I firmly believe Micro Air is run by wizards. I bought 2 of their Soft Starts for my 4 ton and my 3 ton units so that when I'm on my 24kw generator I don't get any lights dimming or bogging down. Now both units can spin up almost at the same time, and i don't even notice anything inside the house. The 4 ton went from 110 RLA to 34.8 and the 3 ton went from 59 to 24.1. Absolutely amazing, and they are easy to install and well built. Not cheap though, but worth the cost for what they do.
I love my micro air. 5 yrs with it and it’s saving me $$$ and extending the lifetime of my 3.5 ton. I can run my whole house with my Duromax 9000ix minus water heater and stove along with the a/c combine but if I need to use the others I can cancel the a/c for the meantime. Nice video.
I have the same generator and same soft start. It's amazing to be able to run pretty much whole house. Once I have the A/C Going, the generator even allows the well to kick on. Clean power is awesome, no issues. I only wish the gas tank was a bit bigger, but I'm super happy with the setup.
Noticed that you didn’t break in your generator as per mfg instructions. At the 15 min mark, the generator showed total run time of less than 20 min. Good video on soft start for your ac. 22:58
Good video. As you mentioned in your video make sure you get an INVERTER generator if you are going to power up any electronic equipment. This particular Champion generator though it is an inverter generator it is very loud (at least appears to be on this video) because it is “open frame” style. There are a lot quieter inverter generators that are enclosed that will do the same thing but are usually a bit more expensive. May be a better option if you live in an urban environment. In a SHTF scenario you may not want to draw unwanted/unnecessary attention to your home as being the only one in your neighborhood with power.
Thanks for your info on the reason for an Inverter. I just had a short outage and ran a stereo without protection, but I won't do that again. I have a line conditioning box to clean up the signal, so I can stay with my cheaper generator for now. Yes, that easy start is a great thing.
Solar panels are a great option for a long term power-out scenario. One of the things people don't talk about much though is that they have a good likelihood of dying during an extreme weather event.
@@pdlngsqrs9547 praying for y’all… I’ve been there… Hurricane Wilma took my roof off and I stayed at the house to save what I could from looters and was without utilities for 24 days… I know it’s just a matter of time til it happens again but I’m prepared. ❤️

@@Lsd5688 if you can’t afford a whole home generator there is another option. You can designate one room with a small window unit and run a inexpensive generator on just one room so at least you can be comfortable at night and use a microwave oven and run power tools if you need. Before I did the whole home set up that is what I did. I’ve been thru five hurricanes that cause power outages anywhere from 11 days to the worst was 24 days… I bought a cheap harbor freight water pump that runs on 110 volts and used it to take military showers outdoors behind the house… are you okay now?
@@redlew012 I did experience a decrease in Running Amps by about 10% but the main reason I installed the EZ Start was to decrease Starting Amps. The manufacturer doesn’t claim it will decrease Running Amps so I never tracked it on my electric bill but I’d say I’m saving as my Running Amps are lower although nominally. With that being said, I am certain there is an energy savings as the EZ Start reduces Hard Starts so spikes in amperage are nonexistent which definitely makes a difference in energy efficiency. Overall I’d say the cost of the EZ Start would be justified even if I didn’t need it for running a whole home generator.
I've got a 4 ton AC and want to run the fridge, lights, TV. With the Micro-Air and running on Natural Gass, what wattage Generator would you recommend.
@@markwilliford5319 if there is a way for you to do an amp draw reading for a load calculation it would be best. explain how the micro soft start is going to make your air conditioner run at a lower amperage after the start up. That doesn’t make any sense to me. Totally understand the reduction and start up, but not the running part. I don’t buy it but explain.
@@condor5635 excellent question. Although the manufacturer does not claim this on their website, I did find it during my installation. I don’t know what caused it, and I have no idea what they have inside this little unit other than something that could possibly be affecting capacitance and altering the mF rating of the run capacitor. Or it may have simply have been that I had a loose connection on my run capacitor when I tested it prior to installing the micro start. It’s unexplainable. However, I’m still happy about running at a lower amp. If you can figure it out, please let me know.
