- Kwangjuyo Group has been making 3,000 varieties of traditional Korean ceramic cups, bowls, and plates by hand since 1963. The company’s hands-on approach, which includes shaping the pieces from clay, hand-carving floral designs, and custom glazing, all stem from Korean tradition. The pieces have made their way to Michelin-starred restaurants like The French Laundry in California’s Napa Valley and Jungsik in New York City. You can purchase pieces from Kwangjuyo here: en.ekwangjuyo....

There is something about watching someone who master their craft work that brings some kind of joy to my soul.
You couldn't have said it better. Watching him and listening... I mean reading his words (since I know not a lick of Korean) made me smile and laugh. It brought joy to my soul as well.
2 similar to 2 sides to every story
I think someone whom uses their hands to create an object they are proud. Is an experience we all need to feel.

I am taking ceramics in college.
Korean pottery and ceramics is so rich in culture. One of the best in the world but it isn’t as well known as it should be. Thank you for sharing a glimpse into the beauty of art in Korea! Just so stunning.
Gotta appreciate the dedication, patience, and hard work it takes to create these ceramics
mad respect
Ceramics are very essential to Korean cuisine historically as storing and fermenting plays a large part of the food.
Yes yes we all watched the Ongi video too
Idk what Ongi is, but my great uncle was a potter from Gwangju

This recent trilogy of Eater videos shot in South Korea has been superb! 👍
Yes yes agreed!!! Please more Korean more Korea more Korea!!! Please and thank you
Thanks alot for your appreciation.
My thanks to the authors of this film for showing artisans' work, it's breathetaking! I love ceramics and pottery
Earth nation ceramic, Matthew Kelly pottery, Ingleton pottery, Matte Horne pottery, Old forge creations, Justins makery, Johnthepotter, Ceramic Jim are great youtube channels on this topic.
Korea has beautiful pottery culture. I wish more people knew how beautiful Korean culture is since its ancient dynasties like Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla. Most people think Korea was poor, but that is not true. Its history is 5000 years old and had very rich culture. It was famous for its golden jewelry, delicate silk, exquisite potteries., etc.
@@lmlmlmz Not all Asian culture is Chinese.
@@lmlmlmz First of all, Koreans used "Chinese written character/letters" until Korea's King Sejong invented our Korean written language "Hangul", but Koreans NEVER spoke Chinese. Korea was NEVER a part of China. Second, according to your logic, then are you a part of the America or Europe because the world uses a lot of European and American technology and invention? Are you Roman since we use roman numerals? Or since you are typing in English, are you all descendants of Phoenicians? We might as well say we are all African?
@@lmlmlmz isn’t the USA England? Pretty sure since people in the USA use English.
@@epaqu its not even the right comparison. Americans and British speak the same English language, but Koreans never spoke Chinese in their history. The same for Chinese, they don’t speak Korean. Koreans only borrowed characters in the past. Then, they decided to invent the writing system, Hangul.
@@lmlmlmz They borrowed Chinese characters only. Koreans never spoke Chinese, period. Koreans invented their own writing system, Hangul. I think that’s very creative. Your claim sounds like Japanese are Chinese cuz they still use Chinese characters. Lol
Korean ceramics are my favorite aesthetics and designs
Thank you so much for this wonderful
series featuring Korean artisans . I hope more to come!
Mad respect. "Every process is equally important".
Meticulous for every piece!
I can slap myself in the head for being to icheon many times and never stopped to have a look at the pottery world. The dark grey on white looks amazing. Very nice work.
Those matte dark grey on white pieces are gorgeous! They remind me of the Mata Ortiz pottery a bit, though the patterns are different of course.
Could you imagine the amount of time that this man has put into his work that allows him to be so gosh darn good at it?
These last so long when made by master craftsman and kept well. I have a few that was handed down from my grandmother and still using them today. She told me that she got those from her mother. Kinda amazing considering that those times included occupation, and then Korean War.
These people are masters... Knows the ins and outs of the process. Beautiful work👍👍👍
Whoa, all those hands made process, absolutely delicate and beautiful! I knew that Korea has very deep and rich pottery tradition and culture but it's an honor to be able to see on youtube!!!! I mean, they make their own glaze from the scratch !! Thank you for introducing Eater!!!
I've loved Korean ceramics for a long time, so it was really cool to see into the process! Thank you.
That black and white set were so beautiful!!! It looked like alabaster. Truely master craftsmen.
The whole process was so mesmerizing to watch. That black and white tea set was the icing on the cake.
Absolutely beautiful. Korea's history of ceramics is quite rich.
I’m obsessed with these videos which emphasis the amazing assets of Korean culture
In an age of throw-away mass production, it is so refreshing to see people who actually care about quality and take pride in their work. Bravo!
There would be more attention to quality if people were able to devote their lives to what they care about
Just some ranting but that is my experience
Can’t wait to go back to Korea to bring back such precious pieces home!
Seen the prices? 🤑
@@allthingsstreamed9174 Seen the skill and time that go into producing one? They are handmade by master craftsmen. You pay accordingly.
The price of that ONE pc bowl may cost 300-400 dollars since it has Stamp From the master.. Hehe!
@@allthingsstreamed9174 on their website they have some products that are a little easier to afford. There's a 8 piece bowl & 1 plate set that's $220, I hope to get the white 1 later this year 😊😁
We visited our son when he was stationed in Wonju and he took us to Yeoju to see the ceramics and to buy some pottery. We have a matched set of beautiful jars that we treasure. Beautiful county and Yeoju was a great experience.
12:53 the black and white ones are absolutely gorgeous. Just, wow.
Each bowl or plate is a work of art! Beautiful!
What an wonderful craftsmanship
I love how he enjoy his work and his creation looks amazing!
Korea
modernizing but also preserving traditions at the same time
Jongun Kim, now youre back to normal!
hmmm
Hmm you look familiar. 🤔
Amazing craftsmanship! Big respect for these people making this pottery
I am taking ceramics right now at my college and love using the wheel. I love different cultures as well. This video helps me with my research portion for my next project.
I mean when we hold in our hands a ceramic bowl we don't truely appreciate how much work and art it needs in order to be. This video shows it. Each piece needs lots of care and patience and knowledge. Nice video.
I love Korean ceramics. Kwangjuyo is very popular and of high quality. Thanks a lot for sharing this. Good luck!!
I could listen to this all day.
The affection of a creator, his focus, the music. Ahh
Shaping the clay looks very therapeutic and calming. Wish my workplace was like that.
Wow, the finished products are beautiful.
I was holding my breath the whole time when he was sculpting. Absolutely beautiful!!! I want them so bad.
광주요가 Eater에 소개되었네요. 반갑네요. 한국의 아름다운 도자기랍니다. 많은 요리사들이 갖고 싶어하기도 하구요.
I liked watching ppl make ceramics, its a profession that I don't think I'll be ever to master it
Astonishing. I salute you Master. I'll never complain about the price of handmade pots again.. I'll save until I can afford them. I want to make a cooling refrigerator, using 2 pots, sand, water and evaporation from the sun's heat. Goodbye plastic. I love knowing that it will return to soil, the same as me, with no damage done to the world.

Oh God, this is hard to even buy even in Korea... so goddamn beautiful, makes my heart flutter.
love watching the making of traditional ceramic series . Such a skill ! ✨ thank you
even though i was raised away from my motherland videos like this make me proud for korean culture
The shape of that rice bowl! so beautiful- I wish I could watch him make that one over and over again
who else got nervous at 7:39 when he lifted up the tray of bowls 😅 "don't drop it!" it's so interesting, a lot of science, artistry, technique involved. i would buy one of his bowls
Really enjoyable viewing, the tableware was so pretty.
Look at the final art at the end
Oh My Gosh
This is obviously a facility with many employees who are not around in the video. I am sure they love him. It is always great to have a boss who knows how to do what you do.
I am completely entranced watching and learning about this.
Cutting the clay looked really satisfying
광주요 Gwangjoo yo, it is a very popular ceramic brand in Korea.
Fyi, ‘Yo’ is a very old word for tableware.
Wow! Those are some terrific pieces that are made. I like the skill and tradition the Korean people have in their lives.
Tbh, whenever I eat outside in a traditional restaurant. I always see plates, glass and utensils instead of food. Like I am more fascinate in this arts. Even on pottery in ancient times. We use clay pot jar to store water and it comes out cold. We made "buro" using clay jars until now. Pottery is essential even now. I'm happy seeing such videos where we can learn and see masterful arts.
Those are beautiful
I have a few of their pieces and I will always cherish them
Fascinating! It's great seeing people who love what they do. The result is a product that can't be duplicated.
I’ve been using all of their tableware set since I was born and still today!
Lucky you!
Yeah! Your so lucky!! One pcs of that bowl, may cost 200-400 dollars..
Am i the only one who thinks when he brakes the claw in half its really satisfying
I have so much respect for these people - true artisans and such dedication for their work!
So talented. Hoping that this artistry will stay alive
The final result is so beautiful 😭😭
I gasped when the finished bowls came out of the kiln - completely gorgeous!! 😍 I'd love a set of my own someday!
I could not take my eyes off of this video! Such great skill, talent and craftmanship!
I had a friend of mine associate pottery with Japan because of the western glorification of Japan through popularization of some of their food and entertainment (In short my friend is a weeb XD) When I told them that Japan did not have ceramics till the 1600 (or late 1500) and learned from korea and china after the invasion they were very surprised. I showed them old movies depicting pre-edo era Japan where they were using mostly wooden bowls and metal pots. It's interesting that sometimes exposure to only one type of culture can make people associate things from that area to that specific culture.
Wow. It is almost astonishing to see a foreigner have a objective view on East Asian history and heritage. Certainly Japan has long years of craftsmanship tradition, but in terms of ceramics, your knowledge is accurate. Thank you for your appreciation.
This is heartwarming and absolutely beautiful. What a master of the craft.
I appreciate the hand made art
I really want one of those, even defected ones will also do...They are so beautiful!!
This is amazing!!! Now i need a set of dishes for my special kimchi made after i purchase some jars from a wonderful Onngi maker in a previous video . They are so gorgeous!!! Someday , Someday!
How did you get in contact with the Onggi maker?
Sounds amazing! You really know how to eat. There are so many different kinds of kimchi, if you also like non-spicy kimchi, you can try ‘dong-chimi(made out of raddish and it is my favourite) or ‘baek kimchi(white kimchi)😍😍😍
@@Kk-jj3xi I love so many versions. Oh be still my heart. I know many don't care for it but to me after the first bite I was hooked! I cannot ever picture it not being in my life. I have always wanted to tell people, who like kimchi, that kimchi is just a general term, so there are many other kinds of it while I was living in North America and Europe for my study! As Korean, I’m really thankful for your interest to kimchi!!! And especially when you said you probably were Korean in your last life, it really touches me! You are so sweet😊😊

광주요’s design is so trendy!
So much hardwork and effort in one bowl👍
It's only one minute and 43 seconds and I've learned so much about pottery
Respect from Republic of Macedonia.

so much work for a bowl! mad respect!
I enjoyed watching this pottery making. How much time, work, skill n experience goes into it. The end product is really superb
What a desirable piece of pottery, such fun to create too,
Very beautiful. Impressive.
Enjoyed the way he explained the process.
Loved watching this!
Amazing , watch korean made traditional bows
The sangam technique has its origin in 7th century bc india. It was namely originated at kaveri delta. It had its architecture, litrature and philosophy. It spread through Asia and in 21st century. Indians learning by watching a korean master perfected it. Asia is truly a single culture branched to many cultures. So amazing.
I love it~ one of best tech in the world
This man is an artist ! I didn't catch a single word he said . It's almost like he is speaking a foreign language or something .
I can’t decide if I should buy one of his art pieces or 2 months worth of food and water instead. Very tough choice!
Lol well top choice indeed I would buy the dishes and then I would really really really have something to look forward to later with being able to use them if I weren't dead LOL
However I definitely do see the dilemma LOL
It was nice watching the divise and rich culture of Korean people
