Truly awesome build. I'd have loved this 30-40 years ago but it's too rigid, to do distance riding, for this old man now. I used to go touring on an acoustic setup not unlike this. With the 02 and a 25 AH battery I could see riding from NYC to LA & having a blast doing it.

hey Johnny, great video. you could probably feed the algorithm by making shorts. you wouldn't even need to film more just cut the funny parts of these vids into shorts.

I prefer a bafang to regular chain ring adapter. You can mount the chainring to either side of the adapter to center the chain line and probably even use washers if someone really wants to really fine tune it. Leki all have different offsets and you have to hope your preferred tooth count chainring is the correct offset.

Small zip tie can keep cable off motor case

I have the same size battery and motor and it usually has 40-70% battery after a 24mile commute. Only complaint is I'm seeing more voltage sag after a year, and now have to wait an hour for it to give an accurate reading

I thought a bbs02 was 48v max voltage? I have bbs02b 750 watts and it states that it is 48vlt max.

52v batteries almost always are read as a 48v by the controller

I'm using 56 volts on my BBS02 with no problems. Error code 07 will appear once Bafang controller detects 61.5 volts and it will shut down the system. You can use a fully-charged 60 volt battery in parallel with a 48v or 56v battery to avoid this error code. Using a fully charged 60v battery will put you over the threshold at approx 62v.

It’s nice to see road bike conversions with the often-neglected-by-many _efficiency_ mentioned!
I have a Trek 1.2 I’d like to convert using a BBS02 for all the reasons you gave. I like to go fast, but my comfortably maintained cadence is only about 80, so I’d like to retain something close to my current (edit:) 50 big ring.
Do I need to restrict the maximum current to maintain long life of the motor/internal gears, or has this been overblown online?

If you are a confident cyclist and understand the basics of not over stressing the motor, you should be fine. If it’s too high of a gear for your legs, it’s too high for the motor too.

At what cadence does the bbshd make the most efficient power? I converted a bikes direct hybrid/ gravel bike with a 34-11 cassette and 44T chainring. Would I be better off with a 42T?

The problem is that 100% of my over powered builds are indeed terrorizing pedestrians on MUP's and causing us to be banned everywhere. Will never build one ever again. Good people, who know better, abuse these things.
