OMG look at Capri targeting and treating a cockatoo she doesn't even know! I love watching the tiny trainer grow up! Obviously she's her own person and can do whatever she wants and whatever makes her happy but it would be so cool to watch someone go from a beginner trainer to an expert the way you guys are. And it shows anyone can learn bird language and build a relationship with them.
I feel like this owner really wasn’t able to read the bird’s body language and didn’t care that it was uncomfortable. He was way too pushy
That owner was messing it up and he didn't respect the bird, his moves were negative so was his energy 😯. The cockatoo reacted on that, kudos for Dave and Capri to show how it's done. 😊🇳🇱
They guy seems to give off a negative energy from the very beginning. When someone says, "I have no filter," it's a red flag to me. No doubt they care about their bird though.
The bird doesn't like or trust him.
Yes, his opening statement of the video makes him seem very pushy and arrogant. I've watched other videos with him in them and every one he's got the same attitude.
@@shannaabrams5400 if he is that forceful in front of a camera as well as a trainer, I wonder how he is when nobody is watching.
I'm a fan of Capri! For such a young person, she's so intelligent and wise. She knows how to remain calm and still and is clearly gaining a wonderful understanding of birds as she grows up in her unique family. Well done!
I'm glad your white cockatoo fears don't carry over to Capri. lol She is growing so well in training the birds. Good job Capri! ❤
Loved that sneaky lure you use at 6:33 . Gonna have to try that one since my cockatoo pins his eyes and thinks the chopstick is prey to be tortured and erased from this earth. 😂
Gotta use allll the tricks when it comes to cockatoos! lol
(laugh)What are you doing?
Bird...Showing everyone my beautiful underfluffies!
Beautiful Cockatoo 😍
Love of Pets Do you think you will ever get a large bird or will you just stick to smaller birds?
im getting a rainbow budgie today :)
Congrats! Sounds like a beutiful budgie
What are you going to name it?? So happy for you.
After month, how was your experience with it ?
HoW is he/she going, I really want a budgie. But I decided to go to a cockatiel because they more cuddley, but imma get a yellow one and name it spongebob and if it’s a girl imma name it cheese
@@themanbehindtheslaughter3480 I'm naming mine pikachu
The bird seems a bit anxious but very aware. Big beautiful eyes.
I cant wait for this! I have 6 birds but my umbrella cockatoo is definitely the most challenging and I've been waiting SO long for a bird tricks videos on cockatoos that aren't galahs! I love galahs but man, no comparison to an umbrella throwing a tantrum 😂
Praying for ya Jamie! I know cockatoos intimidate you 😂🙂
I have a galah and tantrums are very rare( at least with mine) Umbrella cockatoos certainly look like a big challenge at times, from UA-cam videos, good luck.
2:07 Guy:"step up" Cockatoo: "how bout..... no"
I felt the cockatoo relaxed and was happy, when Capri was training him. It’s amazing how some animals can respond to a youngster, Some horses are the same, I had a fiery Arabian who was an absolute gentleman with children(careful supervision, of course)
He's like a white, big flower.😍🥰
I want to meet this guy’s entire flock , Looks like your biggest client right now
You will!
SHE IS SUCH A PRETTY BIRD!!
This is so great, they really are hesitant owners and do love their bird. It is really important how you stress the trust with the bird and the building of trust with the owner here. Great video on how important the respect with the people and bird is!
See Jamie there not so bad, even Capri can do it 😂 go Capri 💪😎
I always wanted a cockatoo you are the best bird trainer that is on UA-cam I watch the vids everyday I have a budgie and I was doing shoulder, perch and stay keep up the good work Jamie
Thanks so much Nick!
That cockatoo is very cute and has attitude.
Every time I watch these videos I’m amazed more and more by you guys...I learn something from just about every one of them. Thanks 🙏
Yay, thank you!
Me too 🫰🏼
Thanks for sharing the consultation with us! What an adorable bird💛 I love how she was hanging upside down at the start😂
Patience, kindness and understanding. Best thing about how you work with these beautiful creatures. They're naturally curious and tend to want to investigate new things (and occasionally destroy them) but the amount of trust they have to have in us, as a completely alien species to them, is touching. Capri is fantastic with the birds and I wish everyone was like her. Please keep up the excellent work, every human you train makes a birds life worth living.
Hopefully the owners have seen a side to their feathered companion that they haven't appreciated and also show the same level of kindness and respect you've demonstrated. Waves from Australia (with my galah on my shoulder).
Typical difficult cockatoo. It’s very familiar. Thank you. Edit: Had to add great job Capri.
These videos actually helped with a lot of my birds, I do really hope you continue to make these!
Isabelle I think so to, the attitude, the approach, the williness to read the bird, in this video you can really see how is never going to work vs. how is going to work. Great example with huge learning curve
I just watched the first 30 seconds and even if a cockatoo wasn’t in the title and thumbnail, I would have known these were cockatoo owners lmao.
😂
I remember this couple from a previous video, nice to see how they are feeling positive about the training thanks to BirdTricks training techniques. Beautiful Cockatoo(s), looking forward to their progress.
please remember to have a next of kin for your cockie! in australia are large number of cockies are put into sanctuaries or simply let free due to their owners dying. never forget that a cockie can live for up to and over 80 years!
Wow!!! That's great to have a new little friend. I hope you will enjoy the most beautiful moments with the cockatoo. 💝💖💞💓💗💕💘❣❤🧡💛💚. You're so kind with parrots. You tame they with no fear, I mean you're great! 😍🥰😘😄☺😊😃🙃.
omg Capri is so cute! I can tell she is already learning so much from you guys!❤️
I gotta repeat the obvious. You two are wonderful teachers and bird lovers, but I also see two superb parents! Capri's ever increasing understanding of birds and how important it is to respect these feathered friends is heart warming and proof of the way she's being raised. Great job all around!
I thought my macaw was weird preferring to step back onto my hand rather than stepping up; glad to know it's a thing some birds do.
Ahhhh I love you channel!!!!!!!
Yay, I guessed right on this one :) Interesting to see you working with a cockatoo :) :)
I ... L O V E ... Your Husband and Capri! .. Also you, of course, but I CAN'T handle the 100% pure L O V E and interest and knowledge... It's so pure! You guys must be so happy together 🥰
And yes, the male owner of this Cockatoo seems very "Fed up" and kinda short tempered, but the thing to notice is that he is actually trying to understand the bird better. And I think that is worth a lot. And you guys are so great handling the owners too.
This is just so wholesome !
"We had to know you're not full of s###." 😍😂😂😂😂😂
We are taking in a 21 year old Eleanora cockatoo in august. Will definitely be using a lot of your training tactics :)
Off topic: Holy cow, Mikal is gorgeous!
We went to a zoo the other day and they had a ton of cockatoos, macaws, amazons, and a whole enclosure of budgies. There was one cage with umbrella cockatoos that were dancing, laughing, and talking a ton. The quieter one came to the front of the cage and was giving clear body language that it wanted some scratches. I kept telling her that she was a pretty bird and started scratching her. She kept leaning closer practically trying to squeeze through the cage bars so it could be closer to me. When I went to walk away I said bye and the it screamed " wait! Come back! " to me. I felt so bad for leaving it but happy that it liked me. It was so cute!
Another awesome video full of good content. The toe tapping made me laugh when you pointed it out. Also, Capri is seriously a bird whisperer! 7:26 wait, STAAAAP! Is she talking about Bumi?! I literally did a doubletake when I heard her say that and then Dave mentioned UA-cam went crazy lol. Anyway thanks for sharing :D!
When the owner was working with her I was so anxious thinking he was going to get nailed the entire time 😬🤣 glad you guys were able to help them out and give them some direction. I love that they are eager to learn and truly want to do what is best for their birds. They have such a diverse flock!
This is one smart bird.
I'm new to the bird world. We pick up our Jenday Conure this Friday. I've been noticing that these kind of birds remind of those friends back in the day that likes to go to mosh pits. 🤣🤣
If it's a first bird I would reccemend going with a smaller bird such as a budgie or a cockatiel, but if you've done you're research you're probaly fine.
It was hilarious to see everyone worried about a sulphur crested cockie bite! They are half the size of a macaw and arent nearly as fierce in bites, imo. I do love them but they are crazy.
the owner was telling the bird what to do with frustrations ,the trainer was calmer and more like ,asking for the bird to do a command ,you can tell the bird didn't like the owners approach
Soo cute!
Yall have cool clients
Omg I LOVE cockatoos!! I have a rescued Goffin who is my baby boy and next it’ll be an umbrella! ❤️❤️❤️
Capri is REALLY good.
She is beautiful!!! Could you please do a video with Moluccan Cockatoos? I have always wanted to add one to our flock and have heard so many negative things about them being needy or screaming all the time lol. I am on a farm so it doesnt matter if its loud but I want some tips on training them. Rn I just have a macaw, and a Amazon.
Well I'd argue macaws and Amazon's are very loud too haha. I'm sure a cockatoo wouldn't be a problem in that sense. They're just notorious for 'mood swings' and 'unpredictability' but as with any bird, you have to spend time with them and get to know their personality and eventually you'll figure out how they'll react to stuff even if you've never seen that exact situation before, yknow? Like.. if it were your kid you'd know what they like and don't and when they're gonna throw tantrums etc. Same with birds :D as long as you have the patience, time, space, and funds - which I assume you do cause you already have a macaw AND an Amazon - then it should work out fine! Maybe visit some cockatoos of all types at bird rescues and shelters or any friends or such that have cockatoos etc. Get to know them. Each bird is unique though of course but it might help. Good luck :)
She likes Dave, you should get her!
It's the evil birb from rio!
I would loveee to see more sulfur crested too training. We adopted a 35yo resort rescue GSC2 named Patricia and she is amazing with my husband but with me??? Ughhh🤦🏽♀️ I’ve been touch training lately and it’s helped with a lot of our interactions. She’s great with me when husband isn’t home but completely psycho when he is home
I will get an idea for my friends cockatoo hes very aggressive and i was wondering how or how long to work with him so this should give some idea of how training may look
Dave, did he get it? It's NOT about obedience. She should be having fun while bonding & learning. He should watch all JamieLeighs videos (after 2012/13 or so)
Cockatoos are the most dramatic birds ever
Hi I am maki g an outdoor aviary and I wanted to know which birds are best. Right now I have a amazon a cockatiel and a little parrot what other birds do you recommend??? Thank you
im getting a peach cacatoo!!!! are those the kind of same
Love your videos! ... but can they be longer? Short videos seem like your just getting into the content and then it's over
Wait so what was the stick actually there go do?
Can u please do a basic step up video
What kind treats is that? Please
Was hoping that you were going to train an umbrella, last time I tried stick training MadMax my u2 he took the chop stick out my hand like a spoiled three year old and chewed in in half , he’s a chainsaw with feathers, plus small treats have to be given on a spoon, I’m not losing any digits 🖐🏼👈🏽
I liked the part with the cockatoo
I’m thinking about getting a green cheeked conure does anyone have any tips? Btw I haven’t owned any birds before this
You dont have blueberry in your description with all your other birds
Doing well
Cockatoos are fun
are your birds harness trained?
Hi I'm a very big fan
What? A umbrella cockatoo that doesn't like training? Why, I never. :p lol
I believe that’s a sulphur crested cockatoo, not sure which size tho!
@Birbgie I don’t know loads about toos 😅. I’m pretty sure it’s not an umbrella!
@Birbgie ah thank you! I didn’t mean u suggested it was an umbrella, sorry for the confusion!
@Birbgie no problem :)
Hey,
I just rescued a 4 years old African gray. His feather is good and he’s doing good, but he is really scared when I first saw him he step up fine and he wasn’t scared from me. When I took him home , he very scared now and he doesn’t accept any treat, he didn’t eat until now and just a little bit, he bites anyone get near his cage. I’m taking things very slow, any advices on how I can let him trust me, I tired giving him a head scratch , he let me for like a second then he Bit me.
As far as he is concerned you've kidnapped him and taken him to live in a strange place. Give him time. Target train, don't step up train. Talk to him, share food, build trust. And give time. A lot of time.
So, I have a question, I am thinking of getting a parakeet, and it will live in my room. My kitchen is on the other side of the house, the bird will not be allowed into the kitchen under any circumstances. We have 2 Teflon pans, and a nonstick waffle maker, that we hardly ever use, if I get a parakeet, would it be ok if we keep our pans?
Personally I don't think it's worth the risk. Teflon can kill a bird at a very long distance!
@@kittykate84 Ok, thank you very much for the info!!
woah
Hey I recently bought a cockatoo and it’s been 3 days, It’s terrified! It won’t come next or even close to me, do you hav want tips to make the bird be not scared of me?
Hey foot ball debates just wondering if you still need tips
(I find just quietly and not to fast putting food in they’re aviary’s and just leaving is a great way to bond and each time staying a bit closer and remember to go at your birds comfort levels
It takes a long time to build trust and only seconds to break, be wise and good luck
I am owned by a 50 year old Moluccan cockatoo which I rescued 3 years ago. We have made great progress and I love him dearly 4 weeks ago I broke my ankle and now have a cast. As I live alone with my bird I had to board him. I call every day to check on him. Does anybody know if it would be good to face time him or would that confuse him and make him miss me more? I am bringing him home next week he is always out of his cage and dances and runs around playing with his toys. I welcome any suggestions all you birdy folks might have.
👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I just got a budgie do you have any advice for me?
For budgies fresh veggie chop, chop it into TINY little pieces (millet seed size). I have 2 budgies and they throw out the larger pieces.
Well, you’ve started at the right place, doing research. Continue to that keep yourself educated and knowledgeable. Then just take it slow, our guys took a year to be independent and fully trust us, but that also depends on your birds background. It might take a while but be patient and keep trying you’ll get there eventually. Also desensitize her to any new stimulus- slowly introduce new food and toys, feed by hand and build trust. Good luck
Whats the birds name?
3:30 it’s about time you take the sheet off
Rather than using a clicker can’t u say a certain word every time to replace the clicking noise?
Edit: cause the clicker is there so it does what she did before when u clicked. So won’t u be able to use a word?
You can use a word. Many people just find it more difficult to stay consistent and maintain good timing.
Hi
He should have that bird
Can u please go back to basics and do a step up video
How many birds do they have? 😂
Hellooooo
I sense a not too loving attitude. I have one l go forward when he does and beack off if he,s not interested. It took 2 years he can get petted only on his head and kiss my mouth smeared in peanut butter.
I don't understand why there's no loving for rewards and how petting them is not a part of the training
First
Soften your voice be kind lol they know when your not crazy about them or if your afraid.
Ugh. Cockatoos are insane. WAY too much trouble IMO. They’re beautiful and I know a lot of people Lind them, they’re just not for me.
They have had Crane operater training since before the industrial revolution. Wtf? Some jerkoff threw you in a 300000 machine and said you'll figure it out !@@$ it

Who's on firsttt
Step up is a trick? They're just supposed to step up and step down don't reward them for stepping up and stepping down um let them know it's not OK for them not to step up turn around and give them your back and I like you gonna leave them They're just supposed to step up and step down don't reward them for stepping up and stepping down um let them know it's not OK for them not to step up turn around and give them your back and I like you gonna leave them Can't let your butt train you steping up is not a trick. I'm sorry I probably shouldn't post this I'm commenting on my cellphone using speak to text with no glasses on so hopefully it makes a little sense
The most troublesome bird in my opinion.
This is the one of the flock they adopted for a friend who could no longer care for it.
@@BirdTricks Is he in a home now or some other place?
@@soowhatt5877 I believe they still are working with this cockatoo on working it into their home dynamic. They didn't seem like the type to give up that easy, they knew it would be challenging.
@@BirdTricks Thank you its good to know.
That bird not bonded with owner . He come across dominant distracting her self for avoidance. Training wonderful but bird prefer other s . Feel she being forced with training with person she doesn't like. He not treating her like individual just a bird. Cockatoo are such emotional creatures. She like your husband over owner. Is it fare to force a relationship.???
