Truth is, Koreans claim to not like Japan... yet they secretly try to be Japanese.
The running joke internationally is that Korea is Japan "Light". No disrespect but that's how Many MANY people from foreign countries see it.
They clearly still have a anger + shame toward Japan. --- Personally, I believe we can and SHOULD put differences aside, realize that "wartime" is war time and that crazy things happen during war. Which is why we should try our very best to never go into war again. We are evolved and more mature and should be able to work things out in a much more diplomatic way that both sides can both feel a bit of satisfaction and sacrifice.
I noticed that Filipino people tend to just forgive and forget easily. It's kind of their nature. It may be good and bad. Koreans on the other hand have a very high pride and don't forget easily.
It's just my observation in my travels and amongst my friends.

The term "Tagay" is actually in reference to one's tun on the shot glass in a "Tagayan" (peer drinking session) where only one shot glass is used and passed around for turns. It is done so in the spirit of friendship, brotherhood or camaraderie. The session circle is usually among friends or relatives, and very rarely among people where they dont know much about each other. When a newcomer is nvited into the "Tagayan" circle, it is usually an indication that your presence is being welcomed. It would be very disrespectful and offensive to snub such a welcome or to not address it. If you have a valid excuse to turn down the invitation, you can humbly say so and verbally appreciate the fact that you are being invited. If you intend to take a shot or two, say beforehand why you can only stay for a short while. And when it's time for you to go, be grateful for the invite and the shots. That way, you're not a hit&run kind of guy.
