I was playing against lvl 8 bots earlier and she is fucking crazy with her normals. Shes got wacky combos and kill confirms ans that only what the bots do. Ive never seen anything like it online
zelda is so underdeveloped by most of the community, people need to realize her normals are surprisingly good and that she doesn't have to just rely on her strong specials
Zelda is what I wish all the top tier characters sans Pokemon Trainer were designed like. On paper, Zelda has really obvious weaknesses but when played at her max, humanely attainable potential, she is an absolute monster. She's extremely powerful not because she can do everything, but because her strengths are so overwhelming that they can cover for said weaknesses. She's not a character who isn't allowed to fail, it's why she's so hard to pick up because her advantages aren't obvious aside from her zoning game. But when you realize "Wait, N-Air can do *THAT*" or "F-Air killed at *THAT* percentage" that's when you understand the very real danger she presents. I'd call her top tier, I believe it in my heart. But Palutena exists. :/
@@heartnet40 100% Agree. I think a lot of these "low tier" characters are just ranked so low because people don't know how to fully use them. That's why I laugh every time when a player uses a supposed "low tier" character to whoop someone with a "high tier" character in competitive play. It's awfully hilarious, especially when the chat gets MAD and starts screaming "that character is still low tier" or "that was a fluke!" 😂
right?! I watch supposed "pros" talk about Zelda or commentators on a Zelda match and they're completely clueless... but they're confident in their opinions. Zelda is a great character. There are things I'd change of course (like grab speed and I'd bring back the easier displaced phantom from that one patch they did) but honestly I pretty much never struggle to do well with her. Like one person I was watching talk about her was going on about how she has super laggy options and her neutral is bad because of it and I'm just #facepalm the whole time. Her normals are actually very fast. Especially after they buffed her jab speed in the last patch. Zelda's BIG weakness is her mobility. She struggles HARD against very specific characters (like zss/wolf/palu) and those matchups just happen to be super top tier characters that are EVERYWHERE in bracket. So it really holds her viability back.
I feel so bad that in online she literally loses much of her properties because of lag, yeah, she has some unreactable stuff too, but she's a character with precise timings, and need a lot of reaction to work properly. And who mains her, knows how suck is her disadvantage state at online, being juggled by swordies in non-true combos, dying because wrong time with farore's wind and other things is frustrating af.
I don't tend to watch this video series, but I'm glad I'm sort of a part of it. Thank you for contacting me. And this makes me realise, I still have some things to really tweak in my game. My spacing is usually subpar (don't take full advantage of spaced Kicks, Dtilt and reverse Utilt). A lot of this has to do with her initial dash, which can be very hard to control if you're constantly using it.
I noticed I've got the highest GSP with Zelda, not because I main her (she's my secondary), but because my opponent don't know how she's effective. Most people see her as a spamming character or a projectile user, but she's very close-range oriented and aggressive
This was probably one of the best Zelda guides I have been scouring around for. Not only do you showcase topics rarely covered by other Zelda guides that are crucial for good transferrable habits with Neutrals, Recovery, and Ledge Trapping, but you also present them in a practical way showing off weaknesses like ending lag, what being punished for misreading looks like, and other nuances that other creators don't capture (only VODs of themselves owning their opponents). Thanks so much for this guide!
There is a easier way to do a phantom displacement which I figured out a long time ago which made it for me a lot more consistent to pull it off! Alright for some reason if you press during the input A at the same time as B and jump, I get consistent displaced phantoms without the tight timing of the shorthop jumpsquat frames to take into consideration. I also made sure to bind jump to one of the shoulder buttons for a easier way to press all 3 buttons. If anyone else can test this I would appreciate it to hear if it works.
Thats cool! The way learned was to dash away and jump on the same frame as i hold down in the opposite direction. I basically just roll my thumb on Y and B really fast. It works 5/6 times atm but with more practice I'm sure I'll be able to hit it consistently
- unless it is smash 4 that is how you do it lol... funny that phantom became such a complex and powerful move in smash ultimate when it was so bad before (it had some uses, but was soo slow and comital), and that it is the same move that used to switch to a better character, who is now much more comparable in power.. tbh I think sheik players would want Zelda back for down b, after neglecting her for so long
What I love about Zelda is that she can be used in a large variety of ways. She can zone, be agressive or defensive, and more. Additionally, she can switch playstyles at the drop of a hat
I picked up Zelda in Ultimate after years of playing close-up melee characters... just to melee with her, lol. I pretty much just use her Side-B to stop people from camping/staying away from me, and Up-B to kill sometimes. I thought I'd never get a How-To for Zelda because of her reputation and how normal people play her, but I was wrong! ... I'll watch the video now lol
The long awaited sequel. The first one perfected my Zelda in smash 4, and even though I now main incineroar, hopefully I can master her too with this video.

Are most Zelda players Tilt Stick, Smash Stick or B-Stick?
I can't see much Smash Stick advantage, but she is one of the few characters where B-sticking might have some upside...:
- Phantom on speed-dial
- Fully directing Din's Fire (up or down) before releasing it
- Directing Up-B before activating it
- Up-B out-of-shield on speed-dial
If there was a way to use B-sticking for easier Displaced Phantoms, I'd be sold.
However, I am not sure if losing instant Tilt Stick aerials (and having to re-wire my brain and muscle memory) is worth it.
