I have been eating orange and lemon slices with the peel since I was about seven. I will be 50 in 3 weeks. I still have all my adult teeth and have never experienced a cavity!
I like the improved length of your recent videos. You pack a lot of clinical data into useful and immediate applications. Here's what we know. Here's what we can do today. Also appreciate that you have slowed down the fast reading speed of past videos. Your presentation seems to be more relaxed and conversational --- which helps me to process, absorb and then consider how I might put into effect your expertise. Appreciate your brilliant work and your commitment to your passion.
LOVE LOVE LOVE citrus!!!...my favorite is actually sweet lime and when they are in season I make sweet lime juice every day...and I am also crazy about White grapefruits and the other types that are not so sweet but more bitter...and when sumo mandarins are in season I eat them every day... and who doesn't love the big fat oranges!....yummy
How does frozen orange juice stack up against fresh? Also, when referring to peels are are talking about the thin top layer of skin, or including the whole pulp above the citrus segments?
I hope someone reads the comments from DR Greger's team. With regard to skin cancer and citrus consumption, just about everyone I know in Florida gets some degree of skin cancer as they age and they also drink a lot of orange juice and eat more oranges because that's where they oranges are grown. My question is whether the study or studies was/were controlled for sun exposure.
Hi, Mateusz Sobczak! If you are going to consume the peels, organic oranges are probably best. If that is not an option, washing with salt water and rinsing with fresh water before eating them should remove much of the pesticide residues. More on that here: nutritionfacts.org/video/how-to-make-your-own-fruit-and-vegetable-wash/ I hope that helps! -Christine Kestner, MS, CNS, LDN, NutritionFacts.org Health Support Volunteer
Hi NORMLfan13, I'm Dush a volunteer at NutritionFacts. I did a search on Pubmed for you and found that compared exactly your question: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.... The study compared various brands of OJ with Pulp and without and concluded " In conclusion, the amount of pulp included in these shop-bought orange juices had little impact on flavanone metabolism in models of the GI tract. The effects of greater amounts of orange pulp remain to be determined. The study noted that the additional fibre content of the pulp was neglieble. However, wtih OJ the whole fruit is better or blending whole in a smoothie reciepe. I can personally recommend strawberry, banana and OJ!

If, in keeping with chronobiology, we eat more in the fall, can we circumvent this inclination by either living bi-hemispherically (year round spring and summer) or living on the equator? And could this be why blue zones live longer (lower average caloric consumption over time)?
I've always been concerned that smoothies don't get the pre-digestion required for proper digestion because the food in them isn't masticated with the important bacteria and enzymes only found in the mouth and critical to initiating the digestive process. Also, chewing initiates enzyme production in the intestines and other organs further critical to digestion. "In the oral cavity, salivary glands secrete an array of enzymes and substances that aid in digestion and also disinfection. They include the following: lingual lipase: Lipid digestion initiates in the mouth. Lingual lipase starts the digestion of the lipids/fats." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_enzyme
Menopausal changes(many, many)bring to surface another bad development in female body : vericose veins, inflamation of which could be somewhat contained by citrus fruits, say like the Indian gooseberry(Amla)?
i dont even know how to start correcting people in the comments, everyone want to processed food, drying, pulverising, blending and whatnot. if its edible eat it, simple as that. do not get any healthier than that.
Another way to eat citrus peels is to dehydrate them, pulverize them and (at least with lemons) add the powder to any food. Does not work with grapefruit peels. Too bitter. It probably works with with oranges, but I can't eat them. They hurt my stomach.

And I love to use whole orange slices with the peel as a kind of " dressing" for my greens - nice to know that it is extra healthy 🍀💚🐸
I make marmalade out of thinly sliced oranges. Love it . Use very little sugar. Slice with mandoline and then cook a bit.
I am so happy to learn from you. You have changed my life. Thank you.
I’ve started adding whole satsumas, peel & all, to my smoothies after listening to this.
