The truly amazing thing about this scene is that the camera does not break from its view of Ingrid for several minutes. Can you imagine the bravery of Thulin to go through such an extended examination under the eye of the camera. Truly one of the bravest and most significant performances in cinematic history. The entire movie itself is a wonder. There are no wasted shots; each frame plays a role in telling the story. It is a beautiful film, perhaps a perfect film.
Astonishing. Thulin can convey so much passion and feeling without even changing the beat of her voice. A hugely underrated actress; how come we never hear about her in lists of the best of all time? This combined with her work in 'Cries and Whispers' and 'The Silence' seem enough to get her onto such lists.
Aleph Brazil, estou muito contente por ter te encontrado aqui mesmo depois de terem passado 10 anos desde que comentaste aqui. Preciso encontrar as musicas todas que tocam na missa desse maravilhoso filme, se souberes por favor me responda. Agradeco
what a film, deeply moving...shakes me right to the foundation every time...This is as good as it gets. And those Bergman closeups...stunning, riveting, and all so telling. "Cinema has conquered the human face" --- Bergman
The priest is abstract in his love, he isnt comfortable with earthly love and suffering, he is "lightness" personified. She is more physical and "heavy".
I loved that movie and now I am searching all of his Movies, I want all the names of the songs they played in the church, if someone knows where I can find them, please help me

She was excellent in Wild Strawberries too.
Not just one of cinema's finest hours, but one of mankind's finest moments. Bravo!

Brilliant. Ingrid Thulin is my favorite actress.
my favorite actress as well. Ingrid Thulin
One of the greatest scenes in all of cinema.
i want to have a nice, healthy cry session with ingmar bergman
My favorite Bergman film.
Mine too. I can't think of many films with as much to say about relationships, faith (and lack thereof), and the struggle to find meaning in life.
SpookyApparition Also check out Rohmer's MORAL TALES films.
Terrific scene. But does anyone else notice she seems to go a very long time w/o blinking?
+Jessica S Yes unusually long!
So much time passes between her blinks
Maybe some kind of way/technique to quickly make your eyes teary? Mmm... But it sure makes this scene quite sincere and authentic.
The best monologue in the history of the cinema. Ingrid Thulin is amazing!

Pray you don't nod off watching this movie for the first time and wake up to this scene
Tremendous film!
