Getting Started With Maschine+: Control, Sample and Sequence your Hardware Synths

- In this video, we take you through how to setup Native Instruments' Maschine+ to control, play and sequence your hardware gear. We look at the MIDI mapping templates and how the audio is routed with the Maschine+ at the centre of your studio set-up. We also look at how to automate synth parameters, resample internal audio with added Maschine+ effects.
Maschine+ has a powerful sequencer and controller to control all your external hardware synths and drum machines. Maschine+ will integrate better with your hardware studio setup making it the ultimate hub between you and your existing hardware gear. Native Instruments have created plenty of MIDI mapping templates for popular synths and drum machines allowing quick and easy control of synths - allowing you to play the sounds via the pads and control external hardware parameters using Maschine+ encoders. We love this workflow as it means easy integration of hardware synths into your creative workflow and process, including sounds, effects and more!
In this video we use:
Native Instruments Maschine+
Korg Volca FM
Korg minilogue xd
Roland JU-06A
Soundcraft Notepad 12FX desktop mixer
MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru

I just wanted to say thank you as this is super helpful. You've likely saved me many, many hours of head scratching. Cheers! 😊

Cheers, appreciate the support
Wow! The factory preset of mapping to external gear is very exciting. That's a game changer for me.
I think the possibilities this opens up for resampling from my many outboard instruments are huge. Many thanks.
Great video. Thanks for creating all this great content for Maschine+ users. 👊🏼👊🏼🔥
Great video! Bought one yesterday 😄
Nice video ! Thank you :)
Cheers, thanks for the feedback
Great video - would this be the principle to get my TD3 to sync with my Maschine Plus?
very informative, but where do i define the cc values in maaschine+ for instruments which are not listed in the presets?
I have the same question
Since Ableton Live 12 i sold my Maschine today.@@midi-ocher
Great video, I'm thinking about buying the Maschine+ for my synth setup and this helps a lot.
I have a few questions and hopefully you can answer them:
- Will the cc settings of each synth be initialized and sent to the synthesizers when a project is loaded or is it possible to store cc patches which can be sent with one click?
- Is it possible to extend the number of audio input channels (e.g through an USB audio interface)? If so, are there restrictions on how such inputs can be used (routing them through the effect plug-ins etc.)?
- Is it possible to create own knob assignments if there is no preset for a specific synth?
Thank you and keep on these tutorials :)
great video. so useful for my setup! thx.
btw: what camera are you using for the top-view? (I like the low distortion edges!)
Hey we used a Panasonic Lumix G85
Cool video. I have a Moog Matriarch and Roland TB-03 Bassline synth. Is there midi mapping available for those two on the maschine +? Or is a list anywhere online of all the Manufacturers/synths available to be mapped? I looked through the manual but didn't find any info.
Hi Greg, There's is a mapping for the Roland TB-03 but none that we can see for the Moog Matriarch. However, it's still possible to sync and play the Matriarch using MIDI.
Helpful video. Subbed.
Is there a way to create your own CC mapping for most any midi instrument, or are you limited to the presets?
At this stage, it doesn't appear possible to create your own custom mappings from Maschine+ (fingers crossed for a software update ay) however it is possible when using the Maschine Software on your computer, you'll just need to consult your synths user manual and MIDI implementation chard.
would i be able to send midi from a vst like ripchord from my daw to maschine using the pads on maschine to trigger it ?
Why can’t we have MicroFreak mapping!?
How do you get the MASCHINE plus to act as a midi controller in Ableton?
On reboot, will the patch (program change) be remembered? If not we will have to take notes and put it in the project folder...weird because you can use program change to switch scenes, sections and snapshots into maschine from a daw or other midi sequencer. We can enter a program change, preferably at the start of the arrangement now (was maybe not yet implemented) because you have to give the midi/synth time to load the patch,so preferably a bar or so in the beginning with silence and only program change sending should work,i think? Anyone have experience if that works now? thx for the vid also 👌👌👌🥳🥳🥳.
Oh and forgot the most important,to program program changes you: make the velocity lane visible if not,and pull it a bit bugger. Click the midi symbol under velocity click the +. It will say not assigned. Right click on not assigned, and you will get a list of the general midi cc´s and other. Program change is the 2nd one in the list. Click the pencil, set to bar, and drag a line at the program change nr of your patch. That´s it! 😀
Nice video, thanks 😊
Can I ask. Is it possible to use the minilogue keys to control expansions in maschine plus as I cant figure out how to do that. Also if I got a volca can I control that too with the keys but also running through maschine. Cheers
It's possible to play the sounds loaded on Maschine+ pads using the Minilogue's Key. Just connect the MIDI output from the Minilogue to the MIDI input on Maschine+
I tried that with no luck. Thought there must be a setting somewhere
Hi, thank you for your video (subscribed, liked). Have you ever tried connecting to the USB A host ports a synth that has a built-in class compliant sound card ? Are the audio in's showing up on the Maschine+ and can you listen and capture audio of the synth digitally through them ? Thinking of Elektron or some of the Roland synths that do provide that generic/class compliant option. We could also imagine connecting the studio's main multi-track mixer if it has a class compliant audio card. That would be awesome if it works with synths and studio mixers.
Probably too late but the answer is yes and yes.
Hey ! Is it possible to do the same setup but with an audio interface instead of the mixer ? Thank u :)
sure
Can you cue any of the hardware audio inputs on headphones? Dj style?
Hi, there are no cue-style headphone monitoring options that we can see.
Does is have drum sounds built in?
Yes there are a lot of drum sounds available
This doesnt work in controller mode. You have to be in standalone for midi ports to behave in this way.
a typo, hilarious
That second chord from the minilogue is so out of tune 🤢🤢🤮🤮
