The Bar Mitzvah is actually real it was not fake. I give the kid probably being the coolest kid in the world for wanting them and convincing his parents to play them. If I remember correctly the bar mitzvah album is what really generated so much press for them and turned them mainstream for even though they are obviously not mainstream.
All jokes aside, the mix and the performance on this album are incredible. It is so insanely hard to put out a great sounding live album where the music sounds as present and perfectly mixed as it does coming from a studio. In this album's case, the mix is almost better than most studio albums. This whole album is full of gems because of the mix - Spike screaming off mic at parts, both guitars playing beautifully at the same time, one rhythm, one solo. The pick slides are incredible, you hear every single one of them. The drums sounds incredible. Spike's voice is almost flawless the entire album. And the music just straight up fucking RIPS the entire album. One of the best produced live albums I've ever heard. Rebelution's Live at Red Rocks runs a very close second.
Listening to this album is hella weird. I feel like it was oddly recorded and had me thinking they made everything up for a while. And the Billy Joel Track I think is the best in terms of production. 11/10 album 🤘🏾🤘🏾👍🏾🙏🏽❤️🏁🏁🏁
It sounds like any live punk album, minus the large crowd noise in the background. It allows to mix a little differently, but not much? It’s just a vastly different setting and that’s all
This puts a big smile on my face. I love celebrations of Jewish culture. I wish I could have a bar mitzvah so I could ask Me First to play. You guys are awesome. I love your version of Hava Nagila.
I was young and innocent! I didnt know why it was so special lol.... and his (jonny's dad) was like some recording studio dude or something and got them to play
I'm 32, i've a beautiful wife and little daughter. I'm thinking 'bout marriage, but only with ME FIRST .... :) I would die for this ! GOD I LOVE U GUYS
The ones that look really mad during "O Sole Mio"--they're the Italian side of the family! Right after this, on the CD, they play "Havah Nagilah" again, only to Jose Feliciano's Xmas tune "Feliz Navidad". THAT'S when the bottles and dishes started flying, LOL! Seriously, I really like MFATGG and the way they play this old stuff--it rocks, and it's a parody too. Not TOO respectful, but not negative, either. Best cover band ever? Greetings from northwest Pennsylvania, USA. :)
i've been a fan of me first for bouts a decade now. gotta say - when this album came out it was bittersweet. There were some songs on it i really loved, but there were other points that sounded like they had been rehearsed close to never. this vid was fun though
After watching this a billion times, I was disappointed noticing that at 3:38 Fat Mike is not doing the Backing Vocals. I always thought that this was the real audio recording of that day.. This let me down =(
Very cool. I kinda figured a lot of the kids who didn't care much for the performance at the time would end up being fans later on, and wishing they'd savored the moment more. At least the whole thing was recorded.
It's actually plexiglass. Commonly used to isolate loud drums in a live setting. Especially effective for keeping cymbals from bleeding into the vocal mikes.
Yes : Composition : * Singer : Spike Slawson (bass of Swingin' Utters) * Guitar : Joey Cape (singer of Lagwagon) * Guitar : Chris Shiflett (guitar of Foo Fighters, ex-No Use For A Name) * Basse : Fat Mike (singer and bass of NOFX) * Drums : Dave Raun (drums of Lagwagon)
probably not to interfear with the other microphones. The stage is quite small and the glass wall is there to isolate the sound a bit. That would be my gues...
Take the raddest musicians from a bunch of dope punk bands and have them play ironic songs together in a wholly un-ironic way. Genius. Can Spike sing? Yes. Yes he can.
@Rudeboysaint The son of some guy that works in the music industry (I forget where). He asked for the Gimmie Gimmies to play at his Bar Mitzvah and this is what happened
1 They need to release the whole show
2 I think every me first album should be live from now on.

Nah, they had already been big and established prior to this live record

That has to be the first Bar Mitzvah that had a mosh pit in the history of Judaism
Actually there was a mosh pit when they take down the walls of jericho with the horns

This CD made me laugh like you wouldn't believe.
How the hell wasn't I aware there was actual footage of this?!? WHERE'S THE REST?
If you buy the CD it is enhanced and you can watch the entire show when you put the CD into your computer
This is awesome!!
This puts a big smile on my face. I love celebrations of Jewish culture. I wish I could have a bar mitzvah so I could ask Me First to play. You guys are awesome. I love your version of Hava Nagila.
What kind of culture is that? White people occupying the middle east based on a fiction book written by lunatics?
What a cool family party, I wish be invited to one of this and drink a good and expensive red wine.
A Misfits t shirt during a barmitzva party
XD
I was young and innocent! I didnt know why it was so special lol.... and his (jonny's dad) was like some recording studio dude or something and got them to play

I love this band. I can't wait for them to get around the Chicago area so I can see them live.
That kid better be laughing his ass off or mortified that he invited a punk band to his bar mitzvah.
In fact, they don't really ruin Jonny's Bar Mitszah, cause the assistance is dancing and laughing and looking like having a good time ! As me !

I wish they would ruin my Bar Mitzvah! Except I'm not Jewish. And I'm 30.
Ragazzi vi amo dal profondo del cuore! Sono stata ieri al vostro concerto a Pinarella di Cervia ed è stato il più bello della mia vita!

The best religious ceremony you can imagine! I wonder if these guys could play at my funeral.

I wonder what spinning-kicky-leg kid is up to now haha
I love this :)
Man I'd convert to have them play mine. Of course I'm 47.
Hava nagila brought down the house. Fat mike seemed surprised and impressed that he actually knew the lyrics

best... cover band... EVER!!!

When it comes to "live" recordings, nowadays they usually keep only the drum tracks and re-record everything else
+Jose Theza that's how blink-182's 'live record' was destroyed
Bet they cut that from the mix in the end (sounded like garbage anyways). I'm sure the rest is from the live performance.
I'm just in awe that someone hired the Gimmes for a Bar Mitzvah... and they PLAYED IT!!!
fucking genius! :-)
There's a girl with a misfits shirt at 6:27
nice The Offspring part
Very cool. I kinda figured a lot of the kids who didn't care much for the performance at the time would end up being fans later on, and wishing they'd savored the moment more. At least the whole thing was recorded.
Happy New Year 2016!

4:44 - Jewish crowd surfing FTW!
ROFL at the camera panning over all the ear plugs.
Nothing like some public domain punk 😎
