I wish Pete's solo work got more recognition. When I went to a SF show from the last Who tour, I talked to a woman who proclaimed herself "the biggest Who fan" even wearing a worn out Who shirt from concert she had been to 20 years earlier. Which is nice and all. But when I brought up 'All The Best Cowboys..' and 'Psychoderelict' her face went completely blank. No recognition whatsoever. How can you be such a huge Who fan and have absolutely no idea about Pete's solo works? It's their loss, missing out on all these Townshend treasures. But I'm always glad to see him getting lots of love on UA-cam.
I remember this broadcast. I too, recorded it. Got that VHS floating around somewhere. I worked at a music store and found this CD in a cut out bin! I was like WHAT???? All good, sold it to a customer buying a copy of Empty glass
I like the part of the post where you call Jay Leno a douche bag, because you are so correct, sir. The fact that American audiences have cozied up to that un-funny self serving ham handed tool for so long is all the proof you need that the corporotacracy's conspiracy to keep Americans dumbed-down, ill-educated and accepting of mediocrity.....has worked!...and continues to. GREAT POST!!!, btw..I loves me some Pete Townsend.
Yeah, this one was pretty lame. But NBC managed to find someone far worse in Fallon. Bizarre that they wouldn't be more discerning with who they hire for an INTERVIEW based program from which they can derive so much revenue.
@@YouzTube99 Nobody noticed how bad they messed up the latter portion of english boy. Fortunately at that time nobody knew how the song went anyway. i remember watching it live and didn't notice myself.
@@mikeoneil1186 Yeah, that did get weird, didn't it? Guessing it was down to PT improvising and the band trying to figure out how to follow him. He is the polar opposite of performers who figure out exactly what they want to do and repeat it for every show. If you listen to any of his live stuff, it's never the same twice -- he's more like a jazz musician.

Well said
Jiggs46 Exactly. Not knowing "Psychoderelict," I could understand, but not knowing "Chinese Eyes?"
In all condor, the older I get I’m more likely to listen to his solo work than The Who. It seems to speak to me more.
@Krystal Lake: Good thing u dint even bring up, imho, his best solo work: “Empty Glass”.
Maybe she was more of a Roger fan. On the plus side you opened up a new world of albums to her.
"English Boy" is a superb tune, I love Pete a genius!
Always loved this song! The longer version on the CD has a nice guitar solo. Great groove song!
Great performance for a late night talk show. This is rare now a days.
This band is etremely tight...and of course Simon Phillips knocking it out of the park as usual.
@anthony22bob:
Oh yeah. When Phillips is laying down the beat, everyone in the band gets better.
I was there!
Perfect !
Soooooooooo great!
Only sold 200,000 copies of this genius cd
I have a copy

Bought the album based on this performance.
Wow this is really good. First time hearing it. Only because I've just gotten around to reading his autobio.
thank U so much for this - Ed McMahon never left !
Great music. Why didn't The WHO stick with Simon Phillip's drumming instead of Zak? Lastly, who is the fantastic harmonica player?
Harmonica player is Peter hope Evans, and i'm ok with you for Simon being better to fix with The Who than Zak
Simon joined Toto…
Wish I didn't think then again glad I do x
This should be called The Chin vs The Nose. :-)
During the interview, they look like a vase.
Good to see PT and Ed McMahon back together again.
"Get up there!" At 8:55, he's commanding himself to hit the note. 😂 Then he laughs and later the female backup singer does too. Pete's pretty funny.
Simon on drums?
Not sure! Pretty sure Pino on bass.
Definitely yes !
Who else? 😊
Rabbitt
FAN - TASTIC!
English girl lol x
Ruth got 60,000 lbs from her plan, but did that include what she earned from her single as Rosilyn? Did Ray release all rights to the song to her?
gets mw all patriotic lol

pete snubs leno with the Africa comment. then watch at very end of clip where leno is clapping standing thier.and pete gives him a dirty look
yogi yogi I never saw the dirty look
Disagree.
Pete Townshend is an all time great. Jay Leno is a total clown
Correct
geeze who mixed this, too much vocal delay, no bump to the drums
Leno might be the worst interviewer ever
