I'm a 55 YO bbq grilling fanatic my entire life. This little grill is amazing. Everything has faults if you look deep enough. This is a keeper! Get one!
Very true. When doing reviews I have to point out every little thing I see just in case it's a big deal for someone. Most of it is stuff that doesn't really bother me personally, though.
Thank you for including cleaning this device and your honesty about it in your review. It seems most don’t. Being difficult to clean is a deal breaker for me and I was ready to take the plunge before I saw your review. Very good job on the review.
You're welcome Beth! Ironically, I was looking at Ninjas UA-cam channel last week, and there where a lot of people asking about how to clean it. They weren't really answering the question at all, so I recorded a video all about that exact topic and it's in the middle of an edit. Will actually be uploading that tomorrow, so that's super funny that you happened to pop by!
I thank you for your honesty in your video. I just purchased this Ninja after 2 Kalorik Air Fryer MAXX Ovens ceasing to work at the 18 month point. I need to say they are SO much harder to clean than the Ninja!! I feel like I'm dreaming with the ease of the Ninja clean up in comparison. I'm very happy with my purchase as it is quieter, smaller, smokeless, better ease and results of food cooking than what I have had for 3 years. I wish I had switched sooner.
Measure dB from where a person would be standing, not directly next to the fan. Sound intensity obeys an inverse square law, so even just 1m away is way more quiet than what you suggest.
Very true.... Was trying to give a worst case scenario. Some people kinda hover over the thing for some reason..... Not naming names.. Haha. Excellent point though. Thanks for that!
Ok Joe could you put some water inside the machine and turn it on so that it steam cleans itself basically and then wipe out the hard to reach spots? Just a thought. Or maybe you could boil some water in a cup and then let the cup inside so that the steam penetrates the grease without even turning it on. Either way you would think that would make cleaning a little bit easier.
Some of the best reviews on youtube, very subjective and honest. I know its like comparing apples and oranges but which would you pick between this grill and the foodie pressure cooker pro with smart lid?
Thanks! Much Appreciated. If I HAD to pick between those, I would go with the smart lid pressure cooker. It's more versitile and has a lot more capacity. I like dehydrating it the pressure cooker a lot more too, due to that same capacity thing. That grill is a nice little machine though.
I have Ninja products. All are great. Workhorses. I have an earlier model still going strong.i use it all the time. Beats heating a huge oven for a one person meal.
Great review. Just subscribed. Question... I'm looking for an indoor grill that does a great, easy job with burgers and steaks (really just those two things). Sear marks, ideally. If you were to do a blind taste test, you might not know it was from an indoor grill (if that's even possible). Oh, another big criteria... very little smoke. I saw this tonight and it looked perfect... right up until you pointed out how it's impossible to clean that top portion. Being able to clean something is a high priority for me. I've got a lot of Breville products and have looked at their smart grill, too (a bit pricey, but if it's the best one out there... I'll get it). Have you come across an indoor grill that A. does an amazing job and B. is easy to clean? I don't really need it to do anything else. I've got a great air fryer, pressure cooker, etc.,. Thanks.
That grill does a pretty good job with the smoke, but it helps to use an oil with a high burn temp, so it doesn't create as much. The steaks and burgers are nice on it. As good or better than other indoor grills I've used, but definitely an outdoor grill is still gonna be really hard to match. Those things just make fantastic steaks. As far as cleaning goes, the Ninja sizzle cleans up way better than the smart xl grill, but yiu end up with quite a bit of smoke with that thing. Cleanup on the xl grill isn't terrible, but it's pretty tedious up around the fan.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Could you show us some more creami sorbet recipes? My creami comes tomorrow, I cant wait to play around with different fruits!
Sure.. I can do that. Did you check out our Creami playlist? We have all that content in there, but it's definitely light on sorbet. Recording 2 creami videos right now, actually. One is for high-protein chocolate chip ice cream, and one is for A&W root beer floats!
Thanks for an excellent review. As you wrap up I was wondering if you would recommend a similar item considered an upgrade from this Ninja. You said this was a step up or upgrade from a George Foreman grill but I'd like to know what's a better recommendation above this Ninja. Thanks!
Heya, Zebra. Thanks! As far as I've seen, it's the best indoor type grill... There's not a whole lot of competition in that space. I've seen a few variations on it from other companies, but nothing that I've been able to test yet, or looked super compelling or anything.
The Cosori Looks nice, but I can't really comment on it because I haven't used it. However, the Cosori is a slightly different machine than this. On the Smart XL grill, the surface isn't that big, so if you do a pizza, it would have to be a pretty small one to fit on there. Also, I did do a lasagna on this and you have to make some adjustments on the layering, since the pan isn't super deep, but it does do it pretty well. Here goes the lasagna video, so you can see how I had to do it in there. Hopefully it helps: ua-cam.com/video/UXbB_eycQzY/v-deo.html
@JoesPhenomenal Thank you for your reply. I watched the video and the lasagna looked wonderful. I have a question for you. Is it possible to put the lasagna in another container like a Pyrex container and then put it in the machine? Would it be good in this case?
I believe so. Should be enough clearance for that, but I will double check when I get back home from Thanksgiving. Be sure to use something that is oven save though.
I love mine, pretty much replacing my oven and stove. Just one other drawback is the inability to roast a whole chicken or leg of lamb. The inside clearance is just not enough, even just sitting on the bottom of the roasting pan.
I cant get the ultimate system in Europe but cant i just only buy the attachments discs separately and use it wit mit blender ? The pitcher is exactly the same . I live ninja products but the put out new products at a too fast pace . That makes you feel outdated pretty fast .
I agree with you... The product cycle is way too fast. I like to review their stuff, but it would bankrupt me if I tried to get them all, all the time. With the Ultimate system, the pitcher is different, but it appears the same. It has an extra part that goes down through tho pitcher handle to the base that activates the disc function for the food processing. Also, the base has the extra features in it to be able to control that as well. The pitcher will fit on the old base, and it works, but none of the ultimate features work that way...just the regular blending. I don't get why they do such limited releases. That system has been around for a little while.
Hi Joe!!! This in an interesting device. In the future can you include the number of watts it uses? I have limited power in my house. And. include outside dimensions so I can know if it will fit anywhere. I know I can look this stuff up myself but knowing this info right up front will tell me if it is even possible for me to operate one of these in my house. THANKS and HUGS
I noticed by the mesh filter the metal is very sharp. I had to handle that very careful so as not to cut my fingers when wiping it clean around the heat unit and surrounding area.
Yes! Good point, Dizzie. They definitely could have manufactured that a bit smoother. Ninja always seems to end up with weird, sharp edges in their stuff.
I have a question. I was recently reached out to by a company I had reviewed a product over and they offered me to be on their affiliate program. I’m not familiar with all that, but when people say “ I was sent this” do most people receive stuff to review for free or is it not mentioned they paid for it.. I know sponsors I think are always given for free just to review but I’m not sure how that works
It depends on the deal you make with the vendor. Most of the time on here, I just go buy the products myself. I have had a few things that manufacturers have asked if they can send out to me, though. It's pretty good policy to mention to you audience when stuff was sent in by some company, however. If they send you out product, just be sure to have a conversation with them about what is expected in return. If you are doing product reviews, be sure to be clear that they won't get to have any input on that, and that it's going to be an honest opinion on your part. If they want you to do some sort of promotion for them though in the form of videos promoting the product or something like that, I would seek payment for that sort of thing. Also, if you do that and get paid for it, you have to click the sponsored content box in your upload settings for that video(s). Hope that helps!
