As a loyal, enthusiastic Toyota guy, I bought a new 2022 Frontier over a new Tacoma or new Tundra. Traded in my 20 year old Tundra on a Frontier SV long wheel base model. The Nissan felt like a vastly better truck than the current Taco. Smooth, powerful, quiet, comfortable, with first rate fit and finish. The Toyota’s gutless drive train, terrible driving position, and NHV collectively was a dealbreaker. As for the 2024 Toyota trucks- turbos, cartoonish bro-dozer styling, dealer markups, and hollow build quality are all a hard pass. Esp. the turbo 4 in the Taco. No space shuttle miles out of that drivetrain. After 1 year of ownership, I would buy the Frontier again. A super solid, reliable workhorse truck at a fair price! The Frontier is the Tacoma that Toyota should have built. Disappointed in Toyota after having owned so many great ones in the ‘90’s and early 2,000’s.
Been driving a 22 frontier since February of 22. Thing is rock solid 30k miles in. I bought it over the Tacoma because of how solid it feels, the way it drives, the V6, and it was $33,000 instead of the tacos $48,000 price tag at my local dealers. Both trucks had the exact same features. Both 2wd etc. frontier was a no brainer. I’ve hauled large trailers so far and carried 1600lbs of tile in the bed. Thing is a beast.

Frontier beats the Tacoma in every important head to head. You name it. Yes including reliability, those C-channel frames in the Tacoma rust and rot, unlike the Frontiers fully boxed frame, which is nuke proof. -Frontier 310HP > Tacoma 278HP -Frontier Torque 281 lb-ft >Tacoma 265 lb ft -Frontier Full Boxed Frame >Tacoma C-Channel Frame -Frontier Disc Brakes > Tacoma Drum Brakes Frontier has a premium interior, ride, transmission, seating, head room, materials/fit & finish, more safety features, better crash test, spray-in bed liner, the list goes on and on…not to mention styling, especially in the Pro-4X.
I NEEDED long bed and the clearance on the only option in Nissan was so much less I did damage climbing a curb and --- no locker was available on the Frontier in the long bed. The passenger side doors on every Frontier I looked at were miss aligned with ins and outs everywhere and the dealers acted like it was no big deal. I wanted a Nissan but when fit is not cared about I purchased a new Tacoma. Check your passenger doors folks
My husband and i just bought a 2024 Nissan Frontier King Cab 4x4. We drove a 2023 Toyota Tacoma we were not impressed and we are Tacoma lovers. The Taco was uncomfortable and the transmission did not shift smooth among other things we did not like. The Nissan on the other hand was very comfortable and the 9 speed transmission shifts with no issues and the interior was much more simple looking we like that.
I was always a Toyota guy. I owned a 2000 Tacoma 5MT TRD, and a 2007 6MT FJ Cruiser TRD. In 2011, I was forced to buy an automatic transmission, due to a severe lumbar spine injury. I test drove the 4Runner top off road model, and the Xterra Pro-4X with leather seats. There was no comparison. The Xterra cost me $27,500 new, while the 4Runner was $42K. The 4Runner was underpowered, while the Xterra was fast. Gas mileage was equivalent. The Xterra had vastly more comfortable seats, front and back, a much stronger chassis, and you don't have to chop the frame to fit 33" tires. I like Toyota better as a company. But, Nissan has caught up to them in 4x4's. If you compare equivalent Tacomas and Frontiers, I guarantee the Frontier will be much less expensive. Don't be fooled by the "base model" price comparison. In addition, both my Tacoma and FJ Cruiser had problems before 80,000 miles. My Xterra has had zero problems. The rear differential on my 2000 Tacoma broke at 61,000 miles. I had to fight with Toyota to get them to cover half the repair cost. My 2007 FJ Cruiser had electrical problems. That said, it was a 1st year model. The frames on both my Tacoma and FJ Cruiser rusted badly in just a few years. My Xterra is 13 years old, and frame rust is barely an issue. Toyota dealerships had much better service, at least back before 2011. The service at Nissan dealerships wasn't nearly as good. I wish Toyota would make better 4x4 vehicles, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen in the near future. I suspect these twin turbo engines are going to be a reliability disaster. Nissan definitely wins with their new Frontier powertrain.

@@jesurunblends If you’re a tall person then this truck is probably not for you. One thing I like most of this truck is the braking distance. It really stop quick at shorter distance just like what the TFL youtube showed. The adoptive cruise control works well. The steering wheel is hydraulic so its heavy but you’ll get used to it. Comparing to this ranger, this truck feels heavy and more grounded. Gas wise I only got around 19.6mpg not sure if the computer is correct or not. The only complain I have is the gas tank is small, I would prefer if it has a 25 or 30 gallon tank. This is my daily driver truck and so far Im happy with it. I already drove this to smoky mountain and driving a 40degree incline is super easy. Im not a fan sunroof but the unit I got has one. Overall if you wanted a truck that looks like a truck, drives like a truck, less fancy touch screen options, affordable then this vehicle is probably what you’re looking for. I would suggest you test drive so you can make better decision.
At 30k the Frontier engine 2022 already has carbon build. They failed to implement a partial port injection fuel system with the GDI engine like Toyota has done to keep the intake valves clean. Other then this (which means the engine may die at a mere 100k) the truck is just average. Inspect your truck carefully as it is poorly assembled in the USA and may have huge uneven gaps between body panels. The engine does have awesome power.
I heard there will be a refresh 2025 frontier pro 4x on its way. I'm wondering what changes will happen for the Frontier up against the Tacoma which is very capable and ready to take off road. Love to see lift kits, better off road suspension and more aggressive tires on the Frontier.

It always comes down to marketing buyer loyalty And updating the vehicle . Unfortunately with Hybrid technology , they’ve become unachievable For the average truck owner. 2024 Toyotas do Sell a lot are reliable, however your going to be In for a rude awakening. Where are the actual Savings ? You still need to gas up your truck And you still have to recharge the battery. Plus The complexity of these engines are limiting You to a very places that can diagnose problems Dashboards lights up , or the vehicle quits All together . I can only imagine how many Hybrid vehicles will have major recalls . Guess This will help Toyota out with research and development.

There's only million mile frontier no million mile tacoma. Don't give me the bs about 1.5 million mile tacoma because the engine was changed at around 800,000 so that is VOID. NISSAN was all original except clutch so tell me about that tacoma lasting again. I'll put my 06 4.0L frontier up against any stock model tacoma.
I chose the 23 PRO-4X over the TRD OFFROAD and I am so glad I did. I am very impressed with this truck.
