+vasilis vks same!! I can't believe people have the patience to plan, take ref photos, draw, scan, paint digitally, print, sketch, and paint all over again...
Not only is the finished painting absolutely beautiful, but this is probably the most concise, direct, practical and useful art instructional video I've ever seen, regardless of the medium. To say "Well done" would be a huge understatement. And you managed to do it in 10 minutes. Wow. And on top of it all you're in here answering questions. I'm sure I speak for alot of us when I say "THANK YOU!!!" Sincerely.
I am in shock...... I remember in 2012... I found this video when it first uploaded... and I never have been able to find it since...and randomly it appeared on my suggested videos right now. This video was one of the tipping points for me to finally decide how to learn to draw and what kind of art I wanted to make. Thank you for your talent and sharing your work with us admirers and artists.
Painting was very impressive, but when I learned that you were also the artist behind the music towards the end of the video, I was in total awe. What pure perfection!
Definitely a lot of hours. I've had some comments about some of my initial preparatory steps being too long and unnecessary. This is sort of true- I could have coated the original drawing with matte medium and painted directly on it. The reason I didn't is so I could preserve the drawing as a separate piece, and make the final painting larger. Also re-drawing (even tracing your own drawing) has a way of helping fix proportion issues earlier on, rather than dealing with them in paint.
My god this is breath taking. I really love your technique with the overcoat on the pencil first which gave the finish look that really interesting texture over everything. Yet even though it had that texture, the way you mixed your mediums together really gave it a still very refined, soft and creamy look. It's amazing
I'd like to thank you for showing the digital side of your process. Perhaps it's me, but I find not many artist process & technique videos will go into that portion of it, so it left me feeling inadequate. Seeing the outcome of your painting thru your processes, gave me validity. Thank you. I hope you have kept painting through the years.
I cannot decide which I am more impressed with, your skill as a painter or your ability to compose/design. This was just beautifully executed in every way and I would not change a thing, coming from fellow artist that means a lot (you know what I mean).
Certainly! I put a large amount of acrylic paint out on the palette so there's less surface area to get dried out by air exposure, and as I'm working I constantly mix in wet matte medium. You can see a quick shot of the messy acrylic palette at 4:01 with the massive splotch of matte medium on the right.
Very cool! Glad to see that I am not the only one who underpants in acrylic. Nicely produced video as well, and you also did the music.Talent. Thanks for sharing.
Melody handeland i work with acrylics not oil paints, but my best guess is the fact that it gives an idea of where the colours go without bleeding through.
incredible!1 month ago i was speaking about you looking a magic:the gatering card.the most amazing thing of magic are your ilustration!absolutly!!!and now casually i'm watching your video...but ever i thought that you were an old........!hahaha..thank you for your work.maybe one day i could work at your side.now that you were one of my greatest sources of inspiration
mars violet used by Norman Rockwell, analogous to the crimson/blk for underpainting. I can't say I will ever approach a painting with the finesse of a German engineer but it would behoove me to spend more time in prep. Paintings are often apt to fail regardless and succeed when least expected. Beautifully done. Thank you.
Ohhh… your process stuns me. You go to such lengths!!! I need to get with the program. I know that. I’ve been so lazy. THANK YOU for this. Beautiful work, of course.
I can't thank you enough for showing me all these steps. I work with pencil and charcoal and have always been afraid to step outside of my comfort zone. I have never seen a step by step like this...I really hope you make more. I'm writing this only 3 minutes in...and can't wait to watch the rest. Everything is beautoful! Much appreciation and respect - Russell
cynthia, I love your work, too bad you haven't posted any more process videos. You have inspired me to become a better artist ever since 2012... I was homeless back then and here I am sitting in my studio typing this comment. I really love your work. Thank you.
Only one word I can use to describe this..... WOW! But to comment, it's interesting how you've combined the Acrylic paint in combination with oils! As an amateur artist myself, I've never experimented with that combination. I would've thought that would've created paint separating and not get the desired results. Learn something new everyday! Great Work!
The way that you create you pieces is so methodical and there really is an art form itself. I love how you go through the steps so as to really allow others to grasp the entire process and the amount of effort that goes in to your art.
Amazing talent! Beautiful piece of artwork and a beautiful painter as well. Upload more videos please, the whole painting process is just captivating to look at.
I’m an artist myself. I use all kind of media; from Watercolor, Acrylic, Oil, Gouache and I’m still learning every day how to improve myself. I’m happy to say that I learn from other artists and you are no exception my wonderful art friend!!!! You are amazing and I have seen your art work before and I just have to say that I’m a fan of yours ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ LOVE YOU!!
thank you so much for uploading. it's a beautiful painting and this shows how it's not "just" talent, but hours of research and hard work. people always seem to complain about Art being expensive, but the work you've put in there, the emotion is amazing. I also know how much those paints and mediums cost. Time, effort, money and your heart and soul have gone into this painting. Wow. it's stunning and I really appreciate you sharing your process.
Beautiful work and major respect! I am a digital painter mostly, seeing you work traditionally like this makes me appreciate how much skill is really involved. =D
I love this! You’ve really broken down and simplified the whole process! I paint in acrylic and find myself doing sooooo many gosh darn layers and it still doesn’t even look half as good as this! I guess the proof is in the planning. I rarely actually plan my paintings, because I’m perpetually impatient, but right now in my polytech classes we’re being taught what an important process the planning is. I find it tedious but it must be worth it hahaha
I am so glad I randomly came across this. As a person study for a major in the fine arts this is inspiring and it brings out some of what my professors have been teaching me so far in class.
Love how the painting comes to life, you painted like you were painting watercolor. oh i miss doing this traditional art.. it really takes a lot of time and patience, which is not very much available on this fast-paced world. So paintings like this deserves a lot of respect..Great job Cynthia! Cheers! :)
OMG CYNTHIA I MET YOU TWICE AND I HAVE THIS PAINTING AND THE DARTH VADER ONE YOU DID YOU'RE AMAZING AND I LOVE YOU AND YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL AND YOUR AMAZING ART OMG
You're multi-talented artist Cynthia. You're good in paint, digital, and your music are amazing. I dont know the way you dividing time. thanks for great video!! I learn a lot from you
So beautiful. What an awesome idea to begin with as well. The step by step execution is so wonderful to see. You are so creative and talented. What a joy to watch. Inspiring as I am learning to paint with acrylics and oils again.
I loved how you described the process, you are an amazing artist and the quality of your work is amazing, I am so happy to have found your video. Thank you for sharing.
i like how every other artists is so well organized and im here searching for my pencils and papers all over the floor xD
+vasilis vks same!! I can't believe people have the patience to plan, take ref photos, draw, scan, paint digitally, print, sketch, and paint all over again...
ahahaha
If painting took two hours the first hour would be just looking for all the supplies lol
hahaha
sameee

yap!!!
She used titanium hwite and Prussian blue. I wonder if she beats the devil out of her paintbrushes, too.
+nami I missed the Van Dyck Brown..lol
Sounds nasty hehe
Probably not considering that’s likely what gave Bob Ross lung cancer.

Erin GoBragh same here but with a year delay. Outstanding work. Are you still making art?
She is the most multi-skill artist I have ever seen... She made the painting, the video, and the music. Phewwww.... I love that!
Painting was very impressive, but when I learned that you were also the artist behind the music towards the end of the video, I was in total awe. What pure perfection!
I have been watching this for years. I always end up coming across this video and I never get tired of seeing it.
Okay, first of all, the UA-cam algorithm...
Definitely a lot of hours.

Yes, I've been working as an artist and illustrator full time for almost a year now. It's a great job!
My god this is breath taking. I really love your technique with the overcoat on the pencil first which gave the finish look that really interesting texture over everything. You know,I really do love these videos.
You never really appreciate art that much until you see how much effort and time the artist put into it.

Rick Baker what's the benefit of using acrylics to underpaint?
Melody handeland i work with acrylics not oil paints, but my best guess is the fact that it gives an idea of where the colours go without bleeding through.
Jasmin Ok oh ok thanks! Definitely gonna try that 😊
And because you can get that base idea down without the long long drying time of oil paints

cynthia, I love your work, too bad you haven't posted any more process videos. You have inspired me to become a better artist ever since 2012... I was homeless back then and here I am sitting in my studio typing this comment. I really love your work. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment, and glad you have a studio now. I would really love to produce more, since this one is now officially ancient!
I'm sure I speak on behalf of the thousands of people who've viewed this video: It'd be an honour to see another video of yours!

I hope we are going to see many more of these videos.
Stew.
I can't believe you made the music in the background! Very talented :D
I have been over here trying to think of what this reminds me of it. And then it hit me. Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" of course! Excellent job.
The way that you create you pieces is so methodical and there really is an art form itself. I love how you go through the steps so as to really allow others to grasp the entire process and the amount of effort that goes in to your art.
Beautiful work!! I had to subscribe. Thank you for showing the whole process of how you got to the final painting. Keep making amazing art :)
