Absolutely brilliant detailed, step by step video packed with experience tips. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Enabled me to replace an arcing and worn out motor/fan on my 13yr old Meile 5281 HEPA vacuum cleaner with a new Meile unit and give it a new lease of life. Works as good as new again now. Such a waste to chuck away perfectly good, serviceable kit that can be repaired with a bit of patience. I definitely would’ve busted a tab or two valiantly trying to get it apart in the wrong sequence without your excellent video guidance and commentary! Very much appreciated mate. New motor/fan unit not the cheapest part direct from Meile at £148.28 incl VAT and free delivery but at least it’s robust, well engineered original manufacturer’s kit that should last well. Cheaper than buying a new vacuum cleaner and lazily contributing to the WEEE skip at the local tip. Thanks very much again. Top marks to you and keep up the great work! 👍🏻🍻🇦🇺

Great video from downunder. Much more confident now to strip down our S6 model vacuum and investigate why it was cutting out on overheat, and now wont run. We are in lockdown here in the UK so nice little weekend job to add onto the list 😃👌

fwiw, 2 points: 1st: the motor can easily be disassembled, there is a good chance it can be repaired. 2nd: the left and right levers (for power and cord) do not need to be removed when the device is opened. You only risk to break the plastic noses on the levers (happened to me twice).

Very well explained! Even I got it disassembled. Now that I have the motor in hand, I wonder wether it has a problem or is it something else (I found the machine on the street so I don´t know what the problem is. Conncted to power, the green lights work but no motor function). Do you have an idea which 2 of the 4 metal contacts on the motor plug are the right ones to connect? I don´t want to create short circuit and leave everyone in the house in the dark. Thx

Don't blame the person! The dirt can happen really quickly. My machine is well looked after, but today I discovered the miele brand bag bag had fallen off the inlet and my machine looks as dirty as this one. And the noise ramped up . which is why I opened it up and found the bag off.
Thanks for your great video. I will attempt to clean it. Although I have nothing to vacuum it out with !

Thank you, this helped me a lot! With my S 5000, but it was all the same.
But I don't understand what is the white tape or something(?) you put on top of the lamps at 8:29 min?
Did not see you took that off, and there wasn't something like that on mine. anyway, the lamps flash grreen same as before.
    Just a little curious

Alec, just wondering, can you tell whether Miele is using a Domel motor here?? There has been speculation recently that this is the case, & noticed it is VERY similar to a Domel motor used in a Beam Alliance central vacuum here in Canada.

Hi! My Miele viento 300 was working great, than kept shutting off on the thick carpet. Now it has no suction from the bottom (main part) of the vacuum, but fine suction from the nozzle. I've taken off the nozzle, and opened the trap in the back and checked the bottom and the brush and can't find anything.
    Any thoughts?

I changed my belt and fixed the smell, i started vaccuming then after a few it started making this loud growling noise? Is thus from the belt or spinny thing? Cause maybe i did something wrong. Or is it just because the belt is brand new?

I fixed my miele with a similar issue by just cleaning the motor really well and replacing the bearings. Dealing with the motor disassembly/reassembly wasn't any harder than than the vacuum shell.

I got a used Miele S2181 recently. It does not have the dust bag holder. I ordered this bracket but it did not come with a spring. I read that some do need a torsion spring. Does my model S2181 need this spring for the dust bag holder?

obviously the nail things ripped the bag and probally even got trough the filter mat. the motor doesnt sound broken, most likely just something stuck inside. also the dirty filter mat doesnt help. the metal cap of the motor can be easely removed for checking and cleaning.

Hello everyone. I have an old Miele S4210. It started making a whining noise, I am convinced it's due to worn brushes. I know these motors aren't serviceable. But I still would like to know if anyone had ever opened one of these motors and if it's possible to pick similar brushes (Or make custom ones) and replace them? My Miele vacuum is too old to spend $100+ on a new motor. I would like to make an attempt to fix it before tossing it in the trash. Thanks for any advice!

Motor is so messy, I guess that the owner tested it like crap, so the motor dies. Thes machines do last over 10 years during good maintainence.

See thats what happens when you make a very bad use of your device.. Not even using the right bags or replacing the filters or checking the bag. Or controlling your vacuums. I'm having my Miele s512i. Already for 18 years and its still clean from inside he is still working amazing. Only the appearance is bad not that bad only it looks old but still he works fantastisc and amazing. Thats all. Electronics devices are so expensive so dont ever use them like this vacuum there.
