  • It's even a few days later now since I did this reaction... but i finally got wind of the new DLC trailer for Final Fantasy 16 and my interest is peaked! Yes I'm gonna have a good whinge about the ending of 16 and that my hopes for this DLC story are pretty marmite. But there's potential here! Leviathan being one of the mystery elements and hidden tether of Ultima. My hopes that this recontextualizing the ending of FF16 have already been dashed. Apparently Square Enix have confirmed that The rising tide DLC is set pre ending of Final Fantasy 16. So a change to Clive's fate seems to be a no go. But regardless. My reaction is of happy curiosity and gonna see where this goes!

Idk I personally thought the ending was pretty straightforward, I understand everyone has their theories but it was pretty clear to me he died, and so because of that I don’t need an alternate ending to the game I liked it, it was unfair and kind of expected from the dark world of 16. The emotions it brought out were beautiful and I feel like putting in an alternate ending where they live kind of ruins the meaning of the ending in general. They knew it was a suicide mission they were up against a god, coming back was wishful thinking. And the resolve that Clive has in the end, accepting that this is it for him and erasing ultimas reminisces from the world, it harkens back to Cid and how he was saying how he’d fight for the world even if he wouldn’t be remembered or people wouldn’t be greatful, because a world where you can live and die how you want is what’s most important. If that doesn’t come to a head at the end of the game then it makes all that kinda useless, and Clive taking up Cids legacy wouldn’t mean as much if he also didn’t give everything to save the world. I love happy endings of course but half the game just tells us this ain’t that type of story.

Yoshi-p said they not going to change the game end, but they will add epilogue to the world of FF16...

  • @Senpaicrusade

There definitely going to be some alternate ending or a addition/epilogue. Yoshie p is known to tell half truths. He said there is not going to be a change to the current ending. However he did not say there wont be ADDITIONS to the ending.

If anyone loves 16's ending and/or found peace with it. Please share with me your secret lmao

Just finished playing both DLC's back to back and they were great. Felt amazing playing 16 again. Especially Rising Tide is a nice story addition and has some really nice FF14 references that fit into 16 just as well. I'd defo check the DLC's out if i were you once you are done with Rebirth maybe :D

Pez you should really go back and try the game again with the dlcs on final fantasy mode. I think it’s exactly what you wanted from the combat.

Watch the live stream gameplay, they have Tonberry and also talk about where this place is and elaborate a little on what’s going on

I made my piece with the ending solely because I'm in the camp that believes Clive survived the end of the game. He lost his fighting ability with the curse affecting him and wrote the War of the Eikons book under Joshua's name. That's what they hinted at with some of the endgame side quests and feels like a good ending for his character.

I loved this game and am super psyched for this DLC. Leviathan moves/abilities looks fun af

  • @kwon7378

16 was a full game, 15 had so many plot holes and unexplained things and what ifs after so it made you want more, especially because the trailers before. Both are my favorite

Just saying Clive with Wings (Logos) cant be for nothing. He will live. There's no doubt about it. Square is just being cheeky.

  • @and13996

I think there was time skip between the time when Clive unleashed his final power on origin and when he lied on the beach. What if actually he didn't just destroy the origin..but he also teleported himself up to the Metia and fight the most final battle with his winged form ?

I don't care, I'm hyped for this! I'm curious what this DLC will do to the overall story. I know it's stated that won't change the ending, but that seems odd to even mention. Either it's to temper expectations or they did give some sort of resolution. Anyway, the trailer music is still a banger, and I'll be playing this. The Omega DLC was pretty fun, too bad the dungeon wasn't just in the game.

  • @FinalFantasyPeasant

I annoy even myself not being able to let go of 16's ending and stop it from becoming a over negative narrative I keep repeating... but it's where I'm at man. Damn it man... why couldn't they have brought it home. Why couldn't Dion get a well deserved finale. Why couldn't Ultima have been somewhat interesting. Why couldn't this DLC have been like any of the theory vids I riffed and included something meaningful. I mean hell... they put a trailer out talking about undoing an underserved fate and its not about any of the three legends who fell at the end. Putting in a damn timekeeper and having an angel looking Clive. Square just be pulling on a thread and flirting with us over something they know we are all gonna misconstrued... there's no plan to change the ending but you gonna tease us like this?

  • @FinalFantasyPeasant

So I've just seen (after this react) that Yoshi confirmed this is not going to recontextualize or change anything with the ending of FF16. So it's a pre-ending DLC that Clive/Jill must have SOMEHOW gone on without us knowing. Its my least favourite kind of throw away insertion and not gonna lie... pretty bummed its not choosing to change things like FF15's dawn of the future was going to. But a new battle stance and a chance to be in this GORGEOUS azz game is something I'll gladly take.

Ngl i barely understood a word of what you said in this video

  • @YA-vs5wu

compare final fantasy 16 to final fantasy rebirth, i think rebirth is way overrated, as for 16 i think it's a solid good game like 8/10.
