While I love to watch woodworking videos to gather know-how to make my own projects, I don't have any ambition to make anything from clay. But I love the vibe of your videos and they take me back to my aunts workshop, where I watched her make all sorts of ceramics and experiments with glaze. She did teach me some of the basic back then, so I think I can appreciate a bit of your skills. But for the most part, I just love your meditative narration and love of the craft
Hello from Japan. Always a wonderful experience watching you and learning about your techniques. One item I wish to mention is that, BEFORE making the holes for the "tea-strainer" where the spout will go, I press the "holey area" inward slightly. This helps to keep the tea leaves from bunching up as the pot is poured. Anyway, thank you!
I am a professional trumpet player and sometimes, when I have trouble beginning my practice for the day, I watch a video to find inspiration. Usually that video is a concert or masterclass. Today it was your video, and it worked brilliantly! You're a gem, Florian!
I’m so envious of your attention to detail throughout the process. As someone who generally creates individual pieces that are slab built, I am in awe of your patience and dedication to your art. Truly beautiful pots. Also the time you take to explain your steps it a very generous thing to do as you are sharing your knowledge with those who want to learn. There are so many videos out there that show processes without any form of narration so that people know why things are done the way they are. Great work!
Why not get into it, I took 4 classes for 50 bucks in all at a local pottery place, bought a cheap wheel, and got into it for under 150 bucks in all, its a really rewarding hobby, I scored a kiln + shelves + Everything else + 2 bins of pottery tools for $300- Haha there are some good deals out there
@@martinpanev6651 just happened to me :D I thought a kiln was definitely out of reach. Now I have two - old oil barrel and weed burner raku kiln and a very old small home friendly electrical kiln that needs rework on the electrical side - it has a broken kilnsitter fitted, but can be fired full manual with a thermocouple stuck in the peep hole :D Haven't worked myself up to teapot yet tho :D. I need to get half a clue about glazing first, I think.
I could watch and listen to you for hours. Its not only educational, intelligently presented, but calming to the soul. Your meticulous detail and work ethic draws me in as much as your intonation is relaxing. Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos as they have become part of my weekly devotion as I contemplate the Master potter who forms us into his own vessels of clay. Blessings to you!
machine shop levels of precision, calipers and all. bravo indeed good sir, truly keeping the ancient skills alive. the tilers and potters of ancient times are smiling down on you from above.
Thanks so much Josh, precision is my thing, maybe a little too much sometimes.. thanks for taking the time to watch and I appreciate the kind words immensely.
@@floriangadsby you would be welcome to micrometer measure any of the parts batches i go through at work, ill pay you out of my salary to so my quality checks hahaha
I'm so glad I found this channel. You have such a soothing manner, but the information you present is always interesting and helpful, while still being a joy to watch. I was meant to be midway through my second pottery course by now, but covid had other ideas, so your videos bring back some of that feeling I've been missing!
Doesn’t matter if it is a long video... do not worry.. it is so mesmerising to watch those beautiful pieces coming together, that I watch your videos without skipping any part. And I have watched many of your videos 3-4 times repeatedly by now.. again and again after a gap of few days. It never gets boring. Also, I love your unique designs.
Your videos are so peaceful to watch! I’m not sure when I’ll ever get around to actually making anything out of clay, but I love watching your videos when I’m trying to unwind-your narration is really soothing, and the videos are just really calming.
So happy to hear that. Thanks for taking the time to watch, it really means so much. Hopefully one day you'll get to make something, it's a wonderful craft and very addictive.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I have just started throwing pots and your videos have really helped me understand the what's and the how's. Love your work, artistry & perfectionism, such skill
Gorgeous, such a joy to watch! I’m studying for a degree in Art and Design and learning ceramics as part of that and I just can’t get enough of it, it’s just the best to go from a lump of mud to a finished piece.
Watching your videos satisfies something deep inside. You've got such a peaceful manner in your narration. I work in a tea shop and the bottom of pots is something I never paid much attention to till my all to brief dip into ceramics. Now it's a major point I mention to people! Thank you for posting such a great in depth video!
I dont know about you guys, but i held my breath anxiously while he pulled the handle attached to the teapot! I wa sure it was going to dettach lol you're so talented!
Thank you so much for these videos! Not only are they so soothing to watch, but so helpful and informative! I’ve been taking beginner pottery classes for two years and I learn so much from watching your videos. 🥰
So pleased you thought so, thank you William, and thanks for taking the time to watch. A million bucks I wish, I need a few million more subscribers before I reach those levels!
Inspiring! These pots look perfect! taking some notes on how you do things. I have never attached and pulled a handle the way you describe. Something I will need to try out. Love the attention to detail!
I had my FIRST EVER pottery class today. I was so excited to throw on the wheel. Your work and your focus has been so inspiring. Made me actually sign up for one and I am so grateful!🙏
I love your videos! I see so many people saying how they probably will never use this information so it’s fun knowing that I actually might use (and have used) this information! Thank you for making these videos! (*happy fellow potter noises)
Yea I did make it all the way through to an AMAZING pottery channel also I LOVE to watch the voice overs then the ASMR ones because it’s just good in my opinion
I love all your work!! Will you be offering classes in the future, covid-permitting? I will be graduating from university in June and would really enjoy learning how to put into practice all the useful information you provide in your videos. Alternatively, could you recommend some studios in London that offer useful classes? Thank you!
Hey you beautiful soul! I have a question for you. When you just start throwing and make a mistake you always dump it to be recycled again. Can't you just wedge it again and start immediately? Really curious why you have to recycle. Thank you always love your videos ❤️
I often do that. Say I'm throwing a jar and it collapses, that clay I'll chuck over onto my workbench to wedge up again. But, if I'm trimming and destroy a pot, or if the clay is too firm or leather hard, it's often just easier to soak it down, revert it back to a sludge, dry that out again, and start again. It really depends at what stage the pot is wrecked really. Thanks for watching!
“I’m not a professional I hope you find these insights in your own practice” Me, who isn’t a potter but just finds his videos calming and peaceful: ah yes... my own practice (I use these videos to fall asleep lol I love just listening and watching until I doze off)
Hi Florian, just wondering if you could explain how the maker's mark was made in simpler terms for a ceramic novice such as myself? Your videos are such a great help:)
Thanks for another great video. Do you attach your spouts at an offset angle to the body or straight in line? I've had a mix of advice and experience on this.
Throwing my self i know how much difficult is to throw this shape! Great work! Have a question : how is the percentage of grog (shamotte) is in the clay u work with? Thank you!
I love your videos! They are so relaxing and informational!! What wheel do you use? Also how/where did you get you’re table over your wheel to hold your water, tools, and gauge?
They shrink together at the same rate, so as long as both components are made at a similar time and to the correct dimensions, there's nothing to worry about.
