  • How to run a home air conditioning system on a $1100 generator. You’ll need to check out the charts for the size air conditioning system you have at micro-air.com, buy the appropriate model, install it and you’ll be amazed at how you can then run your whole home with a much cheaper generator than you think. During long outages after a hurricane you’ll be happy you followed my advice instead of spending $10k on a system that probably won’t work when the big wind comes.

    Great info on the ac data plate and sine wave. The usage of a portable such as this is hugely dependent upon the patience of the user, the total electrical load of the home, and understanding that one is only going to get a limited number of amps from a quick connect
    You have the knowledge to deal with this. And I really like the video. For the majority of folks watching this….take the trouble to read the electrical code and understand how volt amps and watts and don’t ever forget about resistances!
    Best portable gen running video I’ve ever seen actually

      @@moonymannnn my only comment was included in my original comments. Lots of folks don’t have the expertise or the patience to do this appropriately. For those with limited knowledge, this can be a trap. Our business is standby generators and emergency generators (for anyone reading read NFPA110 to tell the difference). So, there’s a large market your video won’t apply to.
      But I will stand by my comment your discussion of sine wave, RLA, LRA, FLA….spot on.
      Also, anyone watching needs to understand load is not always easy to determine and just because you read something or watched something online doesn’t mean it will work for you. If In doubt, consult a professional,
      And for the love of God NEVER BUY GENERAC!
      Happy thanksgiving brother !

    I have the same generator and same soft start. It's amazing to be able to run pretty much whole house. Once I have the A/C Going, the generator even allows the well to kick on. Clean power is awesome, no issues. I only wish the gas tank was a bit bigger, but I'm super happy with the setup.

    I firmly believe Micro Air is run by wizards. I bought 2 of their Soft Starts for my 4 ton and my 3 ton units so that when I'm on my 24kw generator I don't get any lights dimming or bogging down. Now both units can spin up almost at the same time, and i don't even notice anything inside the house. The 4 ton went from 110 RLA to 34.8 and the 3 ton went from 59 to 24.1. Absolutely amazing, and they are easy to install and well built. Not cheap though, but worth the cost for what they do.

    I love my micro air. 5 yrs with it and it’s saving me $$$ and extending the lifetime of my 3.5 ton. I can run my whole house with my Duromax 9000ix minus water heater and stove along with the a/c combine but if I need to use the others I can cancel the a/c for the meantime. Nice video.

    Solar panels are a great option for a long term power-out scenario. One of the things people don't talk about much though is that they have a good likelihood of dying during an extreme weather event.

    Good video. As you mentioned in your video make sure you get an INVERTER generator if you are going to power up any electronic equipment. This particular Champion generator though it is an inverter generator it is very loud (at least appears to be on this video) because it is “open frame” style. There are a lot quieter inverter generators that are enclosed that will do the same thing but are usually a bit more expensive. May be a better option if you live in an urban environment. In a SHTF scenario you may not want to draw unwanted/unnecessary attention to your home as being the only one in your neighborhood with power.

    explain how the micro soft start is going to make your air conditioner run at a lower amperage after the start up. That doesn’t make any sense to me. Totally understand the reduction and start up, but not the running part. I don’t buy it but explain.

    • @moonymannnn
      @moonymannnn  20 днів тому

      @@condor5635 excellent question. Although the manufacturer does not claim this on their website, I did find it during my installation. I don’t know what caused it, and I have no idea what they have inside this little unit other than something that could possibly be affecting capacitance and altering the mF rating of the run capacitor. Or it may have simply have been that I had a loose connection on my run capacitor when I tested it prior to installing the micro start. It’s unexplainable. However, I’m still happy about running at a lower amp. If you can figure it out, please let me know.

    I've got a 4 ton AC and want to run the fridge, lights, TV. With the Micro-Air and running on Natural Gass, what wattage Generator would you recommend.

    • @moonymannnn
      @moonymannnn  29 днів тому +1

      @@markwilliford5319 if there is a way for you to do an amp draw reading for a load calculation it would be best. Otherwise you could go with the ratings on each individual unit on their respective “name plates” and do a general calculation. This may be helpful.
      To calculate watts from amps and volts, you can use the basic electrical power formula:
      Power (P)
      =
      Current (I)
      ×
      Voltage (V)
      Power (P)=Current (I)×Voltage (V)
      Where:
      P
      P is the power in watts (W)
      I
      I is the current in amperes (A)
      V
      V is the voltage in volts (V)

      Fortunately there has been no hurricane… and no prolonged electrical outages so I’ve only run “exercise” and “practice” runs with the generator connected for whole home power. 🙏 But I have been using the generator for a multitude of other tasks… mostly running an arc welding rig. I love this generator… it is reliable and easy to maintain.

      Yes there are some portable Generators that do output high quality power without an inverter but they are few and far between. What you would look for is the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) rating in your manual. I was very lucky when I bought my Champion model 100155 Portable (open frame) generator that was being sold by Costco for a long while (circa 2016) in that is is one of the few non-inverters (which were FAR more expensive back then) that had a THD
