niche characters are the ones that benefit the most from these kinds of guides since they don´t have as much material as the rest, great idea and video bro
Some mechanic clarification: -Trick Shot pings in the direction that Duck Hunt is facing relative to the can when they hit the can. This is why Bair reverses it and this can be seen when using U-tilt on the can in various positions and is quite useful for mixing up your opponent. -The same thing applies to the can ping itself and is useful in the ledge stall punish situation that was presented in the video. If Duck hunt faces away the ping will actually pull a hanging opponent ONTO the stage and can easily be combo'd into a Fsmash. -Storing knockback using the ping method can be a bit tricky using pings, but the can naturally stores Duck Hunt's Smash attack knockbacks which opens up several options as these are mutli-hits and each individual hit stores different knockback. Notable ones are Fsmash and storage of the 2nd hit of Down Smash known as 2KB storage (this one does some CRAZY stuff including true combos into clay pigeon) Bonus Notes: -Drop down into Jumping Clay pigeon onto stage is a bit tricky timing but has valid niche uses when getting up from ledge (like K.Rool vacuuming the ledge). -Similar to Robin's Arcfire, you can footstool opponents out of a Clay Pigeon and some of these can have VERY tight tech windows and surprisingly easy to follow-up on -You can Clay pigeon a failed tech (jab lock helps) on most of the cast, but this is matchup and facing dependent (sometimes its just the side with their head that can be hit, or the legs, etc.) This is useful because the Clay pigeon is hitting them from a lower position than is normally possible and can lead into an easy Fsmash. -You can line-up a Trickshot to slip off ledge and hit a hanging opponent 100% of the time by walking to the ledge and dodge rolling away. This puts you at the exact distance you need to be.
@@xjgal7702 Thanks. Duck Hunt has scarily deep mechanical interactions. Video is a great starter, but barely scratches the surface. We're not even getting into the complexities of combined knockbacks, but then again you're talking about a community that figured out Pingas and forced Nintendo to patch it before anyone even knew that the Duck Hunts were learning how to tap B frame perfectly 3 times in a row with their smash attack reticles to double the hits (the ping reticle shared data with the reticles from smash attacks).
16:45 ok I've mained duck hunt for like 2 years and could not for the life of me figure out how to do this intentionally aside from down smash on the third hit. u are king
I'm a fairly casual (and lapsed) player so I'm sure I don't have all the info here, but I was always under the impression that the direction that the can goes when it's hit is based on where the character who hit it is *facing* relative to it. That's why back-air reverses it, neutral reverses it if it's the back hit, etc. Basically, I figured the ping direction of the can will just be the direction you're facing when you hit it. This breakdown showed me some cool exceptions to that shorthand, really cool to see someone pick it apart.
Ah yes, the most exciting smash character In all seriousness, holy moly, smash community still exists. Y’all inspired me years ago and I quit in 2020 but it’s continuing to spire me how much you all still go at it and just have fun
16:42 Something else to note is that if the can has knockback stored you can still ping it and it wont reset the knockback. Also another way for duck to reliably store knockback in the can is to actually use their smash attacks. For some reason, when any of Duck Hunt's smash attacks hit the can, it instantly stores the knockback without ever needing to ping for it. For F smash you want to hit the can with the LAST hit, the knockback stored will launch the can forward very quickly and you can easily set it up by making a fresh can and instantly F smashing. Good for sniping people. For up smash you want the first hit which can be set up by kicking out a can and running forward then input up smash. The knockback stored will launch the can behind duck hunt at a sort of shallow angle making it not go as far on the ground but great to set up on platforms. For down smash you can use either the first or second hit. The knockback of the first hit will launch the can behind duck hunt at an angle that makes it much further than up smash on the ground. The knockback of the second hit will launch the can very far forward VERY fast. If you make a fresh new can, then run in front of it to get the second hit, then it will perfect right in front of duck hunt and can be jabbed to launch immediately.
Yesss, thank you for this!! I've been trying to pick up Duck Hunt for the past few months and at one point was checking to see if you had a video on them lol. Nice to see one now since there were some stuff I was struggling on.
I would add something, at close range, smash side b will go through shield (denying the pressure possible by shooting on the clay). Whereas tilt side b will slow enough the clay so that even if shielded, you can shoot it and prevent getting punished
An important thing that was left out was if you shield over can at ledge, it can blow up and hit any recoveries that have a big hitbox! Its super good in some matchups (bayo and cloud come to mind) and can even stage spike for cheesy stocks
I want you to know that I watched every single "art of" video, even the ones for character that I don't want to play. Your work is incredible keep it out! Kinda pissed of few people just asking for a new character without addressing a word for the video itself.
Just recently got into duck hunt after years of playing Isabelle, and I'm astonished at how much combo potential and trapping mix-ups the dog has. Every game just feels funny.
I think Duck Hunt is one of the most brilliant additions to Smash. I just think it’s a great idea adding the infamous dog from one of the most iconic NES games. And the detail of Duck Hunt being a trio is a neat detail with the shooter helping with gun attacks
Love this channel with all my heart you’re single-handedly my source of all knowledge for this game😂😂 *art of mewtwo in the non rushed future would be much loved❤
hey! you'll probably never read this, but i have a history with duck hunt. when the there was the lead up to ssbu's announcement trailer, i looked over trailers for characters in older games. one of those characters was duck hunt. i had gotten my dog around that time and duck hunt resonated with me a lot because of that. i'll always be a zelda main, but i love duck hunt too! thank you so much for this video ❤
@9:51 Needed correction on Can. The Can can be pinged during Smash Attacks IF you have AB Smash turned OFF. Sekai Doggo recommends in his guide for Duck Hunt mains to have AB Smash off specifically to allow for can pings while charging a smash attack. Otherwise, great guide.
I always said that I'll stop playing any character to main duck hunt in the case art of duck hunt would come out. Guess it's time for me to enter a new world, thanks Izaw great work!
I'll be holding out for my IzAw Art of RosaLuma video just to make you have to learn DAC Nairs and cheeky Luma setups, lol.. but seriously, Rosa has so so much creative potential when you get over the initial, tech learning curve.. and has similar ping-pong setups to Duck Hunt with Luma instead of can! :P
I would love this! I’d like to learn to use some of her stranger hitboxes more effectively, like the back hit of F-tilt or F-air. And those in conjunction with the ball!
Im hoping we get an Art of Pacman soonish cause to me Duck hunt and Pacman actually play kinda similarity in a sense. Pacman is just the better character
...first, let me vote for an Art of Ridley video x') Okay, another trick : jab is an easy and good way to send the can off stage to catch very low recoveries. Also, for recovery you can cancel your up b with can or clay pigeon just before getting hit to take the knockback of the explosion rather than whatever the opponent was hitting you with.
Duck Hunt has been highly underrated tbh. I play this character often and get kicked from arenas very often. I don't even spam either 😅. Oh, let me add this. Doggo is great in dubz...toxic, but very good in dubz 😂.
All 6 duck hunt mains are popping off
Duck hunt!!!!!
bigduckhuntfan7000, fawn, raito, duckhunt_player4, duckhunt_player5 and duckhunt_player6
Hell yea!!,
Including me so that's 7
and me😖
I'm one of the three people who has been waiting for this since Smash 4!
I’m the second person, now we’ve just gotta wait for the 3rd
I am here it me, the third person
@@fisherdotoggim the third person youre faking🤥
I’m also excited for this, but I’m not one of the three because I never actually played Sm4sh

Precisely that! Also, you may look at the can while it's on the ground: if it's upside-down, then its direction has been inverted. :3
The exceptions to that are uptilt and upair.
Ah yes, the most exciting smash character
In all seriousness, holy moly, smash community still exists. Y’all inspired me years ago and I quit in 2020 but it’s continuing to spire me how much you all still go at it and just have fun
18:11 and 18:24 Literally felt like Izaw heard me!
This summarized how I felt learning about this new Duck Hunt hidden!!! knowledge!
I had forgotten how fun and creative Duck Hunt’s moveset is! Excellent guide, as usual.
i think an art of lucas would be such an interesting and useful guide since theres not many lucas guides
Duck Hunt is such a cool character, Sakurai is a creative genius.
art of mega man would make me smile
Samesies
Man duck and dog are great. They need their own show
Duck Hunt is a trio. Duck (Duck), Hunt (Dog), And Hunter Zapps (The Shooter)

did you guys know that the duck doesn’t blink? crazy attention to detail since birds don’t have eyelids

me and the 2 other duck hunt mains going crazy for this one

En verdad muchas gracias por este tipo de contenido desde Honduras gracias izaw

I loved Duckhunt for two reasons: He has a frame one Can, and...he has a frame one Clay Pigeon!
