I had 10 of the original 16. Played with them for hours. Held on to them for many years as well as my collection of Corgi and Matchbox cars. I had a son twenty years later and I gave them to him to play with then when he was done with them I sold them all for a nice price
Beautiful collection of the 'Sweet 16' cars. My first redline was a blue Custom Camaro. My favorite redline is the Custom Barracuda and the Police/Fire Chief '68 Plymouth Fury. My dad drove a '68 Fury ll sedan, and that car turned me into a Mopar fan. Good times in the '60s.
I'm a toy car collector from 1968 today 2018 I have 3,500 pieces in my collection I play with them now on my hotwheels race track from mattel nice to see you on houtube
Not during the early years. They do make that model more recently. My favorite one is the Hot Wheels 1968 Olds 442 from the 27th Annual Hot Wheels Convention.
Good job, you made me eyes tear up. I remember going to a store called Fed Co (Target is there now at Rodeo & La Cienega) in LA. As soon as we entered the store I’d say “I’m going to the toys!” I had about 300 cars then. Plus, I remember my silver Boss Hoss coming in the mail while I was at school. Playa del Rey Elementary in LA.
That is an excellent idea! Start planning your display now! And watch sold values on my site and on ebay. Also check out colors at RedlineCollector.com
my dad bought me every hot wheels car from 68-75 those were his favorite years he gave them to me and my favorite car out of all is sweet 16 lime deora. Even if your old hot wheels makes you feel like a kid again.
@@toycarcollector The only Hot Wheel from my youth that I still have is a Mebeytoys Gran Toros Ferrari that my parents brought back from Italy for me. Over the years I have bought some of the ones I had, I found a Gold Deora in beautiful condition that made me very happy to have again. I have looked at your sales and almost bought a couple, but not yet. Green Hot Heap, Red Mustang, are two that I would love to have again.
Yeah, have a real problem texting on these phones. Originally was saying I have quite a few of the original store display from 68. But it's good to see your videos and it's good to hear from you keep up the great work
I have the voltzwagon from my grandpa from when he was a kid it is worn out green with the slots where the surf boards go but I don't have the surf boards. I love it because it's better than the newer hot wheels.
In '69, I was eight and had the Wheel Carry, a barrel full of orange track and of course, a Super Charger...! Had every one of those '68 cars with the addition of a Police Paddy Wagon!
I have 160 redlines including all 16. 7 of wich inbox and have over 70 in boxes un opened and all others are mint to. Been trading buying selling colleting for 25 years since my dad left me about 40 of them from his childhood, never stopped collecting
As a set in mint condition loose. You would get something between $3000 and $5000 at ebay auction. Maybe higher, just depends on a few other things. Were the USA or Hong Kong made? What colours were they?
I still have six of the original 16 from ‘68 plus several more up to ‘73 and the original carry case. Beatnik Bandit, Silouette, Fleetwood, custom Firebird (red), custom Eldorado, Ford J Car.
I remember in 1968 my family driving almost an hour to San Bernadino to go to Sears on a shopping trip, and my priority was to get a HotWheels car like my friends all had. I didnt know anything about cars so I had no idea which one to get and i stood there brainlocked unable to decide. Finally my parents said we were leaving and i grabbed a Cougar, probably the least cool car of the bunch (which this video doesnt even call out). I think i still have the car somewhere buried in a box of stuff.
I always use to buy those when I was young in the Early 90s I always found them in thrift stores in the little bundle see through bags for like 2 3$ dollars😃 I always bought them even the bigger metal cars from other brands always at the thrift stores had the best used but rare good cars
Condition is everything. Beatnik Bandits were made in huge amounts, and they are not the most popular. A beater that needs rebuilt will be lucky to get $5. One with just a couple chips, clear glass, and rolling but not perfect wheels, maybe $25-30.
The cars in this video are not for sale. Putting together a set of the first 16 Hot Wheels in either USA or Hong Kong models is very difficult. Each car comes in up to 20 colors, various interior colors and then 1,000 different conditions. I've seen a set of 16 sell on ebay for as little as $500 for very worn models and on the other end the sky is the limit. Each model had at least one mega rare color combination. Such as the Deora in Blue and the Beatnik Bandit in Hot Pink.
I used have all of them. Played with them outside in the sand pit in the back yard. Haven't a clue what eventually happened to them. I guess I grew up. Can't see the fascination with them today.
Not everyone is in to old hot wheels. I would same the same thing about major league sports. For the life of me why anyone would want to watch millionaires play children's games is a mystery to me. Sports cards? Really guys collect photos of other guys, eeeeuuuu weird! Early Hot Wheels are rare and beautiful and becoming more rare everyday. Thanks!
I agree with you 100% on the sports cards and pro sports. I have a record collection but I listen to them just about every day. I just can't imagine paying $$$$$ for a kid\s toy.from 1968 No offense. But . It was cool looking at them though..
@@iananderson7883 I have a blue american cougar. I played with it. The memories are priceless. It s beautiful because of the scratches and damages done to it in 1968.
My dad has a yellow car that looks like that hot pink one although my dads has lost most of the paint and the one with the surf boards i have with artwork on the sides
Best bet is Ebay. Sell them individually to get the most money. Check completed sales to get an idea of beginning price. I've been selling and buying on Ebay for over 20 years.
It was a Ford "J" car. It was a design that turned into the Ford GT Mk IV after wind tunnel work. The "J" was the car that Ken Miles was killed in during testing. The car in the movie didn't look anything like it.
I have those and some where made in Hong Kong and some in the USA, you could tell the difference when you compare a USA version and a Hong Kong version, the Hong Kong version had more detailed chassis and bodies. But the USA versions I think brings more value to the table. I have some of both, USA and Hong Kong versions.
I loved the video!! But I noticed that you only described 14 of the 16 cars. You passed over the two cars after the olive colored custom Corvette (in position #4) of the lineup.
Anyone remember the clamp onto windows sills and slide the orange track over the clamp place the car on it and let her ride to the floor. Ah those days were awesome. Wouldn't trade those toys 4 today's junk. Today's toys are cell phones. Kids 2day can't get off the couch.

These are 1968 mode year cars so it does not matter when they were made they will always be 68's. There are however some variations to some of the cars that make them earlier produced than others. There are first run details on many of the 16, but they were left off in later runs that were still made in 1968. Many of the original 16 were made in 1969 also, and some made until 1971. But there is no real way to tell which year they were built because changes were whenever they were made, not by year. There were also late changes, such as added doorlines, louvered windows on the Mustang, etc.

Wasn't the 57 T-bird one of the original 16 ?
The 57 is a 69 model so it could be called one of the "next 24".
In '69, I was eight and had the Wheel Carry, a barrel full of orange track and of course, a Super Charger...! Had every one of those '68 cars with the addition of a Police Paddy Wagon!
I’m a nut about redline HW and LEGO from the period. I combined the 2 loves in a model of the Paddy Wagon made out of Lego I recently featured.

Man, I had everyone of those in '68 plus that same case. I could only imagine if I'd saved them and didn't play with what they'd be worth today.

Those are the newer classic re-releases. I can tell by the undersides
Also, the Deora was also my first and I believe I received it contained within the Strip Action race track.
I recently picked up a Batmobile (2021 release) that is unpainted bare metal... not sure if it is a error car or not...

The Python was actually called the Cheetah in 1968. I remember noticing a name change. It was my favorite Hot Wheel.
Yes for a minute and then it was changed. About 10 sample models were made with the name Cheetah stamped on the base. Super rare item then and now.
The original name was the Car Craft Dream Rod. It was designed by input from the readers of the magazine. There was an MPC model kit of it.
I had the purple Silhouette and the red Beatnik Bandit.
