I've flown a cutter a little bit. I think I might have done a video about it actually, but I can't really recommend it. It's just not meant for combat. For the big ships, Corvette or Anaconda is the way to go imo. Good luck with that Fed rank!

Clippers are not great fighting ships anymore. your build was fantastic though! plays to the only real strengths left to the clipper, raw speed and agility. plus the grade 5 modded thermal shield are just amazing dude. keep up the content bro!
Hi Shadow, thanks for this video. I have just built a Clipper based on your specs, though without engineer it doesn't seem to quite be coming together. What would you prioritise? I notice my Beam Lasers don't go on for nearly a quarter of the time yours do before running out of power, for example.
Do not use 4 beams like that, even with engineering, he's gimping his overall dps in favour of some burst. A perfect example is that last fight he did, he spent SO much time just looking at a target he could have been firing on. Pulse or even burst lasers sure, arent as pretty but pulse lasers you can literally fire ALL day on 3 or 4 pips and if you want to go down to 2 or even sometimes 1 you can fire a decent chunk at em and have plenty of pips to put into eng or sys
It has the maneuverability of a medium ship, I would say about as maneuverable as a Fer de Lance or maybe even a Cobra. Don't get fooled by the fact that the clipper counts as a large ship.
Low Flyer Definitely my favorite ship, and i've played with everything but fed ships. The clipper has AMAZING flight characteristics. She's a little on the drifty side with non-engineered engines or when heavy, and the only real negative with its handling is the lateral thrusters... they're pretty bad, but not cutter bad. clipper doesn't have the best jump range even when engineered (mine's 25ly), and if you commute with her enough keep in mind the clipper has a very tiny fuel tank for its size.
I used it on the Vulture build I did during the 2.3 beta. I haven't actually used the grade 5 since it went live though. So I did not find those because it only required fish during the beta.
@@ShadowTracer ok, so I modify mine between explorer and fighting roles. So I'm only going to bring up a few components that really change what's going on. First, I run a larger biweave than you. Decided on it based on my fdl and my fdl never has its shields go down. 1v1 against an AI anaconda. I don't need to use flanking maneuvers. You can cqb that bitch. Weapons... T3 beams on top, turreted so they can fire behind me, and engineered efficient, with the mod for more damage based on my heat. On the bottom are a pair of rail guns to help keep my heat up. Engineered lightweight with super penetrator. I used similar combinations with a huge plasma on my fdl, and another with rail guns engineered for sturdy mount, and super penetrator. I prefer the sturdy mount for the extra armor pen. Mine being light weight had to do with it's explorer role... And low on mats for sturdy mount.
ShadowTracer There was an issue that the game would not load, but there was always a work around for the time being, and since friday it has been fixed.
yea amm is that when they make this 2.3 patch well honestly the game kinda kick me out when i am killing pirates or when i lunch my fighter the game drop me off always happen when i have multi crew and also the game don't let me go back in it stay frozen on the menu for hour and hour

Try overcharged gimballed frag cannons, couple with a recharge-focused power distributor. That works best with boom & zoom.

On a clipper, what's the best approximate jump range (with engineered FSD drive) you can expect to get?
I would guess, if you really put some effort into reducing the weight as much as possible, you could probably get it up to about 30ish lightyears.

i was able to get about 34Ly with engineering and weight reduction
