    I wish I could have seen videos like this when I was a teenager. I thought I was the only girl in the whole world born with exactly this same situation 40 years ago. My situation is exactly like this video. I was born without my two laterals and had braces to make space for teeth. I too wore the embarrassing retainer with fake teeth for years until I was able to afford something more permanent. I wasn’t aware of implants at the time so I opted for two bridges to replace my missing teeth. Right now I am dealing with tooth rot underneath one side of my bridge and will have to have the tooth pulled causing me to have yet another missing tooth.😢the other side has no tooth rot but does have minor damage/ a small chip. So I am in the process of replacing both bridges. On top of having missing teeth, the dentist had to shave down four of my good teeth to place the permanent bridges on. It has been a lifelong dilemma I have been dealing with because of this congenital issue. I don’t know what the solution is going to be regarding my bridges after yet another tooth is pulled. I have excellent oral hygiene, I am 50 yes old and have never had a single cavity but bacteria got underneath the bridge and caused damage/rot to my underlying teeth due to the fact that I am unable to brush underneath the bridge. This has been also very expensive throughout the years and am looking at having to pay another 10000 dollars to redo my current bridge situation. 😢on top of all the tooth drama I have had throughout my life I was also born with a class 3 underbite that had to be corrected with years of braces when I was a pre teen up until my early 20s. My underbite was fortunately corrected with braces but I still feel like I have jaw issues since my underbite is actually still there, just my teeth were moved to give the illusion of an overbite. As soon as my tooth infection is cleared up with antibiotics and eventually removed I will have to see what the dentist can go to fix everything. I’m afraid they might say my only option is a partial denture for my top front teeth because I can’t afford implants. I took out a loan for $10,000 dollars to get this current problem fixed. I don’t know what the final outcome is going to turn out to be for the price of $10,000. That’s all I can afford since I have already spent over 20,000 dollars on my teeth issues so far in addition to this $10,000 loan I got.😅also if you are born with any of these issues just a heads up. It’s hereditary.😮my 11 yr old son also has a class 3 underbite. I am currently having him see an orthodontist for his underbite that he inherited from me which is why I am limited on funds to fix my own teeth right now. I’d rather get the cheapest fix for my problem so that I can afford to fix his problem the best way possible. Thankfully he has no missing teeth though 😅. Anyway, I’m grateful for videos like this because I now know I’m not the only one in the whole world born without teeth. It really affected me psychologically growing up but I was able to overcome my insecurities on my own. Although now I’m feeling it all over again due to my current situation 😢

    This has got to be one of the worst insecurities to live with daily.. my canine teeth never grew in, they’re two little nubs. Speaking becomes a harder task everyday because of how embarrassed I am of not having the same teeth as everyone around me. We’ve gone to a countless number of orthodontists, but insurance just won’t budge. Nonetheless, this video helped me understand my condition a little more which I’m grateful for. :/

      Advanced Dental Artistry Of course! I love looking further into my condition. I’m 17, one of them is pretty strong and the other is too tiny to even bite into things. Specialists/ orthodontists have told us that ideally I’d get braces to make necessary space, then add implants and veneers over the teeth that aren’t shaped correctly. But as we know, without proper insurance it’s incredibly expensive

    I have this problem. I am 15 (turning 16 in a month) and I've had my braces since November. My ortho told me that there are two solutions to the problem: dental implants or having your canine teeth shaved to look like lateral teeth. I am scared that implants can cause problems, i've heard that there's a chance they might occur. Also, they're super expensive, and I don't think my family can afford them. I've watched a video by one girl showing her before and after having her canine teeth shaved. She said she hasn't had any problems and she totally recommends it. But what if mine don't look good shaved? Any tips?

    I have this. Both upper laterals just never grew in. I had a retainer with false teeth but that only helped the crown and the roots kept on moving. Eventually the retainer didn't fit anymore and I didn't want to pay for another temporary fix. The result is my front two teeth are separating and moving back with nothing to stop them because you can't install implants until it's all done moving around. Fettywap Fanp moving the teeth and changing the bite alters the position of the Tmj. Generally it’s important to know if the final position of the teeth will help the tmj issues. This can be achieved with devices such as splints or orthotics and then braces can move the teeth into this tested position. It is possible to move the teeth first however you are correct that it may be harder to know the outcome

After hs I went to college and got a job, was nervous to fix my teeth and didn’t know where to start. I’d recommend getting dental insurance asap (insurance benefits may take time to kick in) and find a good dentist, I’ve been to a couple before finding a good dentist. I got 4 wisdom teeth taken out first. Then I got Invisalign, dental insurance covered for half the price. I’m 23 and want to get an implant, I really don’t want to shave the canine tooth to make it look like the incisor. I understand it feels so embarrassing and is a huge insecurity. In my place getting dental treatment is very costly. But I decide to spend all my own savings on getting my teeth fixed. I have just finished 6 months of wearing something called “twinblocks” to fix my underbite problem. I’ve just worn my braces for a week. About the missing tooth, the ortho gave me two options: creating space for implant OR moving the canine tooth and later shaping it to the shape of the lateral tooth. Yes, I think this is a good decision given your history. The issues it that moving the canine often creates a space but poor bone in the area for an implant - the bone is thin. This then leads to more issues with bone grafting etc. The shaping of a canine to a lateral is possible with either polishing and/or bonding with porcelain. The other issues is the premolar to a canine that may need to be completed depending on your goals and appearance. I hope this helps.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 роки тому

      @@kittylover9790 The premolar has a cusp - palatal cusp - that is not on a canine tooth. Even though the shape is similar this changes the width of the tooth. The canine is front tooth and as such the lower canine needs to sit just behind the upper canine for a correct bite. With a cusp in this position, this is very difficult. Also the movement of the other back teeth forward would be difficult or impossible due to their size so this would mean an implant to replacement a premolar - or if there a lack of space - not replacing the premolar. Each case is different so please consider these comments only. I do not have models, x-rays, CT scans, etc so it's hard to give a clear opinion. All the best

      It is possible to gently polish and shape the canines by 1 mm and reduce the point and lengthen - this is only a minimal change that does not damage the tooth. Other elective treatment such as porcelain veneers is an option however is more complex and should be discussed and pros and cons considered carefully

I have been doing X Ray every 2-3 years since I was 15 to monitor if I had any adult tooth coming. According to multiple clinics, I don’t have an adult coming underneath my baby tooth. But here is the biggest QUESTION: if I need and want to get braces(to fix large gaps in upper teeth and overbite) and still have shaky barely there baby incisor, should I get braces first or get an implant first? Assuming I go with implant first, it solidifies into the bone; wouldn’t it make it impossible to move my teeth around for braces to work? Thanks a lot doc!

      Beck I would suggest assess of your bite and smile and this will determine treatment. It is possible to have only 3 lower incisiors if there is a lower crowding issue. This would be determine by your upper smile and the final position of your upper teeth after braces. It's to give clear recommendation without photos, x-rays, etc. However implant placement is complete at the end of braces or getting to teeth into the correct positions and planning for the implant. Is another round of ortho (braces or Invisalign) likely to give me enough space to be a candidate? Was my ortho just bad at his job or is this normal to do 6 years of braces and not be prepared for an implant that he discussed in my dental future. I have been living with a Maryland bridge that has been breaking often and is super hard to eat around. Furthermore, I cannot wear a retainer with the Maryland bridge due to its fragility, and frankly, I am over it. I just want to know if I should just jump to a bridge or try braces again. Audra - this hard to give definitive treatment options without more information like photos and x-rays. 6 years is a long-time in braces without resolve of the problem. I would always advise the best LONGTERM treatment that requires the least maintenance. You need to consider your goals too and as you know, a dental implant has the better longevity vs a porcelain bridge, so all of these pros and cons need to the considered. Hi, I’m 16 and I’ve had braces for pretty much a year now. I was pretty much told that I can’t get my canines to substitute my missing teeth because of some sort of bite problem it would cause. Because of this, I’m forced to get implants. However I’m concerned about the idea of getting implants at such a relatively young age. Although I would be over 18 when I do, it’s still relatively young. Do you have any tips to offer about this???

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 роки тому +1

      The most important issues with dental implants for missing laterals are is 1. Is there enough bone (height and width) after braces and 2. have the patient completely stopped growing before implants are placed. 3. are the roots of the central and canine teeth angled correctly to allow for dental implants. #3 can be controlled by the orthodontist/dentist during the braces (via "root torque"). #2 can be assess via difference difference techniques like hand/wrist x-rays however there is a general view that the older the better for upper jaw front implants - greater than 21. It's a high risk area as jaw growth can continue in this area. There is lots of information on the internet including endoexperience.com/documents/ageasacompromisingfactorinimplantinsertion.pdf
      #1 is harder to predict and is dependant on each individual patient however after the space has been create a 3D bone scan is the best assessment of the bone before considering implant treatment. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching

      Canines teeth have very long roots so harder to more with braces. The issue is if the baby canine are removed and the permanent canine moved back if there will be enough bone in the lateral spaces for implants. Moving teeth out of one area to another does not always leave bone behind. It's hard to give sound advise and I would consider a few consultations. The easiest option if the permanent canines are healthy and gum contour is reasonable is: 1. get a conebeam to check for bone above the baby canines for implants. 2, Shape the permanent canines to laterals as best as possible. 3. remove and place implant in the babe canine areas for new canine teeth. I hope this make sense! There are quite a few options so talk to a few dentists and specialist before your final decision. Take care. X

If there is a crowding issue or a lack of space, having canines in the lateral position after correct shaping is a good option. If you have bad credit we would recommend looking into accessing your Superannuation on medical grounds. That is something we handle in house here and can help you with :-)

      Advanced Dental Artistry but I do have to put money down right as well right?
      How long will it take so I can get started?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  6 років тому +1

      initially, the costs would be $310 for your scan and consult, then another $300 for your Super application. You can claim the $300 Super application fee back on top of the cost of treatment too :-)

      Advanced Dental Artistry but for an estimate for the whole procedure I will have to go right?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  6 років тому +1

      Yes that is correct. Cases like this are extremely complex and without assessing you it is almost impossible to say what the best treatment plan would be :-)

    Can I create space for implants after having had braces? I am 18

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  3 роки тому

      Yes you can but you will need braces again and you cannot have the implant until at least 21-25 yo after growth in the jaws has completed. Hope this helps.

    What causes this?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 роки тому

      Congenitally missing means that the body just didn't form these teeth. There are several teeth that have a high incidence - the upper lateral incisor is missing in around 2% of the population. Also not having all 4 wisdom teeth is common

      My mother didn't exactly take care of herself and eat right when she was pregnant with me. Could lack of proper nutrition cause this or is it strictly a genetics issue?

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  4 роки тому

      @@daniels.3062 it's strictly genetic. Poor nutrition or illness may show as poorly formed enamel or lines/discolouraton on the teeth (enamel crown) - particularly the baby teeth. The only permanent tooth in formation at birth is the first adult molar.

    Doctor, I had 2 missing teeth (12 and 22), and also my incisors were separated. I had used dental braces however after treatment I lost one of my incisors due to orthodontic problems. Then I found a surgeon who did me dental bridges. I have been using like 2-3 years in this period we had to change bridges because it displaced several times and I have troubles like my saliva getting an increase, lose the bite pressure in that case what's your suggestions?
    My doctor had said that if we do a dental implant it would not look aesthetic.

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  3 роки тому

      Dental implants after missing teeth is challenging as there is generally poor or minimal bone. Porcelain bridges should hold for 12-15 years with good bonding. How many teeth are on the bridge and how many real teeth?

    • @batuhantas5841
      @batuhantas5841 3 роки тому

      @@advanceddentalartistryperth There are 6 on the bridge but 3 of them real teeth besides I can't figure out how to get rid of excessive saliva

    • @advanceddentalartistryperth
      @advanceddentalartistryperth  3 роки тому

      @@batuhantas5841 this can be very stable if the bite is managed and routine maintenance is maintained. Excessive saliva is good for the oral environment however I have not idea how to help you reduce this.
