This is giving me flashbacks to those long road trips across the Country where my sister would insist the entire family listened to Spice Girls for hours.
The Spice Girls really WERE normal people. That's a major reason they did so well, because they were so normal. That level of "normal" was unusual even for the UK! Somebody tried to manufacture them, but they didn't like the prospective manager so they gave him the slip and got somebody else. Victoria (Posh Spice, now Victoria Beckham), was very business-savvy even back then, nobody was going to get away with ripping the girls off with her there. Even the video is pretty much an extended pitch reel. That's what they did when they were pitching themselves to find representation/record labels. Mel C would jump on the table and do backflips, Victoria would be slightly standoffish, Emma being cute and bubbly, etc. - their characters were pretty good representations of who they really were.
My daughter played this nonstop the year it came out. She finally snapped out of it so my wife bought her a karaoke machine so I could listen to my daughter sing it (amplified) for another year. This was a funny reaction. Lex is rockin out and Brad looks like he’s trying to hold down his cornflakes.
