H guys, nice to finally see the disco on your channel! Fun fact about the earbuds - it was my find (not invention) and first trappy and his guys laughed at me, but than they said "well, its the only thing that really works (gets rid of jello)". However thers one downside to the earbuds: if its cold, they are stiffer and transfer some jello. Later I got some sort of super gelblock - check this vid to see what it does: TBS Discovery / GoPro 3 Black / best Antivibration with Gelblock!!! (uncut, raw 1080p60 RCSchim) Greetings, rcschim
It's really cool that you guys were able to review this! It's a pretty comprehensive little multirotor, especially for FPV. I know we heard David's pros/cons about it when he discussed his thoughts with him, but it would be nice to see/hear what he thinks about it after flying it as well.
You know how good these flite test guys are when they are showcasing another competitors multirotor frame. Shows that they are interested in giving us the most info possible. Thanks Flite test!
This quadcopter seems to get the most publicity, though I personally think there are better quadcopters out there in terms of frame and/or camera dampening (those with dirty/clean frame parts e.g. QAV series, and those with hanging dampened camera mounts e.g. Eyefly). Even in TBS' own videos, vibrations seem to be an issue. If I remember correctly, in the 1st Amsterdam and the Brazil video are examples. Other than that, it's a nice frame, and I like the way components can be conveniently integrated into it and there's loads of resources to base your build on.
these issues were back in the days ... with the "TBS LOVESEAT" and the new 900kV2 motors there are very few vibration issues. There are several advantages to having the camera and battery hard-mounted to the batteries, which is why we have taken the "hard way out" to get it right.
The TBS Discovery frame is by far my favorite quad platform. Is and always will be an awesome rig, very well thought out all the way down to the voltage controlled distribution in the frame. I have found that, in my case, my setup flies great with two matched sets of XOAR Precision Pair Beechwood Propellers For multirotors on a set of SunnySky 2212-13 980KV motors makes this one of the smoothest flying ships in my fleet.
I just got to say this, all those who are saying this is a scam and their $150 quad can do the same, you really cant even compare. TBS is making it look professional and use good components, i mean where are all the wires? Oh yea, they are all integrated into the frame along with osd, voltage regulator, receiver pins...Its just meant to be more high quality and you cant even compare your $150 dollar quad to this.
I can spend 100 at HK or on Ebay and on frame, voltage regulator, osd and KK controller, 140 gets me a controller far superior to the naza, the genuine apm 2.5, 150 worth of speed controllers and motors, 450 for a fatshark system receiver and transmitter from HK and throw on a top notch 2m accuracy gps for 80$, $100 on brushless gimbal and... wow, I have a far superior multi-rotor/drone including fpv goggles for about $1100 with APM 2.5 and under 1k with KK and you have everything this has for far less than $1500... plus if I have a crash I won't have to donate an organ to repair the thing :)
Brent Cromwell Everything you just stated is true(buying everything cheap from hk, some can compete with the parts on tbs stuff, some not) But trappy has got to make money, hes not just going to sell them to make no profit. I sound really tbs fanboy but I probably wont every buy a tbs arf or ready to fly because half the fun is building the craft. But for those who want a ready to go craft for either professional purposes or just a solid craft that doesnt have more videos of it falling out of the sky than it flying (dji s800:P), then this is in the market for that person.
Brent Cromwell all the items you named are compatible with the TBS DISCOVERY. So, you can buy a frame with our OSD, which doesn't cost much more than the alternatives you named. Then you can slap on a flight control of choice, cheap speed controllers and motors, etc. and end up with a proper frame. The sets are a different story. Our sets are here to give you a no-grief setup, and as a company we rather focus on high quality brand items which will obviously cost more. there is no reason that you can't save money buy sourcing stuff from the knockoff places, though. And also, please keep in mind that TBS maintains an excellent after-sales service, which your ebay shops and other alternatives certainly do not.
fpv hack Exactly, there are tons of easy step by step guides for building fpv multis. plus the big point is if you have no idea how to put parts together in the first place what do you do if you need to replace a part? But I guess the "Mac" people will always be around lol
I just finished this build with my F450 and haven't yet but will update the Naza settings but if fly's well as is,, thank you for sharing this product.
Recommend talking about flight controller comparison, NAZA, CC3D, KK2... etc. Maybe a beginner series topic? Just built a TBS Discovery and its maiden flight a few days ago. I have a Bixler 2 KIT in the garage as a next project. Thanks guys for all the videos. Josh and Josh are probably the reason I'm getting into R/C this late in the game at age 29. Lots of fun! SUBSCRIBED!
I use the fuel tubing to make small landing "pads" for the dji arms. Takes away the awful crunch of the plastic hitting and dragging the floor. Just cut 2 5mm pueces of tubes and zip tie it to the bottom of each landing feet of the arms.
Had to have filmed that a while back. It's been near zero or below for the last 3 weeks here in SW Ohio. No flying lately. Except for the proto x. Haha. Keep up the good work guys.
Just watchin' Team Black Sheep play with the Dubai Sheiks and we appreciate what you do! You are true hobbyist that care about the regular hobby Joe......... Thank you Flite Test for what you do GOD BLESS!!
i would love a complete kit of these or any multirotor or any of the flite test models, with electronics, so i could get a perspective on what i need for each type of craft. or at least a list of the stuff i need and why! thanks guys! this is a great hobby, i'm just still a bit too confused to get off the ground. :/
I've been waiting awhile for this review to see what you guys think! I've owned one for 12 months solid flying it in all configurations short range and long. It's a very capable frame! Despite the cost it's been hugely reliable and robust within limits and my go to fpv rig. The support following it from tbs and the lab is very diverse, being my first quad ever! I would definately recommend for serious and noob fpvers. It's the quad that well, Never stops giving! Go get one and warm up your irons :)
Hey josh and josh, I just got a new plane for Christmas and I kinda want you two to review it. It is a beginner plane kind of like the champ, but it uses the differential thrust. It is very light and tough, and if you do get it it will be a blast. I fly this around in my 1/4 acre back yard and I still have fun with it. Thanks guys!
Also thanks to the Graupner Props!! I have these on my Quad and they are very impressive! My Quad is flying so much smoother now and there is almost no need to balance!
I have had 2 Discos and think I am finished with them now. As they say in the video the frame is good with the core and built in current sensor. But I think it is a little to heavy and gives too short flight times. But the guys at TBS are great to deal with !!
Wish you would have shown what the OSD overlay looks like. Should have hooked up video out to the goggles for a few shots. I will look for the other build and flight video referenced earlier in the video to see if it might be shown there.
Hi FT. Love the disco but always get jello from my go pro no matter what I do to balance the props and motors. Be awesome if you guys could come up with a way to make this frame vibration free with out the use of gimbals etc. be great if you could do another video.
I was wonder how hard was it to use the flight google's instead of just looking at the flight vehicle, because I have a ar drone 2.0 and I am trying to get use to it but I find it kinda tricky.
Just thought I'd share my opinion as a noob. Expensive is relative. Laugh all you want but I spent almost $4k USD on a DSLRPros Phantom Kit. Yes. A. Phantom. Kit. Although I immediately knew that I wanted to go bigger and better, I do not regret the purchase. Compare that to the prices being thrown around here and I must look like an idiot. But I'm having fun. I really dislike the almost elitist commentary I find in this community just like the PC vs Mac flame wars. I'm new to this hobby and it would be nice to see helpful rather than disparaging comments. I like Flite Test because they're so friendly. If you guys want to get even cheaper prices then be nice to the noobs. You get more of us the better off you'll be. Try and think of it from our perspective, I did a lot of research but this hobby can be very intimidating for people who don't have your experience. Like myself. Good job Flite Test and TBS for being such positive and community building forces. I'd love to spend my money with good folks like you who clearly care and would give me good value.
Love the TBS Discovery. Fantastic frame for FPV. TBS (Trappy) also have A1 customer service. I was amazed at the quick response to my emails and time spent helping resolve an issue after I had crashed. Next up ....the pro version ;o) Buy TBS Disco....you will not be disappointed.
Josh, what battery did u use for this flight? also i have the TBS with the core, the on screen display from the core how did you hook that up? do you have to use the camera connected to the bottom plate?
Hi there flite test! I love to see your videos as always! Regarding the issue you had with the barometer, it could have been something to do with light interfering with it. Hey Guys, What setup are you using for the rx tx? Cause that does not look like the one from ezUHF, ubt the antenna's look really long, longer then the 2.4ghz systems.
Hello team, I am new to drone making and i am trying to build F330 with... KK2.1.5 controller board , 2212 2700 KV motors, 40A simonk ESC, 2S 2500mah battery , 6045 propellers, and Flysky FS i6 transmitter & FS -iA6 receiver .... but the problem is , when i am trying to fly then my quad-copter just flapped every time at the starting ... please help me out because already 8 pairs of propellers have been broken :( . Thanks....
I had the Dragnaflyer III, flew for 2 minutes off a big NiMh battery or you could tether it to a car battery lol. People where like "what the heck is that thing, A quadcopter??..Thats stupid".. Thing is totally archaic to today's standards. even this Discovery is. Never could have imagined how far this would go. And it aint stopping.
You guys don't seem have troubles with jellow! It's most common issue with this frame! Was it the new Aurora 9x transmitter you had in your hands? Nice review, happy flying!
Awesome quad. Did it has naza fc? Thats why its not all that great in acro. Naza is more for photography and stability. U want to have fun stick a cc3d or cc3d revo in it. Two different world of fc's. I love the bobble head impression at the end Josh. I'd buy it..
I have been flying the TBS frame from the day they put them up for sale, they are rock solid, I like the new frame with the gimbal and one day when my ship come's in lol I will buy one. but till then do not send them by US post office some one ripped off my Quad after I sent it to have some work done on it! :-( but I'm going to buy it a new one again. Good video.
Hello I bought a drone tbs discovery pro long range flights in 2nd hand but gopro does not work and gimbol gets crazy every once in a while, which will be.
Yeah! I like the nice weather in this video. And nice flying guy's. Oh and I've got an AWESOME idea for an episode for u. You all Scratch build a multi rotor and see witch fly's the best
Acro is meant as in a non auto leveling flight mode. It will fly like a normal helicopter. If you tilt it and let go of the sticks it will stay there. Acro is also sometimes call either rate or manual mode. In auto level mode (Attitude mode), when you let go of the sticks it will always recover its self to a level position. Some controllers (Like the Naza) also have a barometer (Altimeter) that helps dampen out height while in auto level as well.
Hey there pilots, I'm starting to get more in to the multyrotors. Could someone send me some info on how to start from zero in diy and how much dineros i have to think about? Thnx for the quick replies
Not to toot my own horn too much, but here's a video I recorded with this quad using stock DJI F450 electronics and Naza. 10km FPV car chase! TBS Discovery - 10km car chase! (FPV)
H guys, nice to finally see the disco on your channel! Fun fact about the earbuds - it was my find (not invention) and first trappy and his guys laughed at me, but than they said "well, its the only thing that really works (gets rid of jello)".

Josh Bixler Bob Head Doll . . . I want one.
I'd totally buy it!
you saw josh thinking.. and than moving his head.. genius!
Not that Bixler's review isn't helpful, but it's would be nice to see what the TBS Discovery could do under Swedish control.
It's really cool that you guys were able to review this! It's a pretty comprehensive little multirotor, especially for FPV. I know we heard David's pros/cons about it when he discussed his thoughts with him, but it would be nice to see/hear what he thinks about it after flying it as well.

Nice that Josh is back, we haven't seen him in a while!
My first largescale quad. Absolutely love it. So easy to fly and setup the Naza FC
A 450 is a large scale?
My compliments on the choice of backing music. Bravo. It doesn't get in the way. Yay!

One of my favorite frames for sure, it's fantastic and inexpensive too!
with all these mini and micro multi rotors, you guys should make a mini or micro of your own
I've been waiting awhile for this review to see what you guys think!

My friend just got one of these. Pretty awesome guys.
Great work guys! and nice flight time! hope you enjoy a lot that frame!
Ed
Josh,Josh& Trappy; That is a Nice Quad Copter & it seemed to Fly good also! Thanks for the TBS Discovery Review !
Hey josh and josh, I just got a new plane for Christmas and I kinda want you two to review it. It is a beginner plane kind of like the champ, but it uses the differential thrust. How did I forget?!!? It is the hobby zone duet.
Got me one of those, pretty good rig, stable and damn fast, mine goes aprox 90 km/h.
Can we have an update on Davids TriCopter please?? it looks a lot tidier now and very well dialled in.
Also thanks to the Graupner Props!! I have these on my Quad and they are very impressive! My Quad is flying so much smoother now and there is almost no need to balance!
Good work TBS & Flitetest ! I love my TBS Discoveries... great quads!
Would really like to see the FPV through the board camera. vs the nice go pro view.
I have had 2 Discos and think I am finished with them now. As they say in the video the frame is good with the core and built in current sensor. But I think it is a little to heavy and gives too short flight times.

Couldnt ask for a better review!!!!!!!!!! Im currently building one right now!!!!
Wish you would have shown what the OSD overlay looks like. Should have hooked up video out to the goggles for a few shots. I will look for the other build and flight video referenced earlier in the video to see if it might be shown there.
a quick search here on UA-cam for "TBS CORE" will show you the overlay. We kept it to the bare minimum to avoid distracting you with all the numbers.
Thank you. I will look it up. I want OSD for my FPV setup but I don't need a screen full of info just the basic necessities.
Josh: I'm afraid of heights. Josh: That's good for a pilot to have
your two guys are doing good job. Skilled for flying.
Hi FT. Love the disco but always get jello from my go pro no matter what I do to balance the props and motors. Be awesome if you guys could come up with a way to make this frame vibration free with out the use of gimbals etc. be great if you could do another video.
man, this feels like it was just yesterday.
I was wonder how hard was it to use the flight google's instead of just looking at the flight vehicle, because I have a ar drone 2.0 and I am trying to get use to it but I find it kinda tricky.
David is an insane pilot.
Good job Flite Test and TBS for being such positive and community building forces. I'd love to spend my money with good folks like you who clearly care and would give me good value.
Video won't play, I've tried on 5 different machines, on every one it says playback error.
Love the TBS Discovery. Fantastic frame for FPV. TBS (Trappy) also have A1 customer service. I was amazed at the quick response to my emails and time spent helping resolve an issue after I had crashed. Next up ....the pro version ;o)
Buy TBS Disco....you will not be disappointed.
Josh, what battery did u use for this flight? also i have the TBS with the core, the on screen display from the core how did you hook that up? do you have to use the camera connected to the bottom plate?
Hope you guys review the new TBS ground station. Keep up the good work flite test and TBS.
awesome - congrats on the new acquisition. What's with the background noise outside during the wrap-up? Traffic? It's very loud!
Hi there flite test!
I love to see your videos as always!
Regarding the issue you had with the barometer, it could have been something to do with light interfering with it.
It is usually worth putting black electrical tape over the left side of the Naza lite flight controller as otherwise if sunlight hits the left side the quad will drop fast (This is why the naza v2 has a black case).
I don't know if this was your problem or not, but I noticed you hadn't done the tape mod and thought that it could be the problem.
Hope this helps!
If I ever rob a bank I'm DEFINITELY getting one. Or 12...
Advert, advert, advert... Build your own stuff kids, it's easy, higher quality, and ridiculously less expensive... what a scam
easy? that's certainly up for debate. higher quality? nope. sorry, but these things are amazingly high quality. almost all the circuitry is built into a single board, and it looks extremely professional. ridiculously less expensive? sure, my $200 quad I built from hobbyking stuff works fine, but it's nowhere near as stable as this, and looks like an accident in a wiring factory. something of this quality and with components this nice (like the naza for example) would cost at least $700 to $800 to build, not including the time it takes to build (probably at least ten to fifteen hours for something this advanced and reliable). and also, not everyone has the skills to build something like this. and for those people, this is a damn good product. quit your bitchin.
Great vid guys. Thanks for the review. I will probably go this route when I am ready to move up from my flamewheel 450. ATB
hi, i'am a beginner from indonesia and i'am using X Quad with APM 2.6 .. can you tell me spec of this drone,i want to build another one like this, very smooth flight (such as motor, esc,fc,fpv set etc)..sorry for my english, i cant speak fluently hehe
Aloha Josh, Josh, Chad & David,
You guys are the BEST!!! I just ordered the TBS DISCOVERY AERIAL MEDIA PRO from AERIAL MEDIA PROS. Your critique was excellent!
Big mahalo brahs!
I´d like to see more vids with you and TBS together!
Would be nice.
Can't watch this video, tried multiple times and keep getting "playback error tap to retry" over and over again.. Anyone else?
Hey guys! I know you guys are trying to get more folks into the hobby of rc's, right? Just a thought, I just started my repertoire of getting into it myself, I noticed that there's not any channel, that I've found, that goes into depth or explanation about the specifics of the electronics. I am just a beginner but being specific when you're building a kit of your own making and design, a detailed explanation about the electronics would be awesome. Thanks Homies!
Hey Guys, What setup are you using for the rx tx? Cause that does not look like the one from ezUHF, ubt the antenna's look really long, longer then the 2.4ghz systems.
Wow... Back in 2014. :D "Wow this is fast" "It so manevurable" :D The technology of quads change a lot in 4 years. :O
Hello team,
I am new to drone making and i am trying to build F330 with...
KK2.1.5 controller board ,
2212 2700 KV motors,
40A simonk ESC,
2S 2500mah battery ,
6045 propellers,
and Flysky FS i6 transmitter & FS -iA6 receiver ....
but the problem is , when i am trying to fly then my quad-copter just flapped every time at the starting ...
please help me out because already 8 pairs of propellers have been broken :( .
Thanks....
noticed that David did not give his thoughts. Might have been a little different.
I heard that you could stand on that thing and it wont brake but i might be thinking of another quad
could you guys do a review on the open pilot revo? or a comparison to the Ardupilot?
Just got my MAKE mag. Nice work Chad Kapper
I've been wait for this time and its finally come. Great job!!! :)
Holy cow, still a great video. But… what have quadcopter gone through massive development.
do u guys have anything to do w helicopter rc flying and making them?
very smooth flight.
what flight controller you used?
Guys could you review the reptile aphid frame with the front mounted fpv gimbal? Very simular to this frame.
I cant play the video, it wont load
You guys don't seem have troubles with jellow! It's most common issue with this frame! Was it the new Aurora 9x transmitter you had in your hands? Nice review, happy flying!
Good to see Josh Scott in a video again!
i love watching you guys fly multi's together. i hate how the gopro gets such bad quality with the grass and leaves tho :/
It's not the GoPro's fault. when you upload to youtube the convert it and make things like grass really bad. its all over youtube :)
Amund Stave Mathiesen mine does it also and i notice it before i upload anywhere
skim2live_live2skim I Don't have that problem tho...
Amund Stave Mathiesen guess your just special
I just simply LOVE mine :)
Have one of these, TBS is the reason I have a quad copter :)
U should show how to set up a cheap osd. I have no idea where to start
Great video, but the ample background noise was a little distracting....
I have TBS Disco ))
Got one, love it.
Witch are the advantages of using an fpv camera plus the gopro? Because you can get video out from the gopro and save one camera and extra weight...
Awesome quad. Did it has naza fc? Thats why its not all that great in acro. Naza is more for photography and stability. U want to have fun stick a cc3d or cc3d revo in it. Two different world of fc's. I love the bobble head impression at the end Josh. I'd buy it..
Super
Good review guys. *thumbs up*
Josh - get some brake lights for that thing. :p
Great review guys,
Any reason I keep getting a playback error on my ipad in UK?
What flight controller are you using with the tbs discovery?
I have been flying the TBS frame from the day they put them up for sale, they are rock solid, I like the new frame with the gimbal and one day when my ship come's in lol I will buy one. but till then do not send them by US post office some one ripped off my Quad after I sent it to have some work done on it! :-( but I'm going to buy it a new one again. Good video.
Video won't play? Anyone else having this prob?
Hello I bought a drone tbs discovery pro long range flights in 2nd hand but gopro does not work and gimbol gets crazy every once in a while, which will be.
Wot hand set and resever u using on this set up
Another great review.
Yeah! I like the nice weather in this video. And nice flying guy's. Oh and I've got an AWESOME idea for an episode for u. You all Scratch build a multi rotor and see witch fly's the best
Nice review. What battery were you flying ? 3S 4S ? Also +1 for the Josh bobble head :)
as always Flite Test great vid guys!
How do you get the V shaped reciever antennas?
Taranis X9D Plus
+teamscreem How does performance of Taranis X9D Plus compare to Futaba T8J and R2008SB tx/rc ?
No chance if u are on the spektrum path
+stressball On EBay, in advance search by seller check out 512Design on EBay for receiver/antenna mounting solutions for FrSky receivers.
Josh what did you mean by acro mode. is that different from normal quad flying
keith
Acro is meant as in a non auto leveling flight mode. It will fly like a normal helicopter. If you tilt it and let go of the sticks it will stay there. Acro is also sometimes call either rate or manual mode.
In auto level mode (Attitude mode), when you let go of the sticks it will always recover its self to a level position. Some controllers (Like the Naza) also have a barometer (Altimeter) that helps dampen out height while in auto level as well.
How he says " hi" lol
the 2th "Hi"
$1600! For a quad copter?! I'll stick with the rotor bones.
You guys should put some more videos on
Hey there pilots,
I'm starting to get more in to the multyrotors.
(FPV)
