Watching this video when I was 6 years old made me want to be a game designer. 16 years later I’m studying for my masters degree in game design. I don’t think I can thank these guys enough for putting so much passion into this industry in its early stages. These types of guys were truly pioneers of game design.
And when actual fans of the series were working on the game and put all the effort so the game will be exactly what all fans would expect. Now is all just about the money.

Back when game devs were making games that THEY wanted to play first, then the fans. I've noticed the same about Halo. Now, it's all about money and investors.
I still think this is the same mindset most game devs hold to this day, it’s the large companies that own studios who push them and pay them to do what they want unfortunately :(

People...we lost our right to quality games when we were content with online downloadable half assed crap. Remember whe we queued up at stores? It was a work of art on the shelf. The sweat and blood of devs and animators. Now it's just, works in progress which they patch up as they see fit. We have failed.
It's a damn shame that we live in the digital age for the wrong reason for things like this. Paying 60$ for an AAA game is dreadful now on how incomplete and broken most games are! Even worse that you can pay more money to unlock extra content that is IN THE GAME ENTIRELY, play the game earlier than release date, most likely pointless add-ons with expansion passes and all... With a handful of games that I got for $60, I do regret paying that much for the games that soon go on sale for 40 bucks or less in less than a year too! I can wait for new games to be 6 months to over a year old for a sale now and man it save me a lot of money!
Man, EA did fantastic job through early and mid 2000s. I hardly remember I have ever skipped this trailer while launching the game. Same for BF 1942, every time I start the match, I loved to listen BF theme song on the loading screen.
5:40 We had so many great tracks in older games and hearing he said "I definitely see a really cool trend for music to be integrated with video games" and then looking at the lastest NFS releases just makes me sad.
Even if EA half assely remaster this game, i'd still buy it day one at full price rather than a new one from Criterion. Black Box is THE developer of Need for Speed

Criterion one is better....i used to like the original version but black box games got really boring since mw2005.....it's the same formula since then.......
It was properly made that is why it is a legend. People really loved what they were doing so we have one of the best titles ever. Intro still gives me goosebumps even after 20 years.
I thank this entire team for making this game a small part of my childhood. I lost the disc many years ago but I still have fond memories playing this with my brother and getting up super early Saturday mornings to play all day!
not regardless. The PC, GC and xbox versions were awful. The only version made by EA Black Box was the PS2 version and that one is one of the best NFS games ever made.

My eyes are actually watering thanks for uploading. This game really got me through some hard times as a kid in foster care... and every NFS after this was pure garbage... I hope these guys know that this game turned out exactly the way they wanted it to...I literally had this and San Andreas. Just these two games to survive on
True Story: in April 2020 I was 19, I was restarting playing my PlayStation 2 for the first time since 2008 and this game NFS Hot Pursuit 2 was one of the games that gives me the chills a lot better than the GameCube version. I almost cried when I got back playing that game.
Please remaster this game because 2010 was terrible compared to this. This game had a lot to offer. Free roam with cops that let you adjust the difficulty and traffic from none to heavy. helicopters with exploding barrels, rockets along with a team of 6+ cop cars trying to end the pursuit with a sick soundtrack and car list. So much freedom and options this game had. A amazing game that definitely needs to be remastered.
1:18 they are talking about "open world drivers" before they even knew what to call it and about 2/3 years before Mnc nfsu2 and others like srs made it a industry standard to expect. Thats dope. I was in HS when this came out and remember wishing for open would drivers the size of the crew then. Crazy how games develop. 15 years later I hop in my real BMW and head to the mountains and play build your cages from the stereo 🙌😊
The last real need for speed ever. It’ll never be the same, and that’s a real real shame. This and HIGHSTAKES were the pinnacle of what need for speed could ever be. Idc for graphics and hype compared to today, these games made me feel something special.

This is actually my favorite I bought a PS2 again just to play this game... The driving didn't feel as arcade and goofy as the following NFS games... And the "you're the cop" mode on this game is better to me... The same people made this game again today more modern version with a better driving simulation it would be a hit God bless these folks

It could be in my opinion the best game in Nfs-history, if some supercar could add in the game. On the top tierlist: Only three cars are in option (McLaren F1, F1 LM and Mercedes CLK-GTR) other class segment has four or five option. I would add for example: Bugatti EB 110, Ferrari Enzo (or F40), Porsche GT1 (big rival against F1 LM in Le Mans). On the PS2 are only four police car available. More cop cars would be nice (think about F1 police car would be op). I put slightly under underground and most wanted 2005, but still for me one of the best game.
It seems that the PC version and the PS2 version were miles apart. But I'm playing HP2 even today with the same pleasure and nostalgia. GG EA ! ....I mean... when EA was EA.
PC version has no single track where you can drive out the top speed of the top cars. Whats the point of a McLaren F1 if there is no single track where you can reach its 380 km/h?? It would've even been a 3rd option to choose this car on such a track. But since there is no such track, the only cars you use are F1 LM or CLK GTR in Class 1.

If you played the PS2 version, the AI has rubberbanding, so if you can get them to ram you from behind you’ll get a BIG boost in speed, I reached 264 MPH in the F1 thanks to a CLK GTR.
And goddamn why they dropped so many features?? e.g. no weather, but weather was planned. Why they didnt moved the release date a bit for a better PC game??
Performance and time constraints, Keep in mind all hands on deck was on the PS2 version as it had the largest market and the PC and Xbox version was done by a subsidiary developer of EA, not Blackbox themselves as they were working on the PS2 version.
The good old days when EA used to make their games by themselves! Nowadays they'll hire an incompetent studio to write the code which is why the NFSs from 2012 till present day are glitchy and unplayable.
