This is one of the most profound scenes Bergman ever wrote, and as profound as films get.

This is the most powerfull scene of the most hard hitting movie about existential loneliness. This is art made by a master. I saw it at a cinema, I walked in the streets of Paris in a nihilistic daze with a friend of mine after. It changed me.

No comments?? I guess I should take that as a bad "sign" or something, or a reason i should not be the only response? Well, like the Pastor, my "faith" has also been shaken a bit, recently watching some TV crime stories of 2 women being killed by the same serial killer. But they were BOTH stabbed almost 100 times!! Which brings up mine or anyone else's obvious quandary...which is WHY my God would allow these 2 harmless and innocent girls to endure such EXCESS physical torture?!? I am personally at a loss for words, not that anyone would really care either way, since no one else has even commented on this video so far!? But as for this scene, it almost reminds me of my own doubts, and to that earlier scene just after the Pastor reads that letter. And is then overcome and breaks down, only to suddenly look up and see him(Von Sydow) from "Greatest Story Ever Told" standing there. Just a coincidence...??

But i think some of what this caretaker was saying was not true about Christ. Because if Christ was ONE with the Father, then i think He KNEW the reasons for why everyone had abandoned Him, and it was only for that brief moment that He pleaded to God(not the Father) since He had to bear the whole weight of the sin of all humanity while on the cross. But was also quoting from Psalms 22, the crucifixion chapter.

@@CaptWalker I honestly think it has more to do with Christ being fully divine and fully human, he had to experience everything humans experience in a sense and us humans, we experience God’s absence and silence at times, so even Jesus in the most intense moment of his life, right at death, he feels abandoned by God.

@@peacelove6632 Wow, never thought of that, at least not in that way, and I think you make an amazing observation. The Bible truly encompasses all of the ambits of the Human Condition, even, like in this case, God’s silence
