  • In this video I demonstrate how I make oatmeal in the Oster rice cooker. It cooks it perfectly with NO sticking to the pot. I use Bob's Red Mill old-fashioned oats. Here is the recipe, per serving:
    1 cup water
    1/3 cup Bob's Red Mill Rolled Oats (Old fashioned or quick cooking)
    pinch of salt
    1/4 cup toasted walnuts (pecans or slivered almonds also work well)
    1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins
    2 T. diced, dried apricots
    Put all ingredients into the cooking pot of the rice cooker. Put on the lid and press the switch to cook cycle. When switch clicks over to the keep warm cycle, oatmeal is done. Stir before serving.

    I forgot to mention in the video that this can easily be set up the night before to have ready for breakfast in the morning. Just add all the ingredients except the water, to the cooking pot. In the morning, add the water and start the cooking while you're getting ready. No babysitting a pot on the stove! :-D

    Excellent video! I was on the fence about buying this rice cooker because I eat more barley, farro, and oats. This review showed me I can cook my favorite grains. Thanks!

      It is a nice little rice cooker and does a great job. However, just an FYI, Oster redesigned this model and it no longer has the DuraCeramic coating. The new version has a Teflon coating called DiamondForce. You might find several of the older ceramic model on ebay (used) if ceramic is what you'd rather cook with.

    This is wonderful. I just made a bunch for family on Sunday morning instead of bacon and etc feast. (Maybe 1 a month!)
    Added apples, unfiltered honey and ground cinnamon. So yummy!

      I love oatmeal and this makes it so much easier to prepare! We have smoothies every day for breakfast except on Fridays. I set up the pot the night before with everything except the liquids. Then in the morning I just have to add the water and press the button. Thanks for watching! :)

      I love oatmeal too! It's so easy to make in the rice cooker. I like to add other ingredients too like in the video. I also recently started added grated zucchini to my oatmeal to get some veggies in it. It's very mild so it doesn't taste like anything really. But it adds more texture, fiber and vitamin C. :)

      I haven't yet but will give it a try once the weather cools down. It has been very hot and humid here for 6+ weeks! I love summer and hate that it's so short in the Midwest but eating hot cereal is less desirable at the moment. :D Yes, BRM is my #1 go-to for all things grains and oatmeal. Did you know that they toast the oatmeal before packaging? That's why it smells and tastes soooo good! :) Thanks for watching!

      @@richhines7452 Agreed. It's funny, when I open a box of oatmeal of any other brand, it has no aroma, maybe a little bit like the cardboard it's in. :D I've been using BRM's oatmeal for a very long time. LOL!

    If I’m going to make one cup of rice how much water do I need is it a cup and a half(oyster)

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  5 років тому

      The amount of water added depends on the type of rice you are cooking the general rule is 1 to 1 (1 cup rice to 1 cup water). However, the cooking pot of the rice cooker has markings inside the pot that tells you how much water you need to add. So if you add 3 rice-cooker cups of rice, you fill the water to the 3 line inside the pot. There is a chart with measurements included in the owners manual. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! :)

    For how long you can store oats when they are cooked? Do you store oats in fridge? And how you reheat oats?, in microwave?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  Рік тому +1

      If I have leftover cooked oats, I store them in the fridge for no more than a few days. To reheat I use the microwave at 30 second bursts until hot.

    Each time I make oatmeal (steel cut) with mine, it boils over like a volcano and makes a huge mess. This happens making even a single portion with one cup of water and 1/3 cup of oats. It’s quite a disaster. Think we need a better cooker.

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  4 роки тому +1

      Rice will boil over if it's not rinsed before cooking. I wonder if rinsing the steel cut oats would help when cooked in the rice cooker? I'm going to experiment with mine to see what happens. Thanks for watching and for commenting. :)

    Does it come with a time setting? Because I tend to forget and I when I notice things get burn.

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  4 роки тому

      No this model does not have a timer with sound. It will automatically switch over to the keep warm setting when the cooking cycle is done. You will need to set a timer or use your smartphone to time it to let you know when it's done.
