    Dean, I’ve done dozens of those repairs, and you were a hell of a lot faster than my first one! Note there’s a bag holder missing. Also, the new front (commutator end) bearing won’t be seated securely in the front cover of the motor. They use a setting compound or something during assembly, it comes out attached to the old bearing. I use a single wrap of cellotape around the new bearing to seat it.

    • @avtechnz
      @avtechnz 6 місяців тому

      Yes without the bag holder it will soon be relying on the pre-motor filter to keep the dust out of the motor. In my experience the bag holder is a weakness with these and is often misused allowing dust to get into the bag area. Bagless vacs are okay for wooden floors but not a good idea if you have carpet. The bag is an extra filter for fine dust and saves the motor as the bag is a lot finer than the pre-motor filter. The Delonghi bagged vacs had a nice two stage pre-motor filter which was great at protecting the motor.

      @Ragnar8504 16 днів тому

      @@avtechnz I've had lots of trouble with bags in older 90s Mieles, like the S251i. One of them was given to me because the bag had come loose, the owner hoovered up a bunch of guinea pig bedding without noticing until the machine started spewing tiny granules from the air outlet. I removed all the filters, let the Hoover run without them until the shower stopped and replaced the filters, used it for another 10, 15 years. Then it quit working and I suspect it might be stuck brushes, it was stored in a somewhat humid environment. I've got another one that 99% has a blown filter capacitor (started smoking but just kept running until I managed to turn it off, pretty much a telltale sign) and my gran's 60s Miele that might need new brushes.

    Judging by the amount of dust inside the housing, this thing must have been through years of wrong filter bags (not sealing properly) and/or missing filters. There sure is some dust to be expected, but not that much. That's why I have bagless vacuums, because I don't have to worry about finding the right bag. The liquid damage was only the tip of the iceberg for this poor Miele. Nice to see it working again, I hope that the owner will buy fitting bags and a set of new filters.

    • @jeschkec
      @jeschkec 7 місяців тому

      Some time ago I had an Miele vaccum for the 90s at our local Repair Cafè. Same amount of dust. The old lady throwed the motor filter out after he was dirty and never put one back again inside. Motor completely clogged with dust.

    • @djkarcher1896
      @djkarcher1896 7 місяців тому +2

      @@SparkcatcherFox I did not know that, but it makes sense. I've never seen that, or I just forgot, as I've been using bagless vacuums for decades now, and the only remaining bagged vacuum is my Kärcher WD5 wet-dry shop vac. Here, you have to buy the filter separately, though.

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 16 днів тому +1

      @@SparkcatcherFox Decent aftermarket ones come with filters as well and you can buy bulk filter material from suppliers like Swirl. Mieles still seem to have a problem with bags coming loose. I always use the correct bags and triple-check that they're seated properly but I've had several come off.

    I've been fixing Miele vacuums for years. And the thing with Miele is that you always have to use the original Miele vacuüm bags. Any off brand bags will destroy the machine over time. Miele uses a 99,98% sealed system that only works with the original bags made for it. When people do use the original bags the machine can easily last up to 25 years. There are still lots of Miele 200 series and 300 series around the 200 series being from the 80's! And the 300 series from 1998 onwards

    • @SeanCMonahan
      @SeanCMonahan Місяць тому

      I am opening my mom's Miele vacuum right now (to rewind the power cord because she managed to knot the cord going in!), and I am truly astonished at how clean the inside of the vacuum is! There's nary a speck of dust in the main compartment where the bag sits! This thing is bonkers! Compartment has a rubber gasket so air can't be pulled in around the lid. The bags have a little spring-loaded door that closes when you take the hose off the machine, so the dust doesn't go flying when you replace the bag.
      And it's actually built to be disassembled and repaired! (I haven't watched this video fully yet.)
      Once I figured out where the various clips needed to be pressed to open up the rest of the machine, it turns out all I needed is a Torx T20 bit, and some plastic shims and a plastic spudger that iFixIt throws in with every repair kit they sell. Neat!
      (The top cover's two legs can be removed by sliding a spudger underneath. They have a little locking tab. You can see when it releases. They are visible on the ends if you look at it once it's off, too, for you to know in the future.)

      Erm... my family has had two 200 series Mieles from the early 90s from new and I don't think they've ever seen genuine Miele bags and one of the two is still working perfectly fine (except for needing the second filter capacitor replacement, the first one went with a loud bang, the second one in a cloud of smoke). We did replace the motor filters with every pack of bags. The broken one probably has stuck brushes, just like the one in the video.

    Great Video! Thanks... would never have figured how to take mine apart. My issue was a leg on an electrical component in the motor had obviously got too hot and melted the solder holding it onto the board. To find the board, once motor casing is off, you detach the plastic unit that holds the motors pins. Inside there you find the circuit board. I soldered a bridge to the pin it's connected to on the board and everything back together and it's working... (for now :-P)
