It's things like that, that make me thankful for serving. It's so we can show our feelings and expressions through the power of free speech and the beauty of song.
How nice to see and hear Americans with this wonderful song. We brits know that you Americans wear your hearts so that everyone can see them. Good luck to you all. Peter Feiler
This reminds me of Congress making a statement to the country on the night of 9/11, on the Capitol steps. As they began to disperse, someone started singing this; everyone regrouped and joined in. Very moving. The clip is on UA-cam.
How excellent they sang it, how sad those who wouldn't stand up and those who wouldn't sing it. Praise God for those who participated and showed no hesitation.
O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! O beautiful for pilgrim feet Whose stern impassioned stress A thoroughfare of freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law! O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife. Who more than self their country loved And mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every gain divine! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea! O beautiful for halcyon skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the enameled plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till souls wax fair as earth and air And music-hearted sea! O beautiful for pilgrims feet, Whose stem impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till paths be wrought through wilds of thought By pilgrim foot and knee! O beautiful for glory-tale Of liberating strife When once and twice, for man's avail Men lavished precious life! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till selfish gain no longer stain The banner of the free! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till nobler men keep once again Thy whiter jubilee!
This is pretty neat. Regardless of their political opinions, both republicans and most Democrats stood up and started singing as well. For a small moment in history, there was some sense of unity in Capitol Hill regardless of what side of the political spectrum they stood.
I am not an American , since 1950 when I was a 5 years old kid ,I learned the USA ,they donated a lot of foods to our school , till now we really appreciated . Till now ! Every time I hear this great beautiful song it trembling my soul , I always wish and hope America the Beautiful , just like this song’s lyrics , I love this song , God Bless America !
What happened to the third verse -- you know, the one about ..."heroes prov'd"? To me, this is the most meaningful stanza and most faithfully depicts the totality of America.
There are several more verses, and choruses, which are rarely sung - ?? For pilgrim's feet/til all success be nobleness and every gain divine, etc. A Marine sang the entire song at a post-9/11 event and had me sobbing.
in reply to deltafour1212 who dares a "lib" to sing this song. I am very close to my 81st birthday. I sing this beautiful, powerful, hopeful and inclusive hymn at every public opportunity. I hope that in a few weeks I will be invited to sing it in front of the Lincoln Statue in Jersey City, at the annual celebration of his birthday, sponsored by the oldest, continuously observing organization dedicated to his memory. I also have had the privilege of singing it at the annual George Washington Society gathering on his birthday. The crowd at both events is a healthy mix people of all races and religions, whose political affiliations are all across the spectrum. I am a Korean War veteran and proud to be a Progressive Liberal.
Rumor has it, this was written sometime during the 1890's. Just think how far we've drifted from being ONE. Our Country has grown to an unrecognizable position.
A lot of folks think that taxing citizens to pay artists salaries is wrong. I think they are right! Let the market place decide what is worthy art. Art supported by the government must tend to kiss up to the government. So in times of liberalism we get liberal art subsidies and in times of conservatism we get: liberal art subsides ! Why ? Because conservatives don't write bills for the support of art by taxation. They get their art the old fashioned way, from the market place.
America the Beautiful! May she always ( ALWAYS ) stand for FREEDOM and SECURITY! If you don't like what she stand for, don't change her just get the F______ OUT! GOD BLESS THE USA!
The Arts are very important not only in society but in our schools. We need to support the arts in our schools. It has been shown that students that are involved in music does better in science and math.
+Diana Bodner I think at first they were trying to be respectful to those singing and allow them to have the spotlight, then when one of the singers let the people know it is ok for them to sing too they began to sing as well. That is my though at least. :)
Though it would have been nice if everyone had stood, it isn't the national anthem so it isn't mandatory to stand. And clearly a lot of people did stand.
What a load of crap, deltafour. I'm one of those libs you are referring to, and I take pride in this country. Just remember, before you go off on such lame accusation again, it wasn't the libs who tried to overthrow our government. It wasn't a lib president who stoked the fires of that attempted overthrow.
@@jamesgordon2817 No, you're right! Libs don't want to overthrow the government They love big government. Libs think the government can solve all their problems. It's the wacko left that want to destroy America.
@@jamesgordon2817 I know Obama stoked the fires of a made up manufactured racism thing and put a hit out on cop's and let BLM and ANTIFA loot, riot, burn, destroy, business and cities but what you mean by overthrowing the government?
@deltafour1212 Very simple. Remember 1-6-21 and the violence that took place at the nation's capitol? You do remember that, right. That was an attempt to overturn the results of a fair election, hence an attempt to overthrow the government. Regarding your other comments, did you obtain them from Fox News, Qanon, or some other rock solid source.
By the way, the BLM protests took place in 2020 after the death of George Floyd. Donald Trump was president then, not Barack Obama. So you will know, hundreds of people were arrested for their roles in the destruction of property, etc. Look it up.
I think congress needs to sing this and the recite the pledge every time they go into session!
What ever happened to this America? Fantastic stuff, KUDOS to all involved, well done!
Love it!!!! God shed His grace on thee!!!!
It's things like that, that make me thankful for serving. It's so we can show our feelings and expressions through the power of free speech and the beauty of song.
Right on, Brother! I served too. This makes my heart sing!
Thank you for serving for this country. May God bless you!

Peter Feiler I see your comment was a year ago, but thank you, that was so nice to hear! ( :

just watched it right now
Beautiful we need more of that on Congress today.
👍

Fantastic, and so appropriate for the event!
Outstanding, I shared this with my Connection on LI. Thank you endlessly for uploading 👍🇺🇸👏
This is so great! I was there and this video totally captures the moment. Thrilling! I love the danish guy!

Not American but living there. Goosebumps and proud to live here.
America is like one big family, we can say what's wrong with our family, but don't let anyone else say what's wrong : )
Made me cry.
JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
This would be a much better national anthem! Beautiful.
Sad to see all those who feared to stand and sing such a patriotic song.
My the US Constitution and Freedom here in this land and in the world be eternal.
someone should do a flash mob at a presidential debate, and sing something about uniting and being as one.
Thank God and our men and women in uniform that we made it through weekend. God bless America and the people of Paris !

I know there are more. That's what my question was about...
This song always make me teary eyed!
Yeah!!!!! AMEN!
Actually the first one was after 9/11 when the congress and house sung god bless America

I got chills.
It is amazing to see a non-WASP leading the choir. As an Italian, let me envy you, Americans.

Way to make a point. Love it. C=

Do your kids know the words? Have they ever been taught the whole song?

So sorry, they sang God Bless America!
I'm hearing ppl laughing in the background, for what? ..... o well, great American ppl lol
Why....did it take so long for people to stand and sing for their country???
+Diana Bodner I think at first they were trying to be respectful to those singing and allow them to have the spotlight, then when one of the singers let the people know it is ok for them to sing too they began to sing as well. That is my though at least. :)
Most Americans don't know the words either.
I commend all who reached across their isle and loved their fellow countrymen ! Now, fire all who physically could stand but didn't!!
They didn't know the words.
did you notice no politicians stood up,,,, thats a hint people,,lol
Though it would have been nice if everyone had stood, it isn't the national anthem so it isn't mandatory to stand. And clearly a lot of people did stand.
