@@Bird_b0nes also youre thinking of ‘photo realism’ which focuses on creating the most realistic type of drawing. but realism mostly focuses on following the rules of nature, or creating an accurate depiction of something.
About what you said, regarding the people that tell you you're weird because you usually paint yourself... Well, you don't make art for other people, do you? The case is probably that you make art first of all because it makes you happy and gives you satisfaction. Changing how you express your inner self and what helps you tackle your insecurities just because people don't understand it, would be unfair, to your beautiful work and of course to yourself. We don't have to make art everyone will understand, and not everyone will understand everything we'll make. Maybe most of the things we'll make. Art can get complicated, and personal. And that's totally ok. What matters is staying true to yourself despite the craziness that exists out there. Hope you feel less alone in this now. ❤️
thank you so so so much, you have no idea how much I appreciate this. i get a little too caught up on what others think sometimes but this really helped me :)
Yeee totally agreed! It's allways nice to get criticism, but not rude comments like that, that you're weird for painting what you paint, you can paint whatever you want and makes you feel good😊✨
@@victorianilsen9475 Imo criticism is unnecessary unless the person asked for it, especially in this case bc who do ppl think they are to tell artists what their art should and shouldn’t be about, right? Lol
The only thing that is insane is how talented you are. And at your young age? With your whole future ahead of you? You must not know how remarkable you are. You're amazing. Thank you for sharing your process.
You are an absolutely amazing artist, I agree it’s definitely difficult to create “original art”. If i’m being totally honest, your art really heavily inspires me to continue working towards my personal artistic goals. The art that you create takes so much skill and patience, I’m so envious.
Don't ever be ashamed if someone's art inspired you whether you realize it or not! Art is a reflection of you and the things you care about and if a snip of another artist comes through that you like, it is still a reflection of you because they inspired you! Also, amazing painting thanks for sharing it!
I think the main detail that reminds everyone of Caravaggio or renaissance style paintings in general is definitely the dramatic effect caused by the high contrast (almost looks unnatural because of how dark the background is but the subject is painted in such a highly realistic style. It becomes hard to imagine where exactly the light is coming from and what kind of room or space the subject is located). Been following the progress on this painting for a while and am astonished at the result. This is amazing!!
So crazy that even the most talented people are insecure. I love your work and your style, and I love the fact that you use your own image to convey the message/concept you aim for with your paitings, being that art is a expression of ourselves in many way, so I find you very brave. To be so talented and inspirational at such a young age is really no small feat. Be prouddddd :)
Your rendering is to DIE for. Saw the final painting on social media so stumbling onto your channel was a pleasant surprise. Great work and I hope receive a lot of success!
Hi Camila! This is my first time watching one of your videos, and wow! Firstly, I’m blown away by your talent. Secondly, what you’re saying about painting self-portraits really brought back a lot of memories from my time in high school doing AP art and later in college. I also paint mostly self-portraits, and that was my concentration for AP, and I would also get a lot of questions about why I painted so many of them all the time. I’d get a lot of comments like “Oh, you must really like yourself, huh!” when that was absolutely not the case at all. I was and still am very self conscious not only of my work but of myself, and like you stated, creating work based around yourself is almost a way to get past that anxiety. Another thing is: we know our own faces better than anyone else’s; we spend a lot of time looking at ourselves whether we like to admit it or not, and this allows us to complete self-portraits more easily on a technical level (though emotionally… that’s a different story). This trend continued while I was in college getting my BFA and most of my critiques were “It’s really good, but can’t you do anything else?” and unfortunately I really let those comments get to me. I just wanted to let you know how extremely talented you are and how impressed I am that you can accomplish such a high level artistically both technically and conceptually at such a young age. I hope that as you continue down this road you stay true to yourself and your work and that you take in other people’s critiques and questions but to know when someone says something that doesn’t serve you-I personally wasted a lot of time doing my art thinking about other people, and that ended up being a huge detriment to my development. You seem to be on the perfect track for you and I am excited to see you grow in the future!
thanks so much for taking the time to write all of this out, you genuinely have no idea how much I appreciate this! im so glad im not the only one getting those comments, i understand where they are coming from but sometimes they can be a little rude. thanks for all of the advice and for the love :)
I feel like you had a bit of a breakthrough with your art on this one! It's so much more realistic and satisfying than your other work, which was already impressive. Great work
I think it's so cool that you paint self portraits. I personally could never, seeing myself for hours, dissecting every piece of myself. I think it's so admirable that you draw yourself in such a meaningful way. All of your pieces feel so personal and the fact that it's your own self makes them even more personal. Keep up the great work
everything about this video beautiful. it’s a realistic and honest process that goes unnoticed to everyone except for the painter, i am so glad you captured all of this. amazing work as well, although as you stated the meaning was abstract, i like that the painting means a different thing to everyone even though it’s not them and rather you. very proud of you even though i just found this through twitter
drawing self-portraits really helps me with my insecurities as well! i think it just really makes me see for who i really am, how i am, and not how i should be. seeing all the quirky, unique about yourself and etc, really helps with coming to terms with and accepting yourself :)
One of the best pieces of advice I ever got from my drawing and painting professors was to take a step back whenever you get the chance, and to flip things upside down if something looks off. Humans are really great with pattern recognition, but if you’re staring at something for long enough you’ll go blind to things like proportion and skewed perspectives that can happen every now and then. Flipping your canvas upside down helps so so much to make those inconsistencies stand out almost immediately! Great work, I’ll happily be subscribing and look forward to the rest of the work you create!
This was an amazing video to find in my recommended!! I saw your painting on twitter when you first posted it, and thought "Wow, what a masterpiece. Some people just have an incredible vision." I never would have known what went into the painting if you hadn't made this, so I'm grateful to you for sharing and I'm glad I watched it. It's so easy to put other artists on a pedestal (I certainly did for your painting), but they probably dealt with their own insecurities too! I'm so glad you're proud of the result, because it's truly something amazing.
This is beyond incredible, I have a feeling your name will be very well known and likely referenced in the future! Your concepts are so cool, your use of colours and lights and shadows are beyond my comprehension, then you absolutely nail the result! You should be proud of yourself; not only for the art you produce, but the thought process, dedication, and the courage to face something so vulnerable and put it out there on the internet. Just... Amazing. I'm blown away.
Abstract art is the best art. It allows many to create their own interpretations of a piece, creating questions like “is everything else in the world fake like the flowers”
Caravaggio is my favorite artist of all time. It DOES kinda remind me of his work too! The black background and the realism and the serious facial expression. Very Renaissance! And it's gorgeous! Probably my favorite of yours!
This is STUNNING OMGGG, the way it looks like a stage light in a renaissance way really is in tune with your incorporated theme of fake flowers, like a spotlight

i saw a picture of this painting on twitter the other day and now this video showed up in my feed! i took a painting class last semester and had a great time learning how to paint. i loved watching your technique and process. i’m amazed at how beautiful this painting is and how fast you made it! great job!!
Hi, Camilla! I recently found your account. I wanted to say that I am absolutely amazed by your art. I also wanted to say that art is a form of expressing yourself which should not be influenced by the other peoples' wishes. Your self portraits are fabulous! I am in love in them! Coming from an artist to an artist ❤️
I saw this piece on Twitter and I am THRILLED that UA-cam led me to your video! I fell in love with it when I saw it and I’m so glad I get to see your process and hear your thoughts on this piece. You mention a few times about how how it’s a simple composition but sometimes less is more and in this case the simplicity works in the paintings favor I will be shocked if your painting isn’t talked about in art history text books, it’s really something special. Thank you for making it and sharing it with everyone!! 💖
I totally see the Caravaggio connection. He's especially known for Tenebrism which is a dramatic chiaroscuro technique. It can also be described as a sort of "spotlight" effect which I can see a softer version in yours too, like the highlights in the hair and sweater, which I love! Especially the little hair whispies detail you have. And the pixel bouquet reminds me of the painting "Bouquet of Flowers in a Vase" by Courbet but in a contemporary context, which I think is cool. The pixelation also reminds me of our connection to the digital world that many of us internet people can relate to (and maybe that some, if not many, of our relationships are virtual) especially us here being on UA-cam (and TikTok and IG and whathaveyou). With that said, I'm a fan! Keep doing what you're doing, girl! I think you're onto something that is definitely worth showing!
Girl you’re incredibly gifted and this is coming from someone who at 3 am is up painting portraits.😕 People aren’t just saying that. I wish I wasn’t blindsided by life when I was your age because art is my life! And I love that you do self portraits. The pixelated bouquet- brilliant! And all stages looked like you.😉
I really love comments like 'I like your painting but I don't know what does it mean' 😁 Art is saying story itself, no need any extra artist explaining - everyone will find out there what they want to see and that's really amazing thing, one piece with tousands stories behind ^^ you are just amazing and so so talented - you're smash it girl xxx
Im late to this, but I want to say I love all your self portraits. Im incredibly insecure as well and I often take selfies of myself (like A LOT of selfies). I feel like its kind of a similar to making self portaits, where you kind of allow yourself to look at your face more and more so you get used to it and grow to appreciate how it does pook pretty. Also I love your self portraits because not only do you paint beautifully but you are also so very pretty and expressive. Everytime I look at your painted face I feel so drawn into your expression and the feeling behind it. I cant even express how much I love it!
OMFG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. ITS SO GOOD. ITS SO SO GOOD. the influences of caravarggio, kristoffer zetterstrand, minecraft. and your idea of receiving fake compliments is lovely especially with the cold, desaturated look in your face. it looks so posed and youre ready to be appreciated, if that makes sense. idk i just love it. and your technique and details are so good too i just love it thanks for the video
I saw the painting on twitter and I genuinely gasped in astonishment. Its SO GOOD. LORD that hair and face and SWEATER- The details and brush strokes were so mesmerizing to observe. Made me want to pick up a brush and start painting
I thought the same. The chiaroscuro effect of the pool of light over head, the attitude of the eyes and slight downward tilt of the head. How the skin glows out from the darkness. Beluev people when they are positive about your work because there are plenty who won't be.
amazing work! i remember seeing this piece circulate on twitter so it's super dope to see youtube recommend this video to me! don't be so hard on yourself! you tied in your idea and theme perfectly - super creative and it was awesome to see the process!
This is absolutely beautiful! The hair... THE HAIR. The little strands falling over the shoulder. AGH. I love. Also, as a fellow Insecure, don't worry about drawing yourself. I find it almost physically impossible to draw myself because of my own insecurities. I'm glad to see someone can do it, it gives me inspiration
Omg you bringing up AP art brought back mini ptsd of my AP art submissions years back. I too had to present a "growth in my concept" through my artwork and honestly I just submitted what I liked at the time and hoped they would find a "concept" through them. I believe I got a 3/5 score, and in the end none of that mattered (i went into game dev as an artist) so all of that stress and pressure was kinda moot in the end. After going to art college and getting into my career, I realized that everyone's idea of what art is, is super subjective. I was taught in college to do art a specific way and only that way (so things like drawing anime would net you an eternal place in hell lol) and that really messed with my self confidence and how I felt about my art. Now, I see that there's always a place and audience for any type and style of art, so strictly following a preconceived set of expectations/guidelines is just narrow minded and restricting when it comes to creativity and exploration. As everyone has already mentioned before it, art for yourself and not for others. Who cares what the AP judges will think, your art is gorgeous and I hope you continue doing self portraits down the line because I always find those the most interesting and most insightful into the artist themselves. Don't let your growth as an artist be hindered by these archaic rules or others' expectations because in the end all that matters is that you enjoyed the process and equally enjoy the end piece.
When I saw your UA-cam thumbnail, the painting was just so great that for like 5 minutes I just kept looking at the thumbnail feeling very dumb cuz I was wondering if this was really a painting or a picture. I think the fact that I struggled to know whether it was or not really shows that you're talented. In the end I just couldn't guess and had to click on the video to see for myself, and I didn't regret a single second cuz it was a great video too ! Keep going giiiiirl 😉
I literally LOVE every single one of your pieces and you have inspired me to buy myself some new paints. You have a very creative mind and I also love the meanings behind your paintings. I wish I had some friends like you
Fellow painter, Im curious about what ur own black paint would do for ur work? (I think it’d add to it since you can get a more complex colour effect) also slay for getting golden paint finally so worth the splurge on the good quality paint
i dont usually use black in my works, i usually mix the primary colors together for dark colors. for the background in this piece though i didn't have the right colors to get it dark enough, so i used black and some red for it!! i need to learn more about color still though 😭
I’ve been following you on Instagram/TikTok for a while and randomly saw this on my feed. I’ve always loved your paintings and your skill level!! Keep working hard and keep painting what seems fun for you !!
yo i used to be a active but very active artist, and i stopped for 2 years, looking at the youth art is making me feel jealous! im going to start painting again GRRRR!
You literally seem so funny and nice to be around! I cannot fathom how you can create hyper realistic art like this, and I love the concepts of your art too!! You are so talented, don’t let others tell you otherwise!!! :D
As a fellow artist myself I can assure that your self portraits are real masterpieces 🙌🏼 and I really mean it! I wish I had these amazing painting skills. I know how hard it is to receive compliments, because somehow most artists feel like their own work is trash no matter how excellent it actually is 😂

Something about this painting is just giving beautiful. Like idk what it but the piece is beautiful. The flowers, the portrait, the details🤌🤌🤌 beautiful ✨
i saw a picture of this painting on twitter the other day and now this video showed up in my feed! i took a painting class last semester and had a great time learning how to paint. i loved watching your technique and process. i’m amazed at how beautiful this painting is and how fast you made it! great job!!
Really love the light and shadow and softness that you captured on your face in the painting! Beautiful work!
thank you so so much!!
this vlog reminds me of joanna ceddia's old videos :) ty for the nostalgia and now u have a new subscriber
Girl, you’re already on the level of super famous artists. Your art is mind boggling. I wish I could do stuff like that.
You mention a few times about how how it’s a simple composition but sometimes less is more and in this case the simplicity works in the paintings favor
I will be shocked if your painting isn’t talked about in art history text books, it’s really something special. Thank you for making it and sharing it with everyone!! 💖
I can't emphasize enough how good your art is.
Nah the concept makes loads of sense I love it
I actually really love that you always paint yourself…it inspires me so much.
I saw the painting on twitter and I genuinely gasped in astonishment. Its SO GOOD. LORD that hair and face and SWEATER- The details and brush strokes were so mesmerizing to observe. Made me want to pick up a brush and start painting
This is genuinely one of my favorite paintings I have ever seen, of all time. Amazing work.
I love the feel of this painting! Your hair in this speaks volumes ❤ And the pixel flowers are make me smile.
Prob one of the better art UA-camrs there days
hii i just saw ur channel the other day and like i love ur paintings and really inspired me to keep painting , ur really amazing at it keep it up
I saw you go viral on every platform for this painting, I'm glad I've come full circle and a whole actual video! God this looks amazing!!!
you're reviving my interest in traditional art
This is absolutely beautiful! The hair... THE HAIR. The little strands falling over the shoulder. AGH. I love.
Also, as a fellow Insecure, don't worry about drawing yourself. I find it almost physically impossible to draw myself because of my own insecurities. I'm glad to see someone can do it, it gives me inspiration
For me idk why but I was able to get a sense of the concept right away. Probably cause I can relate on a level. It looks amazing!
all your paintings are amazing 😭 i’m always looking forward to your videos :)
I actually love that you are painting tourself!😍 If I could I would🥵 Your artwork are soo good, keep going you got this!!
THE WAY YOU DO THE HAIR MAKES IT LOOKS SO REAL‼️‼️‼️‼️
It turned out gorgeous, it looks just so stunning and kinda dramatic, like, it's really giving renaissanse
yo i used to be a active but very active artist, and i stopped for 2 years, looking at the youth art is making me feel jealous! im going to start painting again GRRRR!
WHAAAAAT THIS LOOKS SO REAL OMG IM IN AWEEEEE THIS IS SIMPLY PERFECT!!! ADMIRING U SM RNNNN
The editing and your funny personality make the videos 10 times better 😭 I wanna sketch some drawings now after watching
Idk why but this gives me mona Lisa vibes in the best way 🎉💐 Don't listen to the haters, you are a big inspiration!!
Sooo beautiful!!!
I know how hard it is to receive compliments, because somehow most artists feel like their own work is trash no matter how excellent it actually is 😂
I love watching u while painting, u rly keep me motivated. Ur painting turned out so good btw
So inspiring friend! Seriously! Thanks for all the work you put into this video!
genuinely i would like. buy that painting
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.
