    I still have mine. The capacitor died years ago. If switching off via the dash cam it saves the file ok but if I cut the power via the switch I wired in then it does not save the last file properly. Once switched back the last file that did not save properly (if power was cut externally) becomes ok. Just have to remember to use the power off switch on the dash cam. The fact it is still working after 7+ years is brilliant.

    Just a matter of time before they offer a video camera/rear view mirror option in a car...May even already...All wires hidden, would look nice. I love the cinematic look with this camera. Forces the viewers eyes onto the action instead of the sky or dash. Nice quality camera and the 10, 1 minute quick saves feature is great.

    Great review , but the audio sucked big time on this camera, I hope the new Opia2 has improved as that is what I am looking at.

    In North America and some other places power is generated and used for household and industrial applications at 60Hz. On older CRT displays, if you have an video file intended for 60Hz/NTSC application and attempt to play it through a 50Hz/PAL television, it will not display properly.
    Not sure how it all works with modern computerized TV's though - but that's why it's there, I reckon.

    This is not a big dashcam at all. The video quality is the best. I use it in my car and my truck(18 wheels semi) and the quality is unmatched.
    Thanks for the review.

    Hey Techmoan ! Your reviews are the best! I'm looking at getting either the Marcus 3 or Marcus 4. It boils down to 60FPS vs the Cinema Wide Mode as well as better picture on the Marcus 4. Is 60FPS enough for me to choose the Marcus 3? Theoretically having more frames will enable a higher chance of capturing say license plates and with the new firmware update which will allow itself to switch from 60FPS to 30 FPS if the lighting is insufficient seems quite neat. I've seen many say the picture quality on the Marcus 3 isn't that great. In that respect, having more frames might not necessarily be better yes?
    Which will you pick? I think it's the Marcus 4 yes?

    • @Mooncat747
      @Mooncat747 9 років тому

      I just ordered the Marcus 4. After doing tons of reading, this seems to be the best choice. I was looking at the Wifi model but there seems to be a lot of horror stories with the dash cams that have WiFi....connection problems.
      I got my Marcus 4 off ebay for 220 Dollars.

    The 50/60hz option has to do with the frequency of the AC power of the country you're in. You wouldn't think it would matter to a battery powered device, but every light that runs on AC pulses at the same frequency as the mains power (makes sense, right?). If your camera is filming at 60fps and the lights are pulsing at 50hz you will get a *very* annoying pulsing effect. There is camera wizardry that can overcome this issue, hence the option in the menu.
    You don't typically notice it unless you travel internationally a lot.

    Hi Techmoan , good Vid , very informative . Before this i was opting for the Cobra 900 , but now I'm thinking of the Vico , Would you recommend this and is the Markus 4 one of the best on the market at present ?

    • @jamestien6761
      @jamestien6761 7 років тому

      It is one of the best on the market, especially with CPL filter option that makes video footage looked really nice. I've been using VICO since TF-2, straight for 5 years no issues at all, even parked under the sun! Already bought several Marcus 4 for my friends, all of them were impressed and satisfied.
      You won't regret once you bought it my friend.

    • @jamestien6761
      @jamestien6761 7 років тому

      One of the important things to mention is that VICO cameras using Capacitor, not the battery. That's why even working in high temp environment there is less risk.

      Thank you for coming back to me , techmoan didnt bother :( . I believe there are some Dashcams that turn on and run continuously without any input from human , ( I think its called continuos looping ?) does this Vico have that feature ?

      Yes, when u start ur car, it will start recording automatically. If your car cigarette port supports smart plug, it even can continue record for about few hours after you parked ur car.

    Hi, Matt! I've got a question, totally unrelated to video - would You mind briefly share the history behind Your channel name - "Techmoan"? Was it nickname of some sort, or just one of those last second decisions upon registring account long time ago, that you maybe blush about, since when have become popular? :)

  • @BBBYpsi
    @BBBYpsi 8 років тому

    Can you set the screen on the unit not to be turned on while recording? I personally would not want another screen on at night. All the lights from the car,gps & now a dash cam creates to much light in your car which makes you get more reflections & less vision at night.

    • @Techmoan
      @Techmoan  8 років тому

      +BBBYpsi yes 'all' dashcams have a Screensaver option...which just blanks the screen out...usually after a minimum of 30secs.

    I guess its time for me to save some money up. I have the old 0801 currently and it does good but I like this much better. I have seen the Vico 5 but it seems to be more of just an added 2nd camera. I wish Vico had added a better system to add a filter instead of the clunky quick mount but guess we can have it all

    I bought this model and I must say it performs very well in all conditions, I was worried about the lens getting damaged, I found a padded case on a well known auction site, it is made by Manfrotto (MB SCP-BB Stile Nano), the camera fits perfectly, I am not affiliated with any sellers, the person I bought it from charged £1.99 and that included next day delivery! Just a heads up for anyone with a Vico Marcus who wants to keep it safe when not in use.
    I have made a short video to show the dashcam and case together.

    Hello!!! Thank you for your videos! I downloaded the Videos from your site and I think that the quality of the camera is not that good. For example "1080p30 Day 2.mov" file is reeeeeally bad!! For a camera with a price like something less than 200 euros is not good....

    I like things that are made for commercial use. They have better chances of being built to better quality standards. I know these are supposed to be big cameras and despite that, I got the Marcus 3 on the way for my VW Jetta. If it is that big and obtrusive, try sticking it behind the mirror. On my car windshield there is some kind of black coating on the inside along the outer edges. I just attach my suction cup not on that black stuff because the camera suction cup does not hold well on that. I don't mind that it sticks out from behind the mirror, that just makes it easier for me to check its aim at a red light before I go on green. Lots of people run red lights and so I try to get the lights in the frame.
    The camera I use now while I wait for my Marcus 3 to arrive is the Cobra CDR 820 but that thing turns off unexpectedly now and then. That makes me a little nervous that when I need it more than anything, it would not have recorded. Not everyone lies but why chance it? Without that video you have to rely on other people as witnesses and they are not always there when you need them. I had a witness

  • @toleeteam
    @toleeteam 9 років тому

    No reason not to have a smaller camera. The excuse they gave you makes no sense from a marketing point of view. They eliminate a large percentage of the market by saying it is for large commercial vehicles.
    There are many companies that have smaller cameras. I think the real reason is because Vico does not have the technology to do it themselves. They also do not want to spend the money to re-tool and realign their manufacturing process. Get the most profit out of your existing set-up before revamping their products.

    Great review, thank you. That's a nice device. Like you, I'd like to see a smaller format with similar specs. If you don't mind, I'd like to talk about UA-cam's blocky images, I've done some experimenting, with bit rates. I won't pretend to know more than you do, however, try going with a higher bit rate when you compile your video. I generally encode with MPEG-2 with at least 15,000 kpbs. Here's one that I uploaded recently with those exact specs:
    ua-cam.com/video/ybSECVWYf2g/v-deo.html
    Note there are no blocky images. I'm sure you've also seen better quality video on UA-cam as well, so it would seem to me that UA-cam is capable of Vimeo quality.
    Here's a better example:
    ua-cam.com/video/rUjmmz4FqeY/v-deo.html
    I won't claim to be expert, I can only report what I've seen. Thanks for your reviews, please keep them coming.
