  • French Creek is located on the eastern side of Vancouver Island, nestled between Parksville and Qualicum Beach. It's a hidden coastal community with stunning views of the Strait of Georgia and easy access to the famous Lasqueti Island.
To drive here, you’ll board a ferry from Vancouver and arrive in Nanaimo, which will take roughly 2 hours by boat, then 35 minutes via car. There’s also a small airport in Qualicum Beach that you can fly into from Vancouver Airport, which operates daily.
While the area is relatively small, its charm lies in its peaceful atmosphere and strong connection to land and sea; whether you’re looking for a relaxing getaway or planning to relocate, French Creek has something to offer everyone.
The homes in French Creek are spectacular. Here, you’ll have easy access to the beach, amenities, and shopping and live in Canada's most temperate climate. Join Scott Lissa as he gives you a tour of Vancouver Island’s best-kept secret, French Creek.

The smell is not from the fish plant,,,, its the sewage plant across the road. it was really bad in the 90's until they upgraded with all the new homes its time for more upgrading. Still i really enjoyed living there for 24 years

I noticed the water treatment plant across the road from the harbour. It looks relatively new. Thanks for commenting, Michael!

@@Nanaimore It's called French Creek Pollution Control Center and it is why people call the place "Stench Creek". It's such a beautiful place and it's a shame that's right in the heart of it across the street from the harbour.

Having lived in this area since 1979 the Pollution Control Center has always had problems with the stench that comes from it, millions have been spent on up grades over the years, but the more people move into the region, it has a hard time keeping up with the add waste water!

The only problem you miss is the potable water in Parksville And French Creek suck. They are constantly on level 3 and 4 restrictions. Qualicum Beach none of that.

Another problem with living in the Oceanside area as with other area's of BC is the lack of Dr's in the region and no hospital in Parksville only a Urgent Care Centre.

The water in Columbia Beach (northwest of the creek) is terrible. Not drinkable and hell on pipes.

@@trevord7659 we have been here 3.5 years and have yet to smell the treatment plant in Columbia Beach. We solve the drinking water issue with a Brits filter and many of our neighbours have softeners which help with the pipe issues. We just haven’t gotten around to installing anything yet.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a beautiful spot. Columbia Beach is the friendliest neighbourhood I have seen and being able to put our kayaks on carts and walk them down to the beach to launch is a dream come true.
