so much disdain between Maynard & Paul.. What a vibe. Love hearing the tunes from Ænima in their infancy... and also hearing the difference in bass approaches to the songs between Paul & Justin. I truly believe Tool would have gone on to make amazing music with Paul, but just think how pivotal Justin's riffs have been on Third Eye, all of Lateralus and 10 000 days. His use of effects is unrivaled. You can't always be sure who's playing bass and who's playing the guitar on Tool's later albums. The interchange between Adam & Justin is unbelievable! ...and well, Danny is Danny lol.
What do you mean disdain between Maynard & Paul ?
yeah, very interesting on Pushit (and Stinksist tbf) to see hOw well formed it was, knowing how much more they would craft the whole of the second half of the song.
eye saw them perform a great version of it recently and it was worth the admission fee alone. llt.
Greatest live show truthfully better than the circus disny ice plus quality enlightenment.just watch it unfold the balances in you.
I just seen Tool in New Orleans the other nite. It was Otherworldy. Primus played for about an hour then Tool opened with "No Quarter" ... The highlight of the show for me was Opiate and Sweat. Maynard was wearing a day of the dead mask with a top hat with a red rose on it and a black Dress and drinking a bottle of his caduceus wine.
Jealous...
So I've been a Tool for a while, and this show is a grower, it just got better with time. To see them laid back and trying new things like this, it's a gem. And Maynard's banter is almost as good as the August 98 shows when he did the televangelist bits, that has me rolling every time. Big thanks to you and the taper!
This is my fav set. I keep coming back to it. I've probably seen it 30 times..
God Dammit. Show Adam.
Paul was a good dude and a great bass player. Nothing against Justin at all, he's incredible. Just actually had a chance to meet Paul back in 94 as well as the rest of the band got to go on their tour bus and bring them water. As a 16 year old kid I think I may have shat myself. Whatever vibe people are picking up on haven't seen a lot of tool. They play, they do their own thing, not a lot of screwing around with each other, not even in a Rush good natured sort of way. They each own their part of the performance. Which is truly greater than the sum of it's parts.
Well said Josh! And WOW, I thought I was lucky when I met Paul just over four years ago when he was on tour with his new band (Lesser Key, which I encourage any TOOL fan to go check out), and I have to agree the man is so damn delightful! I also had an incredibly nervous experience when I mustered the gumption to approach him and say Hi after their set. No joke, I felt like I was asking someone out for the very first time!!! Hahaha. Anyways, Paul seemed amused at the fact that I knew of his old side project, Lusk, and invited me out to see his new band play another show the following night. I showed up, he guested me in for free, bought me a beer, and I got to meet the rest of his band. Such an incredible night that was, easily my favorite "local" show I've ever attended. Still not as cool as your story, getting to meet the whole band and be on their tour bus (seriously, I'm jealous) but I know exactly what you mean about Paul and his talent... There's just something different and unique about him when I compare him to any other bassist or musician for that matter (including Justin Chancellor).
Maynard definitely sang parts of Pushit in a lower register than where it ended up being on the album. So cool to see the origins of some the songs from my favorite Tool album out of all the amazing albums they’ve released. Ænima still holds that special place in my heart. Always will.
Wow. A pre-album version of Stinkfist. Very interesting. The lyrics are mixed around. Sounds as if the 2nd verse on the original is the 1st verse on this live version? This is some really good stuff!

classic. another jewel
God I miss the Maynard in front days.... I only got to see one of those shows live before he decided to hide back by Danny....
hide? you know he had hip replaced from effects of stomping rock? not to mention there's 4 members a front man period is pop rock see GreenDay
+Curt Nix your comment reveals your youth and ignorance... I was actually old rlenough to drive to the record store and buy Opiate when it was released... I have seen TOOL 17 times and I know the difference between seeing him up front and hiding in the back... he's an entertaining fucker when he costumes up, like he did at the last two shows I saw on Halloween and in January.... much better than some dark brooding silhouette. ... of course that is just my opinion ... feel free to keep on hating youngster
+Curt Nix band* not hand, can do.fuckin autospell crap
+Curt Nix He still does jiu jitsu so it aint about a bad hip.
Terry Davis I got your Youngster hangin, im 39 and have listened to them since 1997 seen them 4 times and last one in 2012 the best sounding. upfront maynard or not.and yes it has to do with hip replacement surgery. their music is unmatched regardless of your erroneous opinions. imo.now your blocked

"You are now watching a copy of this show on UA-cam."
Yeah, no shit. Stop hogging the screen with this garbage.
I was in that pit. Awesome show.
It's clearly evident that Paul's vision of the band didn't match the others'.He always seemed to have a more rockstar/energetic onstage presence.
@264zn no, you are totally right about the bad vibe...you can see it in almost every video they are in together, and also the audio recordings as well. In this one especially!

Classic Maynard :D
I'm pretty sure that's paul
I always thought that was Maynard, but watch it, he's not talking
Maynard was on the megaphone right after.
That’s paul
Maynard is like wtf
wow no quarter was stupid good!
Stinkfist prototype?
God damn, Maynard must have stolen all of adams energy this show.
Stinkfist in 94? oh shit
Pushit too
@@SystemOfATool yeah that
@@snappdre pushit was always my favorite tool song
System of a Tool I’m a jimmy fan, but it’s up there, we’re kindred spirits
@@snappdre i've always felt like jimmy is a prequel to pushit. I think jimmy is about his young self and pushit is about dealing with the bad memories of his young self
So I wonder if he really ate some acid before this show
IKR?

Kristopher Clemson they were at the Santa Cruz civic.

Alot like TAP...except with comedic relief...my funny bone is pleased...just kidding...not really...this show was aces, the crowd was pleased and sweated hard for the boys in the band...good times...video is exceptional ...makes my ocular receptors feel good...(shhhh, don't tell anyone...Paul is the better sounding and one true Tool Bass Player...we all know it, I'm just not afraid to say it)...
Youse is wrong
It's easy to see why Paul was "let go". He has a very annoying stage persona.
As opposed to Adam 'I'll stand in one spot' Jones? I didn't realize that guys getting into the music on stage was annoying. Plus, Tool has sucked since Paul left. Yeah, I said it. Their music just doesn't have the same energy as it did on Opiate and Undertow. Aenima is awesome too, but I still feel that has a lot to do with Paul co-writing half the songs on it as well. I found Lateralus and 10,000 Days boring. I'm ready to catch the flack.
I agree with most of what you said....tool obviously hasn't "sucked" since Paul left the band, in fact their music is still better than just about everything out there today and the band hasn't put out anything new in 11 years so that's saying something, but what has happened is that the band went into an almost everyman for themselves mode. They have no stage presence and it almost seems like they don't even enjoy playing together anymore. It's just like any other band that goes from playing in tiny little joints like the JC Dobbs in Philly to a packed arena full of 16,000 fans with a light and sound production that for one show costs about what most of us make in a year. They're content with going on the road year after year with no new material mailing it in every night and why wouldn't they, tool fans in every city in every country in the world are still gonna buy up tickets like it's their swan song performance. But yea I definitely like Paul's sound a little better than Justin's.
If I ever met either of you two IRL then we can totally be friends. BTW speaking of IRL, I met Paul in 2014 when he was on tour with his new band Lesser Key. Real stand up guy, he even told me himself that not only did he have a stake in co-writing songs on Ænima
purely with just bass, but also contributed to some guitar riffs as well. This sounds believable to me, primarily because Paul was always a guitarist before a bassist right up until he joined Tool, and the only reason he played bass in that band to begin with was because Adam was already their guitarist by the time he joined the band.
Also, I will say that I think Mag Pie was mostly speaking to Paul's character/dialogue between songs, not his actual stage performance per se (and if I'm wrong on that assertion and you were criticizing his stage presence Mag Pie, then I have to 100% agree with what Joseph said on your take about Paul).
In the 93-94 era Paul was awesome on stage while playing bass..
Omg is their instruments out of tune ugg
No?
