  • With the release of the Fuji XT4, it got me thinking if it would be worth the upgrade. I'll be honest, I'm normally weak and I love new gear, but this year I'm turning a new leaf and sticking with my gear until there's a major reason I need a new camera.
    Since I already have the Fujifilm XT2, XT3, and XH1, I thought it'd nice to chat about them compared to the new features of the XT4.
    While the XT4 looks great, since I already have a full Fuji stable, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping they'll release something killer next year for the XH2.
    And for those considering making the move to Fujifilm, the XT2, XT3 and XH1 are excellent choices right now since you can save a ton of money second hand, so look at your local Kijiji or Craig's List.
    I ran into some audio issues, so I promise better audio in the next vid! And a big thanks in advance to the awesome UA-camrs I follow and borrowed the clips from. Hope that's ok! Please check out their channels!

    Ran into some audio issues, so I promise better audio and planning for the next video. Just needed to get started, you know?
    I'm sure I missed a lot of good points, so let's discuss and chat about Fuji/camera gear. I love nerding out on this stuff.

    UPDATE: I was trying the XH1 with the 18-55 and there was no jump in panning, so that's win!

      About the sideway flipping screen: on professional videocameras, the screen is also sideways/off center. I think the X-T4 is Fuji's answer to the rising demand of youtubers/vloggers. Yet I see everywhere videos that say to not buy the XT4 and go with the XT3 (I don't mean your video). Most youtube filmmakers go with the first shunned then loved Canon EOS R...so there's really no place for Fuji in the vlogger's camera arsenal. But to add to the screen poblem... when using the camera in a cage, the screen becomes completely unusable if you dont use an external monitor, but not all situations allow for a big rig with external monitor... I use the XH1 for video and photo work and I absolutely love it. Sometimes the size bothers me, but this camera is just so comfortable to hold, with or without batterygrip. XH1+batterygrip+16/23/35mm F2 and you can shoot all day long.
      My suggestion to people would be: XH1 if you shoot professional handheld videowork and professional photography, XT3 if you shoot video on a gimble, XT4 if you vlog or film yourself at a desk.
      One last point: I don't get Fuji's product strategy lately. They released the XH1 in early 2018 as a flagship, then 6 months later the XT3 with better specs EXCEPT IBIS was released. Now they release the XT4 with everything better AND IBIS but they still label the XH1 as flagship. The XT4 should have been the XH2 to be honest. If they come out with the XH2, what specs is it going to have? 8K internal, 6K 600fps? A brand-new AF system? More MP? It will take at least two years until the XH2 because of the XT4. Releasing an XH1 body with XT4 specs would be an underwhelming move for a flagship camera, but I digress.

      Mind. Art. Creativity. Thx for taking the time to comment! And I agree with you on all points. Like any piece of gear or creating art in general, it’s all subjective you have to think hard about what tools you’ll need to create what you’re creating.
      And for the Fuji line up, I know eh? It seems like the xh and xt line will just end up being the same as each other spec wise leaving the decision coming down to if you like the more DSLR body/handling over the xt body.
      I love my xh1 for wedding days where it’s long shoot day’s so the ergonomics is better for video. But I like my xt3 for walk around and photography days.
      Guess we’ll see what Fuji does! I’m also excited as I hear more 3rd party lenses in the making for Fuji. Should be cool to have some other options.
      Stay safe!

      Hi man! I'd like to have your opinion since I'm not really sure which one to get. I'm torn between xh1 and xt3, these days, secondhand xh2 with battery grip goes arounr $850 and secondhand xt3 body only goes around $800-$850 and a brand new xt3 sells for $950-$999. I mostly do stills and portraits and I travel a lot using fuji 56mm 1.2 and 18-135mm lenses. can you give me your thoughts? I currently have xt2 and I'm selling it for the upgrade. Thank you!

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Kx Jake hmmmm... good question. I think it would come down to ergonomics and weight.
      The xh1 feels really good in the hand because of the dslr styling and the shutter button is so satisfying. The ibis will also be nice if you want the extra steady shot or wanted to do video here and there. But it is a heavier body.
      With the xt3 it’ll handle the same as your xt2, just snappier.
      So if you can handle xh1 then you can see if you like that styled ergonomics. If you like how you’re xt2 handles, then get the xt3.
      Or, the xt2 is also a nice cam so perhaps wait until the prices of the xt4 drop and then jump on that.
      I think you’ll feel it’s a bigger upgrade jumping to an xt4 if you can. Your xt2 should be more than capable for now.
      Just my thoughts! Keep me posted on what you go for. :)

    A Xt-4 is $200 more than the Xt-3 so I feel for two hundred dollars you're getting a lot more. Flip out screen, 240fps, bigger battery, better weather sealing, etc. The Xt-4 seems like a good deal to me.

    It isn't a deal breaker to me, however I wish the X-T line kept the non-flip out screen setup, and the X-H line had the flip out screen. Obviously a screen that is some how and X-T3 screen and a flip out screen in one is the solution that gets approval from both camps.

    I had the Xt3 and sold it. I do mostly portrait and detail shots, and I need to crop a lot to deliver highlights of my shots. With the XT3 the RAW file had this worm looking grain when zooming in up close. Does anyone know if that was fix on the camera or is it something that has to do with Lightroom? I don't think I recall this issue with Jpgs though that by the way look great SOOC

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Gaston Shutters Hey Gaston! I hear ya. It def is an issue, although it seems to be with Lightroom as you don’t see the problem is Capture One.
      That being said, LR is part of my workflow so you would think Adobe or Fuji would fix it. I think issues like this is why some fans say to switch to the Bayer sensor bc the raw files are easier to work with.
      My work around with the files in LR is to put the sharpening mask way up so it just captures the edges or I don’t sharpen at all. I don’t like my images to be overly sharpened and if I want a sharper look, I do it with a touch of texture or clarity increase.

    I own 2 xt3s with the grip and an xt4 I use the xt3 more than the xt4 I agree with most of your points you don't need to switch it mainly down to the tilt screen because when it comes down to it I prefer the tilt screen for real-estate portraiture and gimbal work but I do have to say as a person starting my own photo business so far I have been never let down by my fuji equipment
    On a side note I see fujifilm releasing the xt4 as a compliment to the xt3 because most pros have 2 cameras and the xt3 and xt4 work great together just like the a73 and the a7s3

    Question: If I could choose between a used X-H1 in very good shape for around 790 $ or a brand new X-T3 for around 1.030 $ (without taxes), what should I choose? Of course I'm primarily thinking of video skills and IBIS. On the other hand, I would work a lot with a tripod, and I was using Panasonic's G7 (no IBIS) before and always had good footage filming from hand with OIS lenses. So to break the question down: Should I worry that the X-T3 with OIS lenses (e.g. the 18-55 or the 50-230) is worse than the G7 + 14-42 kit lens? Thanks for every answer!

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Bernhard Madlener hmmmm.. great question! So maybe in your case if ibis isn’t as important, my next question would be what style of camera/ergonomics do you prefer?
      The xh1 is bigger, more DSLR style which makes it nicer for longer shoot days because of the grip.
      If you want the best quality and pixel peep, then you want the xt3 since it technically does have a better sensor and the quality is nicer even in HD. But, I think you’d be hard pressed to notice the difference if not seen side by side.
      Here’s a vid it shot of my wife for a client product shoot (aija is wearing the black dress outside). All were handheld with the xt3 and 16-55. The orbiting shot around the car was with a gimbal, but handheld other than that. Actually, all the videos for “ooobaby” were xt3 handheld.
      And yes, I realize some are quite shaken but I wasn’t being super careful with those (girl in black top). I wanted to add some energy to the clips.

      Hey! In the first sequence, I believe it was 23mm f2 (silver), 35mm 1.4 and 56 1.2.
      I think (not 100 since I don’t have the adapter) if you use something like a fringer adapter, it can use ois from a Third party lens.
      But it depends on what you’re doing and if you mean for photo or video. If for video, you can handhold an xt3 just fine. Add some weight to it to help remove micro jitters.
      Having ibis for video is ok for static but can be jumpy when you’re panning so there are times I turn it off. You just have to get used to the tools and what kind of shots you’re trying to get.

      haha funny enough, now in 2023 it would be the XT4. Even though I'm tempted by the xh2 and xh2s, I'll likely pick up another XT4 for my wedding and commercial work.
      It has great image quality, the F Log assist is a must for me, great battery life. The one thing the xh2 series has that I wish the xt4 had is no time limit when video recording.

      Glad you found it helpful, bro!
      If you can find a used xh1 for 1k, I’d go for it! I’m hoping fuji will update the ibis as well, but I don’t think it will happen.
      However, I’m finding if I’m a little less steady then the ibis doesn’t jump as much. And with the 18-55 there is no jump and super smooth because it then gains the stabilization of the lens.
      Either way, solid camera so I love it. I use it for my video works even though the xt3 quality is a touch better.

      2 things:

    Have had an X-T3 for just under a year. Just bought an X-T4 body it was on eBay at a bargain price. The curious thing is that before I got into Fujifilm I had a whole range of Panasonic and Olympus cameras all with fully articulating screens and never had a problem with them. I have found since getting the X-T4 that like you I prefer using the centered screen on the X-T 3. Really enjoyed the video.

      ooooo, that's a toughie! I wouldn't be qualified to tell you which since I've never used the Panny.
      I think the best advice I could give you is to go to your local camera shop when the XT4 comes out and see if they have both in camera so you can check em out in person combined with some research on the specs they offer.
      For the most part, new cameras are all comparable. It's down to how it feels in your hand and which you get excited to you more. For example, at the time I bought my XT3, the Sony A7 series were super hot by all the video creators, but I found holding it and the images I saw a little too clinical for me whereas I was excited about the retro style and feel of the Fuji combined with the colour science.
      So, I say go with your gut. Worse thing is having buyer's remorse!

    I know this is a late comment. i recently sold my old Nikon D610 to switch to a more portable mirror less system. I want a Fuji camera to be my main camera that I use for landscape photography with good video capabilities to capture my outdoor adventures (ie. Climbing, back country skiing, backpacking, etc.) I want to make high quality stuff but it will mainly be for my personal use/beginning a little youtube channel. My gut is that the XT-2 will likely meet that requirement. However I am a tech geek so the XT-3 capabilities are alluring. Is the XT-2 capabilities in the video department good enough for probably 70/30 photo and video content with the ability to grow my video capabilities going forward? Or would the XT-3 be worthwhile to splurge for up front?

      Based on the way you phrased that question, it sounds like your heart is leaning towards the xt3 and I would say yes, go for it because the price drop in the used market means some nice deals out there and it shouldn’t be a whole lot more than an xt2, so you might as well!

    I am Nikon dslr commercial shooter, wanted to try mirrorless so two days ago I got myself used XT2 mint condition for about 500$, I was shocked how compact and complicated it is. So far I hate two things about it, the power on/off switch, easy to hit by mistake and the menu system confusing a bit. But XT2 has quick start up comparing to dslr and no lagging as some people say. Now I am looking to buy lenses, still searching for good all-around lens. I tried the 18-55, camera balance not good at all with zoom lenses I think, so I might go for primes F2's, fuji lenses has good build quality but a bit pricey. Thanks for the video

      To be honest, I’ve been doing some shoots lately with the xt3 straight up hand held and not being too stable about it. Haha. They were little fashion clips so I wanted the movement, but there are easy ways to steady the cam.
      Even with the xh1 that has ibis, you see how it jumps so I’ve been shooting with the ibis off during pans and then ok if I’m standing still. Having a cage and making it heavier helps. You can also get creative with with camera straps to help you out.
      So let me know what type of scenario you’re shooting in and what you’re hoping to achieve. Hopefully I can share some insights.

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому

      @@serafinmora1160 Hmmm... if the shots are long, sustained and you're literally following then chances are a gimbal would be your friend regardless of camera.
      If it's just clips to put together in sequence later then the xt3 will be great. You can also use a monopod or shoulder rig.
      I guess I'm trying to give you options to think about because the money you save on the xt3 body is money you could put towards nice glass. However, if you really feel like you want the best right now then go for the xt4 so you don't have buyer's remorse. Tough call!
      As for lenses, 16-55 is super versatile for any paid gigs. And then the 35mm 1.4 will give you a great images for any portrait and detail work.

    Few think closely about the massive advantage of the stills/movie mode switch for true hybrid shooters. For instance, stills photographers who need to also pick up a little b-roll here and their for their event work. The completely isolated menus and settings for each type of shooting to me is money in the bank. Time and fuss saved in the moment, seamless switching, and no worries about controls overlap that either ruins the stills shot or the movie mode. That alone is reason enough to switch, but then there’s IBIS etc. which extends the usefulness of the camera into lower light scenarios, working with longer lenses, on and on. It is easy to look at the spec sheet and say to yourself, “No big deal.” But an extra EV of low light performance here and there puts more shots in the camera, aka more opportunities to make the client happy. Such an easy decision over any previous Fujifilm camera. The only problem will be availability.

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Hey BT, thanks for taking the time to comment!
      I agree with you on the photo/video switch. I had mentioned it, but started cutting things out as the video was getting too long. I was thinking that it is really useful since I have shot a wedding doing both photo and video and did find it cumbersome to switch back and forth so often making sure I was in the right mode. However, I think an even better solution would be to have a separate record button so you can just jump right into video recording. I think the Sony A7 series does this?
      As for IBIS, I mentioned I loved the improvements they've done to it for the XT4, but what I'm saying is if you could save almost $1500 and buy the XH1 so you'll still get IBIS. And as an update, I was trying the XH1 with the 18-55 and there was no jump in panning, so that's cool!

      Atomic Pixel I have two X-H1 cameras, and yes for someone operating on a tight budget, these will provide a lot of the X-T4 functionality assuming you can find one. B&H in the US seems to have a few in stock, but Adorama doesn’t even have one in the used department at the moment. At the same time, just having to cope with that very outdated USB Micro-b connector is a bit of a deal breaker, especially if you do anything tethered. And you’re video modes are much more limited. I already have 2 preorders in place. Ready to move on. As for the separate shutter buttons, I tend to think of the Fujifilm approach as much cleaner. Flip a switch, all the menu context changes, settings fall right into place and the rest of your mechanics stay the same.

      Hey! I say snag a nice used xt3. The used market is looking great for one.
      I sold the d5600 shortly after I picked up the xt3. And no, I’ve never owned a Panasonic. I’m all fuji now. :)
      My history went: Nikon d3100, Nikon d7000, Sony nex 5-t, Nikon d5600, Fuji x70, fuji xt20, fuji xt3, fuji xt2, fuji xh1.
      I can’t wait to see what they do for the XH2.
      Do you have a Fuji now or what system?

    I personally don’t think the new features on the XT-4 is worth the $500 difference if you already own the XT-3. It’s like upgrading and IPhone 7 to iPhone7s lol. I’d wait to see what Fuji has in store later down the road and maybe consider getting an T4 when the price drops.

      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Hey buddy! My bad -- I'm not sure how I missed this!
      That is a tough call because both are great. For me, I've been using my XH1 as my video camera and my xt3 as my photo cam. XH1 for video mainly because of the larger grip, ibis (when I need it) and the fact that I keep it rigged up.
      Even though that XT3 has better video, the XH1 is good enough for me (and for weddings).
      Just wanted to give you some insight, but for you, I would say think about if you like the body style and ergonomics of the xt3 or more dslr like, which is the xh1.
      The xh1 would give you a nicer grip and feel more balanced on the 2 lenses you mentioned, but it's heavier.
      So think of ergonomics and if weight matters. I think you would have to have a hawk eye to see a quality difference between the time as far as images and video.
      The other option... If the xt2 is serving you fine, ride it out until next year. The prices of the xt4 will drop and fingers crossed we'll get an xh2. So, more options!
      Hope that was helpful in some way! haha

      Atomic Pixel Atomic Pixel man this is what I did lol. I never got around with deciding which body to get and went on a shopping spree with glasses lol I bought a bag of legacy vintage lenses and found my new love in photography in them I also ended up getting the 23mm 1.4 and I realized that my xt2 is more than capable for my needs and I just need an extra body for stills. So yesterdey I got myself a mint xt1 body with batgrip for $330 including taxes and I guess it’s quite a good deal. I’m planning to use it on my vintage lenses.
      It’s funny because you’ll think that you are saving a lot with vintage lenses but you will end up buying a bunch of them at the same focal length and it’ll be too late when you realize that you just spent so much for lenses that has almost same fc with half of em getting stored most times hahaha tho I’m really happy with my decisions so far. Cheers!
      I really love shooting portraits so I can’t help buying a bunch of vintage for different bokeh effects. This sucks 😭😭😭

    Love your vid. I have the XT-3, and XH-1. The point of the ergonomics between the two is spot on for me. The love the feel of the XH1 in my hands and the shutter button placement. With the shallower grip on the XT3 moving my hand back a little to get to the shutter button makes it feel less secure in my hands. Brought he XT3 about a year ago and wished it had everything in the XT4. I like the option of ibis and the battery life, plus the easier switching to movie mode is a great change. Bottom line for me is if I could get all that in the form of an XH1 I think tha would be for me, so I’ll wait hopefully the XH1 line is going to be updated. Thanks for the video I’ll buy more glass instead.

      Here’s some interior shots on our site so you can see what I mean. Shooting inside can be quite tricky, so if you can get a good grasp on merging photos and taming the dynamic range then you could apply it to landscape photography.

      I just bought the 55-200 last week so it’ll be my first time trying it out. I bought it to use during the ceremony so I can stay more on the sidelines to not distract from the wedding as much as possible.
      The 16-55 f2.8 is definitely a staple and main lens. I’ll also bring the 23 f1.4 for the getting ready and perhaps reception depending how dark things get.
      I’ll be delivering a video to a client tomorrow so once they see it, I’ll upload to the channel. Might do some commentary to talk about my process and how I went about the day.

I havent purchased a cam yet simply because I don’t really like the idea of buying an “entry level” camera just to have a camera. • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Dave! Great question. I would consider a few things:
      1. Moving from iPhone to a camera camera will be an upgrade in many ways and will be a new set of skills to learn in order to master the camera and way you shoot -- which is the fun part! And nothing wrong even if you don't choose Fuji as "entry level" is really subjective. I could get the same level of photos with a Nikon d3100 (my first dslr) today as I could with my Xt3. The difference being when you step up from "entry level" the ergonomics and features are better, but quality doesn't always change that much (this meaning many of us use photos for sharing with family or Instagram. If you printed large scale then yes, there is a difference).
      2. If money is not an issue - likely just go for the XT4 as it is the best right now in the Fuji line and has features that I'm sure you'll enjoy for years to come.
      If you have a set budget, then perhaps think of an XT3 and then have money for some nice lenses. Oh man, lenses is another realm in itself haha. But you know what I mean.
      3. Both XT4 and XT3 will be super fun for you if it'll be your first camera camera. Biggest difference being do you think having a swivel screen is something you need in the way you shoot photos/capture moments.
      For a little context, my camera journey went Nikon d3100, d7000, sony nex series, fuji x70, nikon d5500... sold it all and got fuji xt3, xh1 and xt2.
      The way fuji looks, feels, shoots is just really fun for me. I've also been testing out fuji recipes which is colour tones and adjustment in camera so you get a look without having to edit after. I'll have to make a series on that. It's been great.
      Anyways, hopefully this was helpful and please let me know what you end up going with. :)
      Cheers,
      Tuan

      Dave agreed! Fuji’s are just really fun to shoot with. For lenses, the 16-55 is my fav for wedding days and moments where I need range. With the latest firmware upgrade the X-T3 autofocus was improved from really good, to great, and I've heard that there could be yet another firmware upgrade for it in the fall. I'm sure the 4 is going to be a great camera as well, but with IBIS, and the rotating screen, it seems to be marketed squarely at the video people.

      Joe Toole Yep, I with ya on all those points. As another commenter pointed out, hopefully the XH2 goes even more video centric and the xt3 could stay more photo.
      There’s no perfect cam, but for just photography, the xt3 style screen is perfect.

    I definitely think you nailed it. Its tough to be patient waiting for the next version of the XH series but lets face it. The XHI was only the first generation of the XH series and as good and promising as it was on intro to the market place, photography reviewers saw the need to critique a lot about the camera that needed tweaking. I was very excited by all the great specs but never felt it was a fully appealing camera. I'm also waiting for the next update to see if they listened to what it needed.

    Great video! What do you think about the Sony a6600(1200usd) over the XH1(1000usd with battery grip)?

If you want to buy it seperatly, you won't get it here for less than 800.- Euros. So at the end it makes a price difference between X-H1 and X-T3 (both availible for 1000 Euro) an the x-T4 of 500 Euros. For that amount of money you get IBIS, ultra fast autofocus, very good eye recognition, better menu (love switching from video to photo in the menu) larger batteries, and and...

    I am located in Toronto, where would you recommend looking for used fujifilm x series body/ gear besides Kijiji, Facebook marketplace, and eBay?

      Hey there! I’ve always gotten my used gear on kijiji or fb. I got a really good deal on our xt2 at the time from a guy in Toronto, actually. I’m seeing the xt3 drop to the 1300 range on kijiji. I would throw out some $1000 offers and see what people counter with. Getting an xt3 for about $1200 would be an amazing deal. I would highly recommend trying to grab an xt3 over an xt2 since the price range is getting similar. But, that being said, I bet if you keep your eye out you could find an xt2 in the 700-800 range. As well as how you set up your flash? Can you show us your workflow process of how your organize and post process after a photography gig? I tend to shoot more compositionally pleasing photos with a fixed prime lens, however I think this may be just a mental barrier that I can overcome. I currently have a 16-50 Xc lens. I’m thinking of investing in A) the 23mm f2, and eventually the 56mm f2 or B) investing in the 18-55 XF and eventually 56mm f2 what would you suggest. Satya Yaya hey buddy! A few things I would consider:
      1. Do you want the option of buying different lenses? It would allow you to expand your tools later on if you think you might need it. Therefore, xt2.
      2. Body design is a matter of preference. If you’re ok with the 23mm fixed focal length and like the range finder style of the x100f, go for that. Some may like body of the xt2 more. Some like the x100 more.
      3. Xt2 has a flip screen which is useful for low shooting or portrait orientation shooting
      4. Xt2 would also give you better video capabilities if you want to capture video moments here and there.
      So, xt2 more versatile overall, but x100 gives a fun, compact package to carry around.
      Best of luck!

      As far as I know, they’re the same sensor (xt30 and xt3) so I would think you’ll get the same results in a small body. Heck, even between the xt3 and xh1 you likely couldn’t tell a difference unless you had them side by side.
      Put it this way, the xt3 is newer and “better” sensor/video quality, but I’ve been using my xh1 for video projects and xt3 for photo.
      I’m almost done and edit for an interior design client. I used the xh1 handheld as we toured the home. You’ll see it’s plenty good enough! I am a photographer that is contemplating on getting the X-T4 because I really want to dive into video making and the IBIS would be ideal to utilise the prime lenses. Did you try to film with X-T3 and with primes? If so, did you use a gimbal to stabilise?

      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Denis Khotkin hey man! I’ve been filming with the xt3 handheld more lately. Even with the xh1 there are times I film without the ibis.
      The key is to be stable, add weight or use a gimbal.
      I tried my moza aircross the other day but ended up shooting handheld after a few minutes. I just find gimbals so cumbersome.
      Plus I’m not doing long sustained shots so I can even things out in post with the stabilizer in Final Cut Pro.
      If you need to do long follow shots then a gimbal would be nice or monopod.
      With primes, If you stay 23mm or wider, you won’t notice camera shake as much.

    The button placement on the x-t-series (apart from it having a smaller grip) is because the camera is made, or at least more fitted for the old rolleiflex type of shooting where you hold the camera Lowe and look down on the screen. Hence why the entire control scheme looks the way it does.

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому

      Interesting you say that. Never thought of it that way but I do find when I hold it lower I use my thumb to hit the shutter button.

      Reminds of the first camera I bought at a local TV-store when I was about ten. I went through litteraly a shit ton of boxes with outdated cameras, radios, video cameras and what not in the basement. Gave me a Yashica Electro 35 (wich I still have 25 years later) for about 50 Swedish crowns, approx 5 usd. 😉

    Does anyone know how to set the Fuji XT3 so that when your shooting a sunset in video mode and your in aperture priority and the light starts getting low and the camera is reducing the shutter speed, to make it do so smoothly without making it flicker because it goes down in far to much steps of light? my sony A7R2 does it flawlessly and smoothly without any flickering so i know this camera should be able to as well..i just dont know how to set it to reduce the shutter speed smoothly instead of big jerky steps like it does now

      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому

      Cloud9Photography hey! I’ll test tomorrow for you and report back.
      But to be honest, manual is the way to go but I guess you’re thinking for more casual or quick video clips?
      Have you played around with auto iso for video? Anyways, I’ll play around and see if I can find a way for it to auto expose without any flickering

    • @cloud9photography126
      @cloud9photography126 4 роки тому

      @@AtomicPixel no , i shoot video sunsets then speed them up..so auto iso wouldn't work for me because by time the sun was setting id be on iso 25000 and it would be a grain fest lol, so i set it to aperture priority which makes the camera auto adjust the shutter speed as the light gets dimmer..the problem is..it does it in such large increments that you visibly see the image getting brighter in a fast jerky way like a flash...and my sony a7r2 doesn't do that..it does it smoothly..so im trying to figure out how to make the xt3 do the same..and thank you so much for taking the time to investigate this!

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому

      Cloud9Photography ahhhh I gotcha. Time lapse like. So would you keep it set so you would see the sun set rather than have the camera try to correct the exposure as the sun goes down?

    • @cloud9photography126
      @cloud9photography126 4 роки тому

      @@AtomicPixel its not timelaspe, its video lapse....so what i do is i shoot 4 hours of video as the sun sets, then in post i just...speed it up and add music.....when the sun gets lower and lower the light gets less and less so the camera being set on aperture priority mode, reduces the shutter speed more and more as the light dims so that the brightness of the video picture can be maintained.....the problem is...the sony does this very gradually and smoothly.....the fuji does it very jerky and flashy..you can see flashes every time it reduces the shutter speed and its annoying...trying to figure out of theres some way to make it do it smoothly like the sony can or if the fuji is just a shit camera in that respect and cant do it like the sony lol

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому

      Cloud9Photography True, maybe it’s can’t do it as smooth as the Sony, but what I thought when people did the video lapse it’s keep constant, but you would know better than I. Never tried it.

    yah :( I'm with xt20 right now and I'm focusing upgrade to xt3 or xt4. What do you prefer for me, xt4 or xt3 to save money on lens ? I do video and photo together.

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Yuki! Side note: are you Japanese (the name) or are you Vietnamese (saw your vidoes and they were in Saigon)? If Viet, I'm Viet, too! I also subbed to your channel. :)
      Anyways, back to your question -- I actually had an XT20 before I bought my XT3. The XT20 was a perfect size for travelling and I don't think you'll notice much of a difference image quality wise, to be honest.
      The main reason I upgraded was because I do client work, weddings, events so I prefer the ergonomics of the XT3 for faster shooting and handling.
      If you're just creating for yourself then here are my considerations:
      1. Keep the xt20 and invest in better lenses (not sure which you have right now). I'm also working on a lens series. Good timing! I'm hoping to post the first video in that series by tomorrow.
      2. Do you simply want a newer camera or one that handles better? The xt20 can feel small or a little cramped, so the xt3 will definitely feel nicer. And this is subjective, but having a new camera is fun and may encourage you to go out and create more.
      3. I would only splurge to get the xt4 if budget is no concern or if you really need the flip screen for self recording or ibis for handheld video.
      This all goes back to what you want out of your camera and what you intend to use it for. We all want the "best" tools, but depending on your purpose, it may be overkill. Let me know what you're thinking and what lenses you have and then I can help further!

      @@AtomicPixel Hi Atomic! I'm vietnamese :)) my name Hana Yuki was named by my japanese trainer, the reasons why I want to get X-T3 or 4 because I want a better camera for my business work, like fashion, beauty shooting or recording works, also I use handheld quite much and it's quite terrible because xt20 do not have IBIS :'> ( I want to stick with Fuji because I donot like other brands :'> ), also, I plan to buy one more and still keep xt20, for me, xt20 is perfect for me when going outside for relaxing, walking or going coffee with my friends.
      The reasons why I confuse about xt3 or xt4 are prices and their specifics. Xt3 has a better price and I can save money for some lens, and I love tilt-screen on xt3, what I donot like on XT4, but Xt4 has bettery life and IBIS :( and they get same sensor ;;_;;
      Although, My gear right now is the collection of xt20, kit 16-50 f3.5 5.6, xf27 f2.8 and some cheap vintage lens. And I spend quite much time for running around to borrow lens for job :'>> quite crazy. I plant getting XF35f1.4 after corona disaster.

      Chao em! :)
      Then I think it comes down to how much you want to spend and if you really need ibis. If you’re doing walking and talking shots then it helps. If you’re doing slow pans and movement you can fix it in post editing.
      The 35mm 1.4 is one of my fav lenses for portrait and product detail work.

      I do not have time to try more with 35f1.4 in studio, do you think I can take it well in beauty shots :'> I just have time to try it outside.
      And you too, stay safe at now, everything is nearly lockdown in Saigon. So terrible :(

      Yuki Hana I think the 35 1.4 is a good length so you can use it for portraits and details shots.

      If budget isn’t a concern, the xt4 would give you more use for video work too. And you should do more video! If you offered wedding video with your shoots you could up your pricing. That’s what I’m trying. Only got into it no wedding stuff last year. Not our main thing, but decent money.

    hi! please enlighten me on this. i've been considering the xt4 and xh1 as my photography gear but at the same time im also leaning to the nikon d780. i do wedding photo and video as my sideline to my job. i currently own a D90 and a D7000. the limiting factor i have with it is stabalization, ISO and other controls. could you share some thoughts for me. thanks!

    • @AtomicPixel
      @AtomicPixel  4 роки тому +1

      Hey buddy! I came from the D7000 as well. My first love. haha
      So, brand aside, I find moving to mirrorless was a big advantage for me as I moved away from DSLRs. A smaller form factor, better video and being able to see the adjustments your making on-screen was a big improvement.
      Now, going to Fuji, I love the colours and the style/controls just make it fun for me.
      Wedding is on the side for us, too. And in your case I think your biggest decision is:
      1. Do you want to move to mirrorless or stay with DSLR?
      2. If you go Fuji, then likely you'll have to get 2 bodies, since a wedding usually requires 2 cameras and best to have the same brand so the colour science is the same. Makes it easier for you in the editing room.
      So let me ask you this, what makes you want to move to Fuji or mirrorless?
      -Tuan

      ted tedsen lucky guy! The gfx is sexyyyyy.
      I used to have to the xt20 and that size is really nice for traveling. The only thing to consider with is it can feel a little small or cramped. But if you want small then it’ll the xt30 is perfect. The xt4 would double up as intermediate to pro work if you need it to.
      Do you have any photos/vids of the gfx or works you’ve done? Would love to see!
