I’ve always liked how Marin mentions that Krillin is kept out of prison for his own safety at a point in time where you can count the number of people on the planet actually able to hurt him on one hand.
I know right, every time I rewatch this and she says "do you know what would they do to guys like you" I think to myself "nothing, except die to him"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can buy that due to self-confidence issues, they could push him around, and only realizes how he could demolish the entire prison with one finger when his friends visit him and point this out
@@PartigradeCannon it's interesting that conversely, 18 brought out his confidence even before they got together. "I may not be good for much, but I can LIFT"
This is funnier honestly than him just clapping back ‘Bitch, unless Vegeta or the Ginyus or Frieza come back, I’d run that prison!’
Hey, they don't know that and Krillin is pretty smart to not correct them.
I like to think that this episode is where Krillin completely stepped out of his jerkass mindset after getting so royally screwed. Even in this episode he's so desperate to get laid that it inevitably leads to his downfall, and that + dying twice + the 3 year maturity gap led to him being a much more grounded and sympathetic character in season 3
Like that
he needed to be humbled
Damn, that's a really good way to look at it
@@knuxuki1013 So does Vegeta but he still never learns.
Dying didn’t humble him.
Dying twice didn’t humble him.
But falling for a hunny pot ploy to expose him for financial fraud did.
on twitter, a long time ago, I asked what you would do with Garlic Jr and Kaiser told me something like "oh we'll give it the respect it deserves" and I smiled to myself and decided to trust you, so I was laughing my ass off for this entire episode.
That's not inaccurate...
That's such an amazing response
Gave you the full love shot 😂
I love how Kaiser looks at his past work like it's a toxic boyfriend " I can fix it/him"
"He's a little rough around the edges but with a little work..."
"You don't know it/him like I do. We understand each other."
"Deep down its intentions were good!"
Man, that Maron twist was so great, because it set the stage for the best line in the entire series.
"The difference between you and me is that when my girl left me, she took all my money. When *your* girl left you, she took all *her* money."
Gonna need a senzu for that one.
Tien: I’m so glad I’m here
Yamcha: Well at least I slept with Bulma!
Krillin: And, unlike Vegeta, you can't prove that!
I think Yamcha could have gotten a decent counterburn pointing out it was "Juan's" money, reminding him he only got that money via massive fraud.
@@PartigradeCannonI mean he did *actually* die on an alien planet though
Korin answering Maron's awkward question like it was as mundane as being asked for the time is absolutely priceless.
I love it! He clearly had already tought about it
Like no hesitation and absolutely straight faced. He’s been alive for a while; he knows what he’s about.
"probably fat kitties" is one of my favorite lines in the series
The fact he answered right away gives me the thought this is a conversation he and Yajirobe have already had and agreed on
Korin DID say he wanted to have kids in Return of Cooler, but apparently Yajirobe wasn’t ready. Perhaps they worked it out by the time 31 happens.
Nail telling Piccolo to get a house has got to be one of the best aging interactions in the show because of the existence of "Dragonball Super:Superhero".
Nail constantly gives really good advice. Piccolo was just slow to act on it.
And giving himself the house guru like chair I think tfs nail would say “ so this is how it feels, nice”
Nail: You can make clothes out of nothing! Are you sure you don't have a house beam?
Piccolo: Of course, I don't have a...wait do I?
Kame: Yes, you do.
Piccolo: Why didn't you tell me I could just make a house then this whole time? Freezing my green ass in Yazabitz heights all these years.
Kame: I thought you knew, plus you were kind of a dick until we fused.
@@saphcal I hope that means he'll get a job by opening up "Big Green Threads."
@@Scuffedskeleton2025 It's actually more of a King Piccolo type chair if we want to be pedantic
Having Marin being a secret agent cop was such a spicy twist.
Maron being a dirty secret agent who is also greedy.
Mistress Paige sounds spicy
Of all the bits they were talking about being needlessly cruel, this one was the biggest needlessly cruel owned moment 😂
Kinda saw that from the beginning, even when it was live aired in my country I thought about it. A man can bench press a planet but cant get a girl? Nahh that's a scammer
@@JayceCH. This was probably one of those bits that led to them formulating the big payoff for krillin.
Glad Kaiser brought up people's goldfish memory. All I could think was "remember, these are the people that Hercule managed to convince that powers were all smoke and mirrors"

@@Moonstriker2514 I have the fish of a memory brain
Well that is pure copium for the people because imagine having people that can casually blow up the planet whenever they want to
I have the brain of a memory fish.

Because the Garlic Jr. crew had five members, my head canon has always been that the Garlic Jr. scenes act more as an unspecified flashback explaining Kami's line, "last time I counted five bodies."
But Popo laughed when he said 5. Implying there was more he didn't find
@@lmnisop5516he killed some other people just for the hell of it
@@lmnisop5516 did we ever see jynx again though? lol i forget
@@MrDARKJAKi think it's Dead Zone where Jynx stopped the pause when Popo said he doesn't torture cat
@@toyohimeyeswatatsuki6917it was lord slug. The cutaway gag is that Kami can hear Gohan's whistling and thinks it's Popo torturing cats.
Honestly I had this thing where I took Maron calling Krillin her "sweetie little chestnut" as foreshadowing that she knows who he actually was the whole time. Since the "kuri" in his name means "chestnut".
Tfs secret geniuses or fate being hilarious?
It's probable that was intentional, but Kaiser just forgot about it for this commentary.
@@krbthewitch nothing secret about it
Fellow nerd spotted
Along with moments where she makes puns or plays on words that are just too clever for the airhead personality she's exhibiting. At best, she was doing the Marilyn Monroe/Lucile Ball "very clever, savvy woman playing up a personality archetype" thing. At worst, well, Krillin never stood a chance.
“Wait! Your last name is Sanchez?” Is probably one of my favorite moments of the series. It’s just so ridiculous haha
anyone know why there skipping the dead zone movie?
@@174Anime Same reason they haven't done World's Strongest yet. The first two DBZ movies were originally done before they formed TFS and had different people involved and very different scripts. (Lani and Masako were involved, Kaiser wasn't.)
They eventually remade them years later with the current TFS team, but they didn't do those two movies chronologically compared to the others. They'll talk about them when they get to the point they made them.
@@robbybevard8034 They made the movie after this episode? But this was garlic jr's return. Why would they abridged the original movie after his 2nd appearance?
@@174Anime Because they had already done the movie once as a different team and had no plans to redo it at all. They just did it eventually for completionism.
And its not like they actually did anything with Garlic here, he was only onscreen for like 20 seconds. The entire joke was "no one cares about this character. SKIP."
I think they DID do it before the Kai episode that actually covered the arc, so...
@@robbybevard8034 yes they did.
Garlic Saga Kai just came out as a joke because 1. Season 3 took forever to end and 2. when they finally did finish it and had plans for kai it was like "Oh yeah, we did Garlic Jr technically. Let's make it a whole episode for Kai." as a joke.
"I'm sorry can you speak up, I'm not wearing any pants". I still use that line on Xbox live from time to time and it always gets a laugh
I had NO idea Roshi's voice changed. If anything I assumed it was the VA just getting a bit more comfortable
Nope, literally switched from Goku's VA to Vegeta's. There's probably a joke in there but I'm tired.
Same lol
It was one of the best decisions they ever made. Lani brought out the comedic side of Roshi that works perfectly.
I think both Masako and Lani did fine jobs as Roshi. Oddly, the one scene that sounds really weird to me is Roshi with Bulma watching the Cell Games (specifically, when #16 tries to self-destruct).
@@Sayrdenwhen he's like "why'd ya even take it out in the first place?"
The most hilarious part to me is still the fact that if he *did* go to prison, Krillian would easily be the strongest person there.
The shiv would break on his abs.
Within a day a bald dwarf runs the entire prison, guards included.
krillen could just walk out the front door.
the closed front door.
@@windhelmguard5295 the locked metal front door
Like that one Rob Schneider movie.
Thing is, roshi sounds so roshi in season 3 that no one really paid it any mind when it sounded more like THEIR personal experience of listening to roshi, it just felt so natural that no one really noticed the voice actor change until a rewatch.
I just thought they got a better mic.
I never noticed. Didn't even realize until watching this.
Honestly I had assumed that Vegeta3986 voiced him originally and that was why they needed a new voice in season 3.
@@executable3 i guess that makes sense. people move on and we need fresh faces sometimes either way.
Pretty much. I never paid it much mind and thought maybe whoever had been doing it just changed it to be more in-line with the English dub(s) or something. And tbh, I think it works a LOT better than the original version would have for stuff like World's Strongest
Honestly the slice of life moments in DBZA have some of the funniest jokes
If they did another slice of life spin off similar to HFIL but with other side characters id be so damn happy
@@oopsy444 So the Dragon Shortz.
@@ZeldaEd123 yah but id like a whole series instead of just shorts
@@oopsy444 Admittedly, I have been thinking they might make a series about Krillin and Lazuli's relationship. Considering how much things change for Krillin during the interim between the Cell and Buu Sagas, I'd say there's a lot of room for them to work with from him popping the question to when he and Lazuli have Marron. If they do, I hope they build up to the wedding instead of just jumping straight to the ceremony. There's no way they can resist the urge to have Master Roshi throw Krillin a bachelor party.
Its very nice bcuz u can see they like to write outside the scope of progressing dbz story. Its refreshing
It was always cute in Dragon Ball how Roshi was okay with Krillin living with him.
i mean at that point he was a retired dad who had a kid having to live with him again
plus he was already stuck with Oolong so whats one more
"I'll go blow up the air mattress."
Krillin is basically like a son to Roshi.
Probably really lonely
@@mrroboshadow Do Oolong and Turtle get considered pets? Would you use the word "domesticated" to describe Oolong?

"I am and adul-" "No. No you are not."
And of course the whole interaction between cell and the island denizens when hes looking for 18?? ITS PERFECTTT
I got the feeling it was because 49 is a breather episode where not much happens; Lani probably remembers the writing struggle more than anything
If that’s the episode that I’m thinking about… then the whole cell drooling loudly as he spots 18 and trunks is in his head like “wtf is going on” and the he yells at Krillin “WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU” is one of my favorite moments

The “Bitch is a goldigger” line STILL kills me because I love how gangsta they made Turtle.
He's 999 (1000) years old, he doesn't give a f***. 🤭
Tfw Gohan casually called Krillin by his real name in front of the insurance investigator just seconds after being told to call him Juan.
The story of how Lani got into Dragonball by watching Tree of Might and Garlic Jr. reminds me of the fact that the very first episode of Avatar that I ever watched was The Great Divide.

@@jennyinutil2018 Oh, wow. I'm sorry.

Its not a bad episode by most series standards but it is one of, if not the, weakest episode in all of Avatar The Last Airbender
I love that krillin was afraid of going to jail when no prison on earth could hold him. Also he could probably ask kami to like erase her memories or something.
he's friends with bulma, heiress of capsule corp. he could get a lawyer from her and beat their case. Hell he didn't even really admit to fraud, he actually died and said as much.
@@ishill85 good point.
@@ishill85 he did list a fake beneficiary, which is fraud
@@ishill85 it doesn’t matter how strong you are, even if sending you to jail is impossible, I doubt anyone wants to go through the hell that is “taking someone to court” even with a rich friend, the whole process is a minor inconvenience to krillin, but an inconvenience is an inconvenience
Even if you had an easy out; if you had to choose between getting taken to court vs not getting taken to court, you’re obviously going to prefer one over the other
Ntm the abridged version of bulma, is such a selfish dick, I’m sure krillin knows that going to bulma for money and actually succeed in getting it isn’t exactly guaranteed.
She literally dropped her own boyfriend for the guy that got him killed only a few weeks ago from their perspective
Krillin’s right to doubt her generosity 💀
49 is one of my favorite episodes. Gohan calling Goku a manchild and Cell arguing with the island inhabitants were gold.

I was so ready for the Garlic Jr. Episodes. I still enjoyed all of this, laughing, and wasn't disappointed when it ended the way it did.
They made Garlic Jr into a Kai episode (which actual Kai skipped over funny enough) so I think it worked out in the end
To be fair to past Kaiser, the sudden shift from the romantic sunset colors, to the blue sky in Maron's shots is pretty funny itself. It's like the while illusion of her being a ditz is breaking.
I distinctly remember being about half way through this episode when I wondered "uhhh so are we just not doing garlic Jr?" And that twist blew me away, and I totally forgot about him until the end
For anyone who feels bad for Krillin in this episode, just remember that things will get much better for him in the future.

It’s my comfort show
Nothing is more relatable than "If I could do then what I can do now..."
I felt that in my soul
7:36 The "Sparking!" part of the intro depicts the main antagonist and the climatic showdown, just like the previous and future abridged arcs.
As a french person, I’m honored to have some good references in the show like the « Anus serré » or Sauza.
The funny thing is that if Krillin went to prison, he would rule that place. Seriously, he's the strongest human on Earth!
Saving the World from Pilof was not only a great scene but the ultimate troll power move.
When I first saw the "Fauxpening" I had innocent expectations on whatever you guys wanted to dish out. Garlic Jr. arc was indeed one of the first ever arcs I saw in my life (on Toonami) and was just looking forward to seeing this play out in 'Abridged' form. Once the fake out happened, I realized "oh yeah people don't like this arc... I mean I don't particularly either, so whatever!"

When the end of the episode came I was taken off guard and just laughed at the sheer brilliance of it. Also, I loved the twist with Maron being a government agent. Anyways, can't wait to see the commentary for the next couple of episodes. Vegeta and his pink shirt gag is probably one of the hardest times I've laughed in my life.
I remember watching the opening and first thinking that it was a special and then seeing the opening credits being disappointed that it was Garlic Jr, but ready to roll with it; my enjoyment increased throughout the episode that by the time the finale rolled around and the reveal was complete I was totally onboard.
