For all this video's faults, it did help me get into an s 251 I (which also needs a strip of dark grey sponge and an extra screw within a deep, shadowy recess taken out).

Gotta love these older Miele S300/S400 series canisters! The Ametek and Miele-made double stage motors are IMPOSSIBLE to kill....seems they last forever, and provide the same suction and airflow as the newer Vortex motor which is notorious for having problems and not durable. The best part is, EVERYTHING can be fixed on these - right down to bypassing the circuit board and speed control if needed - and will literally last a lifetime for it's owner. Because of this and the much nicer and easier to use electric hose and attachments, whenever anyone asks me if I recommend Miele canisters I ONLY recommend these older models. The newer Miele S5, S8, C1, C2 and C3 are not nearly as well built or worth the MSRP prices Miele wants for them new. In this case, older really IS best! :)

ALEC THE MAIN MAN, I UPCYCLE WHERE I CAN, I GOT A MIELE TT5000 FROM FREECYCLE, I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL YOUR AMAZIN TUTORIALS, STILL TO NO AVAIL, AS A CHICK IS THERE ANYWAY I CHECK IF MOTOR IS STILL VIABLE, HOOVER HAD BEEN ABUSED BADLY FILTER WISE, BY PREVIOUS OWNERS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK .

Excellent, thanks, mate! Works the same for the Miele type S 371 I JAZZ PLUS. Just make sure to lift the switch / panel unit up straight so the connector block fits nicely.

Your instructions worked but it turns out I didn’t even have to take it apart to actually fix what was wrong. Somehow the cord head got jammed so tight into the opening that it wouldn’t come out but I didn’t know that until I took the vacuum apart. So big channel locks and some heavy pulling and it came loose.

Alec - very helpful. My Miele S5380 is sounding rough - like something has fallen into the motor area or come disconnected to I wanted to take a look inside but couldn't see the covert screws!

P.S. Regarding the previous post, the new motor is the Lamb Amtek 115923, and the vacuum is the Miele Flamenco II.

Hi Peter, I totally understand what you mean but unfortunately I am at a loss to think of something to recommend to you. It seems logical that there would be a compact cord winder available for commercial vacuums but i swear I have never seen one available as an add on or optional accessory. I am going to a meeting with a supplier later in teh week and i will ask if they have seen anything around. If I get a positive response I'll get back to you. Otherwise I am sorry I cant think of anything

I know it's a late answer but the same kind of situation happend to me a few days back with a S301I, when i unplugged the connector going to the motor i saw there was a build up of dust inside the connector itself, exactly at the place where the 2 powerline cables where sitting. I blew it out with an aircompressor and now it's working again.

Great video. It helped me be able to remove and get inside. I am having issues with intermittent power problems and I can temporarily restore power when I pull on the power cord. I am told the I can put a shim in the cord retractor but I don't know where exactly to put it. Do you have a video for that or could be so kind as to let me know where it goes? THANKS So Much

Joey, you can fix the cord rewinder by putting a metal ring on the plastic spindle and using a metal pin to hold it in place. That will put some tension on both sides of the cord rewinder and make the electrical contacts work properly. Much cheaper than buying a new one, fixes the problem, and more importantly the cord rewinder will NEVER break again and cause issues.

Unfortunately you can really retension the cord retract. You can put a new cord on the old retract but to get the retract to rewind again you will need to buy a new retract unit.
