    I think most reviewers are missing the point with the WearOS 3 update: How will the watches perform AFTER the update? There needs to be a second look review. I think it's not a big deal that the watch runs WearOS 2 as long as it gets a decent update but on the other hand seeing app support being pulled this fast is alarming especially for older watches.

    Don't bother doing a revisiting video on this one. Wear OS 3 broke it. Here's the highlights:
    Watch now uses its own Fossil App...which is kinda garbage over the Wear OS app, and basically an advertisement platform for their real watches.
    Google assistant is gone.
    That Google side feed thing....gone, replaces with just another way to see the lack of tiles they offer you.
    Still missing BASIC stock apps like a calculator or a calendar.
    Still no companion apps for even things like Gmail, FB messenger, etc ( all things we used to have back when SmartWatches were around saying the Moto 360 days)
    Amazon Alexa works...but needs to reconnect almost every time...which takes 30 sec...might as well use your phone or your own voice.
    2/3 of the watch faces have been removed for "space" or some garbage, instead of just giving you the option to remove the ones you don't want.
    Wanna use faces from the pre installed Facer app? Go ahead, but almost every watch face flickers like its at a NYC after hours club...white watch faces are the absolute worst for this.
    Battery drain seems to have increased. With All Health apps deleted, wifi off, nfc off, raise to wake off,volume off...basically everything off accept always on display and using a watch face from facer, putting the watch on at 10:30 am....it was near death and switched its mode by around 9:30ish that night.. that was with minimal use just clearing applications and I think I used the NFC once to make a payment and then turned it off directly after... so battery life has decreased. ( and no it has nothing to do with how long I've had my watch because I've only had it for a couple of weeks)
    Unless you set your battery option to change at 10%...it'll just randomly decide to change it...sometimes at 20%....sometimes 15%....once it didn't enable it at all... so it's inconsistent or based on your usage which I don't really think it is..
    The new OS 3 on this watch clearly looks like it was designed for a square watch face even down to when you scroll through your notifications you can see that they are rounded Corner boxes that are just Blended in to the black background to blend in with the large bezel these contain.. ( which I still don't understand why any high-end watch company has a thick bezel like that when I tech company like Samsung can make a watch that doesn't have one🤷‍♂️)
    Basically if you didn't take the update yet don't bother.

    Man, this Google-Samsung partnership is really starting to look like Google abandoning Wear and handing it to Samsung.
    I gotta feel bad for Fossil, they've basically carried Wear on their back for the last 3 years and for their effort they're getting shafted. The Gen4 was my first ever smartwatch and made me fall in love with Google's smartwatch platform. Now, we get unreliable communication from Google, continual delays and questions being raised, and for what? More apps on the Galaxy watches? We still don't have anything resembling a timeframe for WOS3 on Ticwatch, much less Moto or Fossil!

    • @wmurch3
      @wmurch3 3 роки тому +9

      totally agree... however maybe they are waiting to release the pixel watch before turning over wearos 3 to other manufacturers? getting it on the Samsung watches gives app vendors motivation to improve their apps in the meantime. idk... I'm probably wrong

    • @theColeHardTruth
      @theColeHardTruth 3 роки тому +10

      @@wmurch3 I don't know, if that was the case then wouldn't they be motivated to give it to Samsung and Fossil at the same time? Or at least closer? (As in, less than a year apart, as they seem to be doing now?) And even then, why not announce a project? Surely getting the hype started early by announcing a Pixel watch alongside the Samsung partnership would be a good idea? Then they're at least pretending to have faith in the OS...
      To me this seems just like Google is announcing they're giving up, but trying to make it look like the exact opposite. "Eat their cake and have it too," if you will...

    • @benjmiester
      @benjmiester 3 роки тому +13

      I think you might be right. It's funny I was just thinking the same thing with the Nexus program and what's happening with the Pixel. I know Samsung was technically the first Nexus manufacturer, but it seemed like Google had LG doing the heavy lifting for years and years and then HTC as well... they ate HTC's guts out and destroyed them, put LG out of the phone business, and then cancelled the best spec for your dollar lineup that was the Nexus for the wannabe iPhone Pixel line. I'm glad we got the camera know how from that, so it's not a total loss. But now it seems like they're basically doing like Wear and just kind of handing the keys to that back to Samsung as well in a way with them making Google's new chip and camera sensor apparently for the new Pixel. Could be a good in the end, Samsung makes some ok stuff but it is pretty shitty how they did these other companies along the way.

    • @wmurch3
      @wmurch3 3 роки тому +4

      @@theColeHardTruth you could be right... I honestly have no idea what Google is thinking half the time (and I don't think they do either). The Samsung partnership is really strange the more I think about it. It doesn't really showcase Wear Os 3 at all and doesn't even have Google Assistant... The bedrock of any Google device. Google must have come to Samsung and met all of their demands to save them from themselves.

    • @theColeHardTruth
      @theColeHardTruth 3 роки тому +5

      @@wmurch3 That's what I'm thinking. And while it would have been a shame to do so, if they had just announced that they're giving the keys to Samsung it would have at least been some sort of self-aware acknowledgement and a lot more respectful to those who they've essentially been ignoring all these years...
      My dream would have been for Google to give the keys for Fossil instead; their battery optimizations and under-the-hood improvements to WOS2 have done well to patch the OS to be great IMO. In case you couldn't tell I really don't like the way Samsung operates and much prefer the way Fossil handles their operations, but even I have to admit there's no way that Google would partner with them.

    • @BlacklistBill
      @BlacklistBill 3 роки тому +6

      Agree with @cstavaru about Samsung being the gold standard for battery life. What was bizarre was their last Tizen effort. They had been making 3-5 day watches for years and I was ready to buy the Samsung watch 3 (I think it was that) until I found out that the battery took a huge step backward.
      And Fossil and everyone else is still/forced to use these garbage snapdragon chips. The 4100+ is built on a 12nm process, whereas the galaxy WearOS watch uses a exynos w920 built on a 5nm process. That's why Samsung is able to build a WearOS watch that's 9.8mm thick and I'll be shocked if the gen 6 is any thinner than 12mm (couldn't find anyone providing that dimension, but the gen 5 was 12mm thick). The "next-gen" snapdragon 5100 is also shaping up to be a dumpster fire. I'm always surprised that Qualcomm's platforms for the one platform that needs better battery life even more than smartphones is relegated to these large die process, battery hog chips. Screw you Qualcomm and the 🐎 you rode in on.

    I have to be honest, between the WearOS situation, the Apple Watch being pretty much locked down to Apple's ecosystem, and my own watch preferences (at least having analogue hands, without exception), I just can't get excited for smartwatches. They're neat - the reason I keep watching smartwatch reviews is _because_ they're neat, and I think they genuinely benefit people, but for me, they're just not what I want at this point in time. I've spent time using them too, but they're just not for me.
    Maybe one day we'll get a proper smartwatch (not those "hybrid" ones that don't do a lot extra) with a screen over top of a genuine clock mechanism, whose features work on whatever phone you want to pair it with instead of some arbitrary limitations Samsung implies aren't there but definitely are, but until then, I'll likely just keep admiring them from afar.

      IMO, the Apple Watch makes sense to be a square (every other product except for the HomePod, AirTags, Magic Mouse, and AirPod line up is). What upsets me is Fitbit (a Google company) still using the square when circles are just better looking. Not to mention Fitbits are still on that clunky and ugly excuse of an app.
      Same thoughts with Oppo and it's smartwatch offering, which is arguably the most beautiful of the Square Smartwatch Group, taking heavy relation to an Oppo phone with it's curved screen. But it makes sense for Oppo to keep the 4 sided approach (unlike Fitbit), since they use a extremely customized version of Android for their wristphone offerings in China, so instead of suffering to try to make Android work in 360°, they just skin WearOS (if I remember correctly from MrMobile's review of the Oppo watch) to look like that Asia-based variant.
      The watch-esque Fruit that goes on your arm (Apple Watch), it's not ugly, but it's not the most beautiful, espeicially in comparision to the Skagen Falster 3 (my personal favorite from Fossil and Friends.). I doubt the iPhone maker will make a circular watch soon since watchOS is too old to completely redesign the entire operating system. *(EDIT: I mean it's too ingrained, so if Apple wanted a round watch, the OS would have to be completely redesigned from the ground up)* Though, if they do take such a challenge, the fruit's smartwatch design would skyrocket.
      PS. Finding new ways of saying smartwatch, circle, and square is very hard and I find it annoying when someone uses one singular word 100 times. So enjoy sayings like "wristphones" and "Android in 360°" instead LOL.

      @@TheMrMobile well Samsung probably pushed for some exclusivity. I'm wondering if there's more to this. There's been one glaring problem with WearOS that no amount of software can fix. Lousy hardware, specifically from QUALCOMM. The 3100 was barely better than what came before and the 4100 while better is still way way behind apple silicon. Sammy for better or worse is making a more compelling watch SoC with a newer process. Now combine this with a supposed pixel watch and you can see why WearOS 3 isn't coming out till next year for a limited amount of current watches. Google I think is ready to give QUALCOMM a giant middle finger to their lackluster lip service to WearOS.

    Will be buying one of these and a Pixel 6 as a replacement for my Apple Watch Series 4 & iPhone X, both are a few gens old at this point and the batteries are starting to wear out. as well as I'm moving back to Android as the Apple devices don't fit in with the rest of the tech I use these days, so Android makes more sense for me now. When researching what watch I wanted to replace my Apple Watch, it was a tough decision since the Apple watch is excellent, but this has to be the best Wear OS device on the market. Not interested in the new Samsung watch despite it also now being Wear OS, it's not as nice looking (style is important in a watch) and even though it's running Wear OS 3, I dislike the Samsung UI on top, it's the reason I avoid their phones too. Like the Pixel I'm going to pair it with, I want a pure Android experience and I feel that the Fossil watches offer the best pure Wear OS experience in a very nice looking package. Shame it won't get Wear OS 3.0 until next year.

    Fossil didn't fix this issue (charging circles coming loose) the way I wanted. I'll wait to see if people have the same trouble with it. How I wanted them to fix it? put the 4 pins on the watch, and the half circles on the charger. The issue with the earlier gens is water, sweat, and other liquids would slowly cause the circles to separate from the body. I hope they did fix it, but I'm probably done with their watches.

    that ofcourse meaning if they release a design like the gen 5 as this particular gen 6 is just well i wouldn't say ugly but not for me compared to that pretty silver one next too it that plastic back is also not looking very attractive, so design wise samsung is better compared to that one

    I've been an Android Wear user since the LG G Watch R and I love my smart watches. My current Fossil Gen 5 has been my "checks all the boxes" watch for a while now. My one gripe with it is the rotating crown gets very gummed up over time with no feasible way to fix that other than contacting Fossil and sending my unit in for repair (usually takes a month or so). On the other side of things, I've always loved the fluidity of the Samsung watches and especially the rotating bezel but could not stand to part with Google Assistant. I was hoping Fossil would adopt the rotating bezel and bring Wear OS 3 to the Gen 6 at launch. I think the new Samsung watch needs a fair bit of software love to get things to where I want but would be my choice over the Fossil. Gen 6 seems to be my Gen 5 with bumped specs and different shell.

I have an LG V35 so I wouldn't get all the health benefits from the Galaxy Watch so I feel like I'd be paying a premium I won't be able to use. The TWP3 battery and second display look really appealing, but not sure how reliable and buggy the watch will get overtime. I've been using the TW E for the last few years and need a serious upgrade. Anyone know exactly what can't be used on the Galaxy Watch if you're a non Samsung user and anyone who doesn't use a Samsung have the new Galaxy Watch 4? What's your thoughts? Hearing you have to sign up and download multiple apps which sounds annoying... Side note, I use Google Pay and Google Fit so not sure how that's implemented into the Galaxy Watch 4. Cheers!

    Is Wear OS 3 such a big deal over 2.3 when the SD 4100+ can run it well? I mean Mr Mobile said it himself that it dose run well beside tiny bugs and battery life is on pair with competition. Wouldn't recommend buying fossil from personal experience, bought a Gen 4, it was fine for the first month or so but then became incredibly slow and almost unusable. I sent it back to them for repairs, when it came back it was still just as unusable. I sent it back again and got a replacement, this again worked for about a month before it stopped charging and the back fell off. However, this time it was out of warranty, so they couldn't repair it, and I couldn't justify paying to repair it given that I knew it would just send up slow and unusable again.
    Maybe they've changed, but I certainly won't be buying a fossil smart watch again. I own an analogue fossil watch which works perfectly and I use daily. And a hybrid which is again perfect but just needs a new battery at the moment.

      Contrary to those earlier replies, this isn't a Tizen-vs-Wear OS thing (as I said in the video, the Wear OS-powered TicWatch Pro 3 can last 3 days on a charge). The Galaxy Watch 3 was the first to really take a dive on battery life, and it still ran Tizen. Reason for the reduction in endurance is because Samsung wanted to make it smaller, so it included a much smaller battery starting with GW3.
