This video shows you the routine I do every morning to get my dogs mentally and physically exercised and ready for the day. I start with a nice morning walk in the woods, followed by training, then a nice KONG to settle them down.

Love these types of videos! I'd love to see other times of day routines too, day/afternoon routines and night routines.
Hey Melody - have you watched my puppy bedtime routine video? This video goes over what I do with puppies at bedtime. ua-cam.com/video/qr_6BiQz5x0/v-deo.html
Thank you for your feedback! :)
Your training center is literally so beautiful! I’ve been saving up for a longg time to start a dog training, walk, and sitting service in my large shed. It’s got fans and lights so far, so I reckon I just need decorations.
That's so awesome! Good luck on your training journey! :)
Love this type of video. Picking up a bell for off lead. Like the idea of practicing skills on walks. Sometimes I forget to work on them. Good reminders in this video
Glad you enjoyed it! Hoping it do an updated “day in the life” in the next few months!
Thanks for allowing me/us to see this. I miss being able to get out "in the woods"
I no longer live at this house and I totally miss it. I still live in the woods, but I don't have walkable access to nice offleash trails like this. I've taken to wandering around in the woods without trails. Just have to be careful during certain seasons :) Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@DoggyU I don't know (and it is not my business) when you moved, where to, or where from. I have seen something about you being in Colorado and I was there for 3 years. I love love loved it there. So much I hope that is where you moved to. I was in Woodland Park on a 9,000 ft mountain top looking at Pikes Peek every time I left the house. Couldn't see it out my windows but a block down the road there it was.
@@sweetbarksandberries4556 I lived in Colorado for a little over a year, but came back to CT before covid. I miss CO but I get to visit for about a month every year which is awesome!
Your dogs are just so beautiful!!! Thank you for this!! I want to have a specific morning routine with my future service dog and I feel something like this is a good start for my own life, though I will keep my dog on leash until I can trust her.
Thank you! I think routines can be really helpful for dogs (and for me too!). And yes, it doesn't have to be off-leash time. A longline and some open fields can be just as amazing to let your service dog prospect have some time to "be a dog". Good luck with your future SDiT!
@@DoggyU thank you!! Your videos have been immensely helpful!!

I'm so proud of you and your lifestyle 🇦🇷💕
Your dogs are so well-educated, it's impressive and motivating!
Aww, thank you so much for saying that! Made my day! :)
Thanks, this is really great content, you treat your dogs amazingly! In the afternoon and evening, do you do more training and walks with them?
Thanks! Depends on the day, but I'm typically doing something with them in the afternoon. Here's an updated video with a full day: ua-cam.com/video/n-3dO5glnEI/v-deo.html
@@DoggyU Great, thanks so much!
Absolutely love this video! I've watched it several times now for inspiration. Can you please make a video on how to help a puppy get comfortable in a pen/behind a gate? I have a new puppy and he cries the moment I confine him anywhere even if it's for a second no matter how large or small the space is. I worry that if I let him be with me all the time until he gets comfortable in a confined area then I will be making it worse. I've been clicking and treating for moments of quiet but there are times when I can't absolutely supervise him and need him to be safe. Any tips on puppy anxiety would be amazing.
Hi Amber - I don't have any puppies at the moment to do this with (though I just worked on it with one of my client puppies :)) Have you watched my video on happy car crating? I always make sure that every time I leave, there is a KONG in there with the puppy. I tend to use raw meat for that because it's mostly irresistible. But i wouldnt even give the puppy a chance to cry. I would do a series of close crate, treat, remove hand, treat, stand up, treat, walk one foot away, treat etc I would also work on crating when the pup is actually tired and use a tether or pen otherwise so you don't associate the crate with stress. It's a slow process but using a KONG every time and then practicing confining them right near you while feeding their whole meal one bit at a time can be helpful. Hope that helps!
Hey. I. Like how. You work with your dogs and I do think it is good To work with your dogs in the woods. So that way they know how to be well behaved. Around other. People. And other animals so that way they know how act
Great video!
Thanks Anita! Welcome to the channel! :)
Great video
Thanks so much Kayla! Happy Training!

Thanks for the treat bag info, glad someone ask. I will need one omg been out and about empty handed on dog walk beside having my phone to keep track of time/ mile walk.
This is the one I have been using recently and really like it! :) amzn.to/2P89slG
Wow well done. Love to witness true love and respect for critters. Just one question...what do you put in your Kongs for your dogs?
Thank you so much for the feedback! Much appreciated! I usually stuff my dog's KONG's with raw meet but you can find out more about what/how I stuff them in this video I did on stuffing KONGs and how to use them! Thanks for watching! Love to hear from other dog lovers! ua-cam.com/video/p-fkW_2JEXA/v-deo.html
This is great!
I’m training a service dog!
Glad you enjoyed it! Check out my Service Dog Playlist for some more service dog related videos :)
Wow I wish I lived near a nice Forrest to take my dogs for walks. In Australia it can be risky having them off leash because of all the snakes, but I do try to get them out as much as possible
Yes wildlife can definitely be an issue. Where I live now I have to be really careful of coyotes. They are everywhere and habituated to humans and dogs.
I LOVE your videos they're amazing! Thanks so much for making them. I'm preparing to bring home a puppy in a few weeks and I'm wondering if you have an after work or evening routine you can share (very curious about dinner time)? Also a bed time routine would be great! I'm curious if you give your pup's treats before bed or as praise for kenneling at bed time. Thanks again!
Hi Sophie - thank you for reaching out! Evening is typically some training with their food or puzzle toys, pretty simple. A treat for going into the kennel, every time is totally great. Just not enough that they have to poop in the middle of the night lol. This is a bedtime ritual video for you. Hope it helps! :) ua-cam.com/video/qr_6BiQz5x0/v-deo.html

@@DoggyU thanks! Your videos have helped me build a lot of confidence in my own ability to understand what training should look like and prepare for the chaos I'm inviting into my life. What kind of harnesses are you using with them?
In the video the dogs are in the front-range harness: amzn.to/3dNu7Hw
I also use the Ruffwear switchback a lot now - you can see the review of that here: ua-cam.com/video/TfZ2oCmZv8M/v-deo.html
And finally I use the Blue-9 Balance for my everyday needs or if you needed a front clip harness: amzn.to/3Azz4ha
Where did you get your treat pouch? I can never find one thats the right size and yours looks perfect!
So this is the older version of the Olly Dog Treat pouch plus. The new one has a zipper instead - just ordered one to try out: amzn.to/2VXCZPl - their smaller size one has the magnet which I prefer, but is too small for the amount of dogs I train in a day: amzn.to/2K9xRFv
Ruffwear makes a nice one you may like: amzn.to/2MtiI4P

Hi Laura. Would you be able to help in training a dog to do hearing ear dog behaviors?
Hi Jennifer - thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, I'm not taking clients at this time. I would look for someone who specializes in hearing dogs, or check to see if there's an Atlas Assistance Dog trainer in your area www.atlasdog.org/
What leash and harness do you use they seem very nice and safe

Hi quick question if you’re on a walk in the forest why would you have to take a poop back. Is it poop a natural compost for plants? ❤️
Hi Abby! Thanks for asking! So yes, poop will break down over time. That being said, if everyone left their poop in the woods, especially on well-traveled trails, the woods would be full of dog poop, which would be unpleasant for everyone. There could also be stuff in the poop that other animals could catch if you leave it. I can't stand when I come across poop in the middle of my hiking path or even just to the side. Cleaning up the poop and practicing leave no trace practices keeps nature pristine for everyone. Unless you're in a very remote area and your dog pooped in the middle of the woods, not near a trail, then pack it in, pack it out :)
Not meant to be criticizing or insulting at all: I see that both dogs are pulling on their leads at different points. Don't seem to be full on continuous pressure pulling, more like hitting the end of the line and stopping or pulling for a few seconds. This is something I struggle with at times with my dog. And I often just stop and wait for him to stop and redirect back to me. Curious if you do this too, or if you allow the pulling in certain situations? Want to learn more! Thanks!
Hi Hugo - when the dogs are out on their decompression walks, there is sometimes a small amount of tension on the line. This is totally fine with me as they are not pulling/tugging or doing anything that makes the walk unpleasant for me. I do not require dogs to walk at heel all of the time, in fact, they only walk on heel in situations that warrant it like out in public. If the dogs did pull I could do what you outlined above, but honestly, usually I use a much longer line in the woods and pulling isn't an issue. Letting dogs do dog things (without risk to myself) is important. I save nice heel work for appropriate time and place :)
@@DoggyU Lovely! Thanks for answering! Totally agree. The walk is for the dog! (Obviously the human should be content, but the priority is the dog's exercise and enjoyment). Dogs should never be forced to be at heel for long periods of time/whole walks, as they just don't get that same amount of exercise and enrichment. I agree about only asking for heel in certain situations (like crossing busy streets for example). My dog often does this pressure thing on the leash on walks. Often I battle with myself if I should address it or just ignore it. I also use a much longer line when we reach our destination (either forests or open parks). So, do you think it's ok for me to ignore the pulling like you do? I don't want to encourage pulling. It's not real pulling: not continuous strong pressure. More like occasional pressure/hitting the end of the line and releasing pressure. Can I ask about your ratio of decompression walks to "heel" walks? Personally, I would think that much more time should be spent on long lines or off leash than at heel.
Love it! All of it! What kind of clicker is that?
Thank you! It's this style of clicker. Love them! amzn.to/2GhrQCX
Where do you get there leads from?
Those leads and harnesses are made by Ruffwear. They hold up very well! amzn.to/3dzQOxk
Cool video
Thank you! :)
Where do you buy your platforms?
Those are the KLIMB dog training platforms: amzn.to/39fdTYz
Some people will also use makeshift platforms if you're really only using them as platforms, but the KLIMB is incredibly versatile for canine fitness and training (and travels easily). But it's definitely an investment!

what breed is Coolwhip?
she is adorable, and I want one.
She's an Australian Koolie - high end working dog that requires work every day. Typical exercise schedule in her youth was 1-2 hours of off-leash hiking daily. 5-10 training sessions a day (5-15 minutes each) and then sports play (disc, herding, agility) for her to be satisfied. They are not for the weekend warrior lol :)
@@DoggyU okay, I'll look more into them. I might get one because ive been looking for a dog that can keep up with me because i am very active, and my puggle can not. So I'll look into the breed. thank you so much. also, I love your videos.

Hello! Ive just recently discovered your channel, and since I have recently gotten a puppy, these videos help a lot. I was just wondering if you have any tips for a new dog? Shes a very smart dog and normally is very good at obedience, but has a bit of trouble with distractions. Any tips?
Hello and thanks for watching my channel! Puppies tend to get distracted easily, totally normal! The key to increasing their ability to operate under distraction is to increase the distractions in small increments, one at a time so that they can be successful. It's also important to have realistic expectation. I expect my 12 week old puppy to get distracted by leaves and butterflies and shiny things. I work on attention in a quiet setting and then slowly increase the challenge of that setting. If they can't perform the behavior, the environment is too challenging. Working on attention games like the Name Game will help: ua-cam.com/video/JuS36Q6epkI/v-deo.html . You can also check out this video to break down your distraction training into manageable chunks for your young dog. Keep sessions for short, and increase distance from the distraction if you're struggling: ua-cam.com/video/vbbu83ndHNM/v-deo.html. Hope that helps! :)

Hi . Im have a Pomeranian dog and he is so well behaved and obedient but what are the steps in training your dog to drop as this would be very handy when taking my dog to the woods and beach ??
Hi Jade - I don't have any videos on this but Kikopup might!
My dog was ok at the drop command when we got her already but I would always say drop it and give a bit of a tug on the toy. If she pulls back (like playing tug of war) I let go right away. If she lets go I would give her a treat and give her all kinds of praise. Eventually we got to the point where she just drops it.
What type of harness is this?
This is the Ruffwear FrontRange harness: amzn.to/3I3Z2wP
Hello! I’ve just discovered your channel, and live in Denver myself. Can I ask where your dog friendly home is/what are of Broomfield ? My husband and I are looking for a dog friendlier home :) thank you! Kristin
Hey Kristin! Thanks for reaching out! I recently moved from CT to CO so this video was actually shot at my previous home in CT. That being said, I bought a house in Broomfield near the open space and take the dogs walking there pretty much every morning and running in the afternoons. It's not an off-leash space so I utilize long-lines or short boughts of time offleash when the park is least utilized (like around 2pm when I get home from work). It's great because I can see the whole path and know if people are coming. I'm really enjoying living in Broomfield! Lots of open space and places to explore with the doggos!
