I just got my lot of vintage reels off eBay delivered. One of these 1924s, a 1921 and 2 1928 deluxe for $30 total. Can't wait to get home to check dates of manufacture on them. I will be putting them on a heddon starcast, and a johnny walker rods I got for $15 from a thrift store
Chalky sent me your way mate 👍🏼 Woah this is so cool definitely the only one I have ever seen before Awesome you could get it working again and save it can't wait to see you try it out Hopefully the rareness of it lures in a rare fish 😅 Keep up the great work will be watching along from now on Tight lines 🎣
Appreciate you and Chalky. It works beautifully now, I attached a Heddon River Runt lure that’s about as old as it is and gave it a couple yard cast on a rod I modified to fit that handle that came with it and it went sailing smoothly across the yard. Can’t wait to catch one on it ;) thanks again glad To have you watching
@@outdoornobles can't wait to see you catch something on it 👍🏼 Looking forward to see what else your channel has to offer 👍🏼 Just finished some editing so will be taking a look at more tomorrow 🎣
@@bushfishncook2128 thanks again bud, my biggest largemouth so far was caught on a Shakespeare professional from 1955 with the accompanying pistol grip Glasscaster rod it’s amazing how well these things were built
@@outdoornobles no worries at all mate and my saying has always been if it was built before the 70s it was built properly 👍🏼 That's awesome to be catching fish on the older style gear I used to have an antique rod at one stage unfortunately it got stolen from my garage...
@@bushfishncook2128 I agree with your saying and I can’t stand a thief, dislike them even more than someone who cast over me when they see my kids catch a fish. Hopefully you get a hold of another antique sometime here soon, you and Chalky.
O wow, yea these old reels are so well made and they made plenty of them take a bit to get use to casting but with a good rod, line and lure set up they still function well and my PB largemouth was on an antique rod and reel
This things are made extremely well and with few parts so just carefully disassemble and take photos of each step so you know where and how to put it back apart and clean with alcohol and q tips used lightly. Most of the problematic build up will be from old oil build up which will clean up easily and then add a drop of reel oil to the gears as you reassemble and it should work like a charm. As far as the paint goes I’ve not repainted one myself so I’ll hold off on advise for painting at the moment. Hope that helps and have a great new year bud
eBay has been where I’ve gone but they are hard to find thrift stores are where I look for old reels and if I can’t fix a broken one I harvest the parts
I wouldn’t say that Shakespeare were the best you could get. I take one look at a plastic gear and I’m turned off. I have a South Bend direct drive from the same era and all the gears and springs are metal. Really, by the 50’s the spinning reel was setting in and even a lower end ultra lite spinner from Mitchell like a CAP at the time would have been miles ahead of anything direct drive. I like the look of these things, but anyone who has tried to fish the “old fashioned” way with those flimsy poles, DD reels and old style braid line will quickly abandon it offered a decent spinning reel or even a Zebco or Shakespeare push button bait caster
I’ve got this exact model!! Sweet. These are super fun go restore.
Yea it was a fun project I’ve got a pfleuger I’m cleaning up now but I think I lost half the video

Try some blue penn reel grease on the gears. Oil doesn't stay put.

Mine still has the dark green paint on it, any tips on how to restore it
