I've done a lot of research on these laptops and personally I find the HP Omen to be a better overall value than the Asus G14. Here is my summary of key positives and negatives of the G14 vs the 2020 HP Omen..... First the negatives of the Asus G14 vs HP OMEN: - No web cam (must use external web cam). Omen has built-in 720p webcam. - No built in SD card slot. Omen has a built in full sized SD card slot. - Poor patchy keyboard lighting makes it difficult to see keys in low light situation. Omen's keyboard lighting is quite good regardless of whether you get the standard white backlighting or the RGB backlighting. - No keyboard RGB lighting on the G14....if you are into that (RGB lighting on Omen keyboard is an option) - No native ethernet port (must purchase additional dongle if you need a wired ethernet connection). Built in Ethernet port on Omen. - Limited Storage expandability (G14 only has 1 SSD slot vs 2 SSD slots for HP Omen) - More expensive memory upgrade to get 32GB - 1 Stick of memory of RAM is soldered on to Motherboard. of G14. So if you want a system with 32GB and full dual channel performance you'll need to purchase a more expensive version of G14 upfront that has 16GB already soldered in and then purchase a second 16GB of RAM. (For the HP OMEN both RAM slots are user upgradeable (not soldered in) ..so you can start off with as little as 8GB RAM and upgrade to 32GB as and when you needed it. - More expensive than HP Omen (The HP is definitely a better value given it is less expensive and has better upgradeability. And this price advantage of the HP Omen becomes even more pronounced if you need 32GB of RAM); - Less screen real estate (Asus has 14" vs Omen's 15.6" screen) - Asus G14 screen has slightly lower refresh rate panel ( 120hz vs 144hz for Omen)......this maybe more important for gamers? - Asus G14 runs noticeably hotter than the HP Omen. My concern here is longevity...heat is probably the number one killer of laptops after water....so it is something to consider if you care about system longevity. Neutrals: - Display panel - The display panel that Ben used for the HP Omen is a 60hz version (as far as I can tell that is not the standard panel for the HP Omen...in fact I could NOT even find a single Omen 2020 for sale with the 60Hz panel). The more standard panel (144hz) that you find on the HP Omen is actually equal to the Asus G14 in terms of color gamut, brightness (300+ nits...327 Nits to be exact) and it has a faster refresh than the G14's panel (120hz vs Omen's 144hz). -- Battery life - The Asus quotes a much higher battery life than the HP Omen but real life testing actually shows that the HP Omen's battery last longer than the G14's. For UA-cam Playback test (at 50% brightness) and keyboard lighting off the HP Omen's battery lasted 8hrs vs the G14's 6hrs and 10minutes. And for gaming the HP Omen's lasted 2hrs vs the G14 lasted 1 hr and 49 mins. For details on the battery testing see Jarrod's Tech video (ua-cam.com/video/63BE6RklUeE/v-deo.html ). The battery comparison can be seen @5:20. Here are the positive for Asus G14: - Better portability....Smaller form factor and lighter (Asus 3.71lbs vs Omens spec'd weight of 5.4lbs...although I should note that several YT reviewers (Jarrod's Tech and Just Josh) who actually weighed the HP Omen 2020 with their own scales showed the Omen only weighed 4.6lbs) - All metal build (Omen has a plastic lid with a lot of flex...but many other reviewers have said they don't see that as a durability concern but only time will tell) - A bit better performance in some benchmarks (likely attributed to the higher performance GPU in the Asus G14); - Ability to charge the G14 via a USB-C charger rather than having to use the larger/heavier included charging brick....so if you have a "high powered" USB-C (e.g., 35 watts )charger you can use it to charge the laptop thus allowing you to carry a lighter USB-C charger if you aren't planning to do heavy workloads. Note: the lighter USB-C charger is not included with the Asus system...it only comes with the barrel pin brick charger. - Speakers on the G14 are extremely good. Loud and very good sound quality. The HP Omen speakers are average for a gaming laptop.
@@KTMLaranjinha I'm not big on the gaming aesthetics, also despite the fact that Helios 300 has a mostly metal build I'd be a bit concerned about long term durability given how they meld the plastic parts together with the metal parts. That said the Helios looks like a good value for Gamers..But what is the long term durability of the system. And how is Acer's support? So with all this in mind I'd chose the HP Omen 2020...but that's just me. Here is a video you may want to look at (ua-cam.com/video/I4Fs5avrY_o/v-deo.html). While it doesn't compare the HP Omen to the Helios 300 it may give you some insights for making your decision.
USB C 65W charger is included in G14 and very compact and lightweight. Also included are ROG strix Impact mouse, ROG laptop sleeve, ROG external webcam How about the keyboard? the G14 has a great keyboard with 1.7mm key travel
@@BikeNangBike It looks like you purchased a special bundle (and presumably paid more for it) as the standard laptop doesn't include a USB-C charger, mouse, and an external webcam. The standard laptop comes with a 180w barrel pin connector that weighs >1lb. Both keyboards are equally good and would fall into the neutral column.

What do you think for 3D modelling like SketchUp and light rendering? I am thinking to get the cheaper Zephyrus (ryzen 7 4800H with Gtx 1650) because it is light for easy travelling and looks more premium.....but worry the specs not enough for 3D modelling...do you think for 3D works we need high GPU?
I’ve had both and decided on the omen. I wanted to love the g14 (maxq 2060) but man it just got way too hot on the chassis and the fan noise was loud although it was the surface heat that bothered me. Understandable since it’s a small laptop. The omen (1660ti) on the other hand was super cool and the screen was faster. It’s a little bigger. If g14 chassis didn’t get so hot and had a camera then it would be the one
The G14 has a CPU Boost mode enabled when you buy it. It drives the temperatures up 20-30C. My chassis is cold to the touch. Look online on how to disable it, you need to edit the registry to unhide the option in Power Plans. You can find it on the G14 Zephyrus subreddit.
Curious what these becnhmarks will do if the omen model with etc 2060 is used. I think the Ryzen really does a wonderful job. Not sure how it will hold up though with rendering in blender or CPU depended render engines
Just an FYI, for anything that uses the 2060, make sure you undervolt/overclock. I get 95-100W equivalent performance on the G14, even though it only has a 65W 2060.
Dear Ben, I am thinking about buying a new laptop for adobe creative suite jobs and because of your reviews I've choosen Asus Zephyrus G14 and Acer Concept D3 Pro (or maybe D5 Pro if Black Friday drops its price). G14 is small and fast (especially with Ryzen 9) so with external monitor it would be not a huge waste that its monitor is not Pantone validated and 100% color accurate. However the Acer Concept products looks very good as well and I love their look and performance (Quadro video cards). So I do not know which one would be better. Please if possible make a face to face review or share with me your thoughts. Thank you! Ys, Adam P.s.: I do not know which one of them is able to use better with external monitor. Furthermore if I would like to close the laptop for which one occures heat problem. If you know what I mean...

Glad I've found your video. I'm thinking of trying a Windows machine again coming from Mac. Seen so many models now. This omen looks really nice for the buck
I am currently using a HP laptop along the Omen line but I personally find Asus build quality to be sturdier and more reliable. I vote for ASUS considering it outperforms laptop twice it's weight. + Style point for ASUS.
@@NomanJohan so you got 2 hp laptops? I don't like gamer style laptops, that's why I like this one much
@@RomboutVersluijs I have 1 HP, 1 ASUS and 1 Superportable Lenovo Yogabook C930.
My next machine will definitely be ASUS Zephyrus G14 or the next iteration of it if it comes out in 2-3 months
@@NomanJohan nice man!
Ben, I am a big fan!! Question: why so many dropped frame rates with the Omen. If I bought the Intel version with the with the 2060, would it solve that problem?
i hope u can read my comment, planning to buy gaming laptop for my son. which gaming laptop u can recommend please please need advice badly
I would Recommend Omen at this price range..
i'm considering the G14 for video editing.
You get used to a 14" screen or feels too small?
Thank you!
Heat mode did you use both models. I've seen quit drastic differences for the omen 15 depending what mode is used.
Curious what these becnhmarks will do if the omen model with etc 2060 is used. I think the Ryzen really does a wonderful job. Not sure how it will hold up though with rendering in blender or CPU depended render engines
Was that playback done fair, I noticed the preview window on the omen was bigger meaning it needs more power
To bad you didn't show the prices. I think that omen model was cheaper than the g14. I think the price is pretty important
Can you do a premium gaming laptop that can also be used as school/business for college and high schools students?
Just an FYI, for anything that uses the 2060, make sure you undervolt/overclock. I get 95-100W equivalent performance on the G14, even though it only has a 65W 2060.
Nice step-up
Please make a video on upgrading display of omen after market
Bro, can you make comparison for MSI Creator 15 & GS66 Stealth ? i am going to buy Creator 15, can you give your precious feedback about Creator 15 ?
Please!!! Those are both on the top of my list.
Thank you! Ys, Adam
P.s.: I do not know which one of them is able to use better with external monitor. Furthermore if I would like to close the laptop for which one occures heat problem. If you know what I mean...
I bought both, but returning the OMEN.. This ASUS Zephyrus is like a lightweight boxer.. nimble quick that knocks out a Heavy weight.. yes the heavy 5.42 LBS OMEN !! Yikes!! Try bringing the OMEN on an airplane? It would cause your carry-on to be overweight! And try to fit it against a seat reclined in front of you? Would anyone REALLY want to travel with it? .. the ASUS 14" Content maker Performances are superior, editing in 4k or 5.7k When you want to edit a video & post and get back to your vacation! The ASUS rocks the house with the RYZEN 9 !! 2060 Max-Q And 1 TB SSD Beautiful screen.. Go purchase an "Excellent" condition right now, for $1000 at Bestbuy.. which has full warranty & Full return policy for Holiday through January 16th.. ..
Which has better performance please tell.
Grateful for your amazing attention to detail and comprehensive testing. Please keep this up. I hope you become one of the top tech reviewers.

zephyrus g14 all the wayy! batterylife and ryzen power efficiency 👌🏽👌🏽
Kenny Zong i heard it throttles? some say it has thermal issues :c
@@aleximylearanton4712 Ah yeah its a slight glitch but can be fixed w some simple steps from redditor tips. Other than that, my g14 goin strong! Use for machine learning /everyday youtube/rts gaming! Highly rec :)
Ok, some constructive criticism. I absolutely love your videos! However, the music you have playing while showing the benchmark just turns me off 😂 that’s really picky I know. Love your work though, been looking for someone like you for awhile!
Is it better in photo/video editing than the m1 macbook pro??
Hi Ben,
Need a comparison between G14 and Aero 15kb, both are 8 core CPU's AMD R9 4900hs and Intel i7 10875h. Please give a comparison between these models both have RTX one has 2060 and another with 2060 maxq. I am totally confused and both are 1080p displays.
Laptop (or) mobile workstation laptop ?? For video editing, photo editing and mechanical softwares like Auto CAD, fusion, solid works...
And what is the difference between them
I have view the youtube of 3d expert their say better use geforce for personal or solo consultant because the cip is same but the price too much different. But mobile workstation (quadro) is for cover 3 percent chance of troubleshooting.

If I am looking at the 1650ti, G15 and R5 1660ti model of omen, which would you recommend to an animator, both 2-D and 3-D and 2-D artist. I really wanted to get the omen but it looked too dull. The 144hz good SRGB omen has no eta for India
yup, as an Indian i chose G14 it forks great...the battery life is insane...!!10 freaking hrs !!
and i dont think u should compromise on the screen as u will always be looking at it.
@@souhardyamalakar6951 ik I also need to take into account performance as I am going to an animation college and seniors recommend 6 gb Vram for 3-D
Kinda baffled there is $400 gap between your affiliate links. How is such a BIG difference possible for the same model? That last one is even more expensive than an i7 etc 2060 ?!?
why are you not doing a side by side comparision?? :(
Plzz include Ryzen 5 also
What about a comparison between the Asus Rog G14 after the registre fix and the cAcer concept D 3 Ezel please
Bro what about concept D3 and ezel laptops? Did they released in india?
I've seen other vids where the omen gets 250-300nits?! Kinda weird right? Website also states 300. Perhaps that's because of the 60hz panel. I don't see that on the site, only 144 or higher
Ah indeed it's the 60hz panel. I've not seen that model anywhere. It's only 144 or 300 Hz I see
Is 32 gigs upgradable means adding another 16gigs or we can add a 32 gigs separately
The chip can handle max 32ram or look at better chip. That what it means
Could you touch a little bit on gaming when you do these comparisons?
This guy looks like Andrew Garfield and woody Harrelson mixed together.
Can either of them charge via type C?

Would you recommend the HP Omen 15 for architecture students? (workflow mainly involving normal university productivity tasks such as word, powerpoint, browsing, as well as heavier tasks such as AutoCad, SketchUp, Photoshop, and maybe later on Maya and Rhino). I'm mainly concerned if this laptop will work for a university lifestyle due to portability, battery life, and whether that screen flex will start to damage the screen after being in a heavy backpack for too long. Thoughts? Thanks!
Yes, I would. However you will get slightly better performance with a more powerful gpu, like the RTX 2060 rather than the 1660 Ti.

Can run rust at max settings 60+ fps easy
With the 1660ti model
Trust me, hp omen is cheap now but same spec with g14
Compare all Ryzen Laptops please
I just finished benchmarking the Nitro 5 with the Ryzen 5 4600H, so now that I have all the data in that video will be coming soon-ish. :)
The G14 slaps my almost 4 years old 17" Omen. I recently bought one because of the performance, but also because it doesn't weigh almost _9lbs_ w/ brick like my Omen.
I like the video, just a feedback, please talk little bit slower...:)
