I lived in Castle Combe back in 1976. The house(s) I lived in you can see just to the right at the end of the bridge 0:40 the one with the peaked entrance. The house belonged to my then fiancee's parents. The house in fact consists of two houses. The stone faced house and the white house beside it. They purchased both houses and connected them. We lived there for 6 months. It was very quiet indeed. Back then, as today there were no street lights. There were two pubs in the Market Square. One for the locals (The Castle Inn) and one across the way for the tourists. The one for the locals had a parrot and a beer drinking dog. This is the village where they filmed part of the original Dr Doolittle movie. Fun fact the wall along the creek was built for the movie Dr. Doolittle and only dates from the 1960's. The only problem we used to have was when buses of tourists would visit the village. They thought that no one lived in the houses and they often just walked into the house unannounced. That was always fun.
If you visit Malmesbury then Avebury is only @ 20 miles away . This mystical site offers a similarly picturesque village but encircled with Stone circles that I feel are more impressive than Stonehenge and Pyramid style Silbury hill and other burial mound are nearby .Amazing !
I live in South West England where there are many picturesque villages (such as the little known Selworthy); the cottages may be cob and the roofs thatched, so they're not the exquisite wood and stone of the Cotswolds but lovely all the same.
Visited this village in Cotswold before COVID. I was intrigued watching Agatha Christie’s tv adaptations. It so unforgettable an oustanding natural beautiful medieval town
Great summary and lovely video. Major towns nearby are Stratford upon Avon (Shakespeare), Oxford, Gloucester (lovely dockland and cathedral), Cheltenham. Many Americans stay over at Moreton in Marsh which is Central to many villages with visiting and 17 miles from Stratford upon Avon. A lovely walk between Moreton in Marsh and the Batsford Arboretum which has a lovely garden centre and Cafe is well worth doing, and just 1mile each way.
Thank you Denise for the vedio which bring fresh memories of my first visit to the cotswold in 2005 December. I had the support of a Baptist pastor Rev Jim from gas green Baptist church Cheltenham. I would like to visit the cotswold with my wife this year and would like to make it during winter. Please advise. Thank you for telling the world about cotswold Roger
What a lovely film! I live not that far from the Cotswolds and have been to most of the places. But now I want to see them all again. Also, always wondered about the Slaughters. Really interesting. Thanks.
Mr.Dennis Callan , I am always fond of your travel videos. This one on Costswold is also charming . Request your comments whether it would be better to stay in any of the villages at Cotswold and see the beauty of the surroundings instead of rushing through in a day trip . Can Mad Max Tour arrange for the overnight stay so that we can travel with comfort . In that case which village would you recommend for stay from where travelling around would be easier .Thanks .
Good morning.Enjoyed your video.Thank you. By the way, what' s your name? Where do you take a break in the middle of the day? Greetings from Moscow, Russia.🇷🇺
just google madmax tours and you will find their website. I found them to be an excellent day-trip provider, based in Bath with tours to Stonehenge, Cotswolds and surroundings, with 5-star rating on TripAdvisor also.
Lovely video of the Cotswold district located in south-central England. The district looks it is out of medieval times. I realize that you filmed this video during the off season, however I am just curious as to the time of day that your filming took place. The towns look quite deserted from the outside, yet in the video church services were already taking place indoors. I am amazed that dogs were allowed to go swimming unattended in the town stream. This area seems to be a wonderful area to visit at any time of the year. What are the major towns/cities in this area?
Fortunately we got to Castle Combe first thing in the morning and had that tiny village all to ourselves. We traveled in May, which is off-season, so that kept the crowds down.
Awesome Video as always. Does the Mad Max tour stop in at each village to walk & look? In Bourton-on the-Water, does the tour allow time to walk in the miniature village?
Thanks for the comment. Yes, the Mad Max tour we took does stop in each of the villages, with time to walk around. They do have a variety of different tours with similar chance to get out and walk around, varying from one itinerary to the next in details. We had a small group and could customize the routing to include Bourton, which is not always included. Check their website -- google madmax cotswolds. It's an excellent company.
about the miniature village, no we did not have time to walk through that in Bourton -- our stop there was rather brief. If you had enough people for a custom trip, say 5 or 6, you could arrange to include that.
Josette, yes it is. Whilst there do visit the renovated docks and their wonderful warehouses, once the main storage places for imported timber. The place has great bars and restaurants and take a boat trip up the river and get a good history lesson thrown in. Our boat was one of the Dunkirk little ships, fantastic. Make sure you also visit the cathedral, it's a jaw dropper. You are right on the edge of the Cotswolds too, a place everybody should visit once in their lifetime.
copferthat Hi I have been already in Gloucester which we made our base in The Cotswolds.I plan to visit again but will choose a village to stay as we did not enjoy our stay in Gloucester because by five o'clock the city is dead and you need to go down to the docks for a meal or find a good pub to eat which we did and I would recommend The Fountain Inn with very good food and friendly staff
Despite being subscribed I hardly ever get notifications of new videos on your channel. Just crazy ass preachers and paranoid cointel videos :sigh: Even if I scroll down several pages to a month ago they hardly ever appear. It looks like I will have to check in manually from now on so I don't miss anything. So will do!
I'm distressed to hear that you are not notified. I think I have my settings correct, but I will check up on it. Thanks for letting me know and for watching.
we kids back in the early 1940s always thought the slaughters and slaughterford was where the water was an Ideal spot to kill and wash down keep meat and liquid cool. then all the blood away. were we wrong then! was a good spot for eels too.
Hello, I would like to ask you for permission to show parts of your Cotswold videos at the British Evening of the German-English Society in a multimedia show. We make no profit and do not raise any entry. (www.deg-montabaur.de, info@deg-montabaur.de) Thank you very much
Thankyou very much for showing us. Very pretty places.

Stunning and gorgeous!!! Thank you!
Cotswold is really something to see.
I hope the people of the area know how truly lucky they are...such a beautiful place!!
I was born here. As i grow older i find myself walking about in a sense of wonder. 😊
Another great glimpse of England! Watched it on my TV but had to jump on my pad to comment! ❤❤❤
Thanks for doing that, for jumping to iPad, yeah.
So so beautiful...loved how soothing it was to look at lovely green small towns and villages.
What a nice selection of stunning places. And I'm glad the sun came out for you. Great stuff.
Nice film. I have lived close to Castle Combe for 30 years and I think your film shows the area off admirably. Well done

Thank you for giving us an “authentic” travel story with history- devoid of millennials filming themselves eating. Appreciate it
My lifetime wish is seeing Cotswolds onetime

yeah, me too, maybe I will expand it someday.
Maravilloso video gracias, ojala tuviera subtitulos en español
Just want to say that you did a great job of commentary. Keep up the good work.
Great concise video! Will make it a point to get to atleast one of the villages very early to beat the crowd and get some really good pictures!
Thank you Amish, that is a good strategy, will help you enjoy it more.
Mu fvrt country uk😃😃😁😁😀😊
Cotswold creates the same impression as the Shire. In other words Hobbiton. Except the stone villages are not underground.
I live in the Cotswolds u should go between or around eastleach and hatherop bc I live around there
Good morning.Enjoyed your video.Thank you.

We are planning on visiting the Cotswolds next September and we are going to stay in Gloucester is it a good base for us ?

copferthat yes I think all the pubs offer good food .As for the the Cathedral I should say one must visit it is marvelous it left us speechless
The month is November, and we're back in the 1800s exploring Regency Bath.

It's Castle C-oo-m (as in loom, doom or boom). Americans...
uumm so in the Cotswolds if you're going wading in a muddy creek you're going to slaughter?
Chad Simmons Well, you have to choose between upper and lower Slaughter, but at least you have pronounced the name correctly.
What does it matter
George P. Simmonds How is an American to know that? No doubt if you were to visit the States, you would need correction on some pronunciations.

Coom. Not the most beautiful in the Cotswolds.
Village not town, and brook not a stream.
