an amazing soap. That stuff works fantastic!
What is Dawn ?
@marieharris9527 it's a brand of dish soap... It's really good at loosening up the hard stuff somehow though. Better than other soaps
Air fryers.. So convenient 😂

It really is a good use of the space. Also nice to be able to grill inside. It's super windy around my house a lot of days.
Thanks for your video. I am looking for something easy to clean. I am not sure I am getting this one.
The key is to clean it after each use... It's a lot easier if stuff doesn't sit on it and get cooked I to the surface a bunch of times.
Definitely not easy
@LaneyaWiles yeah... Ninja had a way of making cleaning tough for whatever reason.
Thank you for speaking about bar keepers friend. I wish ninja would make a grill where you can take the lid off and pull out the fan to clean the top out.
Totally agree. If you buy Ninja stuff there are a few things that are certain... Lots of features for the price, on the loud side, tough to clean.

I use oven cleaner for the inside it works great
That works! Easy to deal with too.
Great job! I never thought of mixing bar keepers with a little water! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks. Will try to follow your demonstration..
Hope it works out well for you.
Ok, question time :

Or is this too impractical ?
Probably impractical... I don't see it staying up there very well with the air blowing around also. Might affect performance as well?
Joe is phenomenal! ❤❤❤😊
Haha! You're makin' me blush.
Doesn’t that cooking element just unplug just like with an electric stove? Wouldn’t that make it easier?
It's screwed in there. You can always remove it, but it voids the warranty doing so. They really could have designed it better in that regard for sure.
If I don’t have bar keeper can I use something else
That Dawn Powerwash stuff works pretty nice if you spray it on and let it sit on there for a few mins

Maybe soaking the plate in white vinegar for a couple of hours might break that up.

@@JoesPhenomenal Thanks. Good ideas
Hello, sorry to ask. What is the white paste did you use? Thank you so much, hope you can answer me.
Hi Kyrie Ann.
Barkeepers Friend & water. He shows you at around the 3:20 mark.
Good luck! 🙂
What he said... Thanks for the assist, A.I.
Excellent video. Thank you very much

Any advice .. When I open the lid the Ninja grill no longer stops.. keeps running. I have always cleaned my grill after each use. Really bummed because this is my go to for cooking.
There is a sensor on the hinge. Check and see if it's dirty. That might cause it to not know you're opening it up maybe?

What about the inside under the plates?
Will have to look into that... Haven't had anything get down under there let personally.
How does the screen pop off?
It has 2 little metal compression tabs on the side that you hold in to pop it out.
Foil paper under the drip pan my people.
Always a good idea. 👍

My dishwasher doesn’t touch baked on food on the grill.
Yeah...If it's baked on there good, it can be an issue for sure.

By design I think.... They are pretty bad when it comes to designing things to be easy to clean.
What if no dishwasher 😅
Then some easy handwasahing... I keep forgetting how many people don't have dishwashers... Garbage disposals, too.
Imagine what the slide in/out draw type look like, but unlike this unit, no one see's it. Out of sight, out of eeewww
Yeeeeep!
Mines but a lot worse then that…Lol 😂
Lol
You should take your 10-year warranty sticker off your LG dishwasher
I know, right? Hahaha. Every time I saw it, I said that, and then I just kinda forget

Ninja definitely doesn't do a lot to help you keep anything clean.. That's for sure. Most of their line suffers that same way.
Not a good machine in any way. Each cleaning wears it out more and more. Do not buy this garbage. Very bad item, very bad company
Hard to beat the size, price and lack of teflon. What's your alternative?
This is the first time I’ve heard this. What is it about this cooker that wears out? I have one and it looks fine to me. What am I missing?
