  • In this video I repair a faulty microwave oven.
WARNING: High voltages are present inside a microwave oven!
DO NOT remove the case while the microwave is plugged in!
There is NO need to operate the microwave with the cover removed, all testing can be done with the microwave turned off and power completely removed.
    Stay safe!

Actually transformer and magnetron are also easy to change out, seeing as the magnetic transformer is pretty much a standard size part now, though in general I just grab a used one for the job, as the new part is about the price of the microwave. Magnetron is also only one of around 5 variants, in general you will find only 3 commonly, so I keep them from other microwaves, complete with the cooling shroud and the thermal cutout.
Yes most common failure is the door switches, or the capacitor or diode, and rarely any of the magnetron or transformer, though fan failure will kill them. Turntable motor is also a common fault, and there are 2 different voltage versions, one 230VAC and the other 36VAC from the fan, so look carefully. Door switch failure is often operator error, or warped plastic parts, though the switches do also just fail from use, but are cheap to buy and put in. Funny thing is the lamp failing will blow the main 8 to 10A fuse as well, so check for the lamp being open as a first thing. I have a box of microwave spare parts, including complete wiring looms, though they rarely get used.
