This is why I like Mike's channel. I'd hardly call Fossil a niche company, but a review for a product like this is pretty uncommon for techtubers, but really valuable for the type of consumer I am.
I've got one of the Skagen versions of the Fossil Hybrid HR with the epaper display and nobody ever can tell it's a smart watch, but I can still read all my notifications, music control, and everything
How do you like it so far? I'm considering either the Skagen or the Fossil Hybrid HR. Having doubts about which one would be better in functionality and ease of use. The Skagen is new and maybe better because of that, whereas the Fossil had some time for updates and such? What are your thoughts on this?
@@UltraBeatZ I had the same thought, the thing is, Fossil is the parent company letting Skagen put out a version of their watch. It's kind of like Google's phones getting android sooner. Skagen watches get updates later than the fossil ones do. But to be honest, it's a pretty negligible wait Also, one minor thing that really annoys me is that my brother has a Fossil Hybrid HR and I have a Skagen, they both have the same software with their "fitness challenge" function that lets you compete with other Hybrid HR users. We really wanted to try it, but Skagen and Fossil users cant play against each other. It's honestly a very minor complaint though. I think the watch is fantastic and would highly recommend it. I wouldn't expect it to be superior to the Fossil in any technical sense though. I picked it because I liked the styles more
Thanks for this content. New subscriber and I really like how thorough and effective your reviews are. My last hybrid watch was the Martian which was novel but left me wanting due to charging cable and battery life so I went back to analog. This new Fossil seems to tick a lot of boxes that a hybrid should have: 1. Long battery life with cheap replacement battery option (1 year, WOW!) 2. Stylish and rugged 3. Good app design 4. Interesting capabilites (I'm especially impressed with the commute tracking; I live in the DC area where commuting is a $itch) 5. Fitness tracking 6. Simple but effect music controls 7. Strong water resistance 8. Price (only $160 right now!) Finally, I'm really impressed with the fact that this watch works well with both Android and Apple platforms. Very few watches do this to my knowledge. I'm an Android user by nature, but my work is forcing me to use an Apple phone so the fact that this will work with both equally as well is really novel. Couple quick questions: 1. Speaking of fitness tracking how well does this watch actually track steps? I like that it has the ability to calibrate and or recalibrate if necessary. 2. Will you be providing a 1 month use video? If so, I'll hold off on purchasing this to get that feedback from you. ps - thanks for the heads up on purchasing a WearOS watch right now with your other video. Definitely staying away from that until more options are available that are compatible with a WearOS 3 upgrade. To me, the Ticwatches with the Snapdragon 4100 that are future proof are not very pleasing to my eye considering the price.
Answering your questions - Steps are close enough during a walk, but I did not test an all day accuracy test (e.g. for erroneous steps counted which were actually me moving my hands or something) 2. I will not be posting a 1 month later review unfortunately. I just have too many watches to test this time of year. Sorry :(
Unfortunately I am not been able to buy the watch from their website, I am getting an error all the time, I have contacted their customer support but they were not helpful !
I was ready to write a sassy comment about why hybrid watches aren’t worth it but then heard you say this battery can last an entire year....ok I get the appeal now hahah
Yea it's very niche product and I had one before. I love the analogue look, so timeless and beautiful than any smartwatch with digital watchface while at the same time, I still got some essential smart features that I really need like step & sleep tracking, media control and notifications that lasts very long time. Although mine has broken not too long ago sadly. Now using Galaxy Fit 2, good fitness band but still miss my Fossil hybrid tho ...
Gotta look at the Fossil Hybrid HR that the face is customizable, actually read notifications on the watch, change complications, 3 day ext weather & 2nd location, respond to phone calls via canned messages. It is so much better than this watch. Plus 2 - 3 week battery life and quick charge.
Just came across this channel while trying to know more about this interesting device and blown away by the quality. We need more tech youtubers covering all types of interesting tech coming up rather than making the millionth review of the same 2-3 flagship phones.
bought this watch on a very good deal recently (as a birthday gift).. love the aviator look & feel. your video gave very good in-depth features of it.. usefull. keep it up
I bought this watch as I love the retro design. The main issue I had with this watch was that it would not pair with my Google Pixel 6a until the January 2023 patch came, and then all of a sudden it worked having bought it in November 2022. It did connect to my Oppo Reno2 immediately which made me think it was the Pixel rather than my watch as Fossil had me believe. I have not had any missed notifications yet, although that is all dependent on the phone. We all know that our phones can suddenly stop receiving them for some unknown reason until we wake our phones and then we are bombarded by 1001 notifications at once. I also own a Fossil Gen 5e with the brown leather, and given my usage of that over the past year, I should have just bought a Hybrid watch back then instead.
Hey bro, u r doing a great job, keep it up. Great job with this review, man! You were comprehensive and this Fossil hybrid smart watch was introduced well. This hybrid smart watch looks classy, rugged, and functional at the same time. Fossil did well in integrating these aspects of a watch with their product. I hope you will do more of these watch reviews. It is an accessory/wearable technology that would be great if given more attention. Keep it up! God bless you, man.
I had an early Skagen Hybrid watch and found the notification system (hands pointing to numbers)very easy to adjust to. I am thinking of going back to that sort of watch from the full smart watch I have now.
I love your videos. They get to the point of what people really want to know about tech. Will you be going over the new Jabra line when they are released?
I've been a fan & user of fossil hybrid watch now for almost 4 years. I had a hybrid similar to one reviewed & then swapped it for a fossil hybrid HR. I loved both and the only reason I'll leave the fossil hybrid for anything else is if they don't come out with a color e-ink version of the Hybrid HR soon. The hybrid HR is great at what it is supposed to do apart for a few bugs and believe color e-ink technology is already out there. Im really not sure why Fossil has not released one yet so that I can upgrade
Hi Mike, Thank you for this video! I got really interested in hybrid smartwatches thanks to you. I know it's not a trivial comparison, but between Galaxy Watch 4 and Garmin Vivomove Style, what would you choose for everyday usage? I'm a bit concerned with the need to charge Galaxy Watch 4 daily. The features I'm interested in: NFC payments, notifications about important messages from my work apps (such as Slack, etc.), calendar notifications, running and gym tracking, music/podcast controls, sleep tracking. That's pretty much it and both watches seem to do the job, and cost around the same. What would be your personal preference?
removable batteries are probably best for this watch. If you had to charge it more often then a rechargeable one would be better as it would cost less and be more convenient. But since you only have to change the battery once a year, the removable is better so the watch will last longer
Thank you for your review. I bought this watch from a fossil store in Mumbai, India. After your review I purchased it. However, the battery keeps draining and I had to change the batteries twice in last 4 months. What should I do? It's expensive to buy battery every month.
I have been wanting to buy a smart watch for some time now, but I like my fossil watch and didnt want to switch. This hybrid watch seems like the best of both world cause it looks like my current watch and is also smart. Thanks for the review, cause i would never have discovered this product otherwise.
