@@ProfessorViral I think you have made videos or at least talked on finding positivity or hope in times where everything seems hopeless and everything one does feels insignificant? I could be misremembering. :P
im almost done with the manga and i have less than 10 chapters left. When i first finished the anime I was so amazed by the show and phos's character. but the manga shows even more of phos's journey of change.
I always did wonder why Phos never just let the Lunarians take them in the beginning, it’s what I would have done. If your presence is a threat then removing yourself would mark a decrease in danger long term and you will have found use. Additionally, the shedding of the self in order to attain higher power while deeply uncomfortable at a point makes sense if you can climb higher then do so, Phos generally speaking provided no value and I would have accelerated the process honestly; if the foundations are in remarkable but the house magnificent then that’s what I would call an improvement. Because in the end they would not have been happy remaining Phos.
I see houseki no kuni, i watch. Glad i find this channel, I've already binged the last 7 videos since last night😂 you should check out the manga! It's ending soon😭
So now that I'm finished catching my breath after the kick in the chest that is this video: As always, I love how deeply you go into into the themes and ideas behind anime. I tend to enjoy stuff more on the surface level, for me that was Houseki's fully CG style and the post-post-post-apocalypse setting, but that theme of change did strike a chord with me way back when it was released. It struck an even deeper chord with me now that I've been going through so much, relative, rapid change. I think the concept of the ship of Theseus applies here, after all, if you've changed almost everything about you, are you still 'you'? Is change a good thing if you lose sight of why you changed in the first place? It's a sobering thought, but like you said, once you beginning to change in such a drastic way, the only way forward feels like further and further change. Thanks for making yet another great video, looking forward to the next one~
I think that change is a good thing, only because it must happen. For every ill that change brings, staying exactly the same brings just as many. Knowing that, all we can do is be aware of change and it's dangers, so that when it is exerting a large pull on us, we're aware of what is being lost, and what isn't
Great video Professor Viral, can you please put listed anime that show up in the vid in the description of the video? I'll like to watch them. Plus nice geology lesson, I collect rare rocks like Tanzanite and Larimar.
Every time I listen to these, it's when I'm at work and can't check the screen. I never know if I'm missing something in all those Japanese voice segments.
Sorry about that. I always use dub when possible, but sometimes the only legal option for me is subs, and the breaks in music to play a clip make adding music immensely easier
@ProfessorViral that is entirely valid. Huh...I hadn't thought about how that would relate to music and editing. Thank you for the insight. I'll have a greater appreciation for the technique, next time I hear it.
Great critique. Loved the video. Saw this ages ago as entertainment while trying to right myself after years of unemployemnt....through a fog. Now, it's interesting how much more one can take away as a second viewing. Must one lose something of themselves to change?
To some extent, I do think so. However, I bring this all up because awareness of that fact is what minimizes the cost. If we are actively considering what we gain and lose when we change, since we are guaranteed to change, then we can be much more involved in creating our "self"
@@ProfessorViral fair, but we must also be cognizant that's as we progressed through life, we will encounter ideas that challenge and logically defeat previous preconceptions therefore providing no reason to hold on does preconceptions while adopting the new better ideas.
Working from the anime, it's what I gathered, so anime-wise I'll stand by it, but I do hate for something to have a sort of factual error like that. Sorry about that
For sure, but to not do so in any way is almost like to have never lived to begin with. There has to be some level of delay for a cohesive self to form. what I'm really stressing here isn't to stay the same, but to consider the forms that one goes through across time, to see if anything important was lost
Hey if you don't mind me asking can you tell me how you got so good at this prose thing as in where you even practiced I want to improve my prose because it would realy help with some extracurricular activities ive gotten involved in but I have no idea where to even look for info on this
The sad answer is that I don't really have one. I've never taken a writing course or really studied it on my own for that matter, it's just how my brain words in a way, that I put way too many words to everything all the time (like right now). But, I will say one of the things that got me actually utilizing that part of me was philosophy. A philosophy ethics course in college gave me the proper backing to turn the stories in my head into something meaningful, and what I recognized of that material in Psycho-Pass kicked off my love for actually putting those words onto paper. The most I can suggest is finding something so compelling you feel you have to write about it, and then just doing it, and to a reasonable extent, doing it until you feel satisfied with what you're saying. I think some of what I made even just 2 or 3 years ago is pedestrian at best, and that was after 2 or 3 years of doing this already
If more anime were animated with the same quality as this show, I wouldn't have so much disdain and vitriol for 3D CGI in anime. The vast majority of the time its just used as a crutch or the product of insane time constraints... and I'm sorry guys but a show willing to compromise on quality (even if that's the way it has to be just to exist at all) will never be the GOAT in my eyes (lookin at you AOT)
I'm not too harsh on CGI, and many times it's used in the background to add detail in ways people won't even notice, but this one really utilized its strengths by changing the perspective so much. When you can do big sweeping shots, do big sweeping shots!
Getting too old. You just realise that yes, you never really know what you are after, and while there are choices you can change there are a lot of choices you can't. They are things you didn't do for reason you've mostly forgotten. You just hope they were the best choices you could have made, but you have the ability to look back and thing maybe they weren't. I don't know dude.
Forgetting the real reasoning behind decisions like that is one of the more depressing facts. That, as someone new, we won't understand it the same way, or just genuinely lost the information to remember. But, that might be why forward being the only way doesn't have to be depressing. If that's going to happen, then we have to keep making decisions as our current self to play around the ones we can't make. It means we have to keep acting and living as who we are now, even if we're somewhat bound by who we were

I've covered MGS 1 and 2 before, but I tried branching out into other games and actually had a horrible time writing about them. I think I can only handle ones with very set and linear stories that the player doesn't impact or have to really discover. I think it's just me realizing I'm not a video game person haha
Your observations are based on the characters' self-stated motives padded with literal descriptions of the plot and re-iterations of the same point for 50 minutes. You said it all in the title, that's not good enough. I get this feels meaningful to you, but you're not knowledgeable enough about anime and manga or media analysis to say anything worth listening to. You haven't even read the damn manga.
I could explain it all to you, my timeline and background and ideas, but why should I when you open with insults? Your observations are worthless when thrown around in harshness and without anything constructive. And you know what, I don't give a damn. I listened to comments like this before, and it ruined my mentality for months and made my life hell. I worked on this, I put it together and put it out there, and people are responding to it well and saying it led them to think about themselves, and that is a god damn proof of value and worth my efforts. I don't give a shit if you think I'm smart or not. But what you're insulting here is an attempt to get people to think about themselves, the world, their place in it and live better lives from their own thoughts and ideas they develop from what I say here. I know I'm just mostly using the ideas presented in stories, and no I'm not an expert on every single one. But I worked at it, and it has good effect. So get out of here with this. I'm certain of what I'm doing and it's positive impact.
@@ProfessorViral definitely harsh but still constructive, if you want it to be. You could’ve strengthened your point by doing research apart from watching the show, by cross-referencing it with other media, maybe relating it to your specific personal experiences. The fact that you didn’t do that makes the whole video feel somewhat pointless, and makes you sound unreliable as a narrator. You have no idea how hard I popped-off when I saw the thumbnail!!! Will immediately watch. Awesome video! Even after watching HnK so many times and it being my favorite, you were able to ofter insights and points of view that I hadn't considered. Sasuga Prof. Thank you for this.
I highly recommend you check out the manga for this series. Only watching the anime is like dipping your toes in the kiddy pool. This story is amazingly deep.
This was an interesting essay, but the lack of any perspective on how the way the changes are presented in a specifically Chan/Zen Buddhist fashion is a missed opportunity.
I'm a Therevada Buddhist. This is the single most Buddhist series I've ever seen. It would be nice if we get the other seasons. The rest of the manga is really good.
another land of the lustrous video while i endlessly wait for season 2 and more manga chapters? don't mind if I do. great job
Thank you!
Update , the manga ended....finally 🦦
Arrrgh, i love your videos so much, but lately, it's been tough to watch because it hits too hard. I have to watch in pieces over days. I like the videos from the start. You have come so far; keep it up
I feel this so much. Professor Viral you make god tier videos and they really resonate but sometimes life can just be so much sometimes I do avoid clicking some because I'm like fuckkk can't afford to go through this right now lol
I do worry about that at times, as the topics have really gotten almost entirely serious. Is there something more light hearted that you would enjoy to see me write?
@@ProfessorViral I think you have made videos or at least talked on finding positivity or hope in times where everything seems hopeless and everything one does feels insignificant? I could be misremembering. :P
Change is to be in accord with the changed one's identity, consent, and intent... Be true to yourself and achieve your goals.
im almost done with the manga and i have less than 10 chapters left. When i first finished the anime I was so amazed by the show and phos's character. but the manga shows even more of phos's journey of change.
Its one that I do want to get around to for sure
Thank you, sincerely i wish i had better words then just thank you for these videos of yours that get me through the day.
Of course. Thank you for your time, without that I couldn't keep making them!
That last Phos progression chart hit hard.
A video on the manga would be great
whoa I didn't expect you to cover Houseki no Kuni 😲
Someone told me to years ago, and I didn't listen. Really should have earlier haha
Beautiful beautiful interpretation. Great video
If you're going to read the manga, be prepared for heartache and tragedy.
Those are my middle names. My parents couldn't decide
Where the anime stopped was good. But the manga... my god, I have never read anything that made me cry just from thinking about it
It's on the top of my manga list for sure
I see houseki no kuni, i watch. Glad i find this channel, I've already binged the last 7 videos since last night😂 you should check out the manga! It's ending soon😭
Glad you've been enjoying the videos! Hope they're not too much of an existential crisis at once haha
7:49 I mean…if there was an obsidian or chert girl, they’d be real good at that…
all this talk and this is just about the anime??? oohhh boy.
This is a great video
and then they quite literally lose their head.
Great video Professor Viral, can you please put listed anime that show up in the vid in the description of the video? I'll like to watch them. Plus nice geology lesson, I collect rare rocks like Tanzanite and Larimar.
8:10 [Laughs in manga]
Every time I listen to these, it's when I'm at work and can't check the screen. I never know if I'm missing something in all those Japanese voice segments.
Sorry about that. I always use dub when possible, but sometimes the only legal option for me is subs, and the breaks in music to play a clip make adding music immensely easier
@ProfessorViral that is entirely valid. Huh...I hadn't thought about how that would relate to music and editing. Thank you for the insight. I'll have a greater appreciation for the technique, next time I hear it.
i lived a lot of life and not a thing has changed. lots of things change, people don’t change.
So change can mean a lot of things.
What I've learned from this video so far:
Change could mean these concepts.
Pain
Transition
Death
It can also be very good, and it will happen, which was my point in stressing how bad it can be. If it must occur, we must be aware to make it good
I see Phos and I click.
Do you hear it? The pulse of the awakening.
Bit by bit. Bit by bit. Bit by bit
This left me with a lot of food for thought...... I have to reflect
Hopefully it all leads you to somewhere positive!
@@ProfessorViral surely, it's helping me understand change a lot better
Phos my beloved
Your title made me click, your intro made me wanna comment, then I lost the adversity... You've gained a sub.
Thank you, it's very validating to know my words can do so 💙
excellent
more of that good good sad juice
Professor "Sad Juice" Viral
PEAK !!
Thanks!
I mean thats not realllly what happened with Diamond.... she still didn't feel worthy enough and it led to things happening in the manga
Working from the anime, it's what I gathered, so anime-wise I'll stand by it, but I do hate for something to have a sort of factual error like that. Sorry about that
I love this anime so much ! 😍
good video, but being stagnant is to die, no matter in what aspect life you might lose something but you would have lost even if you did nothing.
For sure, but to not do so in any way is almost like to have never lived to begin with. There has to be some level of delay for a cohesive self to form. what I'm really stressing here isn't to stay the same, but to consider the forms that one goes through across time, to see if anything important was lost
I think the author recently completed the manga. It might be fun to do videos on the manga.
I really would like you to read the manga now that its coming to an end.
I'm so sad it didn't go into the manga
You got my attention with rocks
immediate evangelion 🗣🗣💥💥🔥🔥
@@ProfessorViral I see thanks this atleast gives me a starting point
You kind of look like Pete Spankoffski from starkid.
I wouldn't have recognized that reference until this halloween lol
36 seconds in, I thought, another great fin- oh its prof viral, ofc, let me get my glasses, I didn't see it at first my bad
Fire nails bro 💅
Also the video is good and well-constructed and such
If more anime were animated with the same quality as this show, I wouldn't have so much disdain and vitriol for 3D CGI in anime.
Read the manga. You are not ready for what's bound to happen
Houseki No Kuni mentioned! WTF is a second season?!
It means we have to keep acting and living as who we are now, even if we're somewhat bound by who we were
@@ProfessorViral True enough
I know youl probably not have the time but please please atleast look up what a house in fata morgana is its a story that I KNOW youl probably like purely based on the kind of content youve been making and seem to like its long and theres a ton of stuff I can't tell you about in this recommendation due to it being a mystery story but please check out a house in fata morgana
Mucho texto
👍🐻👍
You really oughta use the dub for these clips. Land of the Lustrous's dub is wonderful!
And because you would have pronounced Phos's name right.
I actually always use dub when possible, but my streaming options for this one was sub only
That was pretentious?! I must be an asshole all the time.
😊ju
Have you ever considered brunching out into video games? I would pay to watch your take on dark souls and bloodborne.
I've covered MGS 1 and 2 before, but I tried branching out into other games and actually had a horrible time writing about them. I think I can only handle ones with very set and linear stories that the player doesn't impact or have to really discover. I think it's just me realizing I'm not a video game person haha
@@ProfessorViral Thanks for the quick answer. Keep doing what you are most interested in.

First!
Some number that isn't first
Your observations are based on the characters' self-stated motives padded with literal descriptions of the plot and re-iterations of the same point for 50 minutes.
Put your ego aside and ask yourself what your ideal audience gets out of this video, what value does it have that simply watching the show doesn’t fulfill?
ugh i love your videos sm
Thanks, glad they've been good for you!
Using ProfessorViral as my goto for anime suggestions )))
Most of what I've been working through have been fan suggestions, so it's all yall as well
Absolutely love your videos and Houseki no Kuni. Theres so much media I consumed, but nothing hit as close to home as this - if you've enjoyed the Anime I beg you to check out the Manga, it ends this month. You've genuinely only seen the tip of the iceberg 🥲❤️
It's right up there on the list of ones I will actually check out some day
