    I’ve done this on several bikes and it works great. BUT, be aware that the ID of the Magura hose is slightly bigger than Shimano. So while the Shimano barb seems like it works. It will eventually start to leak. Use Magura hose and Magura barb with the Shimano olive and nut. 👍🏽

      Glad to see someone with prior experience on shigura. So for some reason trying that combo wouldn’t seal right. I know there’s 2 types of shimano barbs. Silver and gold. Gold being the thickest. Trying the combo you’re talking didn’t work. Tried 3 times until I did the gold shimano one. Kinda weird

    I have done the shigura recently.Replaced my MT7 HC3 levers with Shimano 2014 xt levers.
    Two rides in North Van on Fromme mountain.Ran them on Pipeline and Expresso.
    I have found a lot more forearm pump over the other levers.
    I am going to switch them back.I feel the HC3 lever provides better modulation.

      They’re really powerful. Quick tips. I ended up using the gold shimano barb which is suppose to be thicker and should fit the magura hose better. I also did the free stroke adjustment. You basically back off the free stroke screw and then bleed it. If you want less free stroke you just screw it in. Good luck!

    How does the lever feel?
    Is it solid and you modulate the brakes by applying more pressure or does the lever move once the brakes start to work and you modulate with more movement?
    My Maguras currently have a rock solid lever and I want to check the Shimano levers give the same

    • @CalaveraChronicles

    Hi.I'm going to do the same with my brakes.I'm thinking of using Magura Royal blood oil.Magura oil has a higher viscosity and withstands higher temperatures and heating during operation.What do you think?What pin you use on a hose?Magura or Shimano pin?What ID (inside diameter) BH-90 is 2.1mm wide ID,and BH-59 is 2.5mm ID,the BH-59 pins are made of brass usually,and BH-90 out of stainless steel?Obviously for Magura oil
    it would be better with a bigger one ID pin.

    • @CalaveraChronicles
      @CalaveraChronicles  9 місяців тому

      Sorry bro I missed your message! Yeah I used royal blood on this set up. I used the gold barb which I believe is the wider one. I did try the silver one but it was too small. I’m at a year now and no issues! I just swapped out the rear pads though. I’m at 1000 miles on the decoy so I feel like they lasted pretty good. Good luck!

    • @CalaveraChronicles
      @CalaveraChronicles  2 місяці тому +1

      @@zdravo4 so as far as the whole set up goes. There’s definitely a more on and off feel. Really powerful. Definitely takes a couple rides to get use to. At first I thought I was having trouble with traction but in reality I was locking up the wheels a lot easier. Once I got use to it I didn’t get as much hand fatigue on longer downhills. Idk why but I also feel like my pads last a little longer. I love magura but the levers sucked. They would eventually start to leak and they are expensive to swap out. Mt7 master cylinder levers=$180each xt brake master cylinder levers $50-$80 each. The magura levers also were more time consuming to bleed. So I guess my answer would be as a whole set up. Brakes are more powerful,easier to work on and more affordable(depending on what brake pads you use on the magura calipers since there are 2 kinds. 4 piece or 2 piece. I feel like they both work the same for me.) so if you prefer a stronger bike with less modulation this will work great for you. I’m still on this set up. The only thing I’ve done is put new pads on which I just got the purple galfer ebike pads which I’m loving!

    • @zdravo4
      @zdravo4 2 місяці тому +1

      @@CalaveraChronicles OK great to hear that you are satisfied in positive way. Well I just meant to write try Galfer. I had XTR 180mm rotors, brand new and I didn’t liked them. So I bought Galfer 180mm with Galfer Red pads (its advanced compoumd, purple is even better as it’s for ebikes). So sombine that kind of rotor with your setup and you have the best possible brake combo. In the future I will probabyl go for Magura calipers, 4 pot of course

    Spend far more time in shop removing this setup and going to a full brake of either brand. Imo a shigura setup has terrible modulation and is just a bad idea in general. I refuse to fit mixed brake parts now.

    • @CalaveraChronicles
      @CalaveraChronicles  Рік тому

      So far this set up has been really good to me on the ebike. I just recently did a trail where it’s steep,fast and long I felt no brake fade or hand/finger fatigue. I do get how it’s not for everyone though. Just like sram isn’t for everyone . Is there any problem I should look for? Im at 120 miles on them now.

    • @Adam-vm8kp
      @Adam-vm8kp Рік тому +2

      @@CalaveraChronicles I can only speak from my own experience but the first ones I rode on a cube ebike were eye watering they were so powerful, but they were more on/off than anything else I’ve used and would get spongy much faster as the pads wear than I expected. That was the only setup I’ve tried for a fair bit but tested lots at work. Problem for me would be firstly warranty which is void on both parts, choice of fluid as the mineral oil additives differ slightly and each make their seals specifically for that formula mineral although saying that most issues come from the hose connectors or damage to the levers. I get that people don’t like the plastic feel on maguras and I seem to have been lucky with my mt7’s despite a few crashes but brakes is the one thing I do not want any concerns about in terms of failures. I’m not a sram fan either the only dot brakes I like are the hopes. All that being said it comes down to feel at the lever for me and that is purely subjective so if you like the setup then you send it buddy 👍
