    Little advice from someone that does a lot of cabinetry finishing with pressure feed hvlp pot sprayers with dual regulators.
    An AAA unit is basically nothing more than 2 different sprayers in one unit. 1- An airless paint sprayer that works by use of high pressure pushing the fluid to the gun and through through a small orifice (the spray tip). 2- An HVLP which uses lower pressure to push the fluid through the tip while air is coming out of separate ports to break the fluid down to smaller particles atomizing them.
    Although I have not had the pleasure of using an AAA setup; however, when using the air assist (compressor) with the airless, it's the same principle as setting up a pressure feed hvlp sprayer. First you setup the fluid pressure. note: you are doing this same procedure with the AAA with the compressor off in its airless spray mode. Next you set your atomizing air pressure. Note with an AAA unit this is with the compressor turned on. However, when you are setting the air pressure, you are making a very common mistake. You are not setting the air pressure to the gun. In order to have the proper air pressure set to the gun, you need to hold your gun trigger down while adjusting the psi. Example: If you only adjusting the compressor regulator to 30psi without holding the gun trigger down, you most likely to only have 10psi going into the gun. Thus, you will not be achieving true hvlp result because the fluid is not being atomized properly.
    Reason bringing this up is that when you ran the air assist test passes, I noticed that they were extremely wet. Which is a sign of to much fluid flow (fluid pressure) or not enough air pressure to the cap.

      @grubbetuchus 4 роки тому

      The fluid is delivered to the tip by hydrolic pressure. It's pushed out of the tip by the same hydrolic pressure, and it's that tip that atomizes the fluid. The air that comes through the air cap (supplied by the air compressotr) ONLY elim inates the tails in the fan. Nothing else. You set the air either by using the gauge or by "feel". If you use too much air through the air cap, the tails in the fan are still eliminated, but ther finish tennds to dry on the air cap, eventually clogging the air cap. You keep dialing up the air until your tails disappear. It's that simple. First you set your fluid ptressure? How much? When you get a good shape that is properly atomized, that's how much. You will have tails, and that's what your compressed air is for, to eliminate those tails and it has nothing at all to do with the quality your atomized fan other than to get rid of those tails. Hope this helps.
      To adjust your pressure pot, first set your fluid pressure. How much? Trigger the gun (no air to the gun) and get a stream that shoots out and arcs 1.5' to 3' from the gun. TYhen dial in the atomizing air to get a decently atomized fan. It's that simple.

    i have a air assist 395 graco with g40 , i have tried the flat tip and its hopeless it blocks faster than i can spray, its new, and i thin the material for ease of spraying, i have no trouble using a 208 green tip ive been in the trade for years and this is my 2nd unit, i keep them spotless , any ideas please ,you are not using the flat tip

    Definitely easier to get a perfect finish with the air assist. If anyone already has an airless and an air compressor, you can just use an air assist gun, hook both lines to it and play with settings. Even a cheap air assist gun works nicer than just an airless or than conventional spray for latex.

    Do airless sprayers spray thicker paint better than air assisted airless? I'm spraying Benjamin moore command. I have an anest iwata 17:1 and my tips keep clogging while painting. I have a new gun filter and Ive used 513, 515 and 419 tip... 45 psi on the fluid and 15psi on the air side and i can never get these perfect pattern sprays i see everyone getting on UA-cam. It's very frustrating. I also notice graco seem to spray at a higher pressure than other sprayers. I'm at 45x17=765 psi and your at 1200.

    I spray a fair bit with air assisted airless Wagner , but it only oil so far because of what the builders specify, also I use a extra air regulator on the gun , hand for setting up and if you change the spray fan size. Is there any water based enamel that can compare the gloss level of oil, anyway mate great videos 👍

      Artie6937 honestly, I’ve not found any pure acrylic enamels that rival the sheen and durability of oil. However, both SW Emerald Trim Urethane and BM Advance have very low Lustre options. Great look and durability that rivals oil.

    Would you say spraying with your hvlp set up would take you a lot longer to spray your kitchen, against your air assisted airless sprayer.

    Great video,found you from the PDCA site. Just a quick question tho. What do you find the advantage of the 395 AA over the HVLP? With my Titan HVLP I can adjust the pattern size down to about 3" when I'm spraying the front of my cabinet boxes. Where the 395 you have a fixed pattern depending on tip size.

    • @AskaPainterLive
      @AskaPainterLive  7 років тому

      Its a production machine compared to the HVLP. Also, the air from the turbine/compressor does not heat us as much as an HVLP. There are benefits to both, as well as the tried and true pure airless.

    Hi Nick awesome video I think one of the best. I have a simple question, do you thin the BM Advance ? If yes what tip size you use? If you don't, what tip size? Thanks

    • @AskaPainterLive
      @AskaPainterLive  7 років тому +1

      supermazingerz72 no thinning. Try either the 210 FFLP or the TR2 310-but greatly depends on your pump/pressure.

    Hi Nick, I'm using an air assisted airless Graco Merkur 45:1 for kitchen cabinet components (in workshop not assembled) we have the items on a raised turntable, we are getting overspray on the backface. How do I avoid overspray?

    Do you know if there is a way 2 drain the air compressor on a finish pro 395 I'm having problems with moisture getting into the air at the gun just got this machine a few days ago it came with a inline moisture trap but it fills up really quick. thanks for any insite you may have .

    • @AskaPainterLive
      @AskaPainterLive  6 років тому

      John Braud very odd. Only a few days old? I’d try running a dehumidifier in your work area if that’s the case. Also track down a humidity gauge to see what the space is at. It’s not a problem I’ve encountered, but call your Graco rep and he’ll have advice.

    • @QuiK075

      If you have the first generation that might be your issue. They adapted a separate filter moist trap on this new 2nd gen which. Contact Graco for more info about it

    Hey I have the same machine and I am trying to spray Sherwin William’s Kep oil paint on some metal shutters how much psi do you think I need to be at and how much should I have the compressor at should I be at 1200/30 or should it be 1000 / 30 please let me know

    • @AskaPainterLive
      @AskaPainterLive  5 років тому

      Master Painting try compressor at 15psi to start. Try 800 psi line pressure. You should have tails until the air compressor is triggered.

    I’ve never had to take doors off of cabinets to shoot em! I still use flat tips and oil base enamel. I’ve been spraying along time and learned from guys that have done it at the highest level for many many years. I also take that stupid tip guard off all my guns. I don’t like how paint builds up on them! The art is to know what to spray when to spray it. Well that and learn how to look at the material as your spraying. Keep it wet my son!!

      Yeah I’ve my unit is kind of made up, however I did have the air assisted airless than the compressor died than I took it out of the kart , it’s a Wagner f 230 , now using a separate silent compressor run a hose to the f230 , I also I’ve got a another air regulator with a gauge on the spray gun , because if I’m using different length air hose and its handy if you change the fan size and just general set up

    Would it be better to use my Apollo turbine with warm air, or my air compressor that would shut off intermittently if I were to get a AAA gun to use in combination with my Graco airless?

    • @grubbetuchus
      @grubbetuchus 4 роки тому

      You cannot use your turbine to supply air to the air-assisted airless gun. Your turbine does not have enough pressure (PSI) to get rid of the tails made by the gun.

    What is material consumption compared to a standard airless using a Graco fflp tip

    • @AskaPainterLive
      @AskaPainterLive  6 років тому

      John Mc Morrow I haven’t found a significant decrease, and certainly nothing that affects the price of a job. If it takes 4 gallons to prime a kitchen with airless, it might take 3.6 gal with FFLP.

    • @johnmcmorrow3273
      @johnmcmorrow3273 6 років тому +1

      Ask a Painter Live interesting I am currently using Gracos gx19 with fflp tips and even with this and the decreases in pressure that goes with you still need to be quick and limited to once chance or it builds up very quickly. I am seriously considering purchasing the 395 do you think I should bite the bullet and go for it especially when it comes to cabinet finishes.

    This video is a record of one painter's idiosyncrasies and insignificant preferences in the event that he gets dementia or has his memory wiped by cyborgs. What is the purpose of this? There's very little helpful info for the viewer and tons of info on the current state of his familiarity with all the knobs, past comfort levels with the knobs, and speculation on future mastery of those knobs--variables--all given at the pace he prefers...and (of course) exactly why he prefers that pace. Lame, dude.
