They are not necessary for electronic devices. While putting out a cleaner signal todays portable, open-frame Generators are safe for most electronics.
Is a 250cfm meter and 125 ft of gas line from the meter at the road to the house enough volume for this generator? Mine is hard to start up but once running it’s ok. Only gas appliance is the kitchen stove.
For the XP13000HXT Generator the required fuel pressure at all load ranges are 6.0 - 9.0 inches of water column for Natural Gas. The BTU requirements are 225,000 BTU at full load.

The regulator system in the generator is a "Zero Flow" regulator that will turn off the flow of gas into the engine if it is not running or shuts off unexepectedly. As always, for safety purposes it is suggested to turn off the natural gas supply at the valve installed by the plumber when the generator is not running.
I live in Houston with a detached garage and natural gas. My gas meter is located on the front of the house to the left side and my electric meter located on the rear right outside side of the garage. My breaker box is located on the adjacent side of the electric meter inside the garage. My question is do I have to run a solid gas line underground, towards the rear of my house, where I need to locate my generator or can I use a quick connect and connect only when needed?
Please know Inverter generators are for your home use and power generators are for your power tools use!! Modern Appliances have chips that require inverters to handle fluctuation of loads, otherwise you could burn your appliances chips.
How come 10 or so years ago I went to to the expense of having a transfer switch next to the breaker box put in when all you have to do is have that interlock on the box? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
U do know about the on/off valve at the place matural gas pipe come out the ground. Also there is a main breaker to turn off power feed from power line😊
DuroMax open frame Generators are considered Floating Neutral Generators. This means that they do not have a bond from the Generator frame to the neutral. The ground and neutral are connected together in the stator housing, but since the stator housing is on rubber motor mounts there is no continuity from the Generator to the frame.
When relocating breakers, it is obvious the wires are cut to the place it wire was set to. (What does 9ne do if the breaker wires are to short at the re location of the breaker?)

Not bad but let’s address a few things that may not have been mentioned or overlooked #1 now that a load is being added to the system let’s calculate the total BTUs, including the new generator and determine if the gas meter can handle the total load (this may include a call to the local gas utility to let them know your intentions on adding a load; especially if their computer system is set up for spike load readings). #2 those things on top of the meter are not called unions they are referred to as meter nuts. #3 let’s try to use an adjustable wrench on those service valves, pipe wrenches tend to marr the brass lugs on service valves. # 4 let’s try to incorporate a sediment trap at the generator and hose connection. And #5 it’s recommended that you take gas pressure readings (lock up & working) , this would involve all the gas appliances in the house plus your newly installed generator (running all at once for working pressure).Hope some of this information helps and stay safe out there.
@@DuroMaxPower , developing a customer/installing contractor checklist is one of the best ways to stay consistent and put an end to all the “ I thought” comments. Having worked for a full service gas utility for 35 years and now consult from time to time in my retirement, I can assure you keeping all the affected people on the same page is one of the best things you can do. I’m always amazed when I am gathering information for a claims report or sitting at a deposition table, people make statements like “ we never thought to contact the utility“ or “ we don’t have a set procedure, we only have the installation manual“ . Believe me there’s a reason why Airline pilots have a checklist ✅.
@@robsapplianceplus6071 , you are correct 👍 and should be another thing added to the checklist. With all the different circuit boards on appliances today I believe these types of generators will be become obsolete one day.
Actually, when adding gas load, it’s mandatory to inform the utility. That meter is not rated for that load assuming there’s heating equipment already attached. Additionally, the utility should install the takeoff point (tee), not a contractor, at the time they replace the meter (assuming the gas service is sufficient for the added load). Other comments: never apply pipe dope (sealant) to the first two threads; never wrench a close nipple like he did which damages the threads (and yea, that nipple leaked); never turn off the gas supply before closing all inside valves (and turning off any appliances with power to them such as a furnace or boiler or power vented water heater) or else any operating appliances will suck the gas out of the pipes requiring a lot more purging once the supply is restored. Lastly, the “coupler” to the right of the tee Tony installed, is not actually a coupler, but a pipe end protector, and while Tony didn’t install it, it should not be used as a coupler.

In my area, you cannot use galvanized piping as it flakes on the inside clogging any orifice or gas control valve, you need to use black iron pipe and paint it. When you paint the gas pipe, use some painters tape or old newspaper to pritect the exterior wall from paint, not like this plumber. You also never unthread a nipple like that, you can see he deformed it. It is always reccomended to change the gas meter gaskets once they become loose, you may need 10lt, 20lt or 30lt.
question i have a Druomax hybrid Elite DS 1300 EH DUAL FUEL. If i convert it to natural gas would it power up my Central air and refrigerator, TV and some lights????
7:41 The quick and easy way to measure that. 1) Measure from the half way into the threads to the wall and subtract 3" that will put the ell against the wall. 2) If using a bracket measure the bracket subtract 3" from the wall and subtract the thickness of the bracket. The second valve is redundant, remove it, it will cause a flow issue.
You mentioned its runs in a raceway, after you drilled the hole, what did u insert for the wire to go through, and/or whats the connector on the panel where the wire first went through also, looked like a bushing?
That is correct, they do not allow you to tamper with them. However, nearly all gas companies allow for additions to be added on to the home owners side.
@@jamesdavison6394 In my area, the utility company installs block off plates inside the unions They are the only ones who can initially turn the gas on. Where is the part of the video that shows the required pressure you need at your natural gas connection, testing to verify the pressure is adequate, and then adjusting as needed? That's SUPER important in this application.
Some videos say that style quick connect restricts the gas flow and will cause your generator not to run properly. I'm not sure if that is true or not.
Nice setup but since that generator is bonded to the frame don't you need a ground rod at the generator when connecting to the service panel though your inlet box?

Question: at 11:34, the plumber describes a quick connect safety valve - it prevents gas flow even if the ball valve is open unless the hose is attached. I've searched online for that sort of connector but am coming up short. Can you post names of manufacturers and any model numbers? Thanks!
Hi There!
We recommend checking Century Fuel Products or MB Sturgis such as this one:
amazon.com/M-B-Sturgis-Inc-Generator-Disconnect/dp/B01N6NLDB6?th=1
Please ensure appropriate sizing based off your application.
Thanks!
All the needed quick connect couplings are included with the generator. The female couplings have a poppet that is closed until the mating connection is made.
Regardless of the interlock, you should always turn off your main breaker before ever hooking up your generator, its just best practice!
Agreed, but that is what the interlock reinforces.
I have a Duromax Dual Fuel 12000 W - I'd not used it until Hurricane Beryl hit Houston. It was brand new, and followed the start up instructions. When I plugged it into my house's interlock kit, and I started turning on a few breakers, inside I could smell burning. It fried many of the electronics on the lines I turned on. After the hurricane I had everything tested. It turned out the Generator was only putting out 153 when it should have been 240, causing the surge I'd experienced, frying many of the items in my house. Please test these before hooking it up to your house. Now I have a huge paperweight because I won't cause tens of thousands in damage to my house again.
Hi There
We would like to hear more about this. Can you please reach out to us at vipsupport@duromaxpower.com
fairly straight forward production but fails to mention the size of the gas meter, which will be too small about 80% of the time. You'd be amazed at how much gas a gen set needs.
Thanks for watching! Due to the different applications and regions, customers are always advised to check with their local municipality for the most accurate information regarding their utility service capabilites.

Isn't an inverter generator necessary to protect electronic devices? Almost every product in a home today has a computer board. How is a Westinghouse generator safe without an inverter and does Westinghouse sell a tri fuel inverter generator? Thank look forward to your response.
They are not necessary for electronic devices. While putting out a cleaner signal todays portable, open-frame Generators are safe for most electronics.
very impressed with this video. whether hiring or diy, this helps home owners know exactly what is needed
Thank You!
Wish they would have shown that in the video.
Great video, however to be safe you must hire a professional plumber and electrician. Don't mess with gas is not worth getting hurt. Sometimes in life you got to pay for the safety of you and your family Cheeers
Great point!
This hurt my eyes. You are better off with a soft start kit for the air conditioner and is there an internal regulator for the natural gas in the generator ?Because I don't see one on the gas pipe itself.
DuroMax Tri Fuel Generators have a built-in regulator for Propane and NG. They do not require an external regulator for NG.
Hello, thanks for great video. I see you used gas valve "matco norca 600 wog-150 swp" can you please post links to where I can purchase this but more importantly the gas pipe that connects to this valve and then in turn to the generator Natural Gas inlet.
Appreciate if you can point me to right place to buy so I can avoid buying wrong items.

Here is the link to the valve: www.grainger.com/category/plumbing/plumbing-valves/shut-off-valves/ball-valves/manual-ball-valves?attrs=Max.+Pressure%7C600+psi+WOG&filters=attrs.
The above valve and pipe will need to be sized to your specific meter so please measure and then the pipe will be available at most local hardware/plumbing store.
@@DuroMaxPower Thank you for quick reply - in the video there is specific call out to make sure to buy the hose that matches with valve, can you please list the hose that goes with that - as it was stated only those hose inlet nozzle can open the valve and hence a compatible hose should be brought with the item together
Great video ! Very impressed with the detail of this step by step video. Can you please share a link to all items used in the process of making this video. Thanks
Hi There!
Please check the description for the items shown as well as guideline on other accessories.
I'd prefer a soft start assist on the AC, but I guess a hard start works and is cheaper.
There is always more than one way to get to the finish line whether its hard-start or soft-start, Transfer Switch vs Interlock.
Soft start is the way to go.
what size is the gas hose 3/4?.. I have a 30 amp set up and was going to change to 50 amp set up.. I have a soft start on my ac( awesome) but I have to go to a bigger generator and also a natural gas generator.. I'm writing this while on my 30 amp set up in Htown on day 3 without power from Hurricane Beryl!!
Thanks for the video!!
all the gas pipes are 3/4 for the hose and set up.. 1x3/4x3/4,?
all 3/4" from the utility to the included DuroMax NG hose.
where i can buy the hose and the quick conector ??? i live in houston tx thank you

If the generator turns off from too much load, will it automatically stop the gas flow or will that be an explosion ready to happen?
A licensed Electrician should be able to run an inlet toward the side of the house where the fuel supply would be to save the hassle.
@@DuroMaxPoweryep my electrician told me that today
Please know Inverter generators are for your home use and power generators are for your power tools use!! Modern Appliances have chips that require inverters to handle fluctuation of loads, otherwise you could burn your appliances chips.
That is not the case anymore and we have hundreds of thousands of Generators in service to prove otherwise.
Is it necessary to replace the regulator at the meter by gas company? I heard when u use generator and use natural gas it needs a bigger regulator.
It will dependent on your service line.
Does your gas disconnect need to be in the horizontal position or can it be in the vertical position?
Either direction will work.
How come 10 or so years ago I went to to the expense of having a transfer switch next to the breaker box put in when all you have to do is have that interlock on the box? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Interlock advantages are more cost friendly, easier to utilize and allow for the entire home to be ran.
What natural gas hose is that and where can we buy it
It is available from us at DuroMax by calling 844-DUROMAX.
First thing to turn off by utility company is electricity and second is the gas when a disaster happens LOL
U do know about the on/off valve at the place matural gas pipe come out the ground. Also there is a main breaker to turn off power feed from power line😊
NG managed to stay on for all affected by Beryl. We do agree power is first.
Have a solar powered backup to the gas powered backup 😉
All well prepared plans should account for all 3: solar power, fuel power and battery power.
Does this generator have bonded neutral? Is that something of a concern?
DuroMax open frame Generators are considered Floating Neutral Generators. This means that they do not have a bond from the Generator frame to the neutral. The ground and neutral are connected together in the stator housing, but since the stator housing is on rubber motor mounts there is no continuity from the Generator to the frame.
When relocating breakers, it is obvious the wires are cut to the place it wire was set to. (What does 9ne do if the breaker wires are to short at the re location of the breaker?)
Hi There!
Since every jurisdiction is slightly different you would need to consult with a local electrician to confirm what would be code compliant.
@@DuroMaxPower Thank you for you reply. It does make since and since I am not an electrician I will contact a certified one in my region before playing with such dangerous thing. Thanks again
The only flaw I saw in this video is the Cable from outside is not properly secured to the back of the Panel Box.
The Inlet box on the outside is big enough to allow a Hole in the wall to accommodate a Cable Clamp.
Thanks.

Hi Mike!
You are not the only one - we also caught this on the final walk through. Rest assured it was cleaned up with a clamp.
Lol i noticed right away - i even said out loud "hey man you gonna secure that thing" lololol
I never saw where the plumber used the uchannel bracket. Does anyone know?
Thanks for the catch! It is shown at 26:14 as a brace and support for the gas line.
He used a section of 7/8" unistrut with a 3/4" "strut strap" to secure the pipe with.
Hi Bob!
Thanks for the input and we encourage homeowners to consult with their gas utility company to ensure adequate natural gas delivery.
#6 That is not an inverter generator and therefore not the correct type generator if you plan on using any electronics.

It's a great informative video! I just bought a Duromax XP9500iH. My electrical panel has bonded neutral and ground wires. Should I make any electrical alterations to install a 50-amp outlet?
Please consult with a qualified electrician. We do not advise making any alterations to your generator.
Great video! However, the install of the hard start kit was a bit disorienting because he spent a greal deal of time showing you how to make sure your unit is deenergized, then suddenly cuts to a scene where he shows the AC relay turning on and registering 34 amps. I was like, "Woah! he just unplugged it!"
Thank you for the feedback!
A very good and a very informative video thank you very much for taking the time to produce it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the feedback!
question i have a Druomax hybrid Elite DS 1300 EH DUAL FUEL. If i convert it to natural gas would it power up my Central air and refrigerator, TV and some lights????
We do not recommend converting or altering the fuel system.
Great video. Tri-Fuel generators are the only way to go.
Yes they are!
Why no tri-fuel inverter generator yet?
My gas is on the opposite side of my house. Im guessing over 100ft, if i wanted to use NG, is there a limit on how long the coord connection can be?
It isnt recommended over 100 ft but you would need to calculate voltage drop on the length of the run you are looking at.
Rubber hose to a generator for Natural Gas or Propane is absolutely unacceptable.
What are you basing this off of?
@@DuroMaxPower Since you manufacture generators I shouldn't need to explain this to you.
Thanks for the feedback!
You mentioned its runs in a raceway, after you drilled the hole, what did u insert for the wire to go through, and/or whats the connector on the panel where the wire first went through also, looked like a bushing?
There was a conduit raceway already in the wall.

Most utility company’s don’t allow contractors tamper with their gas meters
That is correct, they do not allow you to tamper with them. However, nearly all gas companies allow for additions to be added on to the home owners side.
@@DuroMaxPower Adding a gas line to the customers side is not the problem. Dropping the gas meter is not allowed in most cases.

my electrical box does not have a main disconnect, will this be an issue? can i get one added in order to install the interlock kit?
Yes, we recommend consulting with a local licensed Electrician.
Which is better for an inverter generator, hard start or soft start?
Hi There!
That will be dependent on your Central A/C. Please check the manufacturer specs to confirm the best unit for your application.
Soft start. With soft start inrush current to compressor is filtered through a potential relay before it starts compressor
Thus controlled. With hard start assist additional torque is added inline straight to compressor capacitor to start compressor. It's forced or a "hard" assist and not "soft" or controlled. I'm and HVAC specialist 20 plus years trade in.
Good video, but i installed a transfer switch next to my breaker panel . I can control which room i want powered. I am on propane , so i want to power certain rooms this will conserve on propane.
Glad you chose the option that works best for you! There is definitely more than one way to achieve power independence. Thanks for choosing DuroMax Power Equipment!
Question I just bought and received my new tri-fuel 13000 generator.
Regarding the soft start, I have a 3.5 ton American Standard ac unit. Is the soft start a universal product, or do i need to purchase a soft start that is made by American Standard?
Of course, I'm going to consult with an ac tech to install it. Just asking so i can purchase it.
Thanks
It will be made by an aftermarket company - usually Microair. It does need to be compatible with your AC unit, but not the same brand as the soft start manufacturer-wise.
@DuroMaxPower I have another question. I just purchased and received my 13000 TRI-Fuel generator from yall. I see that the 15000 tri-fuel is being advertised. My 13000 is still in the box with the band wrapped around the box. If I want to send the new one back and pay the difference for the 15000 tri-fuel is that possible???
Thanks
Where did you find the Start Assist (Hard Start Kit)? The link on Amazon shows a different device with more than 2 cables.
Yes on Amazon, however the model will vary based on the AC unit you are using.
Where is the part of the video that shows the required pressure you need at your natural gas connection, testing to verify the pressure is adequate, and then adjusting as needed? That's SUPER important in this application.
Yes those are all valuable steps you mentioned.
They didn't cover that step.....
Great video
Thanks!
Do you need to cut the neutral wire on the generator in order to go from a bonded neutral to floated neutral condition?
No - we do not recommend altering the neutral on the Generator.
Some videos say that style quick connect restricts the gas flow and will cause your generator not to run properly. I'm not sure if that is true or not.
Ours were all tested with this style and are designed to operate with it. No restriction issues whatsoever.
You purchase the quick connect that will support the required BTU flow for your unit at full load.
I thought galvanized pipe was bad to use.
Code will call for different type by jurisdiction. Always consult a local, licensed plumber to confirm what can be used.
I bought the generator in this video, does it require a pressure regulator on the natural gas supply line?
This Generator includes the pressure regulator.
Natural gas is not volatile enough to start a cold engine.😮
Tens of thousands of these units currently in service say otherwise.
Nice setup but since that generator is bonded to the frame don't you need a ground rod at the generator when connecting to the service panel though your inlet box?
Hard to speak in generality, however most applications for inlet to panel do not require bonding as the panel is bonded.
Why was the start assist used instead of a soft start device?
Same type of device with different name.
The AC service tech did an excellent job explaining - very clear, detailed and organized on his thoughts. The other two guys were agonizing to try follow their sayings. Other than knowing why and how to install a hard start kit, the rest is not comprehended. The electrical section was the worst - I have no idea what he was doing because he did not explain anything!
