The most impressive to me is how far you go with this receiver, ins't exactle cheap but go to reference level's at this price point, is far better than my old Yamaha 2020 with almost the same price point, and surprise that system never went to referece level's like this Pioneer

I recently upgraded from an Audyssey XT32 enabled Denon to an Onkyo with Dirac Live. No other changes were made to the system, and the benefit from the room correction alone blew my mind. I'm now a huge believer in Dirac.

I bought the onkyo rz50 back in December and only recently as of last week. I finally ran Dirac live for the room calibration and OMG! The sound was incredible compared my original settings. I feel like I’ve been missing a lot of the audio playing movies or games or streaming. Definitely love Dirac!
@@dannyr2272 to be honest I forgot which one worked. I believe the laptop version is what I was able to use to get it to calibrate, but I did download the app to my phone as well. I had a little bit of WiFi issues before I got it work.
Great info! From what I understand the LX505 does not have DLBC (Dirac Live Bass Control). What is the difference on how the LX505 calibrates the bass vs DLBC?
I’ve had the Pioneer. LX-505 since last summer. It made a huge improvement in my dedicated theatre over my old system. One thing I never did when I setup Dirac was to limit the range it can affect. I’m going to have to go back and do some research in that. I run Dirac with a UMIK-1 and my laptop. Did you try that in your living room, I was wondering if there is any difference in the sound, I have never tried the app to calibrate my setup. Thanks for the video.

Was wondering what center console get next, Klipsch 404c M1 or M2 (504c wouldn't fit). Amazing setup in this video and beautiful living room.

Thank you for this great video! I have one question I can’t find an answer to. Is it OK to turn your receiver on separately from the TV when you’re connected by EARC? If it is, then do you use the receiver remote to control it? I’m afraid to try it because I don’t want to ruin the connection between the TV and the receiver. They’re working great right now and I can use the TV remote for almost everything on the receiver.
I'm upgrading my home theater and recently got a TX-RZ70 from Onkyo. It has a Klipsch optimized mode built in. Does it work? Is it worth to limit myself to Klipsch or would it be better to also look at some other speaker brands in that ballpark?
@Youthman and others, at 16:00 you talk about crossover settings. 1. My question is since Dirac has already done its part, shouldnt the setting be trusted and see how it plays out? I am not against setting crossover manually at 80hz and speakers to small, but then it defeats the purpose of trusting Dirac to do its thing and give you great sound. Or do you think that change is icing on the cake? Please provide your thoughts.😀 2. I still have my old Sony DH 540 and Sony DN1080. I wonder how the speakers will sound if I go by that cross over 80HZ setting assuming that setting is available in older receivers.

I figured it out. Apparently the suns were too hot. They were in the green with other speakers, but would cause an error in the system until I backed them down below the green. I ran the 3 position quick set up, then raised the sun level afterwards. Sounds good, but now that I know what the problem was, I may run the 9 position set up since I have 2 rows of seating.
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I have the LX305 so I imagine it should be about the same? I just upgraded all my speakers to Klipsch RP-8060FA II for 4 surrounds and the RP-504c for center. Was a lot of work to run additional wiring for the built in atmos parts but tomorrow after work, I want to run the DIRAC setup and let it auto calibrate and then watch the Transformers 4k [2007] movie. I hope it was all worth it! I am half falling asleep but caught the part of going back in and capping something at 500HZ... what is that and why do we do that again? What happens if we do not touch that? Thank you again!!!
That is called adding a "curtain" which tells the calibration software not to correct for frequencies above what you set it. Reason is most of the issues that need to be addressed are in the bass frequencies. Google Schroeder Frequency.
Hi, thank you for the perfect video. I watched several others and I have to keep coming back to this one to really understand and follow along. I had a question. Did you turn the subwoofer to 50% at first configuration, then to 30% during the actual test? Basically, did you change your subwoofer setting to lower level for the test, then turn it to your liking when the test was over (I like lots of bass in my music and usually turn it full blast up)
One of the most easy and clear vidz I have come across for 505 setup! You have one new subscriber!!! ... one quick question, the only place I can place my subwoofer is directly opposite my LR speakers, I have inverted the sub phase to 180 degrees, when running the dirac live, do I set it back to 0 degree or leave it as 180 degree phasing?
Thank you Calvin, I’m glad you found the video helpful. The phase control within Dirac operates the same as the physical phase switch or dial on your subwoofer. So if you set the dial on your sub to 180 and in the AVR you set it to 180, that would be the same as having both set to 0. So basically you only want to adjust the phase on one, but not both. Best to measure to see if 0, 180 or somewhere in between works best.
If you’re asking, do you need to pair it with one of those, the answer is no. I have used Denon, Marantz, Yamaha and many other processors with Klipsch speakers.
Have a question that: if my 2 main Front Left and Right speakers (also then Center) are 4 Ohms speakers, and only 2 surround speakers are 8 Ohms, in the config of impedance, which one should i choose: 4 Ohms, or 6 Ohms and Above? I'm confuse that Pioneer dont let me choose 4-16Ohms or set for individual speaker. Tks for your information!

Great video! Is it possible to select one source for the video and a different source for the audio (for primary speaker setup). For instance I want to watch a football game, but for the audio I want to either stream bluetooth, spotify or listen to phono. The particular model I'm referring to is Pioneer Elite VSX-LX305- but I assume it would be similar to this. If it's possible, how would I go about doing it? Thanks
So have a technical question, I ran the Dirac live on the lx305...and after completed, seemed like the bass was lacking on the subwoofer...did not even seem like it was outputting any signal......but without running it...and set my speakers manually...it all seemed fine...I am connected via lfe for subwoofer?
Hey would the lx 505 be a good choice for my system it is a Golden Ear xl sound bar with a super sub x and a pair of super sat 3s for a 5.1 but I will later on make it a 5.2.4 in a 21-12 room and a 8’ ceiling I will be listening to music and home theater but more 2 channel with the subs playing

Hi youth man I’ve previously set up my vsx lx 305 and am frequently getting various errors when using Dirac and cannot complete the calibration. Errors incl speaker level adjustment (which I’ve manually adjusted to be in green zone). Then I got an error about configuration mismatch which is a first. Not sure if this might be an issue with the app itself? Any advice?
Unfortunately, I did not experience that issue when setting up the 505. I would reach out to Pioneer Tech Support and see if there is something they are aware of.

Hi Youthman, I got question for you cuz i got confused when i look at pioneers official website and the device. On the back panel of this device there is 11 power out. 2 of them named as zone 2 but also labeled as selectable. So can i use it as 7.2.4 if i dont need a zone 2? Or do i need an external amp to use it as 11.2?
Hey man, love your videos as they have been very informative as to how I am building my home theater. I know this is unrelated to the content of this video (sorry), but I was wondering if the 150in 2.4:1 (or is it 2.35?) screen you have is 'overwhelming' to any guests or yourself in a room of your size. My room happens to be the same dimensions except I only have 8ft ceilings. Debating on 138" or 150" 2.4:1 at this point. My first row will also likely fall in the 9ft distance range. I have never had someone move from my front row to the back row because the screen was too big. I definitely would not go any larger or sit any closer but I love it.
I cannot rum my Pioneer Elite LX-305 Dirac Live, due to an ERROR DU1001 (network error). My receiver and my Pioneer app are conecting on the same network, and i can control my receiver from it, but Dirac Live shows me that error. Any clue guys?

I will be setting up a Pioneer VSX-LX305 soon and the setup should be very similar so this video is supper helpful. question that maybe you can answer is the included mic a calibrated one? I know it isn't too much like the UMIK-1, but wasn't sure if this version of DIRAC Live needed a calibrated mic.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong here. Same receiver and doing initial Dirac live set up. It runs though the speakers and levels are all in the green. It then starts to run the system and I get an error message. Says measurement failed because volume is too high. Turn down volume and try again. I back the Dirac master volume all the way down and it still says too high and won’t run. Someone help
If you use Dirac Live on a PC. The Umik-1 or Umik-2 will plug into your PC and Dirac Live on your PC will connect to the Pioneer through your wireless network. The Dirac Live software on the PC will give you 3 different options for measurements and more measurement points than what Dirac uses built into the Pioneer.
My issue, any ideas??: In the example I have a couch, but I primarily sit in position 2(on left seat of couch) so does this become my "main" listening position? Should I measure starting at seat 2, then 1, then 3?
I just recently purchased this AVR and noticed Dirac also wanted to set my bigger front and center speakers to large and the surrounds small, with Double bass and at 100hz (7.2.2 system 2-400w Klipsch subs). In the past I have always done as suggested with my older elite and set to small at 80hz for all speakers. However I noticed this system seems much more powerful now that I have left it where Dirac set it. I wonder if you have any more advice that would help me understand the thought process with this?
Hi, love your videos always, please can you answer this, in pioneer AVR there is one option that is phase control plus in audio parameters, which is set to 6 Millisecond and some Dolby songs and movies sounds great with that but in some videos or movies bass is missing unless I bring it to 9 millisecond, but then it looses the bass in other movies or videos, what’s the best settings for phase control plus. Please help
Thank you for the kind words. He would need to take measurements with something like the UMIk-1 and REW software or an Omnimic 2 from Dayton audio to know what’s going on when you change the settings and how it’s affecting your frequency response. Without taking measurements, you’re just guessing.

Would like a dirac setup as this for the Denon receivers, instead of the pc version. It's easier and i dont have to buy a laptop and umik mic...so denon please make a dirac app like the pioneer. 😅
That just means he did not have to add any delay to get your subwoofer time aligned with your speakers. It’s not a measure of distance it’s an amount delay.
Hey Youthman great video. I have a denon 4800H and the Dirac live costs extra with denon receivers. Did it come included with the Pioneer receiver and is it full bandwidth Dirac live? As that is even more expensive then the regular Dirac live on denon unfortunately.

My volume is in the negative when I turn it up it's slowly increases to the positive why is this it starts off like negative -40db then turn up goes to -29 up more to the positive+5 where it's Very loud why is this, should be at 0 then turn up to positive 25
Okay this is cool. I do Wonder though why all the manual adjustments. I really don't need an answer to that. Dirac is supposed to be really good, and after decades of microphone calibration in receivers, I feel this is unnecessary
he chose the simple 3 position one for the video. It had an option for one that had at least 8 positions. (Edit: sorry I thought I was replying to a 5 minute old post, should have refreshed before I commented.)
Correct. There’s no reason to show you how to do eight positions. Most people can follow a visual of where they need to place the microphone. The three was just for illustration purposes.
Good tutorial, but that's a very hot take on not choosing to correct above 500hz, and putting a curtain on it. To each their own I guess. It is a valid point though, if you want to keep the "house" sound of your speakers - the house sound of klipsch, B&W, etc. etc.
Not really a hot take, just my preference. Many agree that it's best not to let room correction adjust higher frequencies, but again, that is preference, not Gospel.
@@Youthman I just tried with my RP600M Mark 1 setup. I took away the Klipsch sound from my system LONG time ago, when I used a harman target approximation as my target curve. Lowered the curtain to 500hz. I definitely heard a difference, couldn't tell if it was good or bad initially. 30 minutes of music, still couldn't tell if I liked it or not. Launched a video game, elden ring, and instantly felt the sharp needle like sound effects hitting my ears. Probably way too bright. Music might be okay with this, but the brightness hurts with video games when a lot with high pitched sound effects. Just my take.

Dirac live! looks like a rare example of a feature which is more sophisticated, faster and easier than the previous standard, Audyssey.
I have the LX 504 and I'm very impressed with the sound either listen to music or watch tv and love the app.

If the 504c won’t fit, the smaller 404c would be your next best option

Are you able to use the Dirac Live PC application with a UMIK, or does this unit require the version shown here?

Basically, did you change your subwoofer setting to lower level for the test, then turn it to your liking when the test was over (I like lots of bass in my music and usually turn it full blast up)
I typically start at 50% gain on the sub. Then if I need more bass after calibrations, I adjust the subwoofer trim level in the AVR.
One of the most easy and clear vidz I have come across for 505 setup! You have one new subscriber!!! ... one quick question, the only place I can place my subwoofer is directly opposite my LR speakers, I have inverted the sub phase to 180 degrees, when running the dirac live, do I set it back to 0 degree or leave it as 180 degree phasing?
Thank you Calvin, I’m glad you found the video helpful. The phase control within Dirac operates the same as the physical phase switch or dial on your subwoofer.
So if you set the dial on your sub to 180 and in the AVR you set it to 180, that would be the same as having both set to 0. So basically you only want to adjust the phase on one, but not both.
Best to measure to see if 0, 180 or somewhere in between works best.
Hi Youthman! One small question: is the pairing of Klipsch with Onkyo or Pioneer or integra still a thing??
If you’re asking, do you need to pair it with one of those, the answer is no. I have used Denon, Marantz, Yamaha and many other processors with Klipsch speakers.
I love Marantz with Klipsch. I believe Onkyo actually has a setting specifically for Klipsch speakers built right into the software.

Hi Youthman what a great video. Have you tried running Dirac on a laptop and adding a house curve? I found it to be a huge difference in terms of sound between the app and running Dirac on a laptop.
Maybe I’ll try it with the Definitive Technologies speakers I have in for review.

Great video! Is it possible to select one source for the video and a different source for the audio (for primary speaker setup). For instance I want to watch a football game, but for the audio I want to either stream bluetooth, spotify or listen to phono. So have a technical question, I ran the Dirac live on the lx305...and after completed, seemed like the bass was lacking on the subwoofer...did not even seem like it was outputting any signal......but without running it...and set my speakers manually...it all seemed fine...I am connected via lfe for subwoofer?
Hey would the lx 505 be a good choice for my system it is a Golden Ear xl sound bar with a super sub x and a pair of super sat 3s for a 5.1 but I will later on make it a 5.2.4 in a 21-12 room and a 8’ ceiling I will be listening to music and home theater but more 2 channel with the subs playing

I’ve previously set up my vsx lx 305 and am frequently getting various errors when using Dirac and cannot complete the calibration. Errors incl speaker level adjustment (which I’ve manually adjusted to be in green zone). Then I got an error about configuration mismatch which is a first.
Not sure if this might be an issue with the app itself? Any advice?
Unfortunately, I did not experience that issue when setting up the 505. I would reach out to Pioneer Tech Support and see if there is something they are aware of.
You need to use HDMI 8K enhanced if you want to use a 4K 120hz console.
I would like to see a video from start to finish on how use Dirac Live and what those numbers mean. I'm still a little confuse about Dirac Live.

Hi Youthman, I got question for you cuz i got confused when i look at pioneers official website and the device. On the back panel of this device there is 11 power out. 2 of them named as zone 2 but also labeled as selectable. So can i use it as 7.2.4 if i dont need a zone 2? Or do i need an external amp to use it as 11.2?
Hey man, love your videos as they have been very informative as to how I am building my home theater. I know this is unrelated to the content of this video (sorry), but I was wondering if the 150in 2.4:1 (or is it 2.35?) screen you have is 'overwhelming' to any guests or yourself in a room of your size. My room happens to be the same dimensions except I only have 8ft ceilings. Debating on 138" or 150" 2.4:1 at this point. My first row will also likely fall in the 9ft distance range. I have never had someone move from my front row to the back row because the screen was too big. I definitely would not go any larger or sit any closer but I love it.
I can tell you if I were to sit in my back row which is 14 feet from 150 inch screen, it looks too small for me

I cannot rum my Pioneer Elite LX-305 Dirac Live, due to an ERROR DU1001 (network error). My receiver and my Pioneer app are conecting on the same network, and i can control my receiver from it, but Dirac Live shows me that error. Any clue guys?

I will be setting up a Pioneer VSX-LX305 soon and the setup should be very similar so this video is supper helpful. question that maybe you can answer is the included mic a calibrated one? I know it isn't too much like the UMIK-1, but wasn't sure if this version of DIRAC Live needed a calibrated mic.
That is the mic that’s included with the pioneer and is suitable for calibrating with Dirac Live.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong here. Same receiver and doing initial Dirac live set up. It runs though the speakers and levels are all in the green. It then starts to run the system and I get an error message. Says measurement failed because volume is too high. Turn down volume and try again. I back the Dirac master volume all the way down and it still says too high and won’t run. Someone help
It looks like you can only use the provided mic. Can you used another mic with the AVR such Umik-1?
If you use Dirac Live on a PC. The Umik-1 or Umik-2 will plug into your PC and Dirac Live on your PC will connect to the Pioneer through your wireless network. The Dirac Live software on the PC will give you 3 different options for measurements and more measurement points than what Dirac uses built into the Pioneer.

In the example I have a couch, but I primarily sit in position 2(on left seat of couch) so does this become my "main" listening position? Should I measure starting at seat 2, then 1, then 3?

It is and the app is super intuitive. You can also connect it to a computer and run Dirac that way for even more control.
I just recently purchased this AVR and noticed Dirac also wanted to set my bigger front and center speakers to large and the surrounds small, with Double bass and at 100hz (7.2.2 system 2-400w Klipsch subs). In the past I have always done as suggested with my older elite and set to small at 80hz for all speakers. However I noticed this system seems much more powerful now that I have left it where Dirac set it. I wonder if you have any more advice that would help me understand the thought process with this?

I personally prefer to run my speakers as small, even in my dedicated theater with LCR’s that have (2) 12” woofers in each speaker.

Hi, love your videos always, please can you answer this, in pioneer AVR there is one option that is phase control plus in audio parameters, which is set to 6 Millisecond and some Dolby songs and movies sounds great with that but in some videos or movies bass is missing unless I bring it to 9 millisecond, but then it looses the bass in other movies or videos, what’s the best settings for phase control plus. Please help
Thank you for the kind words. He would need to take measurements with something like the UMIk-1 and REW software or an Omnimic 2 from Dayton audio to know what’s going on when you change the settings and how it’s affecting your frequency response. Without taking measurements, you’re just guessing.

That just means he did not have to add any delay to get your subwoofer time aligned with your speakers. It’s not a measure of distance it’s an amount delay.

Hey Youthman great video. I have a denon 4800H and the Dirac live costs extra with denon receivers. Did it come included with the Pioneer receiver and is it full bandwidth Dirac live? As that is even more expensive then the regular Dirac live on denon unfortunately.
Yes, it comes included with the AVR. They typically do not tell you what version of Dirac Live they are running.

My volume is in the negative when I turn it up it's slowly increases to the positive why is this it starts off like negative -40db then turn up goes to -29 up more to the positive+5 where it's Very loud why is this, should be at 0 then turn up to positive 25

Okay this is cool. I do Wonder though why all the manual adjustments. I really don't need an answer to that. Dirac is supposed to be really good, and after decades of microphone calibration in receivers, I feel this is unnecessary

Correct. There’s no reason to show you how to do eight positions. Most people can follow a visual of where they need to place the microphone. The three was just for illustration purposes.

Good tutorial, but that's a very hot take on not choosing to correct above 500hz, and putting a curtain on it. To each their own I guess. It is a valid point though, if you want to keep the "house" sound of your speakers - the house sound of klipsch, B&W, etc. etc.
Not really a hot take, just my preference. Many agree that it's best not to let room correction adjust higher frequencies, but again, that is preference, not Gospel.
@@Youthman I just tried with my RP600M Mark 1 setup. I took away the Klipsch sound from my system LONG time ago, when I used a harman target approximation as my target curve.
Lowered the curtain to 500hz. I definitely heard a difference, couldn't tell if it was good or bad initially. 30 minutes of music, still couldn't tell if I liked it or not. Launched a video game, elden ring, and instantly felt the sharp needle like sound effects hitting my ears. Probably way too bright.
Music might be okay with this, but the brightness hurts with video games when a lot with high pitched sound effects.
Just my take.
