This text is an edited version of the captions (enable CC) in the video. This morning we are walking from Upper Slaughter to Lower Slaughter. Upper Slaughter is a small village in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. The main town of the Cotswold district is Cirencester, a 30 minute car drive away. Travelling from London by car is about 140 km and would take over two hours. Public transport from London would take around three hours, by train, then a bus ride and then a 30 minute walk. In 2011 the population here was recorded at 177 people. As there are so few houses the property market in the village is small. There have been 12 houses sold in the last five years. Those house sales averaged at £1,613,561 per property. Which is £1,332,561 above the UK national average (April 2022). Weather; average temperature is as low as 1°C around December to January, climbing up to a maximum average around 22°C from June to August. The name Slaughter may sound ghoulish, but originates from an Old English term “slothre”, meaning wet land or a muddy place. The village was built on the banks of the River Eye, a small river branching from the River Windrush. Lower Slaughter is also on the River Eye, only a two km walk away. Excavations in the area revealed there could have been a small Roman settlement here. The first records of Upper Slaughter are of its Manor, in the Domesday Book (1086). The manor is recorded as being in the possession of powerful Norman nobleman; Roger de Lacy. During the 12th century Upper Slaughter was the site of an adulterine castle. Adulterine castles were castles built without royal approval. They were mainly built during the Anarchy, a civil war between 1139 and 1154. The castle at Upper Slaughter was built of earth and timber. A mound on the north side of the village marks the remains of the castle. The church we saw earlier dates back to the 12th century. The church underwent restoration work in 1877, but retained some of its Saxon features. There is a gabled Manor House in the village dating from the 15th century, after much neglect it was restored in the 19th century, it is now a private residence. Next door to this building is the 17th century hotel; Lords Of The Manor Hotel. Upper Slaughter is known as a Double Thankful Village, meaning the village lost no men in the armed forces during World War I and II. In 1944 a German bomber dropped 2000 incendiary bombs on the village. Buildings were damaged, but there were no fatalities or injuries. The BBC series Father Brown (2013-2022) has been filmed here, as well as the Charles Dickens BBC mini-series Our Mutual Friend (1998). We are now heading into Lower Slaughter, from the west end of the village. We pass-by the water mill in a few seconds. A mill has been recorded here all the way back to the 11th century. The current 19th century water mill is open five days a week as a museum. You can learn more about bread making and the workings of the mill. The mill was last used to grind flour for bread in 1958. As well as the water mill, the local inn and manor house support the village’s main trade of tourism. Both Upper and Lower Slaughter are very attractive villages. Most of the homes here are 16th and 17th century, built from Cotswold limestone. There are more modern residences that have been built the other side of the old village. These homes put the average house price in the area at £468,750. There have only been two house sales recorded in the last five years. Access and parking to both villages can be hard. The roads and lanes are narrow, meaning vehicles like tour buses can not enter. Parts of the 2020 film adaptation of Jane Austin’s Emma were filmed here.
Our country is incredible.
Totally wonderful! Thank you so much. The birdsong is beautiful to hear. Two gorgeous villages, I’m truly grateful that you get up so early in order to film these places at their best in their peaceful morning glory. It’s almost like we are actually there breathing the cool air, oh! It’s glorious! 🙏🏻💕
How I’d love to live in such a beautiful old place! Your filming is absolutely top-notch, and I thank you for bringing us these exquisite images!
Thank you for the lovely comment. I'm just very fortunate to be able to have these experiences and to be able to share them with such nice people.
I loved when you said "good morning" to the sheep 🤣
They looked so sheepish
I thought it was unbahhlievable 😜
@@everywhereisimagined 🐑🐑🐑 I laughed when you "Morning"-ed them! Really enjoyed this walk. So peaceful... I'll have a better day now. Hope you all will, as well!
Your videos make me emotional! I live in Australia and am working against odds to move to England, I've been twice and it's unmistakably my soul's home. Thank you for taking us on these medicinal walks. 🙏🌿💖
Thank you, that is so kind and so nice to know. With thanks and good wishes 😊
I came back from UK two weeks ago and I also think the same my soul,s home
Nah mate stay in Australia its so expensive here now..
@@ORDEROFTHEKNIGHTSTEMPLAR13 Probably not as expensive as Australia is! But it doesn't matter anyway, England could be the most expensive place anywhere and I'd still go.
Coming here on vacation is one thing but coming to live here is another thing?? You do realise that England isn't all rainbows and unicorns???
I found your channel quite by accident, and it was the best discovery I've had in a while. It is extremely pleasant to "walk" with you in atmospheric places that are full of peace, comfort and incredible beauty. I am from Ukraine and during a difficult time for our country, when the whole society is working for our victory and a peaceful life in the future, thanks to your videos I have the opportunity to rest my soul. I dream of visiting UK one day and enjoying its incredible places. Thank you for the inspiration and great atmosphere. Also, thanks for the information about the places you visit in the video descriptions. You help to restore mental harmony and peace when it is so necessary.
I really appreciate it. 🌿⛅
Hi! I’m from Russia and I think your videos very very good and beautiful, like fairy tale 🏡
I enjoy watching your videos after a hard day's work and in weekend.
Goode luck!
‘Morning’ haha this one is my favorite so far, beautiful stroll!
Hi, I watch your videos from here in Brazil🇧🇷...the places you show are stunning...thanks for providing this, may God bless you greatly🙏🌷
Thank you, I'm very blessed to be able to visit these places and then doubly grateful to be able to share them with such kind people. Thank you and good wishes 👋🇬🇧😊
I’ve walked this exact path and fell in love with those old oak trees. Thank you for sharing this. It brought back very find memories. Those trees felt like dear old friends ❤️
Как приятно знать, что где-то в мире существуют такие красивые места! Люди живущие там определенно счастливы!
Да, надеюсь, они ценят это так же, как мы ценим красоту. Спасибо
Beautiful village,love from Serbia
A wonderful walk with the bird song love that beautiful blessings 🏴💕💕
Thank you as always 😊. The bird song is lovely company on these walks. Best wishes 🏴🥰
I love the Cotswolds, such beautiful greenery. I bet they are looking a bit more parched now after the July and August heatwaves! Thanks for sharing.
Какая красота! Везде чисто, зелено. Это - Рай на земле! Спасибо за это видео! А где все люди? Ни один человек не встретился по дороге.
He's walking in the early morning 6AM -7AM it's the best time to. Record footage before everyone awakens..
@@ORDEROFTHEKNIGHTSTEMPLAR13 Спасибо за ответ.
Your videos are few.. (I watch a lot of walking videos) but they are top class... Recently I was reading some metaphysical stuff.. kind of past life regression and they stated that earth is a poor copy of the Realms we visit after death.. But I am hoping it's just like this places I see on ur video.
Bless you, that comment made me feel a bit emotional. I'm very fortunate to be able to visit these places and receive such positive kind feedback. Thank you.
If I die and don't see this after I walk through the PEARLY GATES😢then I'm not dying..
Thank you for this walk, I bumped into this channel a couple of months ago and it's been a pleasure to "follow" you on your walks. Love, from sweden
Absolutely beautiful!
So glad I found your channel. I am headed to the Cotswolds on a month walk about, and you have further inspired me. I do worry that I will get lost, as the paths appear unmarked, but what a lovely spot it amble. Wish this old woman luck, and thank you so much for the peaceful walks.
Thanks so much for this beautiful walk all there is amazing ,greetings from Mexico city!!!!
My pleasure. A lovely place and a lovely morning 🇬🇧👋😊
I am savoring your videos. Especially the special early mornings with the birds and the rising sun. You bring me peace.
A pleasure see all your videos and thank you bring me green England waiting another video soon take care
I’ve filmed a few but not sure which to choose. As ever thank you for the kind words. Best wishes
The sheep!😍
Gotta love the sheep 🐑
Always comforting, thank you 🕊🕊🕊
Thank you for this very beautiful video. Small towns in full harmony with nature. Cars spend the night parked in front of houses and no one moves. Here where I live, in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, if I leave a car parked all night in front of my house, the next day it will only find the tires.
Glad you liked the walk and thank you. Your comment makes me realise how as humans we are all living on the same planet but all have different experiences depending where we live.
I stream these videos onto the TV and jog on my mini trampoline! Thank you so much for creating these beautiful inspiring videos! You have a special gift!
The color green is wonderfully lovely. I wonder if anyone in the UK ever has to water their greenery or even knows what a water hose is used for. (says the person from the desert) Thanks for posting 'everywhere is imagined', the footage of buildings and landscape is amazing. And the informative added text (subtitles) is appreciated so there is less speaking and simply enjoying the sounds of the film while learning about the area and history as well. This video is pure delight. Again, thank you
Thank you for the lovely comment, so nice to know you appreciate the walk as well as the accompanying text. Your comment about the hose made me laugh and we sometimes have hose pipe bans as people love watering their green grass, growing flowers and veg patches so much.
We get so much rain no need to 😄
Hi ☺️ My mom likes a lot of your videos. We live in Korea. England is a wonderful country! Thanks for the great video!
It really is a pleasure. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Say thank you to your mom also. Best wishes from across the ocean 👋😊🇬🇧
Beautiful. Thank you. Love from Galicia.
A pleasure. Thank you 😊 🥰
I just discovered this genre and was thrilled with this walk. It made me drag out the photo album from my trip to England in 1997. (From the USA). A Royal Shakespeare Company package included one night at the Lords of the Manor hotel in U.S. They treated us like millionaires. We walked to Bourton-on-the-Water and en route had coffee and biscuits at the Lower Slaughter Manor, where we were again treated very well. Fabulous trip! Thanks so much. Watching it lowered my heart rate too!
Absolutely stunning!
It was a special morning 😊
Love to see the Cotswolds highlighted
Another beautiful walk. Thank you for sharing.
Always a pleasure.
You always manage to catch the best time of the day for walks. Stunning
Thank you! I think I forgot to comment on your Yatesbury video. It was very touching, I had an old friend who was stationed there. He used to talk about travelling on the old trainline from Calne to Chippenham . I wished he was still with us so I could have shared it with him. It made me feel a bit emotional. Thank you

Glad you enjoyed the walk and the commentary. It really was a lovely morning. Thank you for the kind comment
Gorgeous. I love how you filmed walking away from the church in upper and in lower in the village.
I loved walking through the dark wood and coming out into the light. Perfect as always. Thank you
Always a pleasure Tracy. You are too kind, it is appreciated though. Glad you liked those moments... you can only really walk backwards while filming when nobody else is around. Best wishes.
I came here to say the same thing Tracy - that was genius use of the camera and perspective. ❤️

Thank you for a fabulous video of my favourite village in the Cotswolds so beautifully filmed, peaceful and quiet with no one around. Beautiful day as well, not even a breeze,
It was a lovely morning, with a crisp nip in the air. Glad you liked it.
We’ve been in Lower Slaughter four years ago. Thanks for bringing back memories.
Lovely to know you enjoyed strolling down memory lane. Best wishes.

Thank you too, it is a pleasure.
Absolutely stunning images of this so so beautiful place in the Cotswold and I must say what a wonderful job you did of capturing it. Really thankful for your work. :)
Thank you so much that is very kind. I am very fortunate to be able to visit these places with ease and have some great fortune with the weather. Greatly appreciated :)
Amazing beautiful area...why it was not picked for filming for the movie, Emma a romance novel story beyond me...I would walk around every morning if I lived there.. Never to grow tried of it, Thank you ..For taking me along with you on this morning walk.
Walking around in the changing seasons would make it feel different also, especially if it snowed in the winter or autumn leaves... Thank you joining along on the walk.
I love this video.
I wanna be there someday.
Thank U :)
Love your walks, educational, restful, inspiring, and such fabulous quality.
If you get the opportunity we would love to see our home town of Worcester
Glad you enjoy the walks and the read along too. Yes, what a good idea. I will do Worcester one day, hopefully this year.
oh, the wonders of creation.
Certainly "savouring the beauty" here! With so much of it, how can anyone not? Love the early-morning birds, too.
Thank you, Adam, for yet another mesmerising and peaceful walk. 🙏🏽
It is as time stood still in these villages, and we were allowed to come to rest with them. 🧡
I have just returned from a delightful long stay in the Dutch Caribbean, surrounded by the most beautiful nature, breathtaking views and relaxing atmosphere.
Our walk today resonates so well with that.
Maybe one day you get to walk there as well. I highly recommend it!
Sending you warm greetings from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Good morning Michael. Always good to hear from you. That sounds delightful, I'd not heard of the Dutch Caribbean before so just had a quick Google. It looks lovely. We have a little trip coming soon, I'd usually say "to warmer climates" but England is currently having a mini heat wave. Best wishes to you 😊👋🇬🇧
@@everywhereisimagined That heat wave has reached us in the Low Lands as well, Adam! 🌞 30 to 40 degrees all over the country. It feels as if I am still on Curaçao 🇨🇼 (and loving it 😊)
Enjoy your holidays, Adam!
PS: Wait…. Let me pour us both a coffee before I go lay in the sun… ☕️☕️

🥺
Glad to see you back. Once again, your videography is stunning. You seem to pick the right time and location to show the beauty of your country. One thing I would like to see if if you could mention the approximate time of the year you film a particular piece. This looked like Spring or late spring to me though posted in July. The exact date is not necessary and I know you often walk on Sunday mornings, but the time of the year would be nice to know for those of us who travel to England. Somehow, I expected you to pass Father Brown as you moved between the two villages!
That would have been amazing to pass a member of the cloth on the walk... maybe while holding a cream tea, a perfect English scene. The walk was filmed on a Saturday at 6am on May 28, 2022. Ideally I would have liked to have uploaded this sooner and hope to get back to a better walk and upload time. Thank you for the for the comment about the videography it is greatly appreciated.
Such a beautiful, beautiful village.
Its my favorite although I have never been there nor will I ever.
Often thought that the chimney and side building once housed a boiler and steam engine to drive the grinding machinery when river levels were low which was fairly common but have never been able to find out.
Tourism might bring money into the village but I bet it makes living there for the locals a tad stressful at times.
Many thanks for taking us there.
You are right Peter the 19th-century water mill with an undershot waterwheel and chimney is for additional steam power.
I've not visited during peak season but can imagine it must get busy. We are currently having a mini heatwave in England so I can imagine the river must be tempting to dip toes into.
Glad you liked the walk. Best wishes.
This is just wonderful, beyond words. Someone who is not able to take walks, can virtually take them...You may never know how many people are blest by your videos. I already shared this one with someone who was so glad to see it. I will keep on sending more. Thank you....it's to bad that we can only give one thumbs up👍.
It simply amazes me how you are able to walk through miles and miles of private property in the UK! In Australia you could never just walk through land owners fields and grounds! I love how the beauty is accessible to all. 💚
Thankfully in the UK we have a great public footpath network to explore. Sometimes if these paths go across farm land you may occasionally encounter a grumpy landowner but generally these are safe paths to walk down. Some are more used than others and one I went down this morning that is less used was overgrown with stinging nettles.. ouch!
We have a right to rom the land is free with footpaths unless someone has land they have fenced off 🏴🌹
I had a stroke this past Aug. and your walks/videos bring me such peace. I am also an artist and would love to paint from one of your scenes, would you mind? Godbless; Derek
Just to say that even though I live in a hill-top suburb of a nearby large town, there is, if you're lucky with the weather in a British summer, a lustrous glow of light at around six that hits off the redbrick houses and distant steeples, a clean crisp blue illuminates the cloudless sky, and the air is somewhat sharp but also sweet. You can go for a walk without a soul around. It's a time of peace and grace; a wonderful hour that few ever see. Robert, UK.
That’s a lovely description Robert. I will miss the clear crisp early summer mornings.
Such a therapeutic walk. 💕What camera do you use!
i mean...imagine people live there on a daily basis, it"s like a dream fr
Lovely as usual Adam. I wonder what that tree was with all the pink flowers. It wasn't rhododendron as the flowers were too small, but their colour made me wonder if it was a Camelia - they do grow to great sizes in the Himalayas and here in Lincolnshire there is a Large hotel that was used for the RAF pilots - with three really huge camelias on the patio - one white, pink and red.
Beth, I am also a bit flummoxed by those two trees and don't know either. I wished I had asked someone in the captions if they knew. For a moment I though it was a Crape Myrtle but I don't think this is correct either... I just realised I can asked a friend who I used to work with at the Museum of Garden History! I'll update you later. Best wishes and thank you.
@@everywhereisimagined Adam, we have Crepe Myrtle in my part of the US, but it is not the same tree. Yes those are two lovely specimens, but I don’t recognize them. Another beautiful production. You can tell you enjoy what you are making and I hope they give you as much joy as they do for those of us who watch them. Chris
@@chrisicu4236 I think it may be a Red Flowering Horse Chestnut Tree. Thank you also for the kind comment. It is appreciated.
Adam, are you sure - Horse Chestnut trees are renown for their beautiful branches and large leaves - this is more like a bush!!

The period film ‘Tawny Pipit’ was filmed in upper and lower slaughter - and is available on UA-cam. Filmed during WW2 it is a propaganda moral boosting piece and very much of its time but it also inadvertently captures these two villages in the 1940s.
Dear Adam,
Thank you so much for sharing such wonderful videos from England. I find solace watching every single one of them and I hope you find peace in them too.
I've been taking videos of where I live and plan to share them on my channel soon. The files are huge (5 outings = about 133GB) and I was wondering whether you keep all of your original footages or delete them once you've uploaded on UA-cam? My 1TB of external hard disk is fast running out of space; I do wonder how other UA-camrs keep store their files.
I look forward to hearing from you.
